I stayed here during the last shoulder season, and this is by far one of my favorite places to stay. It's got good service, good food, and fits my eclectic and funky taste. And it's got location, location, location! It sits right on the Bar Harbor's "shorepath" that runs the length of Bar Harbor's coast along Frenchman's Bay and has very easy access to downtown Ba' Ha'ba' (as the locals say) by walking. It's also semi-secluded so you would NEVER know you were a hop, skip and a jump from all the festivities (day or night). It's the best of both worlds. If you aren't up for Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, or the rest of Mt. Desert Island's charms, then you can relax at the B&B. There is a net for badminton, a croquet set, a piano, boardgames, and (my favorite!) tons and tons of books (bibliophile that I am!) . Roberta, the innkeeper and owner, raised her five children in this six bedroom house during the 70s and early 80s, they've since all grown up and left, but she remained with her lawyer husband and then eventually opened the place up as a bed and breakfast. She's also travelled far and wide and has collected many things through out the house. (Most interesting to me is the stuff she's brought back from Israel.) She's a good cook and serves breakfast sit-down style at 7 or 8 am with coffee service beforehand if you want it. (I loved this particular aspect as most B&Bs don't do this and it gives me a opportunity to check out what other people have planned for the day.) I loved the homemade cereal and the eggs were complimented all around. She also serves an aperitif in the afternoon with wine and hor d'oeurves. Heaven! The B&B is seasonal (summer and fall) as Roberta stays with one of her kids in Israel for the winter. And the prices are reasonable (for Bar Harbor) for this piece of Elysium (we paid $270/night for the three bedroom suite in the attic-talk about awesome water views). An all around good deal! It's so good, I'm planning to go back this summer. read more

We have had a great week at Shorepath Cottage. What a location! Its back porch has a nice view down a long lawn to the water, with boats occasionally going past, and it's just a few blocks from the heart of Bar Harbor. "Cottage" is a misnomer, by the way. This is a large, well kept older home, clean, light and bright inside, with white walls, diamond-paned windows in the topmost hall, generous front and side porches, and a lawn that runs down past sunflowers and a vegetable garden to the shore path along the water. This is innkeeper Roberta's last summer; she told us her daughter will be taking over. We had good experiences with both during our stay. Roberta made the price of two rooms affordable for our family. Lisabeth helped provide everything we needed. And that was a lot! We borrowed tumblers, a wine glass, first aid tape and bandages. Our family was happy with the breakfasts. Delicious homemade muesli, fruit salad, and blueberry pound cake were available every day. The innkeepers also made a soufflé one day, blueberry pancakes another, and so on. They offered to make eggs as well, but we were fine with what was already out. Tea and coffee were available at all hours. By the way, I have a bit of a dust allergy. Despite the runners and rugs here and there, my allergy did not act up. This means the carpets must be kept well vacuumed or beaten, and the upholstery as well. This was a fabulous difference from most B&Bs. If we come back to Bar Harbor, this is where we'll stay. Five stars. By the way, good things to do with tweens include: - Reel Pizza. Movie house with sofas and tables where you can order pizza, soda and beer to have while you watch current movies. - Visitors Center right next to the village green. Maps; get your bearings. - Acadia bike shop. Rent bikes. Take them over to the village green and take the BikeExpress bus. They'll load your bikes onto trailer that's attached to the bus. This bus takes you to Eagle Lake where you can bike the carriage trails. Great loop around that lake; scenic and a good ride. Bus goes every half hour or so; pickup from same spot takes you back to town. - Drive to Otter Cliff (first bus stop after Sand Beach). Park in lot. Cross the street towards water. Walk along the path. It keeps going for ages - lovely seaside walk above the cliffs. read more

From the website Shore Path Cottage does seem wonderfully inviting. I made reservations for the Melinda Room, which promised a private bath with a claw foot tub. It sounded very nice, especially the "gourmet breakfast" which is part of what makes staying at a Bed and Breakfast so wonderful. On arriving we were greeted by one of the innkeepers who took us inside the Cottage. The first thing I noticed was that the lights in the foyer were turned off. She had to turn the lights on at our arrival and I did find it odd that she would have the lights off even though clearly other guests were staying as well. We were taken upstairs to our room, which was located near the front of the building . Much to my displeasure, the "private claw foot tub" was not inside our room. Despite the "private" claim, we had to leave our room to use the bathroom or shower, and no bathrobes were provided. This meant both I and my girlfriend had to practically get dressed before leaving the comfort of our rooms to reach the facilities. The first morning at out stay was also met with some disappointment. Breakfast resembled very closely a continental breakfast you could get at any hotel. Yogurt with granola, various english muffins and bagels, french toast kept over warming plate, jam and butter, coffee and juice, as well as a few sweet cakes. One of the guests also seemed put off by this lackluster breakfast of nothing but carbs and made the request for something like eggs. The Innkeepers mother, who was very kind, materialized and made the requesting guest, and her husband, a hurriedly made omelette. Later, the same guest that had requested the omelette, was asked by the Innkeepers mother if they could switch rooms from the first floor to a different room on the upper floor. Apparently another guest, one who often stayed at this B&B, was bringing a cat. Nowhere on the website did it say animals were allowed, and according to the innkeeper, there was another guest on the first floor that was deathly allergic to cats, so, the unfortunate couple was being asked to change rooms. Both of them being elderly, they were very upset and did not want to have to move their luggage up the stairs. The innkeepers mother was persistent and told the couple that she would help them move their luggage upstairs. Both the husband and wife did finally agree to repack their things and move, but it was clear they weren't happy. The second day provided more of the same carb laden breakfast but with the addition of pancakes and an egg frittata, still nothing close to some of the better breakfasts from other places I have stayed, but slightly better than the day before. For some reason the shower's hot water was cold as if the place had run out of hot water that day. After sightseeing Bar Harbor, we came back to the Cottage for some refreshments. I was happy to see that there was still a piece of marble pound cake left out from breakfast, but when I went to grab a piece, and perhaps enjoy a cup of tea, I was told by the innkeeper, almost scolded really, for trying to eat it. She said that NORMALLY she doesn't put out snacks until 3-6pm and that otherwise she'd be baking cakes all day. She did let me have a piece of cake however but left me feeling nearly guilty for even being excited that it had been there. Overall I will not be stay again. I found the innkeeper to be rude, and neurotic. The Innkeepers mother was certainly very kind and a wonderful lady. The website needs to clarify that the Melinda room does NOT actually have a private bathroom IN the room. Breakfast needs improvement, I could have had something similar at a Motel 6 as I had on my stay at the Shore Path Cottage. read more

This place is in shambles. The "private" bathroom is off the hall and had no lock. Spiders were plentiful. There was an unbearable stench in our room which the owner refused to acknowledge. We passed on the breakfast and cut our scheduled 4 night stay short after 1 night. It was our 34th wedding anniversary. Shame on those who write this place up as idyllic. I stayed two nights in May 2015. The location here is perfect. You are a short stroll to the shops, bars, and restaurants. Yet, the house is at the end of a very quiet street. Standing on the lawn, facing the ocean, you feel you are somewhere secluded, peaceful, private. You would have no idea that 5 minutes on foot and you are in the thick of Bar Harbor. The shore path is a great, mellow hike, and it is accessible from the back yard. We had a room on the first floor with an attached private bathroom. Lovely room- the whole house has a lot of character. Things you just don't see in a new home. The B&B was also very quiet at night and we slept great. The hosts put out wine in the evening and coffee in the morning, which we partook in and appreciated. We did not stay for breakfast either morning, simply due to the fact we had a whole list of things we wanted to accomplish. The hosts truly love the area, and it being my first time in Bar Harbor, were very helpful. They had a lot of insight on where to go, what to do, and even lent us hiking maps. Finally, the hosts were just lovely people. The B&B has family photography on the walls and truly feels like a home. We will visit again for sure! read more

Stayed here for four nights and absolutely loved it. The entire staff was awesome and I would definitely stay here again . Roberta and Lisabeth were such wonderful people and I am so happy that my gf and I decided to stay here. Very close proximity to Acadia and to all the shops and food places. The cottage is run by a extremely kind lady, perfect location with a beautiful view of the sea, perfect atmosphere at breakfast, cozy rooms. Slightly overpriced, but nevertheless enjoyed our stay. read more
