Suuuuch a cute place! It was our first experience at a bed and breakfast (we usually travel internationally at all inclusive resorts) but we were so impressed. The place was very charming and the staff were so sweet. The breakfast was the best breakfast we've had anywhere before- it was our favorite part of every day (which is saying something in bar harbor). We also had to leave for home early in the morning on our last day and they prepped us breakfast sandwiches, fruit, and bars to go. Tea time was also an adorable touch in the afternoon- we would go sit in there and play cards. So relaxing and homey. We already want to go back! read more

We had an absolutely incredible stay at the Hearthside Inn! The staff was welcoming and friendly, room and common areas were extremely clean, and the food was incredible! We left before breakfast on check out day and they kindly made us breakfast sandwiches to go for the road! The location is perfect-- walking distance to everything and a very short drive to Acadia! Wow!!! My husband and I were camping in Acadia but our reservations got messed up the last night. We frantically searched for somewhere to stay and got lucky to get a room here. Our stay was awesome. We were greeted upon arrival and given a mini tour of the home. Our room had a bathroom attached. The bed was so comfortable, the AC & heating worked great, huge closet, and a high-pressured shower. They had the most delicious orange cake and M&M cookies available throughout the evening with tea at night. The next morning we had breakfast outside. They had scones for starters. My husband got the mushroom/vegetable omelette breakfast (which he enjoyed) and I got some of the best chocolate chip pancakes ever. I am so glad we got a room here! Next time we are in Acadia we will definitely be staying at Hearthside Inn. read more

This is about a year overdue, sorry. We stayed here for our honeymoon 25 years ago, and came back. It was almost the same. Its under new ownership since then naturally. They have done some nice updates to the bathrooms, and the beds are very comfortable. We had a great time! Our host were very helpful and hospitable. They treated us special since we were celebrating our milestone with them. Thanks. This is the only B&B I would ever stay in on Mt. Desert, and we can't wait to come back. What a fantastic way to spend your vacation!!! We had never stayed in a B & B before, so we were so excited to try it out for our vacation to Bar Harbor. We arrived late afternoon on Saturday and were happily greeted by Brian at the front door. He showed us around and explained some of the amenities and we went on our way for the evening. He was able to provide us with some suggestions for the night as well. The next morning, we came downstairs for breakfast and were greeted and sat outside on the porch. We had eggs Benedict, coffee, and a homemade muffin. They have blueberry juice and tea as well! We were so impressed with breakfast. We went on our way to hike and Brian helped us figure out the bus system as well. The bedroom we stayed in was so cute! The pillows and bed were so comfy!! We slept like rocks for both nights. We also had a private bathroom which was a plus. Overall, great experience with great hosts. Would definitely recommend to anyone traveling to the area! read more

Cute bed and breakfast located off a side street and close to the attraction of Bar Harbor. We didn't actually make it down in time for breakfast either if the two days we stayed since we were still on west coast time but we did get to try the muffins and they were great. This is a 3 story property and we were on the third story. We had the cute wanted room with the monkeys. The wall is slanted so the Roberson on the right side of the bed needs to watch their head when they get up. I should also mention that I am keen to a pillow top mattress and this bed was extra super duty firm. My back was not so happy. The bathroom was super cute. Shower was tiny!! We went during a holiday weekend so prices were way above what I thought they should be at $400/night. If you can stay here for like $200 a night that would be a better price point. Also if you e driven a vehicle, likeliness you'll get a spot is slim and you'll have to park down the street at a different hotel. You also won't be able to check in early anytime before 3pm so make note of that. But it was charming. read more

I can't imagine a better way to stay at a Bed and Breakfast than the Hearthside Inn! It's located right in the heart of Bar Harbor which makes it more than convenient to get to shops, restaurants, bars, and Acadia National Park. The owners are an adorable older couple that are both originally from Maine. Have any questions about Bar Habor--they'll have an answer for you! The place is beautifully decorated and super cozy/comfortable. Throughout the day you have access to tea, coffee, and afternoon treats. You must try to the granola. It's homemade and blows away anything store bought. The couple running the inn doesn't miss any details. The best touch is how personal they are. Upon entering, there was an adorable sign welcoming us by name! Try and find that at a hotel! Breakfast is amazing!!!! We woke up, sat on the porch while basking in the morning sun, and were waited on as if we were at a restaurant. Breakfast sandwiches, home fries, fruit parfaits, and blueberry juice were on the menu that day. If you ever are visiting Bar Harbor, this is the place to stay. This place is fantastic. Juliana, the innkeeper, was so pleasant and helpful. The breakfasts were delicious Roxanne the chef made lovely fruit breads and snacks for the afternoon. Carissa the server was incredibly friendly, Britney and Catherine were so nice as well. Very accommodating and helpful. We stayed on second floor in a corner king room. It was sunny and very nice. This place is just lovely! Julianna and Olivia were outstanding hostesses. We could not have asked for better food (seriously, breakfast cooked fresh daily by their amazing chef) and hospitality. They serve "tea time" daily from 4 to 8 with delicious dessert bites and fresh lemonade. We loved having coffee readily available each morning and coming home to the cozy fire in the lobby area each evening. The outdoor fire pit was an added bonus. Perfect location - a quick walk to Main Street and all of the restaurants, pubs and shops in Bar Harbor; the Ocean Trail is only moments away; Acadia National Park is a short drive (or bus/trolley ride) away. The Inn is located on a quiet little street, just far enough away from the tourist traffic so that your stay will be peaceful. Your hosts, Brian and Catherine are absolutely perfect - warm and welcoming, fabulous to chat with, and add to that Brian's skills in the kitchen - you are in for a treat!! Eggs benedict, homemade waffles, blueberry bread pudding, freshly baked muffins, fruit smoothies - plan on skipping lunch after every three course gourmet breakfast!! When you do get hungry again, talk to your innkeepers - they have excellent recommendations for restaurants both in town and with more local flavour! We stayed for three nights in the Glass Menagerie room - a sunny, cozy room with a private balcony. Comfortable bed, with loads of soft pillows. I also MUST make mention - the room and bathroom (not en suite, but private) were immaculate!! The cleanest bathroom I have EVER experienced at a B&B....the entire inn would pass a white glove test with flying colours!! After the initial "wow" wears off at most inns, you begin to notice the dust on the baseboards, the cobwebs in the corners, the cracks in the ceilings, &c - NOT HERE!!!! Whatever they pay their housekeeper, they should double it, she is worth every penny, hehe!! Impressive!! A wonderful long weekend. Can I give this six stars? My boyfriend and I spent four nights here just this week and were over the moon about the level of hospitality and kindness we were shown while we stayed at The Hearthside Inn. Breakfast was prepared from scratch every morning and served to us by the inn keepers, Rick and Joyce. They asked us about our upcoming adventures every morning, made local recommendations, and asked us how it all went when we came home for the night. They hugged us goodbye when we left! I could tear up thinking about it. Coming from an East Coast city, where this kind of thing is virtually non-existent, I just can't say enough how thankful I was for the kindness and comfort given to us during our short stay. We had the best time at Hearthside!!! We went for our 1st wedding anniversary and this B&B exceeded our expectations. Brian and the rest of the staff are incredibly warm, friendly, and helpful ...and AMAZING cooks! Their fresh, warm muffins, pastries, and cookies were top notch and they went above and beyond with breakfast! The rooms were clean and the whole place felt "COVID safe" with masks and hand sanitizer all around and they've minimized commonly touched items which made us feel much more comfortable. Such a sweet place to stay and the best location right downtown, we walked to everything! Very highly recommend staying at this B&B and we can't wait to come back. Staying at the Hearthside Inn was one of the best decisions my husband and I could have made for our trip to Bar Harbor. The innkeepers and other staff are so friendly and hospitable; knowing we were in Bar Harbor for our honeymoon, they went the extra mile to make it special. This bed and breakfast is the definition of the word "cozy," from homemade three-course breakfasts every morning in the dining room, to cookies and tea in the afternoons, to roaring fires and warm, comfortable linens in the evening. Joyce and Brian were always on hand to provide great advice for getting around the island, or what to do. They also lend out items for their borders to use, such as picnic baskets, umbrellas, walking sticks, and beach towels. With advance notice, they'll even make you a bag lunch for exploring the park! The location is also perfect for exploring Bar Harbor. It is located in the center of town, but on a quiet, one-way side street, so we had the benefit of being a 5 minute walking distance from all of the shops, restaurants, pier, shore path, and Village Green without hearing any road noise. On our next visit, my husband and I will most definitely be booking here, again. read more

This is an exceptional place. I don't have much experience with B&Bs, but I feel like all B&Bs should be like this. When you arrive, you are greeted by the owners, Susan and Barry. They are both super nice and have a wicked sense of humor. The rooms were nice and the sense of privacy was appreciated. The food in the morning was delicious, and the help we received from the owners when planning our days in Bar Harbor was really helpful. For $9, you can order a sack lunch from Susan and Barry, which I recommend. It's great if you want to go hiking at Acadia and don't want to mess with food. I loved the sense of community we felt while at this B&B. It was the right amount of socializing, in that you don't feel overwhelmed by strangers, but yet you know you're not in some boring, mundane hotel chain. Another big plus: round-the-clock coffee and tea in the dining room. To me, free and tasty coffee always makes for a good stay! read more

The BEST B&B by far!! Charming cottage beautifully decorated. The bedroom roomy but feels cozy with snowy white bed spreads and towels. The spotless bathroom looks new and retro at the same time. The best feature of this property are the owners. My friend and I stayed at this wonderful and heartwarming B&B in Bar Harbor for three nights. We went to Bar Harbor to see Acadia National Park. Brian and Catherine made our stay in town a wonderful experience. They gave us recommendations and guides where to go around the area. This centrally located B&B in Bar Harbor is under new ownership and in 2015 was their first season as the innkeeper and what I will tell you is that their hospitality is OVER THE TOP. They just don't meet expectations but take it one step further! We had numerous instants where they went one step beyond: * We were running a few minutes late to make a boat tour. They actually called for us and had the boat held! * We were having a discussion on how girts are very popular in the south versus cream of wheat. The innkeepers surprised me with girts for breakfast with a twist. You have to ask them for girts Maine style. * One morning we actually, had Mormisa's waiting at breakfast for us; "just because". If it is conversation you want then you will be in heaven. Sit down an have a beer or two with the innkeepers. They are great conversationalist. As for the rooms, they have NO TVS. However, unplugging from the boob tube was great. Very relaxing. Our room was very spacious with a private bath. Next time in Bar Harbor, we will be back! read more

We've stayed here twice and plan to stay again anytime we are in Bar Harbor. Both times we had the Romeo and Juliet Room. Lots of nice touches like an assortment of classical music CD's in the room, bath gel for the whirlpool bathtub, chocolates. The hosts are very kind and acommodating. The breakfast is alwasy good. You have the choice of sitting at a big table for a family style meal or sitting on the porch if you enjoy the solitude. The inn has a great location within easy walking distance of many restaurants and shops. Susan and Barry also provide a nice guide of things to do, restaurant recommendations. Tea & cookies at 4pm was one of my favorite parts-- homemade warm gooey chocolate chip cookies were the perfect post-kayaking/climbing snack, and the breakfasts were also delicious. The hosts knew a lot about the area and were able to recommend hikes, restaurants and other activities in the area. The room was clean and had a working fireplace which was a lot of fun for us. My wife and I stayed in the Hearthside Inn for a short vacation to Bar Harbor in late June. Susan and Barry are the heart of this place. Wonderful, wonderful people. Great food. The rooms are great. We stayed in the Winston Churchill room, which comes with a very nice and spacious private bath and a private balcony. It was so nice we kept the windows up all day and night. My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hearthside Inn for Labor Day Weekend, 2014. This place was absolutely fantastic!!! I say that with zero hesitation. Everything you want in a B&B. We will definitely stay there again when we go back. Location: 1 block outside of the main eating/shopping area. Perfect location. Always had parking in the driveway and on the street. Really quiet/no loud neighbors. The actual Inn: PERFECT. The facility was clean, cozy and welcoming. We stayed in the Duke of Wellington which I think is one of their smaller rooms, and it was the perfect size. A little sitting area, bathroom and bed are all you need when you are going to be outside the whole time. Every room was different and beautiful. I love the way that they decorated the whole home! I believe it was a house that was 100 years old, and I would have never guessed. Nothing falling apart, all rooms had AC and fans if needed. - they also had a ton of books/maps/information about the area to read and borrow if you hadn't planned or wanted to be inspired by something new. - computer with internet if you need to borrow it. Wifi for all guests. The Owners: Incredibly nice and helpful. They are so friendly that I feel like I"ve known them for years. We loved how Barry gave us a map/mini suggestion session when we checked in so we were immediately oriented to the town and Acadia. He had a ton of suggestions throughout the stay and I never felt uncomfortable asking "Hey, which trail do you suggest?" Actual Breakfast! The breakfast was amazing, and definitely fueled us for the day. We stayed 3 nights and had french toast, omelets and pancakes, respectively, for our three days. (Sitting area at big dining table or outside if you want something private for you and your partner). The best B&B experience I could have asked for! read more

Fantastic B&B. My spouse and I stayed there this past weekend (Emily Dickinson room) and had a delightful time in Bar Harbor. Susan & Barry were a delight and their breakfasts were exceptional. We were treated to a delicious spread in the A.M., including Eggs Benedict. The Hollandaise sauce was divine and better than many of the restaurant versions I've tried in the past (not too thickened with roux, nor clumpy - just right). They had fresh juices and coffees/teas/hot chocolate out as well. The rooms were quite soundproof and the other guests were great as well. There is a small fridge for guests to use during their stay on the ground floor (communal), which was appreciated. It's location is right near Main Street, so you can walk about 5 minutes and be in the thick of things - which in Bar Harbor unfortunately does not say too much. I mostly enjoyed the hikes in the park and it was a short drive to get to the trails. Susan & Barry were not too intrusive, which I appreciated, and had helpful suggestions when engaged. They had cute touches in each room, including a book of poems in the Emily Dickinson room, as well as our names on a frame when we first arrived welcoming us. My wife and I like to go the B&B route when we travel without our kids. We've been to 10-15 places all over the world and found the Hearthside B&B to be one of the most well rounded places we've had the fortune to stay at. The home is well kept and well appointed and centrally located. We stayed in the Emily Dickinson room which was spacious, had a nice large, comfortable bed and private bath. However the room is to the front of the house so you occasionally got some road noise but fortunately High street is not a Main Street. The breakfasts were tasty and the inn keepers friendly and helpful throughout the duration of our stay. A wonderful place to call home for the three nights we stayed in Bar Harbor. read more

My daughter and I went to Bar Harbor for the day and we were booking the day of and wouldn't be arriving until midnight and they made arrangements for the late arrival. We booked one of their smaller rooms and after I booked they called me back and upgraded us to a room on the second floor to make it easier for us when we arrived. They booked us in the Emily Dickinson room. The room with bathroom was excellent and very large and exceptionally clean! The next morning for breakfast they said we can either have a seat outside at a table for 2 or eat at the big table inside. When we sat down we were served smoothies (excellent) and then the main course of any style eggs with bacon and toast and bread pudding that was to die for! This was absolutely the best Bed & Breakfast I have stayed in. When talking with Catherine & Brian after breakfast, I found out they had just taken over the B&B in I believe March or May (can't remember)! You would think they have been doing this for years. When you read the reviews of this amazing b&b and you see all the positive comments...times it by 10. First, Catherine and Brian are the perfect hosts. They are friendly, cordial, warm, attentive, knowledgeable about Bar Harbor and beyond. Want a restaurant...they can recommend many...want a hiking trail....Brian's done them all, want to know how to get from point A to point B, they can tell you. I told Catherine it was my wife's birthday during our stay and asked if she could arrange to have flowers delivered. She did and made dinner reservations. Even tho the Inn is just beautiful, comfortable, wonderfully located, (check out the white separation lines in the parking area), Catherine and Brian are the reasons to stay at Hearthside. You can't help having an instant fondness for them. They thought of all the conveniences, the best of the best B&B decorating. The breakfasts are the best reason to start your day. It's a tastebud delight. We stayed 4 nights which was the right amount of time to see Bar Harbor and get in some good hiking. Don't miss the Bar Habor island walk. We flew in/out of Portland which is a 3 hour easy drive. You can fly to Bangor which is only about an hour from Bar Harbor but we wanted to stay in Portland for a night. We are glad we did. If we go back to Bar Harbor we will just call Catherine or Brian for a room. read more

this place was great! the house is gorgeous, the rooms well taken care of and the innkeepers barry and susan were lovely, entertaining, informative and sociable. we were in bar harbor the night before staying somewhere else and hoped we could bring our things over to the hearthside early before embarking on our big day biking acadia. susan was very accommodating and let us bring our things over and even park there for the day. our room wasn't ready yet so we left our bags in a corner of the living room. when we returned they had been taken up to our room which was extra nice since my bag as heavy! breakfast was delicious and i liked the fact that they had alternate items such as cereal and granola, bagels etc. in case you didn't like the day's entree. we didn't have to worry about that -- delicious blueberry pancakes preceeded by a warm bowl of peach crisp. the option of eating outside was also wonderful. we would definitely return. read more

Fantastic! The room we were in "Queen Victoria" had it's own bathroom. Bed was big and comfortable. Susan was a wonderful, friendly, and helpful host. It was more of a family feel. This was our first visit to Bar Harbor and Brian and Catherine made it an incredible experience.
