Our first time here and many disappointing moments and a select positive ones. The food selection is basic and not worth the expense. The only positive was the experience, if you've never experienced it before. We have and although our cook was friendly, the food was a great disappointment. The chicken was overcooked, the steak was ok, my scallops (which were different thicknesses) were good on the thick ones and rubbery on the small ones. The shrimp appetizer was overdone. The fried rice had uncooked portions of rice. All in all, not an experience we will revisit. Our server was obviously serving multiple tables because we barely saw her. Shogun is still our favorite eating spot in Tulsa. We have been coming here for 15 years!! I know they have been around a lot longer and hands down the best. We enjoy the magic and fire shows. "Sometimes you just got to not eat for the whole day until you arrive...". I have heard that from many of our table pairs of other patrons. They still do give you a lot to enjoy and take home. What a great place to celebrate a special occasion! I took my fiancé here to celebrate his birthday, and we were both blown away by the entire experience. The ambiance was very relaxing and quiet, with a water feature and fountains in the center of the restaurant. I enjoyed getting paired up with other strangers at our table to enjoy the food being cooked in front of us. Kids love it and even the adults are entertained!! $25 a head adult steak, fried rice additional, veggies, soup, salad, and icrecream! I love this place! There are other places similar in Tulsa but nothing compares. The quality of the food is second to none. The fish is the best I have ever had anywhere. The entire experience was AMAZING! The owner was our hibachi chef. He was the coolest! The food quality was outstanding, the entertainment spot on and enlightening, and the strangers at our station were quite fun and engaging! What a disappointment this place was, where do I begin? Let's start with the positives; The host who checked us in was kind and seated us promptly, our waitress was friendly and took great care of us. Negative** The teppanyaki chef we had was awful!! He was trying to be funny but instead, he came off as antagonistic, rude and inappropriate. He pretended he was going to throw the salt shaker at my daughter, his spatula at my 13 year old granddaughter and then a knife at my 4 year old granddaughter's face. He literally held the chef's knife in his hand and lunged forward pretending the knife was going to stab her face and then said "just kidding". I didn't think he was funny at all, he already could see she was scared after the first inferno he ignited without warning. After the third fire show, I said "enough with the fire". When he was making the fried rice, he asked to toss a piece into my 13 year old granddaughter's mouth, she said yes. He then asked my daughter and she said yes. He asked me and I said "I'm good" and he said "does that mean yes?" I was trying to be polite by saying "I'm good" but he pushed it and I said "no, I'm good" then he asked again!! I had to say "no" more than once, what the hell? He tried to make a joke about me being coherent and asked how many fingers he held up, I said 5 he said "no, 4 fingers & 1 thumb" The final straw, he made some joke to my 13 year old granddaughter alluding she was an air head. We were there to celebrate her birthday btw. We are very familiar with Benihana and thought this experience would be similar but the chef was more focused on performing than cooking. I brushed off the first few incidents but when it seemed he was purposely trying to scare my 4 year old granddaughter, I was done with him. Once he left, I asked my husband what he thought and he said "what was the knife joke, he could have stabbed her if she leaned forward?" After we left, I started piecing it all together and the whole experience with him was inappropriate, intrusive and rude. One of our favorite places. Went here for New Year's Eve, and the service was excellent. Food was great and the price was reasonable.

This was certainly a tasty meal and the waitress and chef were quite hospitable and friendly. This always makes for a good time. I felt the chef did a great job but I feel like he was holding back on his hibachi skills. He was clearly talented but for whatever reason didn't wow us. We also had a full group surrounding the grill. The establishment is clean and in good order. For me, having visited many hibachi grills in the US I wasn't wowed but I still enjoyed myself. Our experience at Shogun Japanese Restaurant with the waitress: 1) She took my husband's straw off his plate, without asking, and handed to someone else at another table. When I told her about herself, she acted like she didn't speak English. 2) She brought out 3 lemons for a table of 8. My sister asked for more and she told her to share. When she decided to bring more, she placed a slice of lemon on each plate. 3) She wasn't clearing our table so we placed the dirty dishes on another table. She noticed that my other sister didn't have a fork and just gave her a random ass dirty fork with dressing on it! 4) A gentleman in our party advised her of his shrimp allergy. She did not tell our cook. Needless to say, he had to make the food all over again! 5) Of course we made multiple complaints to the manager. The manager seemed unbothered by our complaints and was very dismissive. However, I'm assuming he told her. She comes to our table and told a lady in our party that we told on her to her boss and don't we know she is busy? In conclusion, I will NEVER patronize this establishment again. How is this place still open? The WORST hibachi in tulsa it's almost embarrassing. The working conditions for the employees is noticeably awful, as the servers and other employees are drenching in sweat due to this place not venting properly to account for the multiple open top grills. The quality of the food is an embarrassment, i wouldn't touch any of it with a 10 foot pole. This is a tulsa staple and i have no idea why. read more

The service was really.... Not great. Our chef was good. But our waitress was visibly upset when we sat down and treated us as such. An actual bug (don't want to jump to conclusions and say a roach, but it looked like one) crawled from under the hibachi table onto where we were eating during the appetizer. We have probably been going to Shogun for 25 years. ( started when they were at 51st and Harvard). The problem is I don't think they have updated or changed anything in 25 years. This has been our special occasion place-birthdays etc. Our boys would always look forward to going and they still do, even in their 20s. It's just that now there are more similar restaurant choices available that seem cleaner, better atmosphere, more attentive, etc. So last night we went with a party of 9. We were late so we had to wait (we did call them and tell them we were running late), but that was understandable because it was our fault and Shogun tends to pack out on weekends. Waited in the bar-got a club soda, Titos vodka and limes. The bartender was very friendly and made good drinks. Once we were seated, we got our soup and salad (love their ginger dressing) in a reasonable amount of time but then we had to wait a really long time for a chef. But our chef later told us they were short 2 chefs that evening, one due to illness. Our chef Tony saved the day. He was so friendly and entertaining, and really good with all of his tricks and food preparation. After the soup and salad, the chef prepares the fried rice (you can have steamed if you want), vegetables (zucchini, onions and mushrooms) and the shrimp appetizer for everyone. All of it is consistently very good and we love to douse everything in the ginger sauce. They also give you mustard sauce, but we always ask for double ginger sauce instead. For my main entree I had the shrimp (rising star I think). I have sometimes gotten shrimp and chicken or steak. My husband got the imperial emperor (8 oz filet). I think most people in our group were happy with their food. One cousin had never been before and really enjoyed it. Some people in our party were unhappy because they had waited so long and just didnt like it. After our meal, ice cream and hot tea are included. I had leftovers and they always make a show of wrapping it in a fun shape, such as a swan or purse. The bathrooms were dirty and a mess. I know it was probably their busiest night but someone should have been checking it. And it so should be updated. In fact their entire decor in the bar and restaurant should be updated. But maybe they do so much business they don't care. I just think they have some major competition coming on not too far away that is new and upscale. We still think they have the best ginger sauce around and we do like their food and we have a couple of favorite chefs. So we will be back but it's not our only option anymore. read more
