When the waitress took my flank steak order, I noticed she didn't ask me how I'd liked it cooked. I told her I'd like it rare and she responded they only did it medium. While the snail ragout was interesting and tasted good, it lacked presentation. The mains however were quite disappointing. The flank steak was rubbery and even after chewing for a while, I couldn't break apart any piece I painstakingly sawed off the main piece and basically swallowed them whole. Also, my companions' eggplants, while not tough like my steak, were unbelievably salty, such that my companions could not finish their eggplant dish at all. In addition, throughout this time, no one refilled my glass of water, and although I did enjoy the dessert, I noticed my napkin had been taken and I wasn't given a replacement, so I had nothing to wipe my mouth with while eating the dessert! Later on they tried to serve us another set of desserts by accident.

Let's be honest- steak is friggin expensive in Hong Kong, but you get a perfectly cooked, good sized piece of meat for a very reasonable price ($288 for a 14 oz ribeye). A carnivores delight! The atmosphere is classy and the service top-notch. The host even remembered me when I came in. Sides (especially the fries) are a great compliment to the steak. As to be expected, the bar serves a pretty standard range of beers, wines and spirits, which is no more or less than anywhere else in this area. However, it does come up trumps with the food. Look, it's not going to be the best gourmet cooking in the world, this is British pub food that we are talking about after all. It is mainly beige foods that have been baked or fried, but there is a very large selection of dishes that will make you pine for England's green and pleasant lands, including; proper steak and kidney pudding, fish and chips, bangers and mash, cottage pie, and a selection of true British delights like pasta and chicken parmigiana - ahem, err yeah! The meals a-la-carte will set you back about HKD150, but the portions are generous. For the best value, come here for lunch, where a main meal with soup or salad starter, will set you back around HKD70. Again, it's not the best you will have, but for a tasty quick bite, it is perfectly good. Be warned, with such a good value meal deal, the HK office workers come here in their droves, so you should book for lunch. My only gripe about this place is the serious lack of English speaking staff. Try asking for a lager shandy, and the spotty 12 year old kid will look at you blankly as though you have just ask for the secret to The Masons. Try and get the nice Filipino manageress to serve you.
