At 3:25 pm 1/17/24, I pulled in and slowed to a stop when the owner's hand gestured to me. He asks without a greeting, "What year?" I say 2010, he says "2009?!, I say 2010 and he repeats "2009!" I say no 2010, he yells loudly "BE QUIET!" angrily with frustration as he looks dead into my eyes with earbuds on. I look at him in disbelief for a couple of seconds and decide to reverse my truck and leave. This all happened within the first 20 seconds of driving in to smog check my truck. I was in shock at how he treats his customers and if you've been here multiple times before, you know exactly what I'm talking about with his demeanor. I decided to take a couple of pictures before I left as evidence of my experience. He then asked me to drive back in for a smog check and said he was not talking to me. He said he was talking with someone on the phone, which I agree with because I overheard him talking before speaking to me, but when he yelled angrily and loudly "BE QUITE!" I know for a fact he was speaking to me because I repeated 2010 as he focused and made eye contact with me. His last offer was to give me a free smog check, but I refused as I'm a person of dignity and respect. None here whatsoever as a paying customer of several years with a fleet of trucks I've had regular smog checks at this location. By the way, he is a friend of an employee of mine who recommended me to him... I've never had to write a negative review for customer service like this before in Santa Barbara in my life and normally I just walk away from a business when there is poor customer service. However, this was unacceptable and not a representation of customer service in Santa Barbara. I would understand from a business perspective if an employee did not care and or actively sabotaged the business, but not directly from the business owner because he was having a bad day. I've been a regular customer of his since his old location in the Eastside years ago before he relocated to this location several times a year. I've taken my fleet of trucks from my small business in Santa Barbara for the convenience of proximity and low price. Albeit it comes at a price for terrible customer service, rudeness, and attitude. You pay for what you get, but be ready to increase your blood pressure just to get cheap smog check service and terrible customer service. What a shame to run a business and treat people like this. I am so glad I read all of the Yelp reviews to discover Super Value Smog because this place was excellent--particularly for the cost and service--believe me, you will be making the right choice. I could not believe how affordable this place was compared to almost everywhere else in the nearby vicinity. Not to mention, I was in and out in no more than 10 minutes and only paid $34 cash. I believe it is a little more if you pay with a credit card, but it's still more cost effective than the competition. Since I just moved to the area, I had no idea how long this test would take and didn't know how the process goes, but it was thankfully hassle free. I pulled in the small driveway, the employee told me where to park my car, and requested me to leave the keys inside. He then asked me the year of my car and asked if I was paying in cash or with a card. I filled out the necessary paperwork while he hooked my car up to be tested...and a few mins later he said "You passed!" Went to the register to pay, he gave me a receipt as proof for the DMV, and let me know that I will need to do this every two years in California. I highly recommend Super Value Smog!!! read more

Said that he leases the spot to keep costs down and only does cars from year 2000 onward to reduce the amount of equipment needed. Done in about 10 minutes. Wow! Just came from my first smog check there and it was so fast and easy! I used to go to Airport Motors (who partners with the shop in the back) and I remember it taking 45 mins+ and costing around $60. I never got my renewal notice from the DMV so I called ahead to make sure it wouldn't be a problem. He said it wouldn't be as long as I had my registration card from last year. I pulled up about 20 mins after I called and no one was in line ahead of me. He told me to pull up to the cones, get out of my car and leave the engine running. While I filled out the form, he plugged the cord into my car. After about 15 mins, my car was done and it was only $34 (cash price)! Will definitely be returning for future smog checks! read more
