Prices were good, service was phenomenal (I think the waitress name was shaniqua but pls forgive me if I'm wrong) she was the sweetest and so attentive! Food was good and filling. OK so I was kind of excited to go here. We walked in on a *super* busy Sunday morning. The endless raving reviews had me stoked to dig in. The service here would be nice if you were a local probably. We weren't, so I kind of felt as though we were on the back burner the entire time, which is whatever. Let me start with the coffee---not good. Meh. Not how I want to start my Sunday. My husband got like a big slam or something that had a pancake, home fries, bacon, sausage, and egg. His meal was absolutely better than mine. First time here and I really liked it. The biscuit with ham is amazing, the breakfast burritos is so big my wife could only eat half. The service was outstanding. Be careful if you have if you have kids though the chairs are very high, my eight year old fell (on her feet) twice. I think they have tables. Best breakfast/ brunch spot! We have been coming to Williamsburg for a while now, and can't believe we only just discovered this place. This is a small diner that's popular with the locals, but they are great at moving people through. I had the country fried steak with 3 eggs over medium, home fries, and a biscuit. This was divine!!! The country fried steak had a great buttermilk batter, was nicely fried, and had a rich gravy on top of it. I love eggs, and how a place cooks their eggs is a way that I measure how good of a restaurant they are. Why? Because eggs are simple, and if a place does them well, then it has been my experience that they do most other things well too. The 3 eggs I had over medium were perfectly done! The whites were cooked well: not burned, not runny, and the yolks WERE runny. This is exactly how I make my eggs for myself. Yum! The potatoes were done nicely and well-flavored. My biscuit was awesome! It was crunchy on the outside and super soft and doughy on the inside. Now this was a ton of food, good enough for a hungry truck driver who has several hours of a long drive ahead of him, and surprisingly, I ate it all! I think if I ate this every day, I would die of a heart attack, but at least I would die happy lol. Totally worth it. My husband had a ham & bacon omelet with hash browns and a biscuit. This dish is perfect for bacon lovers. My son had the kids' cheeseburger and fries. Both were also good. Our waitress was wonderful. I was hesitant to go here based on the wide range of reviews, but I ordered carry out anyway and it was delicious! My wife and I split the two entrees. I will explain why I give it four stars. Cuban omelette = 5 stars! - Very unique item and well executed! Savory and scrumtrulescent! Would highly recommend. - Hash browns were cooked the way I like them and it wasn't greasy. - Biscuit was soft and fluffy. Breakfast burrito = 3.5 stars - Good but not great. Met my expectations for a breakfast burrito, but nothing special about it. - Grits were very good. My son is super picky about grits but he ate all of it. The waitress was very sweet and kind. The only thing that disappointed me was that one chef had his nose out of his mask and the other chef had his mask completely off. We're living during a pandemic people! We went to Shorty's today for breakfast. The food was very good and our server was terrific! I must say, however, that I am amazed and disheartened by the number of servers who took their masks down when they were filling up drinks or talking to other servers and guests at the counter.Not all of them did that, but I saw five or six who did this routinely. I also saw a young man in his 30s who walked into the restaurant looking like he owned the place. He hugged at least one of the servers, walked around and helped himself to a drink, talked to some of the patrons, and DID NOT have a mask on his person! Really? There's a sign on both doors that says masks are required! The owner walked by the man several times and even talked to him. It didn't look like he referenced his lack of a mask at all. If you can't wear a mask, get curbside or eat outside under the tent. When are people going to learn? Aren't you tired of Covid? We came here on a Wednesday morning with a huge appetite for breakfast. What a perfect place! The place was hopping.. it was actually July 4th & they had an antique car show going on. We were still able to snatch up a high top table in the corner though. The place was loud. People were everywhere. Our server came & asked for our drink order. We also gave her our food order. I ordered the ham & cheese omelet, hubby ordered the eggs Benedict, & our little one ordered the pancake, egg & sausage link. Hubby loved his meal. The eggs were perfectly poached atop his English muffin and the hollandaise sauce was rich and creamy. Our little one said the pancakes were delicious. He ate it all. My omelet was delicious. I chose the shredded potatoes and they were perfectly fried. It came with a biscuit and jelly. Also delicious! Now I have one complaint about the omelet (not really a complaint, more of an observation)...the ham and cheese omelet was made differently than I'm used to. Authentic "classic diner" feel as soon as you walk in the door. White checkerboard decor and a TON of collectible "Hess" gas station trucks on display. It reminded me of years ago when I used to collect them. The staff was very hospitable and the food was excellent. The portions were perfect and everyone left there full. My daughter even wanted to pay with her play credit card, and the waitress took it, then brought back the customer copy for her to sign. It was the sweetest thing ever. Our server, Laura, left a lot to be desired. She acted put out when I called her to our table to ask for anything. She bordered on rude. She kept trying to walk away while we were ordering. This was especially frustrating when I ordered shakes because she didn't ask what size we wanted (medium) and we were brought jumbo shakes by another employee, who was also a little rude about it. The server never returned to run my card and I had to go find her. My burger was good, although not cooked as requested. The fires were really greasy and not very good. I've been here twice . The first time for morning breakfast with colleagues. I got the steak and eggs that came with a biscuit , and I was pleasantly surprised . The second time i went was yesterday September 28th. Upon walking in I was greeted and offered a seat in the back by the table tops. As I walked back I saw a roach crawling on the wall, I politely declined the seating area , and asked to be sat on the other side of the restaurant . I decided to order the steak and eggs again , and while eating ANOTHER roach crawled on my table . At this point I'm sure I'd never go back . Prices in online menu don't match actual prices charged. The burger I ordered on Friday wound up being $2 more than the menu states.....the girl at the window said the owners don't really care about the website - that she has told them a number of times to update - but it never happens. This was merely an annoyance - but then when we got back to our hotel and opened the food, I couldn't pick up the bottom bun of my burger because it had disintegrated with how much pickle juice from the "garnish" of pickles was sloshing about in the togo container......one of the cooks picked up about 20 sliced pickles and had just thrown them in. A good number of fries and all of the bottom hamburger bun were coated in pickle juice and it ruined just about the entire meal. The long and short of it is these guys don't really care a whole lot about quality.....lots of diners in Williamsburg and would probably recommend a different place. Won't be back. read more

This is a great place for locals and visitors alike, I say that as someone who has been both. My family has been coming here for about four years now. I first discovered Shorty's while visiting my daughter and her husband with my parents who were in from out of state. We were very impressed with the atmosphere and food. The theme is 50s rock and roll diner (Elvis greets you at the door). Walls are lined with vintage toys and there's a glass case with a collection of Hess toy trucks. On summer Fridays they stay open later and host a parking lot fill of classic cars. Over the years Shorty's has been a nice treat when we've been in town. Now we have a weekend place and eat at Shorty's most weekends. I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal. The Cuban omelet is delicious and unique. The steak and cheese is quite good. Their BBQ pork sandwich is on point. The fried catfish is incredible, very crispy and freshly locally sourced. The french fries are skinny, skin-on, my favorites. My husband has enjoyed biscuits for breakfast which are very southern, he also enjoyed the BBQ pork sandwich. He's ordered several a la carte items which were also good. The servers are all very pleasant and competent. Service is fast and accurate no matter the crowds. They close at 2 pm (except Friday's, at 8 pm) so don't tarry! read more
