Fig Poppa (don't be afraid, you can get regular sausage) Latke in the background.

I'm obsessed. My schedule makes it tough to get here when they're open but when I have a random morning off, my mind automatically goes to Side Piece Kitchen. I love seeing what random delicious concoctions they have come up with for their specials. All of the biscuit sandwiches are delicious and I've only tried the cheesecake once, but it was amazing. The staff is busy but friendly. The ambiance is 1970s kitsch, usually loud eclectic music, no kids. On a good weather day, you can sit outside. And don't forget to order the latkes!

My cousin picked up a few biscuit sandwiches for breakfast for us to share. She got the The Hot Hitter, The Loud Pack, and The Sizzurup. They were pretty good sized sandwiches; the biscuits were thick and fluffy. We cut the sandwiches into fours, so that we can all try each. They were all tasty. I think my favorite might be The Sizzurup out of the three. I like sausage on my breakfast sandwiches. I'd love to come back to try more, including their cheesecakes.

Came out for brunch a random morning. A retro vibe to the interior with a good playlist, no matter if you're sitting outside or inside. We had mimosas that did the trick! with the fig poppa and avocado toast. Totally big portions on the avocado toast and was able to have it for leftovers for the next day's breakfast. Hope to come out and try more of their menu again soon!

2nd visit. 20 min wait in line. This place has a 70s nostalgic vibe and decor - love it. They have outdoor dining too. 21+ only for indoor/outdoor dining. They have a very limited menu but for breakfast/brunch it is perfect. If you love breakfast sandwiches, you will love the biscuit breakfast sandwiches. I recommend the Hot Hitter if you like a little spice for breakfast.

This is a great throwback to the 70's with a modern twist to biscuits. I ate the Loud Pack biscuit which was stuffed with prosciutto, egg over easy, aoili sauce and arugula - absolutely delicious and eventually had to use a fork in order to savor all of the flavors. Enjoyed a mimosa with my biscuit too. Love the funky decor of which your mother's cookbook cover could be found on the walls. It's an order at the counter kind of service which is perfect. Free and ample parking. Can't miss this restaurant when I return to the area.

Got there just before 8 a.m. and there was already a line, but service was quick. The biscuits were flavorful, and the avocado portion was generous enough for two people. The cheesecake was fire! Plenty of parking, great music, and a welcoming atmosphere. If you're in the Tacoma area, this place is definitely worth a visit. Just arrive early--popular items sell out fast. We'll be back!

Overall I really enjoyed my visit. First off, I genuinely love the owner, Haley. I'm a big fan of how unapologetically herself she is and how she brings that energy and expression into her business. Like it or not, she makes her stances known, and I respect the hell out of that. It gives the place real personality. My girlfriend surprised me by bringing me here for my birthday after I'd been wanting to try it for a long time, which made the visit extra special. I will say -- and Haley, I know you read your reviews -- the girl who rang us up was a little snippy, which was a bit disappointing, especially on my birthday. Everything was rung up correctly, but the interaction itself wasn't the warmest. Food-wise though? So good!! I ordered the Fig Papa, which wasn't my first choice, but I was told they couldn't cook the eggs the way I wanted on the dish I originally wanted (which felt a little strange). That steered me toward this as a second choice, and honestly, I'm glad it did -- it was delicious, and I really loved it. I do still wish I could've tried my original pick the way I wanted it, but it is what it is. My girlfriend got the weekly rotating menu item -- a Mediterranean biscuit -- and she really enjoyed it. I didn't try it, but it was a huge portion. And let me just say: the biscuits here are unreal. Biscuits are usually a forgettable side for me -- dry, boring, whatever -- but not these. These are hands down the best biscuits I've ever had in my life, and I've been craving them ever since we left. They also had a seasonal pumpkin horchata, which I absolutely loved. It tasted like pumpkin pie in drink form -- creamy, cozy, and exactly what I wanted. For dessert, I got the cranberry bliss cheesecake, and my girlfriend got the Thin Mint cheesecake. Both were fantastic. Cheesecake can be heavy, so the fact that I basically had multiple dessert off this one piece of cake made me so happy. Despite a small service hiccup, the food, creativity, and overall experience were great. I can't wait to come back and try more items -- especially those biscuits again.

Since they took down my previous post. Let me try and say what I experienced in a different way. The place was dirty. Like really gross. And the booth that we were going to sit in had stains of a questionable nature on the seat. Not only that when I commented on it, I was called a liar and put down. I'm not trying to start anything with them, but the stain appeared to be human in nature. As for the food, The biscuits were wonderful but the gravy was disgusting. Maybe we got the wrong thing, but a place that promotes biscuits and gravy shouldn't have orange gravy that tastes bad. I will not be back simply for the attitude and comments of the staff and I don't recommend you go there either

The food, service and cost was on point! So delicious, I wish My stomach was bigger! Highly recommended and We will be back! When they ask your "Biscuit" choice get the Cheese!!!

First time at side piece and we went in on a Saturday morning around 11:20 AM. There was a line out the door so we didn't know how long it would take; however, the line moved pretty rapidly since you order at the counter, you pay and then you choose your seat. There's actually a decent amount of seating so I wouldn't worry about that. We decided to order the hot hitter w/ a cheddar biscuit, biscuits (buttermilk biscuit) and gravy with half sausage and half mushroom, a latke hash brown that comes with sour cream and jam, an iced Horchata, and one ice Horchata cold brew. We waited about 10 minutes before our food came out and we were absolutely amazed. Everything looked and tasted absolutely delicious. The hash brown was evenly fried and it tasted so good with sour cream and jam, the biscuits and gravy were so luscious. The sausage and mushroom combo was perfection as the biscuit soaked up all of the gravy. The hot hitter came with a huge portion of eggs. I wasn't too big of a fan of the tomato jam, but I did love the bacon and cheese and the cheddar biscuit. I 100% recommend everyone go, if I lived nearby, I would definitely go back and try more items from the menu

That's How it Comes

It's been a minute since I've been to side piece probably over a year... the thing I respect most about this business is how much they value their community. I came in on a weekday because I was in the area and rarely does that happen anymore. The person working the register was super chill and laid back and helped me decide between 2 cheesecake. I've tried a few things here and ordered the "That's How it Comes" (apologies if that is not the exact name). It's a basic breakfast sandwich on a biscuit and maybe I'm a basic B, but that has been my favorite thing I've ordered here. It made it all the way home wrapped in its little paper wrapping and was still delicious. Still a 5 star taste and service for me from this Side Piece action.

I know they do not have regular open hours for just walk in purchase, but rather, they're custom order type business, but I have yet to place any custom orders so I cannot speak to that experience. What made me write this review is how accurate the owner (Brianne) described cake and desserts in the description and the baked goods taste matched 200% of the description. The pistachio cake was out of the world, so was the whoopie pie!!! I got to meet Brianne in person and she was very friendly, and was kind to explain everything about each of her baked goods she had out that day. I've tried their baked goods from pop tarts to cookies to housemade Twinkie and the creation and taste are unmatched. Single serve baked goods were more on pricier side, but well worth every bite. I would definitely order custom baked goods from here, knowing the quality and taste of products from this shop!!! Currently, you can find Spilled Butter baked goods at Cosmonaut coffee, Outer Dark Coffee, and at Tacoma Farmers Market (also known as Tacoma Broadway Farmers Market) from time to time. Enjoy!!!

The shop is small with seats inside (a dozen?) and a few more out front. The day we visited three sorbetto flavors (at least 3) were available plus all the gelato. I started with a small cup of sorbetto, half lemon, half strawberry. This lemon is deliciously tart. I was so happy. The strawberry is naturally sweet and flavorful. Neither was overly sweet and they were very refreshing. We purchased a pint of chocolate to take with us. I am soooo glad we did. The chocolate flavor is so rich. Again, not overly sweet. It has a pudding like texture yet it's so light. I can't explain it. It's just sooo good. A drink cooler is at the back with water and other beverages. One bathroom for customers. Ask for the door code. The price does reflect the quality and in this case it's a fair trade imho. The gentleman who assisted us was very patient while we decided what flavors to try and was happy to speak about gelato. Credit cards accepted. If you enjoy gelato, or sorbetto, add Medzo to your list of 'must try' stops.
