First off the address is wrong on this business. Correct address is by trout lake. 3469 Commercial St, Vancouver, BC V5N 4E8 Second off the reviews are pretty accurate here. 3.1 average, which is pretty bad in yelp standards. Review average is higher on google, but we all know us yelpers speak the truth. Ridiculous customer service here. I came into the bike shop in person to make an appointment for bike repair, not even expecting to get my bike repaired today. They told me to "go online". I asked why I can't make an appointment in the store? They should be able to control the appointments as they are the bike shop. Again they told me I can't make an appointment in person, and i have to go online. Terrible customer service honestly. I came in for help, and they basically told me to use the internet or go on google. Will definitely never come here again. All the other reviews kind of acknowledge the poor customer service and yikes its true. read more

If you are a supplier, beware of this business. I was burnt badly by Andrea the owner. In late 2022, I was asked to rebrand their business to move away from a female focused local bike shop towards a more inclusive store that welcomed all and to appeal to a broader customer base. My designer and I presented several very well received creative presentations, including logo, positioning and value statements, color scheme refresh, in-store POS, copy platform and first stage we site design. Andrea was delighted with every output. However, out of the blue she emailed me to end the project, having a wobble and lost her nerve, deciding that she wanted to remain female and locally focused. She blamed it on me stating that my webcopy didn't capture the ethos of her business. It didn't as the brief was to take it in a new direction to appeal to her core audience and a broader one alike. She refused to pay me the $3,500 for the work undertaken. As I said, beware of entering into a business ship with this individual. read more

Unhappy and unhelpful would be my summary for this business. I originally purchased a Bike Friday. When I asked about pricing to add a hub shifter, I was quoted a price of $5000, double what I had recently paid, suggesting an outrageous markup. I opted not to change the shifter. I was disappointed, following purchase, to find that the bike model I purchased new is no longer produced. When I returned to get a different stem riser to fit the handlebars, I encountered a hostile unhappy person who complained about poor income, insufficient staff, and overloaded service needs. With this new bike, I was asked book an appointment in the next week, and to pay for a bike fitting. She also added that did not really want to do business with me. She then replaced and charged me for a new stem extender, rather than changing stem riser tube we had previously discussed. When I asked about returning the bike, she said there are no returns on bikes. The Microshift front shifter, included with the bike, broke after 4 weeks. I have subsequently dealt directly with the bike manufacturer in Oregon, and they have been cooperative, responsive, and timely in addressing issues. They even replaced the stem riser tube for no charge. I have been biking for decades, I fix my own problems. I seek service only when I cannot complete a repair. I appreciate cooperative, friendly, and timely service, when required. I regret my purchase from this business, and choose to find continuing service for my bicycle elsewhere. read more

Sidesaddle - Broken shifter after 4 weeks - Bikes Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

Above my expectations! Purchased my Marin bike during COVID and was bummed that it did not feel right and concerned that my hands became numb after long rides. Took my bike in for a fit assessment. Erin had incredible knowledge and skills - raised the handle bar shaft height, shortened the handle bars, and added new ergonomic grips. it feels like a new bike! Overall a great experience thank you! read more

I would recommend this bicycle store as being very cyclist unfriendly. I stopped there on my way back from work because I had almost a flat and needed air in my rear tire. They refused to let me borrow a pump and demanded a donation so that they could give me some air. I said I did not have any cash. They asked that I pay by credit card. I have never encountered this in Vancouver. All bicycle stores leave a pump outside their store for cyclists to get some air free of charge or they will welcome you into their store to inflate any tire. Sidesaddle said that the payment would go to a local charity. If that were true, how about caring about the peiople who ride bicycles in their communauties. Would that behavioue encourage you to service or purchase a bicycle from that store? read more

We went to Sidesaddle on the recommendation of a trusted friend. He must have had a much better experience than we did. We usually read reviews on line prior to buying but naively relied on second-hand experience. We should have read the reviews! We will say upfront that the salesperson we met, Alex was congenial and helpful and as a new hire may help remediate some of Sidesaddles' image. After a test ride, we bought two Marin bikes for approximately $6 500. After a few days of riding I found my bike needed a few adjustments. When I called to explain, I was told a 'personal fit' for the bike would cost $160. This is by no means my first bike. I have been riding for over 35 years and have purchased new bikes every 8 years or so. I have never had to pay to have my new bike 'fit' me. I know enough about how to adjust the seat up/down; back and forth and make a few other minor adjustments so that the bike is now comfortable. We took our bikes in for their 30-day warranty check up. We were met with an attitude we recognized in other reviews. The man we met (the mechanic?) was on the phone for about 10 minutes while we waited - we had an appointment at the time but he made the phone call his priority. He was arrogant, explained away the observations we had made so far on our bike mechanics, and was generally unfriendly. One tire on our bikes had been leaking air. We were able to pump it up and ride it but when we explained it to hIm, he said these tubes need to be pumped up every two weeks or perhaps it was a slow leak. We have never needed to pump up our tires every two weeks but we left it at that and returned the next day to pick up our bikes. Alex met us and the mechanic told him there was a charge for the tube change. The charge was $14 for the tube and $20 for the labour. We were shocked. Our usual bike mechanic at Dunbar Cycle repairs and resets the tube for $12. Suffice to say although we came to Sidesaddle with positive feelings, we will not be back for any maintenance nor will we recommend it to our friends who are now more frequently looking for e-bikes. There are just too many lovely bike shops and employees to be support Sidesaddle. read more

Horrible customer service. The return policy is non existent. Avoid this shop at all costs. After trying out 4 bike seats, I settled on one which I bought and took home. After taking it out for a actual guide, I realized it was more uncomfortable than my stock seat, so I went back to the store. The woman at the desk (rudely) told me that there is nothing they can do for me since it's used, even if just for one short ride. This place has marketing that makes their products and company sound good, but keep your fingers crossed you don't need their help after they've got your money. It's all just talk to get your money then leave you hanging. Very disappointed read more

We hired sidesaddle to build my partner a bike. It has many issues right from the first ride. They were terrible to work with for booking repairs and repeatedly failed to fix the problem and blamed the manufactures rather than take responsibility for their build. I would NEVER recommend this bike shop. In the end they just stopped responding to our request to have the issues resolved. TERRIBLE management and service. read more

Profoundly alienating and unfriendly bike shop. I wanted so much to like this project, but all my visits here have left me feeling unwelcome, which sucks considering they set out to be inclusive specifically of folks like me. On my final straw visit (pre-COVID), I was in the midst of a really hellish day, and rough time in general, and discovered I had a slow leak in my tire. They were the closest shop so I ran my bike there. I just needed air to get home so I could lick my wounds in private. I guess they assumed I was well-off because they charged me for air. For air. Maybe they should ask before assuming, or simply invite people to pay what they can since they're fundraising. Not only that but it took 20+ minutes of waiting in line just to ask for the air, and I got the distinct feeling I was a nuisance. I didn't ask anyone to stop what they were doing to pump air for me. And then the staff person literally stood there waiting while I scraped together enough coins from the bottom of my bag to pay the mandatory air price. Not embarrassing at all :/ The staff are knowledgable but patronizing and unfeeling AF. Go elsewhere. read more

We had a couple of issues with my son's bike that were preventing a family bike ride that we had planned. The kind folks at Sidesaddle, despite being considerably busy, got the issues resolved for us and salvaged what could have easily been ruined plans. They quickly assessed the problems and fixed them. All in short order on a busy day. Sidesaddle will be our go to shop from here on. read more

Beat bike shop I've found in Vancouver. I love how they wash your bike after repairs or tune-up. Very good with communication and vey polite. Made my bike like new. Can't recommend them high enough. read more

Took my Kona bike in for new brake pads and chain. Invoice came too $275.06 which I thought was a little high. Had many problems the day I picked up my bike. Front brake would let out a squeal that could be heard over 100 ft. away. The chain would separate from the sprocket when I hit a bad bump on the road. Returned the bike twice and each time they could not fix my problems. I told the mechanic [ya right] to ride the bike down a steep hill and apply the front brake and he refused to do it. They never did fix the new chain and my front brake still squeals. read more

I had the rear rim replace at Sidesaddle. It was suggested by the bike mechanic that I bring the bike back after 2 wks of riding to ensure the spokes are still in good condition. They took my tire out to check the spokes. When they took the tire out, they twisted the brake pad (squeezing sounds) and loosen the brake. They should correct all the issues as part of the service. Instead, they wanted to charge me $30 for putting things back to the original condition. I had to cycle home using a route with less hills because the loose brakes and squeezing sounds. Very dangerous! I do not wish others experience what I had gone through. Lucky, my partner is a bike mechanic, it took him a few minutes to fix all defectives, which Sidesaddle Bike Shop made. Sidesaddle are taking advantage of people who have limited knowledge in bike mechanics and charge $$ for the problems they caused. Be careful! Think twice before you bring your bike to Sidesaddle for service. read more

Excellent service and very knowledgeable staff. Good prices. Needed work done on my bike, they quoted price, parts and labour, with time frame for completition before starting. Very very happy with everything. Will definatly go back again. read more

You know what? I've been there twice now and this is the last time. If ever there was an energy of "don't bother us" emanating from a place, well this is the place. I was there a couple of minutes before opening time at noon and stepped inside past the half-open heavy metal grill door, to be greeted by a sour faced youth with lilac eye shadow telling me that they weren't open yet. I asked if I could wait where I was but he scowled at me, not a trace of a smile and reluctantly agreed. His boss was busy arranging the float for the till and she was no friendlier, asking what the hell I had a wheel in my hand for. They would do land office business selling ice cubes I can tell ya. I have told you that this is the second time I've been there, don't know why I went back as they turned a $20 job into one that cost $150 last time and still didn't fix the problem.I guess it's just because they are only around the corner from where I live. So this time, when they deemed that they were open, Mr Lilac told me it would cost $30 to replace two spokes in the wheel plus the cost of the spokes. So I said I would buy the spokes and install them myself ( a five minute job even in my inept hands) Then I asked her if she could loosen the disc brake so that I could take the broken spoke out and she said there would be a charge for that. So I asks for two spokes and she proceeds to measure the good ones in my wheel quite roughly, telling me that I probably needed two different sizes but she wasn't really sure. Absolutely useless with no regard for customer service. They've been there for quite a while now and I don't know how they manage to survive with their surly attitude. I would walk on the other side of Victoria Drive just to avoid the vibes shooting out from this place. I wouldn't go back there if a court ordered my attendance. read more

First impressions were great. The young lady I booked an appointment with to try out some bikes was patient and helpful. Once I had chosen my bike, I was a little disappointed by the response when I asked whether I might be able to swap the tires for something more to my liking. Other shops had been quite accommodating, but here it was pretty much "this is the bike you are buying. Anything else will cost. Disappointing, but not a big deal. However, when I came back next day to pick up my new bike, there were no peddles. Peddles cost extra!! I thought they were joking, but nope. Having spent $2300 on the bike, I now had to shell out another $80 so I could ride it home. I have lots of friends with bikes, some much higher end than mine, but none of them have encountered something as ridiculous as that. Do I like my bike? Yes. Will I give this place any future business or recommend them to a friend? God no! read more

Andrea and the team at Sidesaddle are pros. My husband and I purchased custom touring bikes from them. After copious research, we decided on Marinoni, and because they are not sold in the States, we had to find a shop in Canada to sell us the bikes. I contacted Sidesaddle and was very impressed at how responsive they were in e-mail communications. We ended up visiting the shop three times - once for the fitting, once to discuss accessories (the second visit was not necessary but we happened to be in town), and the third time to pick up our beautiful new bikes and complete final adjustments and outfitting. Andrea was meticulous in performing the initial fitting, and ensured that our frames would be built exactly to our specifications. The entire process took several months ("Marinoni does not hurry") but Andrea checked in with us regularly by e-mail to keep us posted, and took the time to investigate accessory options for us, ordering exactly the items we selected (including wine-bottle carriers!) even if they didn't normally stock them. The exchange rate was favorable and we ended up paying less for the accessories than if we had bought them in the States; I don't think we could have found comparable bikes at the same price, either. Because we were able to choose our own colors, our bikes are truly one-of-a-kind. We truly appreciated the crew's expertise, patience, and attention to detail. It was a pleasure doing business with them and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a bike, service, or accessories. read more

I called them ahead of time to see if I needed an appointment as I was looking to buy a bike. I explained that I am a novice rider and am looking for a bike I can ride now but that I can grow into as I become more comfortable with riding. The woman on the phone told me to come in anytime, appointments are not necessary. A week later, I went in and no one was on the floor so I approached someone who looked like the mechanic to let him know that I had called as week earlier and the person on the phone told me to stop in anytime. He was a stoic sort of guy who seemed really confused by it but went into the back and got someone to help me. I told the woman I was interested in buying a bike but have little experience. She asked me a couple basic questions; how often do I plan to ride and the type of bike I was looking for then pointed to their lowest end bike which was priced at $750 plus tax. I didn't like the bike she suggested and wanted to explore some other options but was shut down immediately. She wasn't the friendliest to begin with but once she couldn't just sell me an off the shelf bike, she became curt and dismissive. I guess because she made a judgement call on my financial status and decided that I wasn't worth the time. Bad call. I had certain expectations going in based on information from their website like, they would be willing to work with a novice, they would be friendly, supportive, helpful and they would work with you to find/build you a bike if they didn't have a suitable one in stock. It actually states on their website, "We love fun projects and custom jobs. Let us know what you're looking for and we will help you make it happen." It also states, "...our service department can assist you in finding a used bike on Craigslist." The woman I dealt with wasn't interested in any fun projects, custom jobs or even helping find the right bike through them so I can't imagine they would be interested in helping with finding a bike on Craigslist. What a joke. It is obvious they just want to sell you a new bike and don't really give a crap about finding you the right bike as they claim. It's been a several months since my experience with Side Saddle but I still give it the evil eye every time I walk by. read more

My girlfriend had a slow leak (front tire) on her electric bike and they said they couldnt fix it because it wasnt a model that they sell, she had to walk home as her tire was now flat....After hearing this I took the same front tire off the bike and took it back to the same shop, they fixed it in 5 min. They're also pretty rude and unfriendly. read more

When we arrived I wasn't sure what to expect, looked like a brand-new shop. It only took a few minutes talking to the people there that I was getting the straight goods. Very selfless, honest, and with expert insight. They are seeking to give a high value experience to people looking to improve their ride. They gave lots of props and appropriate recommendations for alternative shops to get what we needed, but their expertise earned their business from me. I bought a bike light, and they earned a return customer. read more

I have been into Sidesaddle a couple times now for smaller things (grips, fenders, etc.) as well as maintenance questions. The mechanics have always been super helpful and willing to offer support even when they are busy. They were never pushy and even offered suggestions to try before having them work on my bike (in the hopes of saving me $). I highly recommend Sidesaddle. They like to empower their customers with knowledge. Way to go Sidesaddle! read more
