What a great find today--I discovered a hidden gem! This is officially my new wing spot. I tried three different wing flavors, and every one of them was outstanding. The original location is in Long Beach , but I am thrilled that the second location is closer to home. I visited during the soft opening and had a great experience. My boyfriend and I ordered the Sweet Spicy Garlic wings, Water Buffalo wings, and a side of garlic noodles. The Water Buffalo wings were our favorite due to their unique, creamy flavor, and all the wings were perfectly crispy and well-seasoned. While the garlic noodles were a great side, having Sriracha available would have been a nice addition. The owner and staff were incredibly friendly and engaging; the owner even provided us with extra wings and asked for our feedback. Additionally, there are plenty of indoors and outdoor seating. I would have liked a little spicier even. The manager Mike was awesome. He was friendly and helpful with suggestions. Place was clean. They have a large TV inside. Had soccer on at the time. I came with a friend on Sunday, loved both the food and how welcoming the owners were, and ended up coming back again today. We're so happy to have another Shlap Muan location now located in SGV. Visited the Monrovia location around 4pm on a Sunday. The 20 piece wings were made in under 10 minutes. My wife and I ordered the Spicy Cambodian Dirt and Dirty Elvis. We enjoyed the Dirty Elvis but thought the Spicy Cambodian Dirt was lacking seasoning. We were hoping it was going to shlap us in the face with flavurrrr but it didn't. Not sure if it's just this location or maybe we just got a less seasoned batch. I recall the Long Beach location having better seasoning the two other times I've gone there. Besides that the service is good. The workers are always helpful and pleased to serve you. It wasn't busy at all when we got there. Just another couple beside us. The location is clean and spacious. Plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. The ambiance was pretty mellow, quiet, you can hear a dime drop during our visit at least. I ended up ordering a 8 piece wing order and used my SGV Passport to get a free 4-piece addition to my order. Here is the breakdown of what we tried: Water Buffalo: Incredible. The buffalo sauce has a unique twist with lemongrass and what tasted like Thai bird's eye chili. The owner says he makes his own chili sauce to make the buffalo sauce and I believe it 100%. It was incredibly tasty with a perfect kick. 5/5 Cambodian Dirt: Think of this as their elevated version of Lemon Pepper, where the lemon flavor comes from lemongrass instead. It has a great sour punch, but it is perfectly balanced and completely delicious. 5/5 Spicy Cambodian Dirt: Took the excellent flavor profile of the regular Dirt wings and kicked the heat up a notch. 5/5 Between the phenomenal, unique flavors and the top-notch customer service from the owner, Shlap Muan has absolutely earned a spot on my regular rotation. The Cambodian Dirt wings here are perfectly crispy with just the right amount of seasoning. They're salty, slightly sweet, and tangy. The buffalo sauce was also just the right balance of buttery, salty, and tangy. I can tell the people here are really passionate and proud of their work (as they should be). Got some garlic noodles and spicy Cambodian dirt wings...enough to shlap yo muan. Don't pass on the noodles just because it's garlic. Yes, you can eat it and still be allowed to remain at work. No one's gonna say "Ew! What's that smell?!" In fact, they'll come by and say "That smells so good, I'm hungry..." The garlic flavor is there with other spices but not overpowering...you'll taste garlic, soy sauce, onion, etc. Wings are crispy and tender as you would expect...not arrested and imprisoned by a thick winter coat of batter. The flavor is a breath of fresh air from nearby chain stores where the same comeback sauce is used under different names. Expect to taste the chicken rather than drenched in orange-pink mayo. And none of that greasy feeling afterwards. Clean, fried, tasty. Didn't take long for the order to be done. Quick and courteous. There's a bunch of other flavors to choose from so be adventurous.
