I just completed a whole-house shutter project with Shutter Guy and could not be happier with the result. Michael White is an excellent professional and just all around great guy to work with. He always returned my calls and emails, and he followed up on any remaining details before, during, and after the install. His estimates and proposals are detailed and accurate with no "surprises" after the order is signed. With Shutter Guy, you actually don't have to do anything to get measurements taken and the install completed. Michael does the interior design and selection for you based on your house plan or your current decor, he knows every single product he offers in detail and can help you choose the perfect product based on your style and budget, and after you sign the order he schedules the measurements, installation, and quality assessment. On my project, Michael did everything for me and the project could not have gone any smoother. Did I mention Michael is just an all around fun guy to work with? I was completely at ease working with him throughout the project from beginning to end. The solid wood shutters we received were of excellent quality. The trim color and hardware matched the sill boards and door hardware already installed in our home exactly. The shutter trim makes standard wallboard window openings look finished and perfectly square. Our rooms with lots of sun exposure are running cooler now in August because we can close the shutters during the hottest part of the day. We can sleep better at night because the shutters do a better job of blocking all the outdoor light pollution in the neighborhood. We have a much finer control over how much light comes in the home than any other type of window covering will allow. The shutters are easy to operate, easy to clean, and provide easy access to the windows when needed. They aren't cheap but they are in my opinion the best window covering you can buy. The shutters I received are built to last the life of the home and they aren't going out of style so I never have to do drapery repairs or upgrades. I didn't shop the job around because after meeting with Michael I didn't want to work with anyone else. So I can't comment on his pricing relative to others. And frankly I don't really care. I've bought products from bargain companies that totally screwed up the experience so badly I couldn't look at the product again without being reminded of the trauma the installers caused me (I'm talking about YOU Sears). I've paid premium prices thinking that would fix the problem but got the same result (this comment is for you Factory Builder Stores). I wanted to look at every window in my house with pride, not loathing so I was NOT going to hand this deal over to just anybody with a quote sheet. Michael came to my home during the install to make sure it went smoothly and to answer any questions. Pepe', the factory installer, is the hardest working guy you will find anywhere. And he treated the shutters like they were his own and it's his house he's working on. Every nail he uses is set, filled, and painted until it's invisible. Every joint is finely caulked and painted better than the builder did when the house was built. A friend of mine came over and asked how the shutters were installed. I couldn't find any of the finish nails used to fasten the shutter to the window opening. I watched Pepe' nail the shutters in but damned if I can show you where after the job was completed. Spooky. The bottom line for this paragraph is if the people you are working with are sub-standard they will do sub-standard work because that's how they are regardless of the price you pay for their product or their work. It wouldn't matter to me if Michael was selling shutters or water balloons. If I needed it I would buy it from Michael. He really is that good. Our home was nice before but it has been dramatically improved with the shutters we bought from Shutter Guy Austin. I'd do it again without a second thought. read more

We just had 5 all wood kiln dried Basswood plantation shutters installed in our master bedroom and stairway. From stat to finish Michael was exceptional. First he was able to come out within a few days of contacting him. Michael was not only on time but early, that never happens to me. Michael went through all the options split rail, tilt rod, installation border, louver size etc. Who knew there were so many options. We previously had a big box store install polycore shutters in the rest of our home, what a mistake. The quality of Michaels product is night and day from the box. I was not given any options when we did those. Michael with Shutter Guy made the entire process seamless. My new shutters were custom painted to match my existing trim, wow, again who knew. Our shutter installation was earlier than originally promised and the detail that Bobby had placing my shutters was outstanding. He was extremely meticulous and constantly washing his hands so he did not dirty my brand new shutters. Also the estimate we received from Michael was almost 500.00 LESS than the big box store not to mention we even got a fifth shutter that the big box didn't quote. While Michael was at our home I happened to mention we needed to get our house painted outside this summer. He piped right up and said he had a guy. He immediately texted me the contact information. We and our neighbors have hired his referral for our projects. Every single step with Michael is top notch. I have 2 more windows that I am going to have Michael do next and that will unfortunately complete our house. Michael White helped me select and purchase shutters for the front of my house, which is westward facing. One of our very old Hunter Douglas silhouette blinds had broken last summer and the heat was blistering. Michael came out to discuss options within a couple of days of my calling and the next week was here again to do final measurements. I was primed that it could take from 5 to 6 weeks but I think I had them in about two weeks. I did not get any other quotes but had installed 2 shutters in one bedroom of a previous house. This was three rooms and all of the windows were double or triple and I know that the price was less than double what the previous job had been. I was astounded! Since Michael does not use a show room (less overhead) I would suggest potential customers to look around at local Hunter Douglas show rooms to get a good idea what you want first. For two residences in southwest Austin, I have had an opportunity to work with Michael The Shutter Guy. For both residences, I wanted Hunter Douglas cord free honeycomb shade. Based on the ceiling height, Michael recommended I get them with the powerview motor. I have been very happy with the product. And, the overall experience was perfect both times. Michael scheduled time with me to see the windows, talk about the reasons I needed the coverings (sun for some of the windows, privacy for others). He helped me narrow down the choices and gave me great guidance on where to use room darkening blinds. He also suggested lower cost options for rooms (like the garage) that had HOA requirements but did not need the powerview motor option. Michael and his team were always on time, they communicated what the next steps would be and the timing. And, when there was a additional wifi option available that would facilitate home automation, Michael made sure I had what was needed. And, he showed me how to use it! Ok if I could give more stars I would have!!! I had the best experience with Michael from start to finish. I did get additional quotes from 4 other shutter companies and his quote was by far the best. Not only were they made in the USA with real wood he also took the time to get my trim paint color and made sure my new shutters would match perfectly. Other company's bring a sample of trim colors and you pick one that sort of works or closely matches. Great extra touch that makes your custom shutters look even that much better. Installation was exceptional Pepe took his time installing my shutters making sure they looked great. I even committed on his workmanship. It's hard to find someone who takes pride in what they do, it was as if he was installing them in his own home. He made sure our hardwood floors were protect from his tools, all nail marks were filled and painted and he chalked around the shutters to give a seamless look. My wife and I were building a home in Dripping Springs, TX while living in Florida. Michael was a breath of fresh air compared to the logistical nightmare we faced with most contractors throughout our long-distance home construction. His prices are incredible considering the quality of his product (i.e. real wood). I received a quote from 3 other companies before moving forward with Michael and they were all 50% -100% more expensive for lower quality faux wood. After installation on my home Michael ended up installing shutters on my neighbor's house. While walking by my house he noticed a defect with one of my garage window shutters that I hadn't even noticed. I recently purchased an 1950s cottage-style house and updated the interior before moving in. The last task was window coverings. Michael came to our home, showed us many different options through samples, educated us about various choices, measured all of the windows, and provided us with a quote. The initial consultation was free and Michael took all the window measurements, educated us on the various options for window treatments (we were exploring blinds and shades) and provided quotes within 1-2 days. I also got quotes from couple of other places and found that Michael had the best quote for what we were looking for. Eventually we went with Michael to do our blinds (wood blinds). After confirmation it took about 3 weeks to get our wood blinds and installation scheduled. The installation took about couple of hours and the blinds were installed neatly and they look great. Michael White came to my home, measured my windows and I received a quote the same evening. However, I decided to go with 3Day Blinds because they could install sooner (14 days instead of 21) and had a polyester roman shade collection for my back door (easier to clean). However, going with 3Day blinds was a huge mistake bc they got the measurements wrong on my kitchen window woven wood shade, shortening my shade to 93" when 94.75-95"was needed, leaving a ~1inch gap on either side. It was a huge pain to refund! But Michael White with The Shutter Guy saved the day. After several months of working with 3Day blinds to get a refund, Michael White got me the right shades! Michael is great. I had him come by (in the pouring rain) to measure some very large and oddly shaped windows for wood shutters. He did so quickly and carefully and gave me a bid onsite. It was THOUSANDS cheaper than a popular competitor. He communicates via phone, text and email which makes it so much easier when trying to schedule an install date or answering quick questions. The shutters arrived and were installed perfectly. Michael and his installation man, Joel, had two louvers replaced because he thought they were slightly warped, even though I couldn't tell at all.
