This review is long over due but I wanted to write the great service we received from A & E Automative. We called Dannon for a maintenance and tire checks and she was able to fit us in quickly. She was very pleasant and informative. The shop did a thorough job and was even able to change a back light for us that was added in the end of the service. I was getting ready to drive to Nashville and I started having weird electrical issues and Edgar and Dannon were so hospitable! I have a 13 year old car that had never had the fluids replaced. All the fluids needed to be replaced: transmission, brake, A/C coolant, radiator, oil. As a single woman, I never know if I'm going to be taken advantage of. I was so relieved to see that A&E is owned by a couple, and the wife, Dannon, runs everything. Came to A&E for the second time to get My DMV-required SMOG Inspection done. Edgar is still here, and things seem to be operating just as smoothly and friendly as they did the last time I was here. But it appears they remodeled the front of their office to be a really nice lobby and waiting area (see attached pic). Policies and SMOG Pricing are posted neatly and clearly. There is a large display above and behind the counter giving customers visibility into what the service agent is doing. This is an AMAZING example of transparency and I wish more businesses would do this. read more

I can't thank this mechanic enough! I bought a car from a dealer "as is," and just three months later the engine failed. He was upfront and honest with me from the start, explained everything clearly, and even gave me advice he didn't have to. Although he doesn't usually do engine replacements, he was willing to take the risk to help me out. Most importantly, he suggested I go directly to Ford to check for warranty coverage and thanks to his honesty, I ended up getting a brand-new engine at no cost! Amazing how quickly time flies when you continue to have your cars regularly serviced here at A&E. After finding them four years ago it's nice to have them as a reliable automobile service center. Called Dannon regarding a bad starter. She had me bring it in early the next morning. They performed a complimentary comprehensive checkup which identified the most serious issue with the car. After a discussion with Dannon we determined what was most critical to fix at this moment (no pressure and all very helpful). A&E is fantastic. I moved to the area a couple years ago and at first I brought my vehicle to Jiffy, which... was a mistake. Then I came to A & E. I love that they provide me with a full inspection report of my vehicle with accompanying pictures so that there's absolute transparency with what's wrong with my car and the recommendations that they're making. Edgar was quick to get in touch with me about my vehicle status and provide explanations for any of their recommendations as well. When it came down to getting the work done, Edgar and Dannon- along with another mechanic whose name I unfortunately do not know (sorry)-stayed until well after closing to finish up my car so I could get it back the same day. As far as value goes-I'd say that A&E is a pretty good value, especially considering the area. Goleta/SB are not cheap for pretty much anything. I think you also have to consider peace of mind and trust when it comes to value. Other places I've been, I've often felt like I just get told about a sudden onslaught of things that are wrong with my vehicle, or am constantly offered services that provide very little actual benefit to my vehicle. I've never felt that with A&E, both Dannon and Edgar take the time to explain and diagnose what's up with your vehicle and make suggestions without the feeling like I'm being pressured or predated on, so I know that they're actually doing right by me when I go and because of that, I'll continue to go. read more

A&E Automotive that is located in Goleta off of pine street which is owned by DANNON STORM Is one big fat money pit. I needed repairs on my car which I purchased in April my car has been back to her shop total of 6 times. This last time they got my car the first week in August I just received it back 2 maybe 3 weeks ago and it's still not running correctly she gave me paperwork saying that they put $6000 worth of work into my car and it does not run When I phoned her on November 14th 2024 and toader that the car kept turning off she told me that it's all in the paperwork so do not go to A&E automotive go somewhere else. The first time I dropped my car off to them, They had it at their shop for well over 2 weeks when it was time for me to pick the car up they told me that I needed an engine I asked him how much for used engine they told me 3500 when I looked at my invoice they only paid $1600 for the use engine. At that time I phoned her at the shop we talked she left work that day she came to my house and she brought me a check for $2000 when I continue to look at the bill again where they overcharge me she brought me another check for $2000 so believe me check your invoices because A&E automotive just wants to take your money. This last time they had my car since the first week of August they returned it to me 2 weeks ago they gave me an invoice that says they put $6000 worth the work in the car and guess what 3 days later check engine soon light came on and now the car is pulling back. read more

My Subaru Outback power steering suddenly went out in Goleta and I found A&E quickly on the Web. I was VERY lucky. Owner Dannon and Chief Mechanic Edgar did a great job fixing the problem but gave my vehicle a thorough once-over and a comprehensive report, including photos. I returned the following week to begin working through the list of items that needed attention on this 20 year-old car. Chief Mechanic Edgar oversaw some major item repairs (transmission service and front drive axles replacements) and I will return for more work on the list. Had my Toyota Sienna 2006 AWD serviced here that needed a radiator and timing belt replacement. A&E took me in on short-notice where other mechanics turned me away. The job ended up taking longer than expected but A&E was willing to pay for my car rental to make-up for the delay. Despite being a new customer from outside Santa Barbara County, Edgar paid special attention to my repair needs and didn't rush the process or leave the job half-done despite the hiccups that came with my older vehicle. They also made sure to take before & after photos of every step for transparency and I was very impressed by the report I was given when I picked up my vehicle, breaking down the repairs that were done and recommendations for future repairs. The pricing rates were fair. It has been about 2-weeks, and the car drives better than ever. Only note for improvement I would make is to improve the daily communication. A&E does tell you the approximate date when the vehicle will be finished, but keeps you in the dark during the in-between dates. I'm just being nit-picky here, but would've been nice to have 1-daily update of the repair process (i.e. parts ordered, vehicle in the service line, delays, etc.) via text or voicemail. However, at the end of the day, you want a mechanic that does the job right for the right price, and A&E does this well. Will be coming for future repairs. read more

Guys, A & E is the Goat! When I first moved to Santa Barbara I was just a broke college boy and my car was having so many problems. I got scammed at so many places and had lost hope. This place is so honest and they're all so nice. They are straight up about the problems that are wrong with you're car and they don't fool around. If something is wrong they're gonna fix it no matter what. When giving an oil change they go above and beyond and check everything with your car and let you know what might need help so you don't get screwed later. Dannon and Edger are such nice people along with the rest of their whole crew. They have saved me money, time, and my entire vehicle as a whole lol. I spent close to a year trying to find a mechanic that could solve an issue that I was having with my vehicle. Sometimes it would shift hard between 1st and 2nd gear. I had one mechanic shop (Alphonso's Transmission) tell me that my transmission was going bad and that I should just get a new car. The guy that serviced my vehicle at A&E was Mike. He spent over two days trying to figure out why my vehicle was having these shifting issues. Make a long story short, the Adaptive Learn Drive Cycle needed to be reset, and now my vehicle shifts as if it was brand new. These guys looked at everything to see where the problem was coming from. Other places told me that spending $7k for a new transmission was the only solution. In addition to this, they give you a complimentary inspection. They take pictures of every part of your vehicle. They don't just tell you what needs replacing or maintenance, they SHOW YOU with actual proof. That is something that I have never seen any other shop do. I will always be grateful for the assistance and hard work that I received and I plan to do my future car maintenance's here. Mike was awesome, thank you. read more
