This is a very beautiful inn. The location is phenomenal right on the harbor, right on the water, in the midst of everything in town which is walkable to shops and dining. I had a minor meltdown upon check-in bc it appeared they had given our room to someone else and we called to complain to the manager, Josh, who upgraded us and was SO nice. Our new room was beautiful in the main building with a gorgeous view of the water. They had a welcome card for me and chocolates and a small gift for my birthday. We were impressed with everything here. Staff were friendly. Rooms are beautiful and well-appointed and comfortable and upgraded. Room cleaning was prompt and efficient (they were in and out within an hour of our walking out every day). Their lobby has games to play, newspapers, and 24/7 access to hot chocolate, fresh coffee, and fresh water and sparkling water on tap as well as a nice business center/printer computer. The women's restroom even had personal items out if you needed them. The rooms are unique and the architecture is different. Very charming hotel in a very charming town. The included continental breakfast was one of the nicest I've had included in a room charge in a long time. Large selection of fresh pastries, hot items, cold items, coffee, juice and tea as well as fruits always being replenished with care and attention. We enjoyed everything about this hotel. The Bar Harbor Inn is a truly unique and high end stay. Atmosphere: the grounds are well curated and taken care of. I loved the seasonal plants and flowers. The whole property was cozy, quiet and relaxing. Our room was spacious with a lovely balcony overlooking the water. Service: Welcoming and kind door people upon arrival, and the front desk staff was very helpful and provided all the most useful information. The bartender at the Oasis lounge was the perfect level of chatty but let us also have our own conversation. Every staff member we encountered seemed dedicated to hospitality. Location: Could not be better. Walking distance to everything in town but right on the water and perfect access to the shore path. Ample parking. Other notes. The continental breakfast was phenomenal. No hot items but they had delicious ham and cheese croissants, spinach and cheese pastries, yogurt dishes and heaps of fresh berries to keep you fueled up for a great day. Tasty coffee and everything was well stocked. This place cannot be beat. Folks usually only leave reviews for hotels when they have something to complain about but I do not have one such thing. My wife and I stumbled across this VERY nice restaurant just two blocks off the hustle and bustle of downtown Bar Harbor. My wife had the lobster bruschetta and lobster bisque soup which in her words was the best she had had on our entire trip to the state of Maine. Although my daughter was married at this resort 13 years ago, neither my wife nor I had ever stayed here as a guest until last month, when we spent a week in the Bar Harbor area. My wife's family used to live nearby, but no longer does, so we now need a hotel when we visit. We chose to stay here for the week we were here, and we had a great time. The location can't be beat. On the one hand, the hotel is right by the water, with stunning coastal views, many of which are enjoyed by individual rooms. (We had requested a room with such a view, and our room had one.) The resort is also a short walk to all the shops and restaurants in central Bar Harbor, as well as to the Village Green, from which, in the summer, you can catch free Island Explorer shuttle buses to various points of interest in Acadia National Park. Rooms are comfortable, with free wifi. Ours had a nice balcony; I don't know whether all of them do. Our housekeeper was friendly and efficient. All rooms come with a complimentary breakfast that was certainly better than a typical continental breakfast. There were croissants, savory pastries, blueberry and double chocolate muffins, cheese and sliced meat, and other things, including, of course, coffee, milk, tea and juice. Some items come out at different times, so if something you want is not out when you get there, wait a while and it will probably show up-- or ask for it, and chances are it will be brought out. You can eat breakfast indoors or out, in the pool area. The pool also deserves mention: it is a heated infinity pool which also shares the spectacular ocean views; right next to it is a hot tub. There is also a fire pit, and I am told that in the pool area, every night, you can toast marshmallows, but we never took advantage of this. We did, however, take advantage of the free cookies put out in the main lobby every afternoon, and the free newspaper (the Bangor Daily News) offered every morning. There are two main on-site restaurants besides the breakfast room, the Terrace Grille and Reading Room. The latter is a little fancier and is indoor dining only, so my wife and I, who are Covid-cautious, didn't eat there this trip, but the former has a lovely outdoor patio and boasts some very good food and service. All this doesn't come cheap, however. I think this may be the most expensive hotel my wife and I have ever stayed in. But you do get what you pay for. read more

We stayed here on our trip visiting Acadia national park. As soon as you walk in the front door you know you are on vacation. This inn screams vacation. It is perfectly located within walking distance of town, shopping and restaurants. It has a beautiful view of Frenchman's bay. Our room was perfect! It had a separate entrance that was just steps away from the shore path and did I mention Infinity pool? Yes, even a luxurious day spa. The staff was always friendly and helpful. Errol the bellman was especially helpful in helping us getting settled and making our way around the inn. They have 24hr coffee and tea available, as well as afternoon cookies that are set out each day. I was sad I had to leave, highly recommend this first rate place. read more

Beautiful and charming historic hotel right at the waterfront. Very convenient location and walking distance to the main drag. The staff are all friendly, accommodating and you can tell work really hard. Every day we saw employees meticulously maintaining the grounds. Complimentary continental breakfast is included with your stay. The only hot option is oatmeal but there is a decent spread of fruit, breads, pastries, cold cuts, yogurt, juices and coffee. We had very enjoyable meals at The Reading Room and Terrace Grill. The food at both restaurants was good and better than most of the places we tried in town. We stayed in the main building in a garden view room. The rooms are generally well maintained. Shower is very clean with a large tub. I noticed the white tile grout on the white tile was pristine. One thing I will say is that the walls are very thin. You can hear people talking in other rooms from the bathroom and there was constant foot stomping from above. Not sure if the rooms in the other buildings are the same but with the main building being old and historic I can understand why this is an issue. Nothing can really be done about it, just something to note if this generally bothers you. The rate for this type of accommodation steep. In terms of value, there isn't much. You're paying 5-star prices for a 3-star hotel. But I suppose that's the going rate for the area. Would gladly stay here again if we find ourselves in Bar Harbor in the future. read more

I went in late April and stayed 2 nights. Our room was in the main building with an ocean view. The desk clerk who checked us in was so helpful and kind...he told us everything we needed to know...he noticed we had a teenager with us and specifically mentioned to daily cookies offered in the lobby between 3p - 5p, and the hot cocoa available (with tea/coffee) in the room off the lobby 24 hrs. He also made note of the breakfast included and how to get there in the morning (it is in the next building over, a very short walk). The room was just the right size for 2 queen beds, and the bathroom is very large with a large tub and large vanity countertop. The balcony had 2 chairs, and the view is gorgeous overlooking the ocean. At sunset we witnessed a small wedding on the lawn below the balcony. So romantic. The continental breakfast was one of the better ones I've seen...an assortment of baked goods, plus a nice selection of fruit, including berries, and a selection of meats (prosciutto) and cheeses, and hard boiled eggs. Plus cereal, oatmeal, and coffee/tea/hot cocoa and assorted juices. The room with tables overlooks the pool area and fire pit. We splurged on breakfast in the hotel restaurant the 2nd morning just so we could eat in the gorgeous round room overlooking the ocean. The breakfast was incredible...one of us had crab eggs Benedict, another regular eggs Benedict only it was served with prosciutto, and our teenager had the pancakes which were so light fluffy...possibly the best pancakes I've ever had. The eggs Benedict had beautifully arranged multi-colored micro greens on top...I wish I had taken a photo of how beautiful the dishes were. Both nights we went to the bar and had one drink and brought it out onto the porch off the bar that overlooks the ocean. Gorgeous spot for a drink. We also got room service dessert one night which was outstanding...a delicate chocolate caramel mouse with crunchy pralines and s caramel drizzle and a blueberry pie. From beginning to end the staff was attentive, helpful, kind through the hotel...in the bar, at the restaurant, for room service. April is a great time to go to Bar Harbor. It isn't too crowded yet...you can get a seat at the bar (very small bar...only maybe 6-8 seats, or get a spot on the porch, and get into restaurants without reservations. read more

First time in Maine . Spending the week Celebrating our 30th anniversary at this beautiful place, impeccably clean. Excellent staff, excellent service. Everyone went above and beyond everyday. So friendly ! The grounds are perfectly manicured , so clean and beautiful gardens throughout. I wouldn't change a thing , the hotel was magnificent! A VERY nice continental breakfast included . We had an ocean view room which was directly facing the water. We had no problem sitting on our terrace for a few hours in the morning , afternoon or evening. It was that beautiful ! The hotel was at the very end of town, on the quieter end of the harbor and just Steps away from town. (Literally a three minute walk. ) Town is FILLED with shops, restaurants and boat tours. We ate dinner on their property each night, After long days of doing the "tourist thing" . The terrace Grill was fantastic! Tables overlooking the harbor, watching the boats and yachts going in and out. delicious meals (lobsters of course) , yummy cocktails , excellent service. This was the perfect place to sit back, enjoy a meal and take in the view of the a ocean. We are at the Terrace grill after a full day in Acadia National Park. Our waitress was informative about what to order, especially with my gluten allergy! Us Louisiana peeps enjoy crawfish so we decided to go bog and order the ! We did a starter of mussels and finished we the lobster meal and an Acadian Colada for a drink. We were so full by the end! We throughly enjoyed our time on the patio, watching boats, people watching and chatting. After our meal we walked the hotel property and the. Visited a couple shops close by. Came here for a quick lunch with my boyfriend for our last meal in Bar Harbor. We got a table right away and the view was fantastic. Unfortunately it got cloudy and windy so the in umbrellas came down for safety and the sun went into hiding.We were lucky it didn't rain. My boyfriend got a haddock sandwich and it really good. It was good well seasoned and the fish was fresh. I got a TBL sandwich which was also really good. All sandwiches come with a side of fresh chips, cole slaw or pasta salad. We thought portion size and pricing was very fair. I definitely recommend eating here if you are in the area. It's wayyy more worth it to eat here than jordons pond. read more

Beautiful hotel with outstanding, friendly & personable staff members. Indoor and outdoor restaurant have amazing food and service. Only thing I'm not a fan of is the fact that I don't have a microwave in my room and the AC/heat is broken so my room is FREEZING. I'm one who's typically always hot so I like it cool but when I'm in my room I have to cover up with blankets and layers of clothes. Also the water pressure in the shower is terrible! But other than that, one of the better hotels I've stayed at in Bar Harbor. Staff makes the experience satisfying. Whoever does the hiring and training process has done an excellent job. What a fantastic evening!!! Beautiful restaurant with an amazing view. The cocktails were inventive and very tasty. Perfect Maine fare, the selections covered every palate for a table of six, scallops were amazing, the salmon "brick" was divine, duck confit, lazy lobster, and short rib were all devoured with "yums" and "this is so delicious!!!!" Being said over and over again. Wine pairings were perfect. Deserts were so European in look and taste. Sergey, our server, was very attentive. Manager condescending and defensive. Planned to enjoy a sunny early June afternoon. Greeted at patio by a woman who informed me I would have to wait "20 - 25 minutes ". Noone else was waiting. I received a device and - literally - 3 minutes later I was informed a table was ready I ordered a $14 glass of wine. A normal "pour" is 5 ounces. I received 2.5 ounces and a small bowl of chips for $3.00. Spoke to the wait staff about my chagrin. She was brand new. Asked to speak to the manager who informed me his bartender is "meticulous and has been here for 35 years" Really. I turned away 2 potential customers while the hostess was away telling them I "don't recommend". They left. I've traveled to 5 continents. The waitstaff wil not receive their proper tip. I guarantee in 3 weeks Bar Harbor Inn will be desperate for help. Shame. You're going to lose waitstaff read more

I recently stayed here with my husband for two nights and can echo the wonderful descriptions of excellent service, perfect location and a grand atmosphere one cannot experience in a modern chain hotel. I read several reviews before choosing the Bar Harbor Inn and did see some of the criticisms myself including rooms that could use updating and some general cosmetic work to be addressed but these in no way decreased the overall awesomeness of this hotel. The average clientele is on the older side (75+) but that in no way should deter you from booking this hotel for your Bar Harbor stay. What I think it says is these guests have returned for years to their favorite hotel and that in itself is a testament to what the Bar Harbor Inn offers. We booked to enjoy Acadia and to check off an item on my bucket list : a sail on the 4 masted schooner Mary Todd. Our entire Bar Harbor / Acadia experience was only enhanced and amplified by two absolutely perfect weather days. The hotel is situation on the harbor and depending on the building, harbor views, garden or ocean views. Go for a water view! We were in rm 220... with a harbor / ocean view. The ocean path is directly below so it's not "private" but it is spectacular esp when a massive cruise ship isn't blocking your ocean view. They leave at 5 pm so grab a bottle of wine and two glasses and enjoy the spectacular unencumbered view before heading to dinner in the Reading Room ( separate review). I'm a vibe person and while this was a bit more reserved than I usually gravitate toward, I loved it! It's not in the least bit stuffy. Our room (220 main bldg) was spacious and well appointed. I loved the green and light blue paisley but wished the rug and furniture were lighter. It didn't say " ocean or beach" but really that's ok! The bathroom was small but had a fabulous soaking tub / shower with great water pressure! A small sitting area in front of larger window but on the balcony is where you'll sit enjoying the views! This balcony is private / you won't see your neighbor and overlooks , Harbor, ocean and pool! My only two critiques were the tv remote did not work from the bed( husband cared , I didn't) and we both wished the door to the balcony had a screen which I totally would have left open to hear the waves lapping on the rocky coastline below. Just a warning regarding this location where a cruise ship drops anchor almost daily. On a foggy Am, they blow their horn continuously while navigating in and if fog persists, so does the horn... every few minutes.... for hours. We were already enjoy the AM before checkin out, but I'm sure the idea of sleeping in for some was effected. Overall I'd give this hotel a 4.5 and we will definitely be back and likely request the same room ( though I'm debating an ocean front option too) . You just can't beat the perfect location! read more
