We loved our stay at the Inn at Bay Ledge!!! Dax and Sarah were amazing and made sure we had everything that we needed so that our stay would be all that we wanted. They are amazing cooks as well!! Breakfast each day was different and delicious! Let me just say that we did not come for the afternoon cookies until our last day and after tasting the homemade cookies, we were really sad we had not come each day for the cookie treats. We traveled here for our 30th anniversary and chose to stay in the Summer Cottage on the property. It was spotless and looked exactly as the pictures on their website. The bed was the most comfortable of any we have slept in on our many adventures through the years. We were greeted by Willow with a welcome gift. Then taken to our cottage across the street (Bear Cottage). The room was clean and spacious. There were fresh baked cookies in the dining area for an afternoon snack. Willow was able to give us some great suggestions for dinner. The home cooked breakfasts were amazing. The views from the backyard and the beach were absolutely perfect. The staff here is the most friendly I've ever met, dogs included! Added bonus was that they have a Tesla charger on site! Our room had great views & very comfy bed. We stay in the main lodge on the 1st floor. Anything we needed, they supplied. Lots of places to hang out outside as well with a great view. We saw a bald eagle on our stay. It's very close to Acadia National Park which we visited for 2 days. They gave us great restaurant recommendations. People in Maine are so friendly. Wow. I'm so glad that we chose this BEAUTIFUL inn for our 3 generation getaway from Northern Illinois. Dax and Sarah were both AWESOME! Service was second to none...from book suggestions, to lending us binoculars for whale watching, to the SCRUMPTIOUS afternoon cookies (the lemon ricotta is DIVINE)...everything was always just right. The beds are super comfy and the linens were perfect for a deep sleep. The bath towels were XXXL and so soft! All in all, a beautiful stay with a beautiful couple and their bernoodle Stanley. Yogurt parfait, scrambled eggs with greens and homemade cinnamon buns for our first morning. Yogurt parfait, omelettes and waffles the next morning. So delicious. Inn at Bay Ledge is the most magical place. We had the absolute best stay hosted by Sarah and Dax. The breakfast each morning was divine with the utmost attention to detail from Dax. The perfect breakfast helped us start each day off on the right foot, fueled for traveling adventures. We never once missed dining out at a restaurant for breakfast because it was better than anything we have found in our travels. Our room was incredibly cozy and inviting with the prettiest decor and a very comfy bed. Some of the extra touches that made our stay amazing was the perfect location of the Inn as well as the gorgeous property the Inn is located on. The pebble beach was a true gem unlike anything we saw during our time in Maine. The beauty of pebble beach easily rivaled the most amazing sights we were able to take in during our many visits to Acadia. Jack and Jeanie were fantastic hosts from start to finish! We had a great stay at their Inn. It is a lovely home with a breathtaking view. We were lucky enough to stay in the best room in the main property (#7) with a view of the ocean from our four poster king bed. The tub has a jacuzzi as well and they have a pool on the property. There is also beach front access. It's a rocky beach with a steep climb down but it's BREATHTAKING. There aren't many places where you can find waterfront access like this. We saw seals and even a jellyfish up close and personal (DON'T TOUCH THEM THOUGH! hah). Jeanie made breakfast every morning and her dog Pearl is so adorable. Breakfast was fantastic. We enjoyed Belgian waffles, fresh fruit, muffins, and quiche - always a different breakfast each morning. The bed was heavenly and I miss it now. Currently researching how I can get a pillow top for my mattress that is just like the one in this room! The Inn is off the beaten path and about 15 min from downtown but it's so peaceful and relaxing, it's well worth it. You're also closer to Acadia than downtown. There are also no TV's in the rooms which is AMAZING! So refreshing. We enjoyed champagne from our deck as well. Thank you again for a beautiful, relaxing stay! read more

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in room 7 and wish we could have stayed longer. The breakfast was delicious, the views of sunrise and sunset over the water and through the caves were incredible. The deck from our second floor room was spacious with tables and chairs and had a great view of the water. Our room was very clean. There was outdoor and indoor seating for breakfast. This inn is nothing short of magical!!! When I think of bed and breakfasts, I think of really dated decor, but the details of this inn are very charming! We got to the inn very late at night, but I walked around and was pleasantly surprised by all the decorations inside our room and around the place. In the morning we were met with more surprises. The view of Frenchman Bay while having your breakfast is just stunning. Speaking of breakfast, every day was something different and delicious prepared by the inn keepers. Also, their adorable dog is very friendly =]. You can walk down the ledge and have a beautiful view of the bay up close. We stayed at the garden room which is the least expensive and probably the smallest, but it was a decent size, and supposedly president bush's daughter and her fiancé stayed in the same room. The inn is a bit far from the Bar Harbor town center, but I love the tranquility of it, and don't mind having to drive in to the town. I have nothing but praises for this amazing inn, and I really want to bring my parents here so they can experience it too =]. read more

My daughter and I travelled from Denmark for a New Englznd roadtrip and we had two days at The Inn at Bay Ledge and it was beyond our expectations. Such a wonderful scenic place, where one can really enjoy "getting down" and just take in the breathtaking beautiful surroundings. For what you pay to stay here it is completely worth it. My wife and I stayed for two nights and wish it was longer. Jack and Jeani are fantastic hosts. Jeani is always pleasant and smiling and Jacj always has a handful of good stories to tell. They let us come early and leave late without any fuss either - thanks for that! Our room was in Deer Cottage which was across the street and wonderfully secluded. It was clean and beyond cozy. We had the most comfortable bed ever (yes, ever). You are 10 minutes from downtown but its an easy commute. The only issue we had (because we love our sleep) was that breakfast was fairly early from 8-9. If it lasted until 10 that would've been perfect but in the grand scheme of things is truly insignificant. Overall, a wonderful wonderful experience. Stay here. You won't be disappointed. read more

This is one of the finest inns I have stayed at. I would highly recommend staying in Bear Cottage. It is well appointed with a huge rustic bed and plenty of space. The Inn is located some distance from downtown Bar Harbor and is very quiet. The one downside to the Inn was the breakfast was too fancy for my taste. This is one of the best BnB I have stayed in. Jean and Jack are gr8 hosts. We loved the yummy breakfasts prepared by Jean each morning and served with utmost care in a family type setting along with other guests. They're very different than conventional breakfast offerings at other places. The freshly baked warm cookies in the afternoon are quite a treat for your taste bud. If you like a romantic gateway in a serene and quite coast, you want to check this place. The huge sauna is a great add after a full day of hiking in the Acadia ntl park trails. Jack and jean have decorated the interiors with a fine taste and Mady who supervises in the afternoon is as hospitable and helpful as the hosts. The inn itself is located on a grassy hill over the water with adirondack chairs and a hammock to relax. Stairs go down to a private rocky beach with interesting caves. The breakfasts were delicious. Like other reviewers, I found this to be a peaceful retreat from the commotion of downtown although it's convenient to get both to the town center and to Acadia National Park. Just spent two nights at this charming inn. It was a weekend we won't soon forget. We stayed in Deer cottage which was beautiful, clean and extremely comfortable. The hosts, Jack and Jeanni were so accommodating and personable and the breakfasts were not only scrumptious but made to order for my gluten allergy. The breakfast was served on the huge deck overlooking Frenchman Bay with astounding views. After a trip into town for the day, we arrived back to the Inn and relaxed on the peaceful porch swing, enjoying the solitude and privacy. We decided to explore the caves on the beach on the property at low tide after our host Jack went into great detail about the history of them. It was an amazing sight! We spent a weekend in Bar Harbor to sight see and relax. We chose Bay Ledge because it looked relaxing and what we thing a B&B should look like. We were NOT disappointed! We arrived later in the afternoon and were greeted by a hostess who showed us around the property and amenities prior to going to our room, she was wonderful and knowledgeable. We stayed in the Moose cottage and loved it! We took a walk down to the beach - I will admit I was a little nervous with the climb down but once I got to the beach I loved it! The Inn is beautiful, the food was excellent and the views from the Inn were amazing! Jean, Jack and all of their staff were friendly and helpful. When I attempted to re-book, Jeani chatised me for "assuming" that the reservation was made through their website. I realize that mistakes can be made (especially when it comes to IT) but Jeani was beyond unprofessional and treated me as if I was a misbehaving child. My husband and I spent 2 nights in the Bear Cottage while we explored Acadia National Park. It is convenient to the park but secluded and peaceful because it is not in downtown Bar Harbor. Jack kindly met us around 9pm (we didn't realize check in ended at 6pm until it was too late) to welcome us and show us around because we arrived late after driving from Rockland. The Bear Cottage is extremely comfortable and the fireplace would make it so cozy in cooler weather. Breakfast is served in a small dining room and on the patio of the main inn and we chose to eat out on the patio both mornings because the weather was beautiful and we enjoyed the view of the lake. Every morning, Jeanie prepares a delicious gourmet breakfast every morning, so don't miss it! There is a also a sideboard with additional items like hardboiled eggs, yogurt, homemade granola, and homemade jam. Jack and Jeanie were warm and hospitable and we loved our stay! read more

In my opinion, the best inns always make you feel somehow as though you're visiting your parents' house, only without the constant requests to check Dad's e-mail or engage in gossip about relatives--you finish the weekend well-rested, (very!) well-fed, and never forgotten about, thanks to people who delight in your happiness and comfort. This is exactly the way the wonderful staff at the Inn at Bay Ledge made us feel during our small honeymoon. This historic inn--which has been in business under different owners since at least the 1940s--has it all, from a giant porch with cushioned deck chairs and a big Penobscot Bay Swing; to a private rocky beach complete with barnacles, snails, crustaceans, and friendly lobstermen waving as they set out their traps offshore; to a hammock and four Adirondack chairs in the garden and a pair of pine chairs overlooking a tall rocky cliff over Frenchmans Bay; to an immaculate-but-comfortable living room with a sectional (that has lobsters on the upholstery!) that you just sink down into while reading the many topical magazines around; to a sauna room, piano, and book/movie library for guests to enjoy. The innkeepers have two friendly dogs that make you feel right at home as they unobtrusively lie at your feet while you enjoy homemade breakfast on the porch or in the dining room, both overlooking the bay. The breakfast is top-notch!! You're started off with coffee and a good selection of teas, a fresh fruit cup, cranberry-coconut granola and a variety of other cereals, hard-boiled eggs, and one of the day's baked goods--we had raspberry popovers and banana but muffins on our weekend--hot from the oven with a selection of locally made jam and butter. As you work on that, they'll start plating your main course (of which there's only one option--so make sure that you tell an innkeeper if you've got dietary restrictions before you arrive!), which is tasteful and elegant. The weekend we were there, we had a cheese soufflé with chive blossoms on the first morning, and on the second a 'tropical delight'--a puff pastry with fresh pineapple and tropical fruit cream sauce. Of the two breakfasts, I far preferred the savory one, but either way, it still goes to show that there's something for everyone here! The innkeepers are self-proclaimed 'ski people' who have their winter home in the mountains, and from October through May migrate to the seaside to run this lovely inn. Jeani and Jack were free with suggestions about how to enjoy the island and the area, and were frank about the quality of restaurants and other attractions around, eventually suggesting an absolutely fantastic place--The Burning Tree--that was perfect for our supper. (Supper is not served at the inn itself, but there's no shortage of quality restaurants in Bar Harbor, just a couple of miles down the road by bicycle or car.) We just felt so well cared for this weekend!--I don't think we walked through the front door once without Jack offering us bottled water 'for the ride', 'for the hike', or 'to take back to the room'! When we muddied up some jeans hiking up Cadillac Mountain and needed something to wear to supper that evening, the wonderful staff fired up the washing machine and dryer in a hurry and saved the evening for us! I suggest arriving early, before 5:00, since afternoon tea with homemade baked goods is served at that time each day. It's a wonderful way to relax after what is, for most, a long drive to Bar Harbor! Only two things could have improved the stay: first, with all of that bottled water, I'd have loved to have seen a recycling bin somewhere; instead, our bottles were thrown in the regular trash until we rescued them to recycle at home. Second, the online reservation system is a bit unintuitive and requires improvement: it's not truly an online reservation system at all, but really only a more convenient way for guests to transmit address and payment information to the inn while still needing to place an actual telephone call to reserve. The way the online system exists now could be very confusing for the ever-increasing number of people who expect to be able to complete the reservation in full online and speak with someone for the first time only upon arrival. If the innkeepers wanted to avoid that, then they shouldn't have an online system at all, and should just require that guests complete the entire reservation over the telephone. But something needs to change, evidenced by the one (!) bad Yelp review from someone who never even had the opportunity to stay there because of how confusing the current reservation system is. Neither of those complaints detract from what was truly an enjoyable stay! We really did feel at home here, and look forward to returning many times in the future. Mount Desert Island is just so rich with activities, and I can't think of a better way of enjoying them than staying in such an elegant, secluded-yet-accessible inn with staff that makes you feel truly at home. read more
