Sunday brunch on a rainy overcast day started when a Bloody Mary topped with a slice of streaky bacon so crisp it could have been a floorboard arrived at my table. That's just how I like bacon, not sodden and dripping like the streets outside. I could see those streets quite well from my two-person high-top table just inside the broad windows, from which I could enjoy some people-watching as those not enjoying Bacon Bloody Marys scuttled around the Kennedy Town streets.
My friend arrived and we got to ordering: hard work given that the menu contained several things we wanted to try. My friend settled on the Eggs and Spinach on Toast and added sautéed mushrooms, while I opted to try the Scottish Baps. Neither of us had been to Shoreditch before (aside from the neighborhood in London) so we had no reference points and just let our taste buds and the menu descriptions guide us. We were pleasantly surprised by the prices too, my Baps running $68 and the Toast at $58 + $20 for the additional topping. No cha chaan teng prices but better than we expected for a British Pub-styled place in trendy as eff Kennedy Town. Then again, there were some pricier items on the brunch menu, so it could have gone that way if we'd been hungry for kedgeree or a Full English.
Our food was delish, I had a second Bloody Mary, and everything kind of slid by after that. I recommend coming here on a rainy day and watching the water fall over a drink. read more
