I'm writing this specifically for women considering this location. In February I brought my 1990 Ford Bronco in for smog. It failed. I paid $100, worked with my mechanic, and returned February 26th. That's when Pedro informed me my check engine light would prevent a legal pass -- then suggested that for an additional fee, it could be handled. I did not solicit this. He approached me. The vehicle passed. When I went to start my truck it wouldn't turn over. It never made it off their lot under its own power. Staff ignored me, then mocked me openly in front of other customers and staff for a solid hour -- the most hostile I've been made to feel in 40 years as a paying customer, and I've worked as an executive chef and a USCG Licensed Captain. I know what hostile male environments look like. Eventually they pushed my truck into the street. My mechanic diagnosed a failed fuel pump -- something any legitimate inspection would have caught. I filed a BAR complaint. My BAR representative contacted Pedro directly, at which point Pedro became verbally abusive with a state employee and refused the refund he'd previously agreed to. I have since filed a complaint with the California Attorney General. Scrolling through the 1-star reviews here, I am apparently not alone. The pattern speaks for itself. read more

We made an appointment and the mechanic did my smog check quickly as had the previous individuals at this location had. But the individual who read my odometer overstated it by 8000 miles on the repair record. I didn't catch the error until I got home. Since I want my vehicle's history and CARFAX to be without error, I was told to file a form with the DMV to correct it. read more

I have a beloved car that is a 1999, and it needed to pass the smog test. I was told to go to Pedro's on DeLaVina by three different places. The first time I passed by he gave me a no cost pre test inspection and advised me to head back to my mechanic to address specific issues . After these were taken care of I returned to Pedro, he performed the tests quickly and presented me with the much needed smog certificate for only $60.00. Brought my car here for a smog check. They did a "free sniff test" first and told me it would fail. I took it to another smog shop and it passed no problem. I'm not sure, but it seems like they were trying to get me to pay for diagnostic work and fixing the "issue" that was causing it to fail. If they want to respond to this with a legitimate reason why they would tell me it will fail and not pass smog when it passed at another shop I will update the review and give 5 stars. I like the idea of an initial check, but not if it's to try and scam money out of customers. read more

I came here a while back and they were unable to do a smog check because my engine light was on. They still had me pay the full price and said to come back. I came back after getting my car fixed and they said they wouldn't honor the initial deal and that their computers were down so they couldn't smog it either way. I drove past later and other cars were being smogged so I decided to stop in and ask if everything was back to working. I was greeted with complete rudeness, one guy said he wasn't licensed to smog (while smogging a car) and the other guy said the computers were working...but not for my car. I was so confused and disheartened by the fact that I gave this place my money and they wrote my off so fast and told me to go to another place to get smogged. I took my car in because my friend had had repairs done on her car and the horn on my car was not working. I give him five stars for not trying to fix what was going on with my car when he couldn't do it, and recommending that I take it to a dealership. They found that someone else had tried to fix the horn by installing an over-sized fuse, which caused further damage. So I am grateful to Pedro for being honest with me and not doing some quack job that would have caused further problems to my car. read more

Sadly I'm having to update my review from 5 stars to 2... Due to illness I haven't driven my car very much for a while and my husband needed to reset the computer in it because the parking brake locked up. It fixed the issue, however, I needed to get a smog check for registration. After the great experience I had the first time, I naturally went to Pedro's. When he ran the check he told me the computer wasn't ready so I needed to drive it some. He told me exactly where to drive and how fast to go to get the computer ready. I did exactly as he suggested. I went back to the shop and but computer was still not ready. This happened 3 times, each time I went exactly as far as he told me to drive and at the speed he suggested. But still no luck. So, after the third attempt, Pedro told me to come back the next day after driving up to El Capitan and back. Next day, after doing what he'd said to do, I showed up at Pedro's and he seemed strangely unfriendly. I figured maybe a bad day. The test, again, showed the computer not ready. So, Pedro gave me further instructions for driving the car, which I followed exactly. In the two days a total of 3.5 hours driving. I returned to Pedro's and parked in the spot he'd told me previously each time to park in. Suddenly, he shouted angrily at me, twice, to park in a different spot. I asked him if he was mad at me but no answer. So I parked in the new spot that he'd indicated and waited. He then came over saying "I'm not mad at you, I'm just frustrated because you keep coming back and I keep having to check. It's distracting me from my job." First of all, I was doing exactly as he was telling me to do to get my smog check done. He had told me to come back each time. But now that was frustrating him? I had followed all of his instructions. Secondly, I thought helping customers and getting smog checks done was his job... Thirdly, each time he checked my car it literally took him 30 seconds to a minute, yet in the middle of checking my car the last time he walked off to talk with someone who was getting gas, apparently a past customer. They were conversing about personal things, not about his car, and it took about 5 minutes. So, Pedro is okay being distracted by personal conversations, but not working with a paying client to get their smog check done. I took a grand total (over the two days) of maybe 5-7 minutes of his time and he got paid $60 for it. You know, Pedro, you never know what people are going through in life. Just be kind. Shouting and getting frustrated because someone is following your instructions and doing exactly as you're telling them to do... it just seems odd. Surely what matters is how we treat other people, especially when they've done nothing wrong. read more

Have taken car to him 3 times this week for oil change. 1st time come back tomorrow at 9:00 next time says leave car. come back in 2 hours. every time I come back there this another car getting service that was not there when I dropped car off. my bays are full come back tomorrow. Went here yesterday to get a smog check. They did a pre smog check? And asked me if I recently changed my car battery. I did indeed and has no idea that when you switch your car battery all the information that is stored in your car.. or whatever.. is erased!! So they told me to drive it to costco and back a couple times come back the next day. Got my car smogged and passed! All like in 10 minutes. Easy peasy. read more

The on board computer was having reporting issues and the guys here were super gracious and patient with me driving the car to give the computer some time to adjust and coming back.
