This was such an amazing experience. Beautiful April sun-shine and weather. We will be back!!! Sometime after we booked the stay, the concierge reached out and was able to provide out activity itinerary. The check in was easy and we were honestly pleasantly surprised that we were given real keys to out lodging. The lodging was amazing. Clean and spacious 1-bedroom suite, bunk beds for our teenagera in the living area. Cute little fire place. The entire facility was beautiful and well maintained. Other than the lake the resort was an easy walk. Highly recommend the e-bike to tour the mountain. The horse back riding was good for us beginners. The lake side activity was so much fun.

Best of the best in the Santa Yanez valley. Words cannot describe the joy and happiness Alisal brings to my family. A yearly trip here is never enough but always appreciated and needed.

This is our second time visiting the ranch. It's such a magical place. Everywhere you turn their beauty. The rooms are something out of architectural digest most of all everybody who works. There is amazing and super helpful. The food is top-notch and so are the cocktails the hayride out to the Adobe breakfast was super fun, especially with the cowboy poetry. Of course you'll have to do the horseback riding as well and most of all just relax and enjoy.!!

Fire place in our suite. They will replenish the starter sticks if you run out.

Gorgeous and breathtaking! From the suite to dining, to the outdoor activities... everything you could hope for in a Dude Ranch is here at Alisal. The staff are friendly and helpful. They have horseback riding, e-biking, hiking, archery, air rifle, fishing, kayaking, and a rodeo. We did it all! The suite had a fireplace, which gave to the ambiance of the stay. I would definitely come here again!!

Came for a weekend getaway after schools started back up to avoid the crowds. I actually had low expectations as someone who prefers higher end hotels. I fell in love with the place and hope to come back annually. Wife and kids loved it too. It was during an unusually bad heat wave but even still... the horseback riding, Archery, Air rifles were all great and the staff were super friendly. The Ranch Golf course was interesting and in pretty good shape. The pool was great and helped beat the heat. Staff and service were top notch from check in to check out, top to bottom and I mean every single person on staff on property. Tip: The bar area has live music, snacks, and allows kids so it was fun for the whole family. Rooms were much nicer than I had expected being on a ranch. Dressing up for dinner made it feel special and every night dinner was a treat. All in all I highly recommend and can't wait to return because there was so many things to do that we didn't get to it all.

    Friendly horse petting.

Alisal Ranch is a standout experience; The setting and grounds showcase the unique natural beauty and rich California history of the Santa Ynez Valley. The rooms are beautifully appointed with the finest quality materials and amenities in a warm, classy western style. The Oak Room Bar is a great way to start or end your evening; great live entertainment. Our bartender, Ian, was so charming and knowledgeable. Jack the Restaurant manager, Maria our dinner server was warm and delightful. The food quality is excellent and included along with gratuities in the package price. Lovely piano accompaniment to farm fresh locally sourced gourmet ingredients. The bath robes are unique; fashioned from gorgeous soft indigo denim and lined in cozy luxurious chenille. The resident mousers, Tom and Jerry are super cute friendly kitties. The horses and other ranch critters make this a memorable time for animal lovers of all ages. This was a return visit for us and we plan to return again next May.

What a truly special and unique experience at the beautiful Alisal Ranch! My husband and I were lucky enough to spend a week here on a company incentive trip. The staff are all so friendly and the hospitality is unmatched! Our room was very clean and nicely decorated with the resort's Western theme/aesthetic. Having a real fireplace inside the room was so nice - especially since we stayed here in late April/early May when it was still chilly. We used it EVERY night. There was also filtered water in the room which was a plus! There is an abundance of beauty, scenery, and wildlife all throughout the property. We were lucky to see deer every morning outside of our back porch, bald eagles soaring through the sky at the lake, beautiful horses and cattle roaming, and even a bobcat! The activities: We spent two afternoons on the lake and rented an aluminum boat. The fishing equipment was complimentary. Perks of coming during "off season" - we had the whole lake to ourselves! And caught about 20 fish between the two of us each day. It was very exciting. The staff were all super helpful and friendly. My husband played golf at both The Ranch and The River golf courses. He had great things to say about both, but his favorite was The Ranch. It was so peaceful on the course, the greens were very well maintained, and the course was more challenging/technical of the two. We even saw wild turkeys! Also, the breakfast burritos from the café were 10/10. Beginner Horseback Riding 10/10 experience. The wranglers were all patient and willing to help the beginners learn to ropes. We did the horseback riding with Emily and it was a wonderful experience! It rained two days during our stay, so they planned a rainy day itinerary for each day it rained. There was wine tasting and a make your own margarita class. I really enjoyed this added touch since most activities they offer are outdoors. They truly care for the guests. Deep Tissue Massage - a little pricey in my opinion, but such a nice treat/splurge! I would recommend spoiling yourself with a spa day :) The shuttle drivers were all amazing and personable. There was a lot of other free activities too including hiking trails, gym, pedal boats, kayaking, SUP, petting zoo and more. The food: Breakfast: breakfast each day was serve yourself/buffet style. Everything was pretty good! And you can even take your food to go or back to your room as they provided containers. Lunch favorites: Ranch Chopped Salad with chicken added and the steak tacos! Both were amazing. Dinner: we had a scheduled dinner in the dining room each night. The service was EXCELLENT! They also have a live pianist each night which was very nice. It was a 3 course meal where you get to choose your starter, entree and dessert. They had two new dinner and dessert specials each night. The tuna tartar was my favorite starter. For entrees, I had the salmon, short rib, burger, shrimp - everything was good! I think my favorite was the burger - I loved the bacon onion sauce and the arugula. My husband literally ordered the rib eye every night it was that yummy lol! Note: both breakfast and dinner meals were included in the stay package. I see why this place is a yearly tradition for families. It's a perfect place for kids and there are endless family friendly activities to choose from. We will absolutely be back!!

I am going to let you in on a little secret…read more... Yeah, I'm going to share with you what i THINK is the best kind of getaway, well, at least in my humble opinion. It's the kind that doesn't abruptly end, but it just sort of.... keeps on going. Let me explain. Have you ever gone on vacation and said to yourself, or to your spouse or even to your kids.... "Gee, I could have really used one more night" Or Let out the exaggerated (Ughh)... "I don't want to go back to work tomorrow, I wish we could just extend our trip by just one more day" Well... On a recent trip with my family, We INTENTIONALLY did just that. My wife booked us a 2 night stay in Paso Robles at a beautiful boutique style/chain hotel. (The Ava Hotel in Paso) (Check out my review for the deets) Usually, when we do these short, weekend trips, I work up until the day of our trip and then go back the very next day once we return... But, NOT THIS TIME! Yeah, This time, my wife intentionally told me, let's book one more night on the way home from our trip in Paso just to break up the drive home and enjoy one more day off of work and time with the fam. Heck, I've got loads of PTO and who wants to be at work anyway, so it wasn't too hard to twist my arm on this one. And just like that.... Solvang, Here we Come! Yes, the cute, quaint town of Solvang is the perfect destination for a weekend getaway or even just for a one night stay like we did. Of course, my wife, the Queen of finding the best places to stay/eat... (AND I AM THE ONE WHO IS THE "ELITE" haha) booked us a room at the Landsby hotel and it was nothing short of a treat. Here's why: The Landsby is more than just a room... Inside of a hotel... Located in the heart of this Danish town known as: SOLVANG It wasn't just, "let's build a hotel where the people can stay and explore the town while they are here". At least that's not the impression it gave me! Instead, The Landsby has a Charm about, it has Character and most of all it gives you the impression that you are in a modern-day Dutch village. But one of my favorite parts.... The Room Key, keyword, "KEY" Yeah! The room key is an actual Key!!! A metal, lock and key, just like the good 'ol days! Ain't no digital, pre-programmed, modern day, technologically advanced system like every other hotel does it.... And I liked it! And to match the old school style key... The t.v is in black and white, the internet is run on dial up and the telephone is a rotary dial..... JUST KIDDING!!!! But wouldn't that be cool! Aside from the small town European vibe that the exterior of the building gives you, once you step inside both the hotel and then your room, you are immediately transported to a place that feels welcoming, familiar and most of all comfortable. Because this was a short stay (just a one nighter) we didn't take advantage of the amenities like we normally do, but next time we will. A lobby bar (our favorite place to check out), an onsite restaurant (Mad & Vin which loos really good), an outdoor courtyard to sit and relax, and complimentary cruiser bikes to explore the town. The Landsby is Pet friendly, so definitely check out their webpage for details for your furry friends. So....... Now that I've let you in on my little secret, I don't want you to keep it that way! Spread the word! Pass it along! Tell a friend! Come check out the Landsby in Solvang!!

When you combine the two, I'm sure the maintenance of the facilities is quite the task. The checkin was through Cloud beds, which meant there was absolutely no personal contact whatsoever. I checked in via a link, was given a code and viola. The motel has gone through some cosmetic restoration, but I'm not sure it's enough for a 5 star recommendation. The tub was chipped, the paint was chipped in several places and we could hear every step from our upstairs neighbors (well placed rugs or carpet may have been helpful). That being said, it was clean and reasonably priced. I'm sympathetic to the arduous task it must be to maintain an inn with the tourist and inebriated.

Check in process can be challenging. They text me the same day of check in to ask me for my email and a credit card. I was not comfortable replying as I thought it might be spam. I waited until I arrived. I had to call a number, and provide my credit card for incidentals over the phone. I was hoping they would have a check in machine similar to vegas hotels since no live staff. It was pretty loud to hear as another group was trying to check in too. I am giving a 3 due to service. The balcony door's lock was not working. I text them when we checked in to report issue with no response. The hotel room was beautiful and pleasant. I loved the nespresso coffee, the lounge area. They also had a reading lounge. Everything was artistic with great color, very new and clean. Another issue I had was that I booked through a 3rd party and prepaid room when over night I received an extra charge notification. When I called in the morning around 6:30 am I was advised no manger was available until 7 am and someone would call me then. I waited until 7:30 am as no one called me I called again. I was advised they were having systems issues with their app. Since it was a 3rd party the app was charging me the 3rd party charge. Which was $50 less what I paid to the 3rd party. I advised them I had already prepaid. They advised me they would release hold in 2-3 days. I called the 3rd party to advise the above. They called Winston staff as they shortly after sent me a text. I do believe Winston was in error to charge me while I had already paid the 3rd party. The funds were released the next day. Keep an eye on credit card notifications if stay here. Other than the above issue and Check in service I would stay here again. The room was comfortable with the exception of the balcony door not locking.

My husband Matt B. turned 43 last month, and we celebrated with a weekend in Los Olivos, staying…read moretwo nights in The Inn at Mattei's Tavern. It was a wonderful grown-up getaway, our kids stashed with my mom in another country. Relaxing and deeply enjoyable, with great accommodations and lots of wine. One thing to note, for those booking online--there's a shady website that paid Google for higher placement in the search results than the actual hotel website, and if you book through them, they will charge you hundreds of dollars in excess fees. I fell for this stupid trap and was lucky to get my money back before rebooking through the hotel site and permanently switching my search engine to DuckDuckGo. The Inn at Mattei's Tavern is expensive enough to begin with. It's a very nice hotel, but I didn't think the price point was quite justified--maybe we got squeezed because there was a wedding on the property during our stay and we weren't part of the block. The $60 resort fee is also ridiculous. All that said, it was a lovely hotel, and easily the most high-end in the small town of Los Olivos. Mattei's Tavern has a long history, going back to 1886, when it was a popular stagecoach stop. The hotel's aesthetic leans accordingly western--a little horsey, a little ranchy, with cowboy hats for sale in the lobby shop. It is also, though, a modern California luxury hotel, expensively renovated in the not-too-distant past. The staff was friendly and helpful, both over the phone and in person. We were eligible for an upgrade if available because of a random Mercedes Benz partnership (I drive a Mercedes), but I guess there wasn't one, likely because of the wedding. The Mercedes promotion was good for a $100 food and beverage credit, which we redeemed at the Tavern, the hotel's excellent restaurant. We also enjoyed welcome drinks at check-in, made with whiskey, ginger, and lemon, and soft caramels that came with turndown service. We took home a complimentary bottle of Presqu'ile wine, from a vineyard in Santa Maria. This was in addition to the many wines we purchased at local tasting rooms over our brief stay, which a hard-working bellman helped us schlep out of our room. We got a patio king studio, and it was clean, comfortable, roomy, and attractive. There was a small living area that wasn't especially useful. The fireplace was cool, and I liked that it could be used inside the room or on the patio. There was a pool, which maybe started to justify the resort fee, and we visited our first morning to relax before heading out to drink wine. The vibe was pleasant, a lot of adults chilling quietly with books. If you travel fancy and want to visit Los Olivos, The Inn at Mattei's Tavern is the place to stay. We had a wonderful time in this cute, walkable, wine-soaked town, and hope to come back again soon.

The property itself is stunning, luxurious but warm, with a relaxed wine-country feel that makes it easy to settle in whether you're there for work or leisure. The rooms are beautifully done with a modern farmhouse style: tasteful décor, high-end fixtures, and really solid furniture that feels both comfortable and thoughtfully chosen. Everything was clean, well maintained, and felt upscale without being over the top. It was the kind of room you actually look forward to coming back to after a long day. Food was another highlight. Every meal was consistently great well prepared, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. It made the whole retreat experience feel elevated without being formal or stiff. The staff deserves special mention. Everyone I interacted with was incredibly kind, professional, and attentive. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and created a very welcoming atmosphere throughout the stay. And a fun bonus: they had four Mercedes vehicles available for use. I ended up driving all four during my stay, which definitely added to the overall experience and convenience. Overall, The Tavern at Los Olivos delivered on every level comfort, style, service, and location. Whether you're planning a work retreat, a weekend getaway, or just want a luxurious place to stay in wine country, this place is absolutely worth it. Would happily return.
