I really wanted to check this place out because they offer grass fed meat patties. I came on a weekday during lunch and got some onion rings with a lettuce wrap burger. My lettuce wrapped burger was pretty good. It wasn't anything too crazy. My onion rings were battered not breaded and came with some house made ranch. I like that the ranch tasted like it had chives in it. But the actual onion rings wasn't my favorite. They were dripping with oil. The person I came with got chili cheese fries which were good. Wow. So good. First time ordering here. Pick up. 5 out of 5 on EVERYTHING. The whole order was done correctly with all the add ons and removals and requests on the side. Very rare. I've been craving burgers lately. But not any burger, a SMASH burger. While checking out the menu on Yelp I also noticed this place offers a TON of different sides. Which, in my book, it is illegal just eating a burger without a sidekick The parking is a little tight, it's street parking only and the street does get a lot of traffic. So getting out of the car definitely gave me frogger vibes trying to cross the street without getting ran over. The windows are still cutely decorated for Christmas. The place is small on the inside. But has a good amount of seating still. The walls are lined with old school fast food booths They have a couple menus on the counter which I picked up and glanced over. I already knew what I wanted. A nice worker took my order and then they bring it to your table They do only offer canned beverages but they do have some alcohol choices. I wish they had a soda fountain machine I ordered 2 regular smash burgers and on one I added a small side of onion rings (I believe it was only 3 dollars to add a small side of onion rings, fries or tots to your burger / sandwich) The poutine Cheese curds Fried pickles And two canned sodas. The total came to 61 dollars. Which people might complain about. But seriously people? It's 2024, you can't even order that much at McDonald's for that price. So calm down. My boyfriend introduced me to Sideburns recently and it's quickly become one of my favorite burger spots! Sideburns is nothing fancy, but it's a great place to come for a quick casual bite. The inside has fun paintings on the walls and each table has flowers on it. The employees have always been friendly and the food has been served quickly. I highly recommend the Italian Stallion burger. It doesn't have traditional burger toppings and instead has burrata cheese, sun-dried tomato pesto mayo, grilled tomato, and arugula giving it a very unique taste compared to your average burger. The Works burger is also quite delicious, but has a more traditional taste to it. Only downside of Sideburns to be aware of, is that they charge extra if you want any extra sauces such as ranch. I'm super happy Sideburns is such a short walk from my boyfriend's apartment because for a burger connoisseur like myself, it truly is quite the hidden gem full of yummy food. read more

Had a little time in LB so decided to look for lunch, specifically a burger AND onion rings. Sideburns was not far from my previous destination so plotted a course for it. Place is small but very clean. Decent sized menu but decided to order the classic smash burger with rings. Burger is a good size and well cooked. Cheese and sauce embellish it...but in my opinion the classic needs another element. Some tomato or sliced onion. I could have asked I suppose. Onion rings were perfect - tempura style and not heavy. Such a fantastic hole-in-the-wall spot for the late night burger cravings! I got the Smash Stache burger and the Backyard BBQ burger. Both burgers were straightforward and well done. I also got an order of their fries and onion rings. These onion rings are some no-joke, beer-battered crispy and delicious bites. Honestly, I'm so happy to have found this spot walking distance from all of the local bars, because it's the perfect late night burger spot after some drinks. They have booths and really fun mural art everywhere. They're open until midnight most nights and until 1AM on Friday's and Saturday's. Perfectly balanced delicious burgers, im not a fan of thousand island sauce so i ordered the smashburger without it but they offered me other sauce options and i got the spiced mayo on the side. The fries are so delicious and fresh i ended up dipping them in the spiced mayo. Loved the punk playlist and classic booth tables. Came here with a friend after craving smash burgers. I got the smash burger and added 3 extra patties. The burger itself was okay they weren't really smashed and were more big/beefy then anything. Okay flavor the cheese was sharp and could've used more of their house sauce. I personally didn't enjoy the poutine after ordering it being hungry from the burger. Very salty and gets soggy quick. Just tried Sideburns the other day while visiting a friend in Long Beach. It's a small spot with maybe around 5 tables. I love the fun paintings on the wall (wish I got a picture). The food was pretty good, but it didn't blow me away. They do have every option you can think of - they even have a whole vegan section on their menu which was pretty cool. Their ranch dressing was interesting too - I think it was dill ranch. We also tried buffalo pickled eggs which was new and fun to try. Sadly some of the burgers were just ok - and severely greasy. Arrived, already knowing I *had to have* those beer-battered onion rings!! (Friday, end of the week, great way to celebrate a little before the weekend. ) But the order started off slightly askew...then got a bit worse! Ultimately, we wanted a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with a side of tater tots (well-done/crispy!); garlic chicken wings; a starter of beer-battered onion rings; and 2 cans of Diet Coke. Found out that the order was entered as a "side of tots" (+$3) and a "side of onion rings" (+$3)...but that would have cheated me out of my Friday indulgence. So I had to get my $3 refunded, then charged for an appetizer/full-size of onion rings ($7.50). I also realized I hadn't asked for the tots to be well-done/crispy, so emphasized that point. 15-20 mins later, I found out that the Garlic Chicken Wings were "lemon-pepper" with a *little garlic* [not much of any!]--and only 6 anemic-looking wings were delivered. They were crispy, of varying sizes, but not worth $2/wing! The lemon-pepper sauce was strong-handed on the lemon, light on the pepper and garlic. Overall, they were mid, even compared to Wing Stop or Buffalo Wild Wings. The onion rings were the stars--so lightly battered that they seemed like tempura. Clean, crispy, onions perfectly cooked (still with a slight bite, but cooked through). And to e jalapeño ranch that accompanied them was delicious! The tots were not as crispy as expected...more pillowy and slightly mushy in the middle. About 2 more minutes in the fryer would have done these babies wonders. The buttermilk fried chicken sandwich was an UNwelcome surprise. This place has a grilled chicken AND a Nashville hot chicken sammie too...but I didn't want to be that good, or that bad, tonight. I assumed (wrongly) that the Buttermilk fried chicken would be mayo, lettuce, maybe tomato, and a perfectly fried buttermilk chicken breast piece. Well, instead it had spicy pickle chips, a spicy pickle relish, minimal shave lettuce, and no tomato or mayo. Upon biting into it, it was crispy and battered well, but spicier than I really wanted. When I looked more carefully at the menu, I noticed the spicy notes added to this menu item. *grrr* Both times (onion side vs. full order & fried chicken vs. "spicy" option), you would have thought the employee taking my order would have notified me, clarified the menu, and double-checked that what he input was what I actually wanted. Overall the food was better than expected. The onion rings sang! The customer service/employees were hard to communicate clearly with (and they didn't seem to go out of their way to ensure I got what I really wanted). The environment of the restaurant is LOUD with a long bar speaker right behind the cash registers. So I had to tell my order to the worker...and he couldn't always hear me clearly (probably another reason for the menu mixup?). The small booths 5 "4-tops" and 1 "2-top" and the overall decor was just diner-average. Clean-ish, but not fine dining. Don't expect AC here...just ceiling fans. The price was more than I expected to spend (~$40) for the quantity and quality of the food. Probably better for "take out"...but make sure you know their menu, you ask questions, and you tell them what you want and how you want it. Otherwise, you'll be short-changed and find out the "meal" is more of a snack, for the price of a full meal! read more

I'll admit, my food standards are at an all time low after a late night and a couple drinks. So I was pleasantly surprised when we stumbled upon Sideburns at midnight. This concept is 50% cocktail bar (The Stache) and 50% burger joint (Sideburns). Sideburns has a pretty extensive menu that features a variety of burgers, tots, poutine, and an impressive number of vegan options for late night bites. I ordered the vegan 'The Works' burger, and a side of poutine. The Works includes a Beyond Patty, vegan cheese, beer battered portobello mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, and carmelized onions. I don't normally enjoy Beyond Patties, but Sideburns cooks and seasons theirs perfectly. The burger was so flavorful and juicy. I wish I ordered a second. The poutine was decent, but the fries were instantly soggy, so I'd recommend the tots instead. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in LBC. read more

Wow! One of the best burger places I've ever been to - and probably my favorite in Long Beach! While the outside is unassuming and the inside looks very casual, the burgers here really impressed me. Totally worth the price. There are so many options on the menu and you can't go wrong with any of them. They are all so flavorful with excellent combinations of ingredients and the burger patties are juicy and delicious. I came here with a group of 7 during lunch on a Friday. The man who took my order was very cool and gave me a good recommendation when I was stuck between two items to order. The chef was pretty quick considering the large group of orders. This is a small hole in the wall spot in LB attached to Stache Bar. From the outside it doesn't seem like much, but that's when I had a feeling it was going to be good. The staff gets a bit distracted since they take care of the bar next door, but I didn't wait long for my food and they're all very nice. Plus I had a beer there while I waited for my food. Those are the events that brought me to Sideburns, by the way, I laughed a little harder than I should have at the name. According to their Instagram, the hours are 12-6pm. My order was a simple burger and fries. I chose the Smashburger, which came with cheese, onions, and 1000 Island dressing. I removed the onions and added lettuce and extra pickles. Adding extra pickles took this burger from a 6 to a 10. They could have added more dressing but that's beside the point. My choice of the burger was exactly what I needed, and I'm glad I ended up with it. It had a delicious crispy texture on the edges as well as a juicy middle, and the bun was soft but sturdy. A tasty burger was created with this combination. Now I know where I can get lunchtime burgers. There is a small mom-and-pop feel to the interior. My only wish is that they had more drink options than beer and Yale. I was heading home, so it wasn't a big deal. There was no air conditioning, so if you plan to eat inside, make sure it's a cool day. If the fries were cooked a little longer, they would not have tasted like mashed potatoes instead of fries. Finding parking was not easy around the busy boulevard but got lucky to park out front just to pick up the order. Overall, the portion was decent. The amount of chili cheese fries was a lot also. The cost of food was fair and not overly priced. I liked that they had plant-based options. The food was okay though. Not overly excited about it. I saw someone post about this place, the picture looked pretty good and after doing more research, pictures from their Yelp page looked pretty good. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking (generally 2 hr limit), it can get pretty busy so good luck. Seating: Inside the seating room for maybe about 20 people and 6 groups. Feels: On the oh-so-famous 4th Street but more on the local side but not too far away to get to the beach. It's a grit and grind area in a pretty diverse spot filled with a Jamaican store, Ramen spot, and vegan restaurant. The spot itself is nothing flashy but has some personality. They're definitely Dodger fans (Go Giants), there's a tv assuming for big games, and the spot is decorated with its quirky, playful, art of burgers and fries. FOOD: The Works Burger (Recommend) Delicious taste and pleasant presentation. The bun was puffed and well glazed, the patty was grilled, charred, and juicy, and the pleasant compliments of cheese, onions, cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce, and fried portabello mushrooms were a delight. I don't think I ever had cucumbers in a burger but it was pretty good - fulfilling, refreshing, and a nice crisp. The fries complemented the burger well. I enjoyed the hot, savory, crispness of each fry. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Straight business with personality and professionalism. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars.
