Recently decided to try some more burgers, beyond what was right near me. Sideshow Kitchen showed up as an option that was slightly out of the way, but still in a reachable distance. I decided to try the following: - Sideshow Burger - Garlic Fries - Hella Hyphy Fried Chicken First off, the Sideshow Burger; true to its popularity, the Sideshow Burger turned out to be a double patty cheeseburger with grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, aioli and what they call, good burger sauce. The burger was quite juicy (which, in my books is a plus), and overall was probably one of the best cheeseburgers I've ever had. Next up the Garlic Fries. These turned out to be your standard cringle fries, but with lots of mashed garlic, with cilantro sprinkled all over. They definitely do not skimp on garlic, and personally for me, it was borderline almost too much garlic; so if you are a garlic-lover, then this is a must-get. As for the Hella Hyphy Fried Chicken Sandwich, this was two fried chicken (thighs I believe), pickles, and their fried chicken sandwich sauce. The batter of the chicken was great in texture, but, in my opinion, could have been seasoned a little better. There were plenty of pickles (I believe that there is no such thing as too many pickles!), and it was overall a solid sandwich Super excited to try this place out again. If I had to pick one thing to re-order from these three, I would most definitely go with the Sideshow Burger, but also super excited to try other menu items from here. read more

So glad we tried this place! My friend's daughter wanted a burger. Trusty Yelp lead me here with the stellar reviews & distance from where we were at. Set up like a Fosters Freeze, you place your order in the front and seating around the corner outside with picnic tables. Drinks come out at the side window and they deliver your food to the table. Staff was friendly. This place is legit with burger offerings, veggie burger offerings, chicken, fish, wings, fries and alcohol! What?!! Beers on tap, and to my pleasant surprise cider!!! They even let me taste the cider and I was sold! They had apple & guava. Guava was so different I got that one and it was great! Ordered a burger which came with fries, lemon pepper wings with a side of bbq sauce, garlic fries, chicken sandwich, and a kids burger! So happy they offered a kids burger and it was a hearty size too. Overall the food was delicious! Wings, garlic fries, drinks, perfect!!! Will definitely come back again for more! I accidentally found this place. Nestle in a residential area, it has cute outdoor aesthetics. A few items I wanted to try, but I picked the Good burger with fries and churros. First off, those churros are the best I've had so far outside an amusement park setting. Lol Now if I'm ever craving any, I know exactly where to go. My cheese burger was good. And the fries were seasoned great too. I will return again when I have time to enjoy the patio area and eat there. read more

Sideshow Kitchen cool spot. To be honest the name of the restaurant drew me in. I am from Oakland and grow up when the Sideshow was a safe and fun thing to do on the weekend. I take things a little personal when the representation is off. I am not here to bash the place. I just have a few suggestions/concerns seems I spent about 60+ bucks here. I do not mind spending if the food is on GOOD. But...... Myself and a friend had Garlic fries, Hella Hyphy Fried Chicken sandwich, 6 Lemon Pepper wings and a Dry Sideshow Bacon Cheese Burger that came with an order of regular fries. Wish I had of took pictures but we were super hungry and wanted to really enjoy it while it was hot. The FLAVOR was missing all around. The Sideshow ATMOSPHERE a total miss. I seen the license plate on the wall ( cute). Maybe have a rotation of Bay Area artists along with the selection you already play. How about some Salt and Pepper on the tables. TL;DR: Don't order through their website for delivery (pickup is fine), because they farm out to UberEats and have zero customer support or way to lookup the status of your order. UberEats wont support your order either. The food is solid, but their website ordering experience needs work. You place the order through sideshowkitchen.com and their delivery uses Uber Eats to fulfill the delivery. Unfortunately in our case, we were charged, then given an Uber Eats link with an estimated time, which kept slipping by 20 minutes. Then an hour later we were told by Uber Eats that the delivery was cancelled. When I tried calling SideShow, we got someone's voicemail continuously. When I contacted Uber Eats, they told us that they cannot help because the order was not placed through them. So I have to do a chargeback on my credit card because I have no actual confirmation from anyone that I will be refunded my order. This is a painful experience. Not to mention that my family are all starving waiting and now having to figure out another dinner option. Funny enough, you're better off using DoorDash to order than directly unless you want to pickup. EDIT: In retrospect, and after a fair response from the restaurant, I wrote this review in a moment of being "hangry" and I have updated my star rating to a 4/5 to reflect the reality that it's hard to be a small business without these hiccups. I still believe Sideshow should: 1. Update their website to reflect how to handle order issues/disputes. 2. Add some info to the voicemail on the phone number on their website as well so customers know how to handle disputes. 3. Work with Uber to let them support the order delivery issues as they claim it's not their problem when you call. read more

Was curious on trying this place because we always pass by it but never thought of stopping by so I decided to get it on doordash. The burger was the only thing I really liked. It had good flavors and it was juicy. It was little bit pink in the middle which doesn't bother me but I took a picture and I am pointing that out there in case any of you are someone that hates pink burgers. Something that I was disappointed in was the fries. Of course they are soggy cause I got them to go but the flavor was bad. It also tasted like old grease or bad oil, I had to dump them because that is not something I want in my body. The salad was ok but the dressing was very weird. It had a weird tangy flavor that I'm not sure exactly what it was but maybe it was some kind of mustard that I don't like, I think it was horseradish mustard. Overall nothing horrible with the salad it self, just the dressing. I like the Mexicali burger. It is lovely. My husband likes the chicken sandwich. Also yummy. Haven't tired other things yet. Also a shout out to a nice place to sit outside when, like me, you want to continue to be socially distant. It's very pleasant to sit outside ... and, for the sports minded, there are always multiple games on. There is no inside seating, but there are sheltered areas. For lunch I tried the cheese steak ($13). The filling itself, shredded beef with shiitake mushrooms, tasted quite agreeable. The beef held onto its juices and seemed tender, while the shiitake mushrooms imparted a sweet umami flavor that complimented the beef. Great communication on when the wings would be ready for the pickup time I gave them. Friendly staff and locally owned. The wings were big and crispy! I rarely give 5 stars, but this restaurant 100% deserves it! The out door seating area was cute and casual, clean tables and clean bathroom which is always a plus. I ordered the Hyphy Chicken Sandwich which was amazing. The fried chicken wasn't too fatty, there wasn't too much sauce, and I think there was a roasted green chili which was a delicious, unique twist for a fried chicken sandwich. It was the good level of spicy, and the chicken was fried to perfection. Nice and crispy and the cole slaw was also amazing, it wasn't too bitter and it was very crunchy. Jose Luis (the head chef) is kind of a local hero; he called the fire department on the old building across the street when it caught fire last year. The kale salad is a WONDERFUL substitute to fries if that's your sort of thing. They stayed open during COVID-19 for pick-up and we are so happy they did. Great patio when we are allowed to gather in groups, and games to play with friends and family. Loved two things - the meat and the games. Sideshow Kitchen is kitschy and I'm guessing loosely named after Sideshow Bob of Simpsons fame. It's a quirky little place that is obviously popular based on the amount of traffic we encountered and the complete lack of food. It's disheartening when you hear the words, "We're all out." Now sometimes I get it. Ribs, BBQ, items that take a long time to prepare. It happens. Donuts are a good example. But when they can't make burritos because they run out of tortillas? That's sad. Just go to the store (because it was obvious they didn't hand make them). I do love the quirkiness of the place and they have games you can play while waiting for dinner (or during dinner). Board games! But that didn't quite make up for the lack of food. FOOD: The meat was awesome, but that was about it. Fries were okay. Nothing to write home about. No gluten-free bun options here. I ordered the Sideshow Philly Cheesesteak. Not even close to a real Philly Cheesesteak. Remarkably short on the cheese. Which of course makes a cheesesteak what it is. I expected them to have their own take on it, but there are two components of a cheesesteak you shouldn't mess with - the cheese and the steak. Steak was in cubes instead of the traditional strips of thinly cut meat, but it was really good. Just wish there was more cheese. My wife had the tacos and they were tasty too. Telling you they know how to do meat. SERVICE: Mediocre. Not bad at all. Everyone was polite. But when you run out of tortillas? Come on. COST: Not bad. Reasonable for what you get. Been meaning to check out Sideshow since it opened and got the chance this afternoon for lunch. They were a bit slammed and probably didn't expect the huge crowd we brought but the food was good. They ran out of wings and tortillas for tacos since they're handmade in house. Had the fried chicken basket which is boneless chicken cut into smaller pieces. It had a good crunch and was good with a kale/jalapeno/red cabbage/lettuce slaw. There were a ton of fries and the elote was good. For $15 its a pretty good value. Order at the counter and get a number. Plenty of seating outside with benches and high tables with heat lamps all around. A tv inside and outside with foosball table and few table games inside. Next time will have to try one of the beers. It looked like they have some good ones. read more

There are burgers and there are Burgers. Sideshow Kitchen makes makes a juicy, delicious Burger. We ordered a Good Burger with bacon and regular fries and a Fried Chicken Sandwich with garlic fries. The burger stole the show. It was juicy, well seasoned, perfectly cooked, and a generous size. Everything about it was top notch. Well, except the bacon. It was flabby and underwhelming. I'm sure it was food safe, but it was not in the neighborhood of crispy. I think crispy was across town. No matter, the burger was so good I forgave the $2.50 upcharge for our flabby friend. The fries are waffle cut, well seasoned, and crispy. The chicken sandwich is made with dark meat (Yes! thank you!) with a delightful crunchy exterior. Unfortunately, I had garlic fries with the chicken sandwich and they put A LOT of garlic on them. My tastebuds got blown out almost immediately. This may explain why I thought the chicken sandwich needed more flavor. I did ask for no mustard. One, I don't like mustard and two, who puts mustard on poultry? There are not too many burger options so you won't be paralyzed by choice, which can be a plus, and they have garlic fries! I got the Mexicali burger, which is just their regular burger with jalapeños and guacamole. No choice for how you want your burger cooked. We got food pretty quickly, but my garlic fries were cold the food arrived. Bummer but the fries were good, tons of garlic added. My bf ordered regular fries and they came out warm, so maybe I got the last of the previous batch? The buns were too soft for my or reference and there was too much bun to burger. I always wanted to try Greasebox since I passed by it so often, however once I realized it closed I knew I had to check out the new place that replaced it. Since it's on a relatively busy street parking here can get tough. They do have free parking in front and around the areas, but it also isn't the safest part of town so b sure to never leave valuables visible. I have to say this place gave me a mixture of bar vibes/beer garden vibes. By this I mean you have the great ambiance of what a beer garden would offer in the back with the tarp, tea lights, cornhole, jenga, and foosball. But you also get the bar vibe with the TV playing sports & darts located in the back. Don't worry, they have heat lamps so don't feel like you'll be limited to the indoors if you want to stay warm. You can either enter in the front on Stanford or through the back. I really enjoyed my first time here since the place wasn't too crowded. I think it's far enough from the Berkeley/Oakland scene where most people don't come here unless they live nearby or find another mode of transportation. It isn't really near much so I do think you'll be limited if you want to bar hop. As far of food, they have a decent selection, but it is limited to an extend. Their main menu consists of tacos, burgers, ad shawarma. We opted for the: - 3 Street Tacos - I wish they offered more variety in the type of protein you want in your tacos but the chicken was SO GOOD. It's huge chunks of grilled chicken that was packed with flavor and moist. The tortillas are made fresh & are a nice contrast from the normal packaged ones you may get at other place. Hopefully next time they'll add more avocados on top since that would really take the cake! haha - West Bank - They serve this to you similar to a pizza vs an actually shawarma. It's both a good and bad thing since they top it with TONS of chicken, but it also makes it hard to fold & eat. We found ourselves spilling a lot of it from the other side as we picked it up (nothing to really complain about though - that's how full it was!). I enjoyed that it was also on a toasted pita bread vs a wrap. The only con with this dish is that we wish they had containers to add more sauce on the top since it did get a little dry & wasn't as sour as what we would get when it's just tahini sauce since there is an additional sauce they add on top. ***They pair most dishes with a side salad of fresh greens that are coated perfectly! It makes you actually want to eat your veggies. To top it off, service here was also kind and even cleaned our tables for us when they saw our plates empty. First off the service here is amazing! My boyfriend and I came at the last minute (8PM) because we thought they closed at 10:00 since it said that on Yelp and I asked the guy who was working the cashier and he realized that Yelp was wrong and thanked me for the error. He also was kind enough to let us take our order despite it being closing time! Thanks man! There is not much inside seating, but there is a ton of space outside! Don't worry if you are worried about being cold because they do have heaters so that makes it nice and cozy. They have things for you to bring your kids too like a small car they can drive. So don't worry about keeping your kid occupied, they got you covered! There is only one bathroom outside so you will have to wait if there is a line. I ordered the vegan tacos while my boyfriend ordered the korean bbq shawarma. The vegan tacos were good where it came with 3 tacos and to be honest they were very filing. The vegetables were cooked to perfection and the tacos weren't soggy which is fantastic! The seasoning too on it was amazing and the balance of vegetables and seasoning was great. Did I mention that it comes with a side of salad which was cool since we didn't expect that. Unfortunately the korean BBQ shawarma that my boyfriend ordered was good, but it didn't have that "korean" taste to it. However, he did say that the dish he ordered was good.
