Several years ago I ordered gorgeous solar shades from my Shade Store in Austin, Tx. The product quality was top notch. I gave a negative review in 2020. In 2023 I worked through a local designer to order new shades and drapes. The designer suggested she could make the experience with The Shade Store a positive one, so I went ahead. It turned out to be very positive, with the shades and drapes arriving on time, perfectly measured and installed, and exactly what I was looking for. Lately I needed some minor service. I didn't feel the need to go through the designer, as The Shade Store has a service chat line available. The experience was why the 4 stars. I never heard back and ended up making a call to the store and having to leave a message. Then someone called and went over the problem and said someone would get back to me. Crickets. Then a week later an email from a "Customer Experience" person saying they wanted to troubleshoot over the phone. Fair enough. Then I solved the problem myself. I let him know but never heard back, such as "Great!", or, "Let me know if you have another problem", or...anything. Those crickets again. Service after the sale seems to be the one area The Shade Store should set their sites on improving. The communications were abysmal. I hope they do, as the product is excellent. read more

I am so in love with my new roller shades! I loved working with the Shade Store - they made everything easy from start to finish! Visiting the store room was a great way to refine all the amazing options that are available to you and select what you love, as well as ask questions. I was impressed with their guidance and how much they listening to what I was looking for in a final product. Linde was incredible to work with and doesn't pressure you into anything. She is happy to price out any option and then let you drive the process as fast or as slow as you'd like. From there, they came and took measurements and once I purchased the products, we scheduled the install. The install was professional and quick, and I couldn't be more in love with the final outcome. I love the shades we purchased and the staff in the store, but we got those that you can schedule through an app, but they suck at apps and troubleshooting. I purchased these so that they open and close at certain times because my mother is in a wheelchair and cannot get to certain windows. They put out a new app and no longer supports the old app. The new app now requires an additional piece of equipment, ridiculous! When reviewing the app, all the guy says to everyone is... I recently moved to Austin and got bids from several different window covering stores in the area. I went with The Shade Store. Although they were slightly more expensive, I loved Constance and had faith in her ability to deliver what I wanted. She assured me when I made the purchase it would be 3 weeks to install. Amazingly the shades arrived quickly via FedEx. I called to see if I could get my appointment moved up and was told no. No problem. I was offered 1 day before but was advised against it because it was a mid-day appointment and my appointment was the first one the next day and that meant a better "guarantee" of me being first in line. So, ok. Fast forward to my appointment 3 weeks after my payment, just like Constance said. At 8:01 (my appointment was 8-10 a.m.), I received a call from their 1-800 number that they needed to reschedule due to unforeseen circumstances. Super bummed. But then was told the next available appointment wasn't for 4 more weeks. FOUR WEEKS. So, that means 7-8 weeks since my payment and measurements were done. It's Austin. In the summer. Its 108 outside this week. My house is hot. I have no privacy. And now they can't get to me for another FOUR WEEKS. The Shade Store is expensive. And sadly, they don't prioritize you there if they have a mess up. I would not choose them again, even with Constance being great. I put my faith and trust in her as my sales person, but that only goes so far when the installation doesn't happen and you have your family visiting this weekend. read more

I ordered a single blind that needs "extended" brackets, because the installer who measured for the blind specified a one inch overhang from the trim, so the brackets would need to be screwed to the wall, not the trim. The original shipment included standard brackets to be screwed into the trim, I presume, so I worked with Customer Service who said I needed extended brackets and would overnight ship them. I waited days and never got them so called Customer Service who blamed an overworked warehouse and a backordered item. I said I would accept a different coler, but C.S insisted they'd deliver the black color I wanted. I eventually got a replacement 3 weeks later, but they were not any longer than the original item! I called and they said they'd have an installer virtually meet with me...in five days! I can't understand why a zoom call would take five days. It should be same day, imo. I'm just a lowly homeowner who wants to self-install, but I would think a professional designer/builder/architect would be out of business relying on this company. I would like to keep the blind; there is a problem in service, though the people spoke nicely and respectfully. I'm expecting what the price of the product dictates...otherwise I would buy from 3 day Blinds.com. Very disappointed. read more

I worked closely with Constance at the Austin shade store and had excellent service all around--from getting samples through installation. Highly recommend! We LOVE our roller shade and woven shades. The quality is top tier and I am a committed customer. In fact, I am setting up a meeting today with Constance to order curtains for our daughter's room. The only problem area, which definitely needs to be addressed, is the messaging service. As others have mentioned, emails and voice messages were routed through a main server and sometimes did not make it to Constance. If I did not hear back from Constance within a day, I followed up with a call to the store's direct number and easily reached her. read more

If you want to spend thousands of dollars on shades that don't provide full darkness and be told to go on Amazon for further assistance, then I strongly recommend the shade store. The product itself is fine, they look nice and the motorized system works great but there is simply not darkness in the room at times in the day and when we asked about getting them out here to see what a solution would be, we were recommended to go on Amazon. We have a newborn and depended on shades for darkness for their naps. Now we're needing other options to supplement the $7k we spent on shades for our master bedroom. I am someone who leaves very positive reviews the vast majority of the time, but we spent this money for a specific reason, and it simply doesn't provide the solution we paid for. read more

I love my drapery. It was bought at Restoration Hardware and tailored, measured and hung by the Shade Shop. I worked with Ananda Adams-Zmolek. She is excellent. She made sure the job was done right. She is very solution focused and made sure I got just what I wanted. I had to reach out several times, and she was very patient and positive with me. So rare these days. Run from this company! A few years back, we contracted with the shade store to install a shade for a large window opening in our bedroom. It took two tries to get it right but we finally got there in the end. I decided to go ahead and get the remaining window in the bedroom covered in the same shade, as well as two french doors as well. The shades eventually showed up, and were the wrong color. They did not match the existing shade. After considerable time and effort that I had to spend on this (my sales associate was too busy to help due to the increase in COVID orders), I determined that the color we originally had had been discontinued. Instead of informing me of this, the shade store just sent a different color. In addition to the shades being the wrong color, the new window shade valance and shade length did not match the existing shade, even though it was ordered to be exactly the same. Also, the door shades were lopsided, and the installer told me he didn't know how to fix this. The shade store then agreed to remake all of the shades in a new material so that everything would match. The second shipment arrived. The window shades were the incorrect lengths and widths and currently do not match. The door shades are lopsided again, and again the installer could not fix this. I then received a third shipment for one of the window shades - incorrect again. Now in addition to window shades that are uneven lengths, the door shades have gotten worse. One is now completely broken. The other is even more lopsided. Evidently 3 times is not a charm. I am now requesting a full refund from the shade store, but am not optimistic they will honor this. I don't think I'm a Shade Store type. I contacted them along with three other firms for new custom shades in my home. Every other vendor - all highly rated on Yelp - had someone out to measure my home within a business day. For some reason I wasted almost a week in email corresponding with a design consultant who was located in New York trying to schedule a measuring appointment date. Bottom line, it took almost a week just to get the measurements taken. Note also the emails were very clear I could not ask the measuring tech any design questions. Okay. I love being told what I can't do before I even start doing business with you. Then it was another two or three days after the measurements were taken for my consultant to want to set up a call to discuss my needs. Bottom line I'm into this process for 10 days with no clue what the Shade Store will do or cost. Every other (local!) vendor had quotes and samples in less than 24 hours. I never got that far with the Shade Store. Moral of the story? Check Yelp and go local. read more

The blinds look gorgeous and they arrived fairly fast... Custom window coverings take time to measure order and install... Usually about a month or more but we needed to expedite the process when moving into our new home. The team at The Shade store helped find rush shipping and delivery options for us during the busy holiday season. We really appreciated the team's availability and they did a great job of pulling together to get our order shipped, delivered and installed 2 days before Christmas. We had house guests coming for the holidays and wanted to make sure the guest room had blinds. Our order was delivered half on one day and half on the next day even though it all shipped together. Of course the guest room blinds didn't arrive in the first shipment! The Shade Store was not to blame for this and they sent two installation professionals on two separate days to get the job done. I was really impressed that they got someone out so fast as their appointment initially had to be booked two weeks in advance. It was a Christmas Miracle that the blinds made it into the guest room before the houseguests arrived for the holidays! read more

This has been the worst experience I have ever been through. Not only are these shades outrageously expensive, but the ones that I was sold did not work for our lifestyle (we raise and lower our shades every day). Not only that, but the shades were installed incorrectly, so every time we raised them, they got pulled too taught and would not flatten out. After countless phone calls and messages, and working with corporate, we received new shades. These ones were supposed to work better however, we are having the same issue with the install- and they do not go up or down correctly. It has been a complete nightmare and I would save your thousands of dollars and go somewhere else. read more

From the moment we walked in the door Colleen was phenomenal. We knew nothing about the company except what we read from a flyer we received. She met us with such friendly, polished professionalism, we were immediately at ease. She demonstrated a sincere desire to help, and LISTENED to what we had envisioned for our place. She educated us, answered our many questions, guided us on choices based on our feedback, and communicated often. I never had a doubt as to the possibility of choices or the status of things, because Colleen responded timely to every email. She connected us to Kasey at Blind Tech, who was fabulous in measuring and installing the shades. Kasey installed the shades just two days after they were delivered to me. The worst customer service, blackout shades delivered with holes in them, and then installed crooked so they all unraveled! Do NOT buy from these guys! Seriously bad! Thank you for responding. I just mailed you a letter detailing my continuing problems and frustrations with your company. My file apparently hasn't been updated to show the continuing problems that linger more than a year later. All of my shades were installed crooked, many had holes in them, and finally, after all this time, I am still trying to get reimbursed for having to pay for the replacement shades to be installed so they hang straight. Someone named Chuck at your headquarters promised reimbursement and then ignored my messages and failed to send the reimbursement. That's led me to take to Yelp. I shopped around for window treatments when I moved into a new home. I got the best service, advice, and final product from The Shade Store. I started by going into the store and talking with Nancy. I showed her photos of my home inside and out and explained what I wanted (matching shades in all living areas, room darkening shades in bedrooms, but something that would look close to the same from the outside). She helped me navigate the different fabric choices along with pros and cons, and all the optional design choices, and went out of her way to find out information about the production process to ensure one of my questions was answered. Ultimately I chose roller shades instead of Roman shades and I felt the quote was very reasonable. I also had another company do an in-home consultation and while the advice was also quite good, the fabrics were not nearly as nice or upscale as those offered by The Shade Store, and the prices were the same (and production time was slower!). I loved the fabric samples Nancy gave me, including different room darkening/backing options. When I went back to place the order, we walked through it with me painstakingly. One mistake slipped past both of us, which I noticed during installation and which the installer, Blind Tech fixed on the spot. (Blind Tech was the installer who was recommended by The Shade Store and they were also awesome -- I would highly recommend them for measuring and installing!) A few days post-installation I noticed a series of tiny holes in one shade that could only have happened during shipping or production. One email to Nancy and I had someone in corporate calling me and offering to ship me a new shade for free. They did it quickly and Blind Tech came out to re-install it for free. I will absolutely use The Shade Store for any future window treatments. read more

With the experience at the store, and the measuring process, I originally was going to give a 5-star review. Then the shades arrived.... Let me start by saying the quality and craftsmanship of the shades are truly superb, and we love the rolling blinds with the remote control (highly recommend). It's just unfortunate that it took so many tries to get it right. The corporate customer service representatives were very courteous, and professional, and really did work to make everything right, which is why this is a 3-star rather than a 2-star review. We have very wide windows, with one being exceptionally out of square. When the measuring tech was at the house, I told him for the out of square window, the SHADES needed to extend at least one inch on either side of the window. He apparently did not put this on the order, so when the shade arrived, it was the exact width of the window (the valance extended one inch on either side), so when closed it had gaps that negated the "blackout" effect. The response from the installer is that the designer at the showroom has the final call for dimensions of the shade, but acknowledged there was no note of the window being out of square. Shade had to be returned to be remade. We ordered roman shades for our bedrooms, again with very wide windows. When placing the order, I was given the option of "continuous loop" closing mechanism, or the standard pull string (pull to open, pull to the left to release). I asked if there was any difference/preference for the type of shade and was told it was customer preference. I opted for the standard pull string. Well, when the shade arrived, there was a child safety device that attaches all the pulling mechanisms with a MAGNET. Needless to say, with the weight of the shade, it kept coming apart, with the strings constantly getting tangled. When I talked to corporate customer service, I was told that for the size of the shade, they strongly recommend the continuous loop mechanism. Apparently the designers at the showroom do not know this. They offered to replace the mechanism for no charge. Three more shades to be returned. Finally, one of the windows had a very narrow clearance (window inset less than one inch in wall - others had 2 inches) for the shade to be installed. I asked the person measuring if this would be an issue and he said it shouldn't but the designer would let me know if it was. Ultimately the shade is now installed, but the "blackout" does not really work because of the 1.25 inch gaps on the sides of the roman shades that let light in. The shade stands out from the window due to the small installation space. The installer had many recommendations (primarily not to have a roman shade in this room), but a bit late in the process. This is a guest bedroom so I have chosen not to do anything because I just want this install done. Unfortunately I did not feel that the in-store consultant/designer properly reviewed the project, so that she could give advice on the types of shades, sizes, and closing mechanisms. If that had been done, then the returns would not have been necessary. read more

Great company to work with. I ordered a custom oversize mechanical shade (12' X 13'...yeah, that big), their quote came in $1500 less than others. They sent me fabric samples immediately to choose the level of screening (and color) I wanted. After choosing that it was a very short time to manufacture and ship the shade. The installers were fantastic - skilled, professional and punctual. The shade itself is nearly 100% quiet. We were looking for a way to modernize our space during a massive renovation on a new home. Window treatments are surprisingly important during this process. Everything from the color, size, shape, and material can have a dramatic effect not only on the design of the room, but also the amount of natural light and heat from the sun. Our former apartment had roller shade designs that worked very well for us, and after some research we decided to stop by The Shade Store to apply the same technique in our new home. At the end of the experience, and with several months of use now, we can honestly recommend this store to everyone looking for any kind of window treatment option. Their selection, their options, their style, and their employees are all top notch. We had the pleasure of working with Jillian, who could not have provided more time, care, and attention to our project. She gave us a full tour of the store and showed us everything so that we would understand the difference between their product and fabric variations to make an informed decision. Jillian even called the factory to make some fine-tuned, last minute adjustments to our order to make sure we were satisfied with the final product. And honestly, we could not be more satisfied. These shades are built to last using strong components. You can select options like your brackets and chains, as well as, obviously, your fabric. The color options are phenomenal, and it really is worth the time to go through every drawer and choose the color you'll most enjoy along with the type of shade fabric you want. There are multiple types of fabric that all have varying degrees of transparency and heat protection, so from a design and utility perspective it's very important to pick the right one. Fortunately, Jillian talked through all of this with us so we knew what we wanted and needed. In our home, we have an upstairs office that gets the sun during the hottest hours of the day, and the blackout shades have significantly reduced the heat in the room and removed any glare from computer screens. They really do work, and they look amazing. We selected the self-installation option. It was relatively easy to install on our own, but it's worth noting that The Shade Store also offers professional installation. Depending on the height of the window and size/width of your shade, you will likely need a ladder and a second pair of hands to get everything into place if you do it yourself, but it's nice to know that they can provide you with that service if you need it. There are guarantees in place that your shade will fit the space, because they do professional measurements before the order is finalized. We had no issues with our shades, but I understand the company will correct any size errors immediately if you should encounter them. All in all, we couldn't be happier with the way the shades turned out. They've reduced the heat in our home (which is a big deal here in Texas!) and they look extremely modern and professional. Frustration. While Jillian at the actual store is a pleasure to work with, things immediately fall apart as soon as The Shade Store hands you off to contractors (like Blind Tech) who measure your windows and who are supposed to... eventually... do the actual install. We're talking about days to get phone calls returned, and then only after we chased them. We're talking 5 weeks of leaving messages, not receiving responses, and chasing updates from the time we initiated the process to the now-promised installation appointment. That's roughly 1.5 weeks to get Blind Tech to come to the house to measure the windows... 1.5 weeks for the custom blinds to arrive... and now another 2 weeks before Blind Tech can actually show up to do the install. Time will tell if the final product is worth all of the hassle, but at this point.. as we sit here with plastic on our windows and boxes of uninstalled blinds on our floor for another 2 weeks, there is no way we would recommend The Shade Store to someone who asked for our feedback. UPDATE - within an hour of the above review being posted (Thursday), The Shade Store contacted us with an offer to have our blinds installed ASAP on Saturday. The installation was done by an awesome contractor named Manny and we are very happy with the final product. However... although no one ever mentioned it, I have to wonder if the poor Yelp review above was the catalyst for their sudden interest in ensuing that we were satisfied customers (?). read more

So far my husband and I are not impressed with The Shade Store. Hillary at the showroom was great, very helpful in explaining all about the different systems and fabrics (except for a little detail, keep reading) and so was Leslie. The measuring went without a hitch, we received a quote right away and the order was placed. After a couple of weeks, we finally received all the boxes and scheduled the installation with Blind Tech. We got an email from Zach Gibbs, one of the founders, thanking us for our order, another one from Hillary --nice touch. Loal, the installer from Blind Tech, showed up on time to do the installation... but that's when things begin to go downhill. After installing the track and the right panel he realized we were missing a baton. No big deal, Loal called TSS immediately and requested one. Then, his assistant realized we received two right-side panels. Loal says they'll get in touch with TSS again and figure it out, he's very apologetic, even though this is not his fault. He packs everything and we are left looking at a half-covered sliding door (I've thrown away my temporary shades by then). Well, at least we get to enjoy part of the nice product we purchased, right? Upon closer inspection, I realized there are two seams running from top to bottom on the right side of the panel and a third seam on the lining side of the panel. They don't look like they're supposed to be there, it looks more like narrow pieces of fabric were added to complete the panel, quilt-like. I called Hillary and told her about all these things, I also wrote an email and attached photos and a video and copied Mr. Gibbs on it (time to see how hands-on he really is, we thought). Hillary was very apologetic and said she'd take care of everything until we are satisfied. Jocelyn from Customer Service sent an email with instructions on how to ship the panel to have it "repaired." I thought they knew we didn't have it. I responded, copying Blind Tech, telling her to please get in touch with Blind Tech. Blind Tech confirms and requests a return label, it seems everyone is on the same page now. A week later we hadn't heard from anyone so I sent an email to everyone at TSS. That was two days ago and I have not heard back from anyone but I did receive an email with a Repair Ticket number for the left panel, nothing addressing the right panel. I called Customer Service today and they told me I can expect the left panel to arrive in a week or so. As for the right panel, the one hanging in my living room, the rep told me the seams are normal as I selected a fabric that is only 54 inches wide. This is the first I hear about the possibility of receiving curtains made up of several narrow pieces of fabric! I was also told to wait until everything is installed because the installer will hang them in a way that should make them 'disappear.' Again, we were reassured that they'll make sure we're satisfied. We're not convinced but we're willing to give them a chance. We were expecting the service and quality of a high-end business but we're somewhat disappointed. I will come back to add another star if they really figure out a way to make the unsightly seams disappear. read more

Having built my entire house, I have to say the shades were by far the easiest and most pleasant experience of all. Between the excellent customer service and the super polished website I was shocked at how smoothly everything went and the icing on the cake was how easy they were to install!
