Rooms were clean and cozy and they provide you with things to make your hikes at Acadia a little bit easier! They provided blankets for sunrise at Cadillac, flashlights, and even gave us a grab and go breakfast treat when we missed breakfast. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a lovely little treat waiting in our room, which set the tone for a thoughtful and relaxing visit. The room itself was immaculate - spotlessly clean, comfortable, and well appointed with nice toiletries included. The varied daily breakfasts were a true highlight. Each morning started with a glass of fresh juice served in nice champagne glasses. Something different was served each day and all of it was delicious, expertly prepared with an elegant presentation that made the experience feel extra special. The common area was equally inviting, offering tea, coffee, and light treats throughout the day, and providing a perfect space to unwind. Service throughout our stay was very good and efficient, with every detail handled seamlessly. We truly loved our experience at Coach Stop Inn. Not only do the owners Anna and Jim do everything they can to make your experience relaxing but their attention to detail make for a stellar B&B experience. We loved the reminder email with our steps for check in as well as the room ready early notification. That made for a great experience after a busy day at Acadia! The space & room itself - beautifully decorated. We had 2 outdoor chairs for a patio space to sit outside and enjoy the leaves. Inside, they included everything from a smart TV to York mints by the bed to an umbrella! The toiletries in the bathroom were wonderful, too. Breakfast - it was relaxing to be able to come within the specified window of time and talk with the other guests - swap travel recommendations and future national park trips. The food itself was out of this world - on our visit, it was a poached pear and the most amazing strata accompanied by bacon and a stone fruit salad. We have already looked up recipes to attempt to replicate the breakfast (although we're sure it won't level up to their cooking). Also we appreciated getting offered a smidgen more to keep us full during a day of Maine adventures. We hope to stay again someday and really are thankful for our time there this week during our honeymoon! read more

Attention to detail, beautiful and spotless rooms, delicious breakfasts, and the perfect level of hospitality all added up to a wonderful stay at the Coach Stop Inn. We spent three nights there earlier this month and we really hated to see our time come to an end. Each morning breakfast was incredible and there was so much to eat we never needed a lunch even while walking all over the park. It was lovely to come back to homemade treats in the afternoon, too! I don't know that we've ever stayed in a B&B before and this was a great experience. Anna and Jim are wonderful hosts who think of EVERYTHING. They were helpful without being intrusive. Anna in particular knew a little bit about everyone, just enough to know what you liked or to offer suggestions--she was kind and professional. The inn is just a couple of miles from the Acadia NP entrance and a few more miles from downtown Bar Harbor--convenient! I would love to go back some day! read more

Fantastic bed and breakfast! All amenities are modern but it maintains the rustic charm you're looking for when visiting gorgeous Bar Harbor. We stayed in Somes Sound room. It was one of two rooms in a smaller unit behind the main building. The room was very clean and spacious. Also had USB ports, cable, Netflix access and a mini fridge in the room. The private bathroom was clean, and had modern shower and plumbing - exceeded my expectations! Breakfast was fabulous!! You can tell the owners take pride in what they do. GREAT place and totally would stay here again next time we visit Acadia. My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights, and I wish so badly we could have stayed longer! The owners were extremely welcoming, friendly and professional. Our room was adorable, comfy, and just perfect. Oh and breakfast.. THE BREAKFAST! It was really great. We had chilled melon soup and Eggs Benedict, and bonus, they were extremely accommodating with my dairy allergy. I just loved our room and also we had a little balcony outside the room - we didn't really take advantage of it due to the short nature of the visit, but I totally would have if I could! One more bonus, the common room has special treats of the day (peanut butter chocolate bar on the day we arrived) - a great pick-me-up for when you're checking in after a long day of driving or hiking! The owners really do put in a lot of effort to make sure your stay is a great experience. It's about ~10 minute drive from the downtown area, so unless you want a place that's walk-able from the bars/restaurants, this is an excellent place to stay! read more

I knew it was going to be a very good B&B, but Jim and Anna's hospitality exceeded all expectations. We did a bit of research, though not enough to know that Coach Stop is actually located a few minutes outside Bar Harbor Village. That turned out to be a nice treat for us, as it's close enough to town that you can hop in the car and drive over, but just far enough from the "hustle and bustle." Our four nights were just spot on perfect. We stayed in the Abbe Stuite, a super cozy room just off the second floor perfect for a couple, and at extremely reasonable rates. There's a claw-foot tub in the bathroom and a good-size living area as well as a comfortable bedroom, all done in a very relaxing shade of teal. Everything worked as it should, and the bathroom had both a vent system and heating fan (a luxury for the gf). The B&B is at the cutting edge, offering a Roku with Netflix, etc. if you're bringing kids and need to keep them busy. Downstairs, in the sitting room, you can relax by the fire with a cup of coffee and read a book or just mellow out, especially if you catch the well-appointed armchairs at just the right moment. The room is both homey and classy, neither too large (which can be awkward at some B&Bs) nor too small. Breakfast will be the highlight of many a visitor's stay. Jim and Anna are both amazing cooks and I was a bit surprised to learn they they were completely self taught. Their morning masterpieces were not only delicious but extremely creative and well thought-out, and often substantial enough to skip lunch and grab an early dinner. They weren't mere breakfasts but multi-course meals unto themselves, and I'd put put my four breakfasts here against any I've ever had. I'd list what we enjoyed, but I don't want to spoil the fun for future guests. Coffee and tea were available all day and different varieties of delicious cookies were available for us every evening. Gluten-free folks will appreciate the nod to them with alternatives available for both breakfast and snacks. The rooms are cleaned daily, and look immaculate when you return from a hike. The hosts themselves deserve five stars. They are friendly people with genuinely warm personalities, always ready to answer questions or offer suggestions, yet ever considerate of their guests' privacy and individual inclinations. In fact, I probably talked their ear off a bit. We've run into many other B&B hosts, but none as natural at the job as Jim and Anna. We would return in a heartbeat and, given that we fell in love with Acadia, just might. read more

This belated review comes as a result of our stay at the Coach Stop Inn in July of this year. The delay should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the Inn or on owner/chefs Jim and Anna. Our experience was great, and we'd heartily recommend it to others. For those on their way to Acadia or Bar Harbor, the location is convenient, as it sits about 5 miles outside of town. The distance is a little far, depending on what your plans are. But it is also nice to be free from the surrounding crowds for a while. That will ultimately be personal preference. Jim and Anna were just terrific hosts. They were friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. We arrived a little after the usual check in time, and they had left instructions for us. We met them the next morning at breakfast, and what a delicious breakfast it was! It'd made me wish we were staying more than one night, as I'd have loved to eat their again. The property itself was also great. The spaces inside the main house were rustic and homey. They were what you think of when you think of a bed and breakfast. We stayed in the Somes Sound room, which was located toward the back of the Inn. It had a separate entrance, and was in many ways like a traditional hotel room. It was perfect for us. We were on a road trip and booked at this inn for 2 nights. They had already let us know what to do if we reached late. Upon reaching the inn around 10pm, we found options for hot beverage and freshly baked pecan bars in the inn's common dining area along with a note to us on how to proceed further. I thought that was quite welcoming. The inn itself is less than 30 feet from the main road and since we had booked only the previous day, the only room that they had available was 'Sommes Sound'. Being right on the road didn't bother us one bit. It is a quaint yellow room situated around the side of the home with entrance from the outside. From our parked car, the room was only a couple of yards away, which helped with the heavy luggage. The inn keeper's attention to detail is remarkable. The extremely clean rooms decor was simple and elegant. Nightstands on both sides had bottled water, flash light and mint thins. The room even had an umbrella. The breakfast: Tea / Coffee / Hot chocolate Orange / Cranberry juice in chilled glass 1st day: Watermelon salad with Ginger dressing, Veg Frittata with Caramelized onion, Potato au gratin and candied Bacon. 2nd day: Triple Berry Smoothie, Baked Praline French Toast, Roasted Pork Tenderloin and Savory Baked Apple with cranberries. When we told the innkeepers how much we enjoyed their food, they even went out of their way and served us additional portions of both the bacon and the pork. They have even promised to share the recipes of the food we loved. The only thing we want to see a change in is the window treatments in the room we stayed in. Since it didn't have light blocking we had difficulty sleeping in. read more

My husband and I go to Acadia every year , and we were looking for a place to stay more consistently. This recent stay at coach stop inn was terrific. Anna and Jim were very welcoming and kind. They made the cutest breakfasts and, although offered seconds, you never needed it! The Somes room was quite perfect indeed for two, I wouldn't have wanted to go smaller. The bathroom here looked upgraded and I liked and appreciated that space a lot. The little touches of having seltzer , water and soda always available in the common dining room area was extremely helpful and appreciated. I also found myself wondering about the baked goodie of the day, after coming back from a day of hiking and soaking up Mother Nature. Anna consieredly the dietary restrictions that you mention in the reservation here as well. To celebrate a dinner out, we went to sweet pea cafe (winery on the same campus - but well have to check that out next time), this dinner was an excellent recommendation and so very close to this inn. As far as proximity goes, it depends on what you want, it's not in the crowded streets of bar harbor with water views, but a quick drive there. I enjoyed staying here, and the proximity to everything. It was perfect to go back take a nap and to then go back out to enjoy a sunset and dinner or something. Ohh also the beds were super comfy !! Hard to get out. Breakfast timeframe is narrow - 8 to 9 in the am, but I felt that it helped to keep the daily pace and enjoy the day without letting me sleep the morning away . This was a lovely bed and breakfast. Our suite was nice and spacious with a separate sitting area. I would recommend more hooks for coats as well as in the bathroom for towels to dry. There was plenty of storage space for clothes and efficient set up for charging stations, phone and tablets. The decorations were nice and not overly done or "kitschy" as I have experienced elsewhere. The hot water was plentiful for the claw foot tub. The breakfasts were large portions and will give you enough energy to hike the Acadia paths. The keepers were able to accommodate my dietary restrictions and provided day long tea, soda, coffee, water and chocolate snacks. Some of the breakfast items were very hot when served but were delicious when consumed. Nice location, nice keepers and lovely scenery. read more

We stopped into the Coach Stop Inn for our last night on Mount Desert Island after an Acadia Hiking trip, and loved our stay at this well-run family inn! It was the best service we have experienced! We arrived to informative texts that made check in a breeze, mints and waters in our room, and dessert and coffee in the main room. They truly nail small, personal touches that make the stay very cozy and cute. The room was super clean and adorned with scenic pictures of Maine. After a delicious morning breakfast, the owner came out to meet us while packing up our car to give us whoopie pies to go. My wife and I took our 15th anniversary getaway up the Maine coast. The Coach Stop Inn was easily our favorite stay. The room was very comfortable, nicely apportioned, and immaculately clean. It was Deborah, however, that made everything come together. She was so knowledgeable and helpful about Mt Desert Island. She recommended a great secluded cove to watch the sun set and sent us to several excellent restaurants. And the breakfast is an event! Hand-made, orange zest muffins; french toast stuffed with cream cheese and pistachios....oh my. If you are going to be visiting the area, look for reservations here first. From the moment we arrived we felt at home here. We unfortunately were here only for one night. When I come back to Bar Harbor this is the place we would stay. It is a few miles from Bar Harbor proper but, not a long distance. Deborah was friendly and helpful to make us feel welcomed. This is her 3rd season here. The room was very clean and the beds and linens were wonderful. Nice big towels. We had a nice patio out front to sit. Leon; Deborah's dog was so friendly and sweet. The breakfast she prepared for us was definitely perfect to get us started for the day in Acadia Park and our drive back to Portland. It was very quiet at night and lots of stars to be seen. This B&B is rustic in decor, very home like & exceptionally clean. We could not have asked for anything better. The breakfasts that were served, any master chef would have been impressed. I asked Jim & Anna if they had any cooking experience and they said it all came from self teaching and dedication, which was proven in their breakfast. We stayed here last month for a few nights and it was an average stay. After seeing the town of Bar Harbor, I would definitely have stayed at an Inn walking distance to town if I were to do it over again.. the town is incredible with lots of cute shops and restaurants and a beautiful waterfront. Just understand if you book here, the Inn is located on along a busy road.. no where to walk to. Our room was comfortable and Anna was friendly. We never got to meet Jim but he did leave a very passive-aggressive response to a review we left on TripAdvisor. If he had been more professional, I would have given him an extra star on this site. When we arrived the first day, we parked in the main area which (I believe) has 4 spaces. Anna asked if, when we came back, if we could specifically park in the spot that went with our room which was the last space in front of the rear garage. The main area was for the guests in front of the Inn and they also didn't want cars parked in the front circular area. Sure! We had no issue with that. We came back a few hours later when it was dark and went to park in the space she wanted and the apple tree limbs were so low that it scratched our car! Numerous branches were hanging 4ft off the ground right where the parking was. I ended up parking perpendicular to the other cars which, unfortunately, would make getting out of the parking spots harder for the other guests but there was no other place for us to go. We made mention of the branches the next morning and they trimmed them later that day so we could park in that designated spot where they wanted our car. Problem solved! I just wished our car hadn't been scratched up in the process. The breakfast was OK. The first morning breakfast was super sweet with 1 piece of baked praline French toast and a baked apple with brown sugar and sugared cranberries and 2 half dollar sized pieces of rare pork medallions. The 2nd morning was an herbed egg, 2 pieces of fried potato and a few pieces of fruit. It was a pretty presentation!! But the portions were so small. We've stayed in hundreds of B&Bs over the years and found these were the smallest breakfast portions we'd ever encountered. The way things were setup, it didn't feel like we could ask for more food, but it worked out anyway. It gave us the chance to go into town and sample the breakfast places there- try breakfast bowls at Everyday Joes, the BEST wild Maine blueberry pancakes at Jeannie's (I'm still craving them) or Lobster quiche at Jordan's. Again, the Inn was OK but I would definitely recommend looking into the ones walking distance to town as we saw some better options for similar cost. read more

My wife and I spent four nights here on our honeymoon back in July. We absolutely loved it! The location was easy to get to and close enough to town that it was easy to access, but far enough away to enjoy some peace and quiet. The breakfast each day was amazing. Each morning, there were delicious muffins, then some sort of fruit dish, then the main course. In the afternoons, there were fresh treats out (whoopie pies, chocolate chip cookies, margarita cake, and red velvet muffins) along with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and cold beverages (water & soda) available all day. The inn was beautifully kept and our room (we stayed in Acadia suite) was very tastefully decorated in a modern, but beautiful way. The colors were welcoming and warming. The bed was very comfortable and the towels were delightfully soft. The innkeeper, Deborah, was so helpful and friendly. We stayed there for two nights and absolutely loved it. The place was rustic but immaculately clean and cozy. The small details were much appreciated- the fresh baked goodies set out every night in the dining area, coffee and tea always available (self serve after breakfast), shared sitting room with lots of magazines and books to peruse while you sit by the (gas) fire, and free Netflix on the TV in the room! We stayed in the Heritage room and it was cozy and cute. I appreciated the interior decorating and lighting, as well as the overhead fan in the room to keep the air moving. There was no closet, but they have a rack with hangers and a dresser, so it didn't bother me. The bed and pillows were also extremely comfortable (which is more than I can say about a few of the other places we've stayed recently). It was raining our last day, and the owners left umbrellas outside our door for use to use as needed- so cute! The breakfasts were also very tasty and interesting (for example,baked pears with mascarpone and granola crumbles, waffles, and sausage, with real maple syrup). It looks like they can (at least somewhat?) accommodate food restrictions, as another guest was gluten-free and they had meal and cookie options for her. I suppose I would check with them before booking, if you have unique dietary needs. The only downside of the place that I see is that it is about a 5-10 minute drive from Bar Harbor town center. We don't drink much alcohol, so it didn't matter to us, but this could be an negative for some who wants to go out for dinner in town and have a lot of drinks and be able to walk back to their lodging (not sure what the taxi cab situation is there). Thoughtful amenities like a modern white noise machine, USB outlets, and mini flashlights on the bedside tables are just an added perk to this meticulously maintained B&B. Staying in the Somes Sound room and it's super clean, has an updated bathroom, mini fridge, small love seat and is tastefully decorated. Looking forward to seeing what is served for breakfast in the morning. Check in process was great! We got a courtesy text around 1:30 letting us know our room was ready early and that we could check in whenever we were ready which was great because we were killing time waiting for 4:00pm. The winery and cafe up the street (3 min drive) was recommended by Anne and also checked all the boxes in deliciousness and convenience. Now THIS is what a Maine B&B should be like. Truly a (not-so-hidden) gem. On our recent tour of coastal Maine, we had the good luck of being able to book into The Coach Stop Inn. Very reasonable rates for the Bar Harbor area. It's a bit (just a small bit) of a jog out of Bar Harbor and Acadia, but pretty negligible. Once you get to know the area, this becomes a huge advantage. There aren't enough nice things to say about this inn. We had the best time here. We booked into the Somes Sound room. Cute and private, with its own entrance. Deborah, the inn-keeper, is so warm and accommodating -- she's the best -- she takes extra special care of her guests. We had to check in late because we'd spent too much time in Freeport (I'm looking at YOU, L.L. Bean!). I called Deb around 4:30pm the day of check-in to let her know of our delay, and she was just awesome about it. Deb has a 'wicked' knack for being able to facilitate her guests' conversations and interactions. Inn-keeping is clearly in her blood. Her intimate knowledge of the surrounding area (routes to take, places to park, restaurants, park-road-construction-traffic-snarls to avoid) really came in handy (she'll take a map of the park and mark it up for you with routes to take and places to avoid, depending on construction). We loved that the inn's location is just close enough to Bar Harbor without actually being in it. Oh, and another thing? The food! The gourmet breakfast and afternoon treats are simply amazing. Deb and her staffer, Joy, are excellent chefs. Plus, they served the best coffee we had in Maine (8 O'Clock -- thanks for the turn-on, Deb!)(Sorry, DD!). And they keep the property immaculate. Joy is sweet as can be, too -- and I cannot believe she turned our overnight, overturned luggage mess into something presentable upon our return from sight-seeing). Don't forget to ask to meet Deb's dogs, Leon and Rufus (Ru). They're little charmers, too. Their parlor is open 24 hours. Warm and cozy. They have a mini-fridge with waters (Poland, natch) and sodas and (wait for it!) FIZZY WATERS! Love you, Deb, for THAT touch! There are so many personal touches here. I wanted to stay longer. Stayed here back in August. Enjoyed our stay. Nice rustic place, well kept. The owner was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent. Excellent value for Bar Harbor. The B&B is about 5 miles from town, wish it were a little closer, but no complaints! read more

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon for about a week. Everything was very nice. The inn keepers--Jim and Anna--while new, are very good at what they do. When they found out it was our honeymoon, they suprised us with a bouquet of flowers and champagne. The little touches....the little flower left on the fresh towels every morning, the chocolates left by the bed side every day...were fantastic. Breakfast was great; not once in the time that we stayed there did they repeat meals. The food left me filled and ready for a good hike but not overly stuffed and sleepy. The room itself was perfect. We were slightly nervouse when booking the Abbe suite online because it appeared to be a bit cramped but the opposite is true. The space is actually very roomy and super comfortable; after spending the past month busy wedding planning, my husband and I actually spent a good bit of time relaxing in our suite. The room was equipted with everything...fridge/freezer, headphones, netflicks and hulu, a hair dryer and lots of other things to make you feel at home. read more

This has to be one of the best options on the island. Unique house (very old) nice inn keepers (not overbearing type A's the scare me) The rest of the options in Bar Harbor all seem so overpriced and dumpy. Competitive rate for a nice B&B. Worth the price. If we ever make it back to Maine, we are staying here again. read more

We loved this place! Deborah, the innkeeper, is just amazing. Her inn is immaculate and comfortable without being fussy, and it still feels very much like an early 19th coach stop, especially in the older part of the inn. Our room was in what had been a stable block behind the original inn, and was well appointed with a comfortable bed, good lighting, a nice sofa for reading, and TWO luggage racks (the only place we stayed on this trip that had a place to put both of our suitcases). Deborah gave us great directions to visit a lighthouse on the southern tip of Mount Desert Island to see the sunset that evening, good advice on restaurants in Bar Harbor, and a good (and scenic) route to get to a lovely small beach on our way out the next morning. It was so unseasonably warm we had dinner at a sidewalk cafe in Bar Harbor the first night and it was 70 degrees at 8 pm - in October!! That night my husband and I stargazed from the little patio in front of our room, and as the Coach Stop Inn is very near the Acadia "dark park", the clear night sky was dazzling - the Milky Way like a river of light, and so many stars it was hard to find familiar constellations. Breakfast the next morning was just as terrific - all home made, with warm lemon-blueberry muffins, a tropical smoothie, and Eggs Peloponnese. The menu card even included a weather report for the day! Deborah was so nice, too - attentive to her guests and a great help to new visitors to this beautiful island.
