Closed for the season. We visited last evening, having read the reviews. The whole Pioneer Village, restaurant and cabins, was deserted.

Horrible experience! DO NOT waste your time & money here! This restaurant is POORLY managed. After we were finally seated, we waited another 15 minutes before server came to table...I said... "Thought you forgot about us"....SHE said " You can leave if you want, we don't have to serve you." These were her EXACT words. VERY RUDE...if we had stayed & ordered I would have been afraid of what she might do to our food. Her attitude & tone were very threatening. Joke is on her...I am a GREAT tipper if the service is even OK. I have worked in the industry, you do not treat guests/tourists like this. A simple...I am sorry for your wait...means a lot. Fun themed restaurant with live music and good vibes, reasonably priced as well, we had the trout

Very nice restaurant and no wait compare to some other restaurants close by. The interior is rustic with casual wood picnic tables and wood table booths with a fun kitschy vibe. They also have outdoor patio seating. The alcohol menu featured a number of Utah beers and wines. Service was good, servers were very friendly and checked up on us a couple of times during our meal. The kids menu was a plus as it featured more options outside the typical grilled cheese sandwich and chicken tenders. We ordered the rib tips (get the Jack sauce) and the trout. Food came out hot and delicious. We ordered the snickerdoodle mug cake and huge! definitely big enough to share with 3-4 people. Loved that it was served with real vanilla bean ice cream. We enjoyed the live music that was playing and it made for a fun dinner experience (we sat towards the back of the restaurant and the music wasn't overly loud). We tried to go to this restaurant tonight, giving them the benefit of the doubt when a lot of reviews were negative. We were ignored when we walked in. Then, we were ready to order quickly and the waitress proceeded to take orders from people who "checked in" AFTER us. Everyone had their orders taken and we had not been spoken to. The waitress seemed surprised when I told her we were leaving. I understand being busy but you could at least take our drink orders to keep us happy while other orders are being taken. We arrived at 8:45 at the pioneer village to stay the night. The only restaurant that was open was this one on the property and we were starving after hiking at Zion in the heat all day we were seated right away and it took 15 minutes for someone to take our order. After which we waited another 10 for our drinks(sodas) nothing extra. Our food proceeded to come out 44-60 minutes later. We ordered hamburgers and mine was supposed to be a bacon cheeseburger but there was no bacon and the inside of the hamburger was raw and the outside was burnt. We did not eat it needless to say so after 1.5 hours we were still hungry. Also we ordered bread and oil for an appetizer and it came out with our burnt/raw burgers and was not cooked well at all.. all in all this place was horrible for food, service and prices. TOO SLOW! We went in expecting a good meal based on the recommendation from our hotel. Ordered a burger and chicken fingers. 30 minutes later we flagged down our waitress to ask when we might expect our food (she had not stopped by our table since taking our order). She told us "your ticket is next". 15 minutes later we went to find her (hadn't seen her since we flagged her down) and told her we were leaving. She said "your order is next". 45 minutes is TOO LONG to wait for a simple order. She reluctantly did not charge us for our sodas. After a day of walking and sightseeing I was HUNGRY! This restaurant was the perfect solution. We sat on the scenic outdoor patio and could hear the singer strumming his guitar and crooning some 70's pop hits. I nursed a Polygamist Porter- smooth and creamy with a hint of chocolate which I thought was a great accompaniment to my flatiron steak with all the yummy sides ( the Dutch Oven potatoes are yummy as is the coleslaw). My hubby had a Saddler steak but found some gristle in it so the $2 more for the flatiron is well spent! Our waitress, Jerusha, is an intelligent and beautiful young woman who we enjoyed conversing with. We particularly enjoyed learning about her families long ties to the area, including some that go back to Mormon push cart pioneers. Sturdy stuff! Our fellow diners were seemingly German and so the atmosphere was a pleasant mix of international and history laden. My son loved the trout we took back to him in the room. Terrible service! Took a long time to get anything. I ordered a steak 20 dollars and it was half medium rare and half rare. They forgot our appetizer then gave it to us after the meal. They overcharged for our check by $5.00. The worst thing was they charged us %18 tip. Showdowns was exactly the kind of experience we were looking for when we got to Tropic. Relaxed atmosphere with no fuss, good food and good drinks (I loved the local Castle Creek chardonnay, which I also tried in Moab). As you walk down to the barn, you see a fire pit out front and outdoor seating with a pleasant view. In fact, the way the restaurant is set up (its a barn and the front is open) you get a nice view even if you sit indoors (we did). As you walk in to the restaurant, you're greeted with cheerful staff, checkered table cloth covered picnic tables and live country music. It's a fun atmosphere with great touristy western kitch. I'm a big fan. To top it off, we made new friends who sat at our table. I should mention at least some of the desserts are homemade and awesome. Peanut butter chocolate mugcake. We chose this place after asking the worker at the gift shop at Bryce Lodge which of the options for dinner we were considering she would go to and she said neither of those, she would go here. Since we were staying in Tropic, we decided to try it. At first the vibe seemed great, it was busy and while we waited to be seated we were enjoying the guitarist that was singing. Waiting began to be the operative word. It took a while to be seated despite a few empty tables. We waited at the table for menus and then we waited 45 minutes for food even though all 4 of us just wanted a bowl of soup along with a simple appetizer. We got it after we flagged down the hostess and said we were still waiting. We had told the waitress we were ordering a light dinner because we wanted to order dessert. After we finished eating (she never checked back with us to see if our meal was okay, though the taco soup was quite good) we had to ask her to come over to our table to take our dessert order. We asked her if we would need to wait a long time for it, and she went into a long gripe basically saying we shouldn't complain and then said our desserts would take a while to arrive and were we ordering or not because she had other tables. We decided not (even though the mug desserts going to other tables looked great) and gave our tips (mostly) to the guitarist instead of the server. Maybe she was overworked and they need to get more servers or she was having a bad night. The hostess was very pleasant and helpful.
