They are known for the earl grey martini, which definitely did not disappoint; the alcohol taste is there but not overwhelming or bitter. Before sliding doors were a thing throughout HK, Nocturne had their sliding door entrance game down big time. The door opens up to a somber palace of whiskydom, complete with a stone slate bar and the kind of setting that feels distinctly Japanese with a pseudo speakeasy feel. The bartenders are local guys usually, but they're greeting incoming patrons in Japanese as if Soho were suddenly Shibuya. Through the years it's been glasses of Yamazaki left and right, while I've dabbled with a bit of Hakushu and Hibiki. The bartenders do it just right and their recommendations are on point. I will sample everything they give but be careful -- like any good whisky bar, the drinks add up. After a series of drinks, it's easy to blow anywhere from $800-1200HKD, which is all the more reason to sip slowly and enjoy every taste. They have a wine selection, but to be honest, I've never bothered. That might be a better option for the slightly noisier floor upstairs, but all of my experiences have been at the bar interacting with the bartenders. The place is rarely popping with people; I imagine the price point may play a big factor in this or perhaps Nocturne just hasn't become a household name just yet. The art of the drink, the age of the whisky, and the presence of good company have never led me astray. Nocturne is a special place in HK but certainly not original. Any serious whiskyhead should consider a visit. They accept credit cards and there is a minimum 200HKD spend per person.

However if you are Samsung illiterate like myself, you can always ask the kind people at the bar. The Japanese lady had recommended some different whiskeys that we have never had and it was delicious. On Monday-Thursday they also offer a Japanese and Taiwanese whisky tasting at an affordable price. Thats right- KAVALAN TASTING! Go Taiwan! Mini Bread Plate - Yummy Bone Marrow Poppers - $118 for 3 Ikea meatball sized poppers. They had a strong musky smell and the pastry shell wasn't fresh. Seared Cod - $278. Small portioned, super overcooked cod. Clam Linguini - $198. Portion size perfect for smaller eaters however, clams were filled with sand. Every single bite was 'crunchy'. Bone Marrow Mash - $88. A lovely potato mash but no bone marrow taste to be found. I asked for a pretty cocktail since speakeasies are awesome with the way their drinks are presented. It really boils down to which identity one wants to align with: Dragon-I the restaurant or Dragon-I the LKF club. Regarding the former, Dragon-I features an interesting mix of Asian fusion dishes that would make it one of the more higher end choices in Central. Many flock here for their lunch deal, which is an all you can eat affair of nearly 30 Dim Sum dishes. The quality is rather decent, if not pretty good. Their spread feels more western than it does a traditional take on the cuisine, but at $228HKD a person, one could certainly do some damage by playing high afternoon glutton. Then there is the other side, the considerably darker (and louder) one in Dragon-I the nightclub. There are countless tales of douchebaggery and bouncer attitude but the same story could be told at virtually any of the major clubs both past and present. The music varies from eye rolling house music to occasional clusters of quality club hip hop music. Some visiting DJs will put on quite the show, but the regular house DJs are nothing to get amped about. The setup is really advantageous for bottle service folks, which is the only way I've really been acquainted here. Just because some drunkards and I have gone that route doesn't mean our experience has been completely ideal: the cocktail waitresses aren't serving us and the rest of the staff (especially Summer!) have a bit of an attitude at times. I wish they would police the smokers and keep the outsiders from stumbling into table service areas. Whether it's food or nightlife, Dragon-I serves to be an interesting option for all who find themselves along the madness of Wyndham. The outcome is extremely predictable, to which even tossing around a good bit of $$$ doesn't really affect much. I'm indifferent about this place, but I am never opposed to going either. Pretension is a turn off, but like anything in this realm, service is everything.
