If you're looking for some authentic Sichuan cuisine, this a great option. When it comes to sichuan cuisine, it's all about the spice. The house chili oil used in popular appetizers like their beef and tripe medley as well as garlic white meat (AKA boiled pork belly with garlic sauce) is fantastic: it is bold, slightly sweet, and a good amount of heat. I should mention that many of the photos in their menu are just stock photos so some of the dishes will be different (e.g, they use book tripe rather than honeycomb) but don't let that deter you - the overall dishes are tasty and portion sizes larger than what is displayed. Whether you go with traditional stewed beef with bean curds or lighter fare (such as their stir fried green beans, you'll find that ingredients are fresh and the execution of these dishes is excellent. If anything, their dishes could use even more spiciness - but I understand that not everyone appreciates the tingling/numbing spice sensation as much as I do :) I'm pretty new to the city so finding places like Sichuan Palace bring me great comfort in knowing that the city is diverse and has a nice range of authentic Chinese food. I recently had an extremely disheartening experience at Sichuan Palace that I feel compelled to share. As a customer, I believe it is crucial to shed light on issues that need attention. Upon visiting Sichuan Palace for a to-go lunch order, I encountered a situation that left me deeply upset. The waitress who took my order displayed a concerning lack of customer service skills, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt, hoping for a better experience when I returned to collect my food. However, when I returned to the restaurant to pick up my order, things took a distressing turn. I saw a to-go bag containing food and asked the waiter if it was mine. Instead of verifying, he responded with a disrespectful look and an unequivocal "No." So, I assumed I had to wait for my order to come from the kitchen. Moments later, I noticed one of the kitchen staff members bringing food to the same waiter. I watched her closely to see if it was my order. When she handed the food to him, they exchanged words in Chinese. Suddenly, the waiter asked me if I needed a fork and napkin, to which I replied affirmatively and approached him. To my shock, I realized that the bag he was about to hand me was the very same bag I had inquired about earlier, the one he had initially denied was mine. I questioned him about this, and he casually responded, "What am I going to do?" I was deeply disappointed by his dismissive attitude. I couldn't help but wonder if his behavior was influenced by my skin color, as it became evident that he treated others of his own ethnicity differently. This experience served as a stark reminder of the hidden biases that exist among individuals, even within the Asian community. I also raised this issue with the female manager, hoping for a more understanding response. However, all she could offer was, "Maybe he's having a bad day." This incident may not seem significant to some, but for me, it was a stark example of how even within a racial group, people can harbor biases and treat others based on the color of their skin. It's a sobering reminder of the work that remains to be done in combating racial discrimination. Shame on Sichuan Palace for allowing such behavior to persist. It's my hope that by sharing this experience, we can raise awareness and encourage change. Discrimination should never be tolerated, regardless of its form or magnitude. We got this delivered last night on DoorDash. It was soooo good. My husband is Chinese and both he and I agreed that this was one of the best authentic representations of Chinese cuisine. My family and I ate lunch at Sichuan Palace today and it was AMAZING, authentic and super TASTY. My wife and her family are Cantonese and they loved the dishes we got. The plating was very nice (it looked like the menu photos), the portion sizes were really good (we went went home with extra food that we couldn't finish) and the food preparation was great. We would certainly go back. The dishes that we got were the Dandan noodles (appetizer, spicy and has Sichuan pepper corn), wonton with Sichuan chili oil, Chinese's eggplant with garlic sauce, snow mushroom with baby bok choy, kung Pao chicken (Asian style) and fried rice special (ie meat combo). All dishes were delicious and very different from each other. My wife said she would get the dandan noodles for herself only next time because it was soo good she didn't want to share :). We have been there dining in twice since opening. Every time there were only one other party besides us. Pros: The service is friendly and attentive. The place is clean since it's newer. Food was well prepared and tasted authentic. Cons: Price is rather high considering the smaller portion. It cost two of us around $80 including tax, no leftover, and I'm a girl with small stomach. Both times the wait time for the food were pretty long, although there were only two tables of customers. They might be busy with take outs. Mapo tofu is rather bland and mediocre. We asked if they had fresh fish for a fish dish and the boss lady promised the fish was alive before cooking. But when the dish came out, the fish was tender but it was obviously cooked from frozen fish fillet. The tenderness was from the corn starch or something else that Chinese cooking uses to tenderize meat. We would appreciate the honesty. Both times the boss lady recommended us the most expensive dish on the menu, which I heard from friends that it was not worth the price, so we didn't order it. The crab Rangoons are the best out of all the Chinese places I have been to around UC. They were a good size and came with 6. The general tso's was good, and surprised me by how much there was. It didn't look like much, but ended up being more than enough food. It was high quality and came with white rice. The only downside was the price, which was a bit much, but the quality of the food justified it.
