We used to go to Mustards all the time 40 years some ago! We used to take our son there when he was little, and for his 39th BDay he said he wanted to go there. Now mind you that's over the Brazilian Steak House and Wood Ranch I had offered. We hadn't been to Mustards in (shut) 15 years? I was worried the quality was still there. I was! And boy did they grow up. They've blown out the menu the inclusion plethora of item other than hot dogs! The BBQ ribs I had were more than acceptable. Not Wood Ranch or Sweet Lou's but enjoyable! My son said his Chicago Dogs were still second to none and my wife got a hamburger that she claims was 'OK', and my daughter in law got a chicken sandwich she really liked. So overall it was a success. You can't rate the service because there is none. You order at a window, pick it up when ready from said window, and clean up after yourself ... unless you're a jerk. I do recommend them still. New owners clearly (apparently Asian) but the were very sweet and friendly. Lots of smiles. read more

Stumbled on mustards one afternoon just driving down Katelyn. We were welcomed by the Chicago sports ambiance and a large menu with plenty of stuff to choose from. I went with the Sears tower, which is this long dog with chilli that has a hard time staying in the bun. So good, but a little messy. I went with a side of fries and a bowl of that chilli. Fries were standard but the chilli was good the staff was friendly as well. I will come back here in the future to try the rest of the menu. read more

Took my kiddo for an after school hot dog this week and we enjoyed our visit here! The location is really cool and well decorated with lots of space and clean tables. My mom and I went there 11/20/25 and she had the original Chicago hot dog. I just had a glass of water with lemon which was so refreshing. However my mom is from Chicago and she said her hot dog tasted just like the real thing. With all the add ons and that only in Chicago snap you get when biting into the dog. She is a huge lover of Portillo's, but she said that this hot dog was an even better one. So juicy, delicious and satisfying. It was as if she were back in the Windy City. On top of that the employees who work there are so nice, know what they're talking about and informed her how they only use the true Vienna beef dog. One of not the best hot dogs she's tasted in CA and maybe even better than some she's tried in Chicago. All in all it was a great experience with amazing food, people and water. I have eaten here intermittently since the late 1980s. I've probably seen three ownership changes during this time. But the hot dogs don't change. Having spent a lot of time in Chicago this place really brought back good memories, what with all the Chicago memorabilia with a focus on sports covering the walls. Mustard's advertises itself as a Chicago-style eatery, but the menu is loaded with tons of items, hot dogs, hamburgers, sandwiches, donuts, burritos, bagels, fish & chips, steaks, ribs, tuna salad, cheesesteaks, etc. You get the idea. The vibe I get is of a restaurant that can't make up it's mind and is stocked with a multitude of items just like a very well stocked country general store. There are a variety of hot dogs with a Chicago theme. The classic Chicago style dog, the Classic Steam Chicago Dog, is excellent. Good quality dog, lots of vegetables and that green relish, but could have had a tad more celery salt. I would rate this dog just a tiny step below the Chicago dog at the nearby Portillo's. The Wrigley Field Fire Dog is also a good choice. Similar to the classic, except that the tomatoes are removed and spicy yellow mustard added. Equally good compared to the classic. One disappointment was the Sears Tower dog, named after the once tallest building in the world, a one-foot-long dog spread across two hot dog buns. The dog was overcooked and dry. There is so much in the way of toppings (sauerkraut, peppers, relish, shredded cheese, chili, pickles) that it's easier to eat with a knife and fork, kind of defeating the main feature of a hot dog, namely, that it be held in the hand when eating. Another disappointment was the Cajun Chicken Sandwich. It basically was just a chicken breast that had been grilled, no special breading and very little (if any) seasoning with a Cajun characteristic. Very plain. The menu is huge and sometimes there have been product shortages. For example, when I ordered a Corn Beef sandwich, there was only one type of bread available. Another time, there was an item that was unavailable that night, though with the passage of time I've forgotten what that item was. One general comment I'll make is that the menu is huge. Too huge. There are too many items to choose from. There are too many items that they have to keep in stock. Simplicity, with high-quality products, would go a long way. Like what is even going on here. Service was fast and friendly. We tried: Italian Beef Sandwich - you gotta douse it in the au jus and eat it wet, that's the only way. Pretty solid, generous with the meat. If it's not drowning in au jus, it's just an interesting roast beef sandwich. Wrigley Field Fire Dog - a classic (slightly spicy) Chicago dog with tomatoes, neon green relish, chopped onions, brown mustard, and celery salt on a poppy seed bun. It was straight up delicious. Highly recommend this one. Chicago Fire Dog - that same slightly spicy dog, only this time topped with meat chili, shredded cheese, and onions. Also delicious, but definitely on the heavier side. When I lived in Los Angeles recently (for 27 years) there were specific Chicago dishes that I craved everyday: Deep Dish Sausage Pizza, Street Fair Italian Sausage with Sweet Peppers, Stuffed Pizza of any kind, German Food (i.e. Weiss Wurst) , Polish Food (i.e. Pirogi), Gyros, White Castle Sliders (at 3AM or later), Italian Beef with Giardiniera, really good BBQ Rib-Tips, Manny's Deli, Indian Buffet on Devon Ave. (any one will do), Beach-Stand Chicago Tamales (you know, those cornmeal tubes with the brown inside), a Maxwell Street Polish, a Soul-Food Breakfast on the Southside, any "Lettuce Entertain You" Restaurant but especially " Café Ba Ba Reeba", and at the top of the list, a Chicago Style Vienna Hot Dog with everything on it, which I so often needed like blood in my veins, from the Poppyseeds to the Celery Salt and everything in between. But I couldn't find it in Los Angeles, not even at the few places that claimed to serve authentic Chicago food, and there were quite a few. However there was always something missing, starting with the lightly Steamed Poppy-Seed Bun, which I NEVER GOT ONCE. Next item ALWAYS MISSING was the 'Sports Peppers' (even at Chicago actor Joe Mantegna's place, which he opened soon after he moved to LA, so that his beloved friends & fellow Chicagoans could get some much needed relief from the constant stream of California food being jammed down our throats). Don't get me wrong. Los Angeles is one of the greatest 'Eating-Cities' in the World, especially if you like Asian Cuisines, which I happen to Love. But the Chicago Food that I and my fellow Chicagoans miss & crave so much is basically Street-Food, equivalent to items from a Taco Truck, or things one might eat at a backyard BBQ, or at Summer Camp. In reality, Pizza is really the only thing that Ex-Pat Chicagoans craved that actually required a kitchen. Even Ribs just needed a spot on the lawn for a charcoal grill, and everything else could be cooked on a portable camping stove. So this left the BIG THINGS MISSING to be the specific Chicago Ingredients. And NONE OF THEM COULD BE BOUGHT OFF A SHELF IN LA. So when I found "Mustard's Chicago Style Eatery" in Southwest Los Angeles, over a year ago, I was elated. Even the name "Mustard's Chicago Style Eatery" made my mouth water. And after looking at the food coming out, and the happy people eating away, I saw that "Mustard's Chicago Style Eatery" had more authentic ingredients, like the ingredients in Chicago: it had REAL Sports Peppers, REAL Neon Green Sweet, Pickle-Relish, and to my amazement, REAL Poppy-Seed Buns. Even the smell in the place made me feel like I was back home. So I went to the counter and ordered myself an Italian Beef (it wasn't "Al's" but it was the best I've had in California), a juicy grilled Bratwurst (a Sheboygan Brat, not a Weiss Wurst), two Vienna Beef Hot Dogs with everything (right down to the Celery Salt), a bag of Fries (unfortunately No Crinkle-Cut ), & a side of Chili (seeing they have numerous items using chili, because LA Loves Chili), and then I sat my ass down, ready to eat like a Russian prisoner/soldier in the trenches. I've been here twice in my life. Today I was craving a hot dog, so when I Googled it, I remembered about this place but it had been years since I was here, so I had little to no recognition of the food, but I was on a mission. I ordered a side of chili, which came out so late, I almost forgot about it. The "owner" looking lady wasn't friendly AT ALL. In fact, she seemed annoyed we were unfamiliar with the menu. Since I wanted a plain mustard only dog, which wasn't on the menu, she explained to me that she'd charge me the price of the Chicago dog, but leave off the condiments and just put on mustard. I said ok, (whatever) then I realized she charged me $4.29 for it. Even more disappointed when I saw the size. Skinny, short and seemed lost in the bun. Well, I wasn't here to complain, but not happy at all... $20 for two tiny hot dogs, one order of fries, a side of chili (that could possibly have been from a can) and two waters. I'm still hungry. Good place to get fast food, with a strong bent towards preparing food the 'Chicago' way. We've tried different places for Chicago style food since we've moved to California, so was a little disappointed in myself that I hadn't found this place sooner. We had an errand in the Seal Beach area, so decided to stop by for the first time a bit before lunch (10:50 or so). They share a decent size strip mall parking lot, and we had no problem with parking. The first impression walking in: 'that's a lot of Chicago memorabilia on the walls'. Tons of Bears, White Sox, and Blackhawks (mostly from the 80's and early 90's)...which happen to be our teams...so good vibes right off the bat. You order and pay up front, and only one person was working the front at that time of day, so gave us a chance to check out the large menu. It's a classic local grill menu that makes heavy use of a flat top and deep fryers: burgers, fries, hot/cold sandwiches. They also have a large display case of donuts, and a full set of scratch-off lottery tickets. I came for the Hot Dog (Chicago Style), and my wife loves Italian Beef ($9) so we ordered that, and it came about 10 minute later. The Chicago Style dog was ordered as a combo ($10), which came with a small fries and small self-serve soda (pepsi products). The hot dog had all the requisite ingredients (Vienna Beef frankfurter, yellow mustard, neon green relish, diced onions, tomato slices, pickle spear, hot sport peppers, sprinkly of celery salt...all on a poppy seed bun. It would take a lot of effort to recreate this at home, and I really appreciated being able to get it here. It was good, and satisfied. The Italian Beef would satisfy in a pinch: used very thinly sliced beef on a toasted Italian roll topped with stewed onions and green (sweet) peppers, with the gravy and hot giardiniera...fine for SoCal...wouldn't be on the menu in Chicago. None of the ingredients were or tasted particularly fresh, but I don't think you can expect any better from such a big menu that doesn't have the customer throughput to keep the ingredients constantly rotating. The shoe string style fries were great: freshly deep fried expertly with the right amount of salt. I like how they hand out the classic ketchup bottles with your fries (the name might be mustards..but ketchup is OK here on certain things). Prices are very reasonable, the food is prepared quickly, and they have their entire menu from open (breakfast time) to close (dinner time). You can pay digitally first, and pick your seating. Once done, you self-bus. Can definitely come here for lunch and be in/out in 30 minutes. read more
