Chicken Protein Bowl - Krispy and Lemongrass
    Rosa R.

In the mood for chicken and something different, this is definitely the place to check out. For me, the chicken broth was bland and in desperate need of seasoning. The combo plate was okay, both the chicken and the rice needed seasoning and a sprinkle of salt. The chili ginger wings were strong in flavor and the bland rice helped out. The Cumquat drink was good. Not familiar with Cambodian flavors, not sure if these flavors were accurate. Customer service was good.

I was looking forward to trying this place and couldn't wait for the LB location to open up and instead drove to West Covina. I ordered online which was easy to do, but I was charged a 5% Online Platform Fee. It's a small restaurant with a few small tables and barstools. Not great for groups. No one was there when I was there around 5:30pm. Enjoyed the Hainan Chicken and Ginger Rice with the chili-ginger sauce. The chicken had some skin which tasted great together and was tender. The accompanying soup was delicious. The Bad - the Burd Bombs were very dry and tasted overcooked. Ordered the chili garlic chicken wing but it did not have any chili flavor so the name was misleading. Flavor was pretty bland. I'm not sure if I would come back to this location but I would be willing to give LB a chance when they open.

Tried this place 3x but we usually do take out.. The chicken was tender and the rice had good flavor, though nothing really stood out as amazing. Portions were fair but pricy. The highlight would be the crispy skin. It's my hubby's fav. The first time was great generous portion, then second time was small and third time seems like they changed the to go boxes and the price went up! The vibe is casual and service was friendly, making it an easy spot for a quick bite. Sadly their closed on Sunday's

    Classic Burd ($13.95)

Burd Chicken Rice (West Covina) is fresh, filling, and fast. I ordered the Classic Burd ($13.95). It's slow-cooked, dark chicken meat & fresh yellow rice; the meal includes a side of broth and chili-ginger sauce & ginger scallion sauce. The meal felt satisfying, clean, and healthy. I arrived at Burd Chicken Rice (West Covina) on Thursday (around 11:35AM). The location is busy yet efficient. There's two self-service ordering stations. Also, there's a counter where staff can take your order. (Quick Note: The Self-Service Stations requests a phone number; however, it's not needed. You can leave it blank and just hit "continue.") Staff is courteous and diligent. Staff regularly exclaim friendly phrases and offer help to customers. In addition, the food arrived ridiculously fast! It only took three minutes and 15 seconds!! The Classic Burd ($13.95) is filling. The chicken tasted clean and tender. By itself, there's no real flavor; however, it became much more enjoyable when dipped into the tangy chili-ginger sauce. The chicken portions are not huge, but it's a satisfying size. Personally, I enjoyed the fresh yellow rice the most. I loved how this rice tasted slightly fragrant and hot. There's also a self-service water station, and I genuinely enjoyed its crisp, chill, & refreshing water. Regarding ambiance, Burd Chicken Rice (West Covina) is clean and well-decorated. The art mural on its wall is gorgeous and vibrant. The tables are shiny and smooth. Also, the music is upbeat and enjoyable. If I were to nitpick, the location felt a little stuffy and warm. Overall, Burd Chicken Rice (West Covina) is a solid, affordable, & healthy option. The food lacks a memorable flavor; however, its food is fresh, clean, and filling. If local, it's a great option towards making a healthier lifestyle change. 4.5 out of 5

This place is located in downtown West Covina. There is usually plenty of parking. But can get busy towards the evening during the weekends because of the theater near by. When you walk in there are 2 kiosks and a register to order from. The staff is always super friendly. We came 2 times and they remembered us the second time! The dining area is pretty spacious and they also offer outdoor seating. I got the lemon chicken (not pictured) and my sister got the OG hainan chicken with rice and this hit so hard!! Rice and chicken were so flavorful and I also got a strawberry milk and it was also amazing! I've had my share of hainan chicken and this is top 3 for me! They also have friend chicken skin and fries which were also great! Definitely recommend!

    Tip

I was excited when I read the positive reviews about Burd Chicken Rice. I recently came back from Singapore and was looking forward to having Hainan Chicken again. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The flavor was bland and not what I had expected. But...I want to start by saying the crispy chicken skins were excellent...perfectly seasoned. The smell was so tempting that I couldn't wait to get home. I admit I had to sneak in a taste. I think the skins taste best when hot and crispy. The flavor of the Classic Burd was bland. The scallion and ginger sauce added flavor, but overall still bland. I'm not sure how to describe the Krispy Burd. It was definitely not crispy. It tasted like day old chicken that had been overcooked. The meat was dry and not flavorful. The interior of the restaurant was clean. Service was friendly. The gentleman advised us that it would take about 10 minutes to prepare our food after we placed our order.

I'm just gonna do a quick rating: Coconut Water and Sugar Cane Drink -- Solid 8.5/10 The Classic Hainan Chicken Rice -- a 7.9 / 10 The Chicken Skin Crisp -- a 4 / 10 Ambience: 9/10 clean & modern Service: 10/10 very friendly So I'll get right to it why I rated the crispy chicken skins that were recommended to me low. If you ever been to Hondaya, Ojiya, or any one of those old school yakitori places in Taiwan, usually Chicken skins are not fried per se so it was interesting trying out a fried version here. The skins in the above mentioned places are treated, stretched out grilled / charcoaled and rubbed with some yakitori / Sacha sauce to maximize texture and flavor. Here at Burd Chicken Rice, the Crispy Chicken Skins had a gamey taste, a little too gamey. It almost felt like the skins were tossed directly into the frier, not treated, and coated with pepper flakes, pepper powder, and some spices. It tasted like Fried Pork Skin, a little too greasy, a little overwhelming. So when you have Hainan Chicken which is steamed, boiled with Ginger, Rice Wine for pretreatment, the chicken itself is very refreshing, while the skins were the direct opposit of that. You can either coat the skins with curry powder marinade then fry, gochi berries rice wine marinade then fry, or 5 spices then fry then toss together with chilli powder and msg to give it a kicker Or if stand alone, a vinegar based sauce with more sourness and pepper salt would be a better compliment to the crisps. The Hainan Chicken itself was fairly decent, although this was the first time it was presented on a bed of cabbage. I'd wish there were more vinegar based pickled radishes or cucumbers to compliment the chicken. The meat was really tender, rice a little on the softer side, was overall decent; not WoW, but more like ya, if I'm passing by and I need to fill that void for Hainan Chicken, it's a yes.

Burd is located in this strip mall next to Plaza West Covina. I heard about how the hainan chicken rice so since we were j. the area we tried it out. i got the hainan chicken rice plate and wife got the lemongrass chicken plate the portions were decent as well were full after finishing our plates. can with 2 sauces: the standard scallions and ginger sauce and another sauce church my wife raved about. i would say the hainan chicken was good the chicken moist and had enough flavor. rice flavor was not overpowering and you can take the broth in the rice. lemongrass chicken i wish it had more flavor. the lemongrass flavor was there but subtle overall not a bad place for hainan chicken. for the 2 of us, just 2 chicken plates no drinks came out to $30 pre tax and tip. you order at a kiosk and u can either pick up or they will bro g your tray. but you bus your tray after finishing. they have both indoor and outdoor seating. not the tables outdoors are not that stable so be forewarned

Ordered Door dash delivery from this chicken rice shop the other day. It's been chilly and hubby caught a cold. So chicken rice was a good choice for him. We have tried chicken congee and two kinds of chicken rice. The food was so comforting and delicious. Portions were great for the prices. We will definitely order from this place again!

It's an ok place. The service is great. My chicken rice plate is pricy but needed to be more seasoned. Shoestring fries were great and the iced coffee is small. There is outside seating and plenty of parking

Food was delicious. I got the mix burd plate. Comes with clear broth soup, two different types of chicken, rice, fresh cucumber slices, shredded cabbage and two types of sauce. It was a to-go order and service was fast. Owners are very nice.

Eduardo the owner is ALWAYS very attentive and full of joy to serve us. He checks on us to make sure everything is ok with our orders. Kiren the other owner has been awesome too, since our first visit. She was concerned my daughter wasn't eating. Also, always checking in on us. She remembered us the second time we came and asked if my daughter if she was doing better because the first time we were there she had morning sickness so she couldn't enjoy her food. I love finding hidden GEMS, especially Mexican restaurants, with real Mexican food!! What can I say ?! We love it ! Five times here. No regrets. Always good. Food is delicious! Service is AWESOME! Always so friendly, warm, & helpful since the first time we found them. . :D Can't believe it took me so long to find this hidden gem living nearby and around here all the time. How did I find it ?? Well, how do I, and we all, find all my / our favorite restaurants? I Yelped of course !!! :D I was in the area looking for a good place to eat. I yelped Mexican food and TA DA ! I would have never found it, since it's sort of hidden in an area less traveled, in the shopping center across from the West Covina Mall, behind sushiholics & The Bundt place. Same center where Panera is & Sushiholics, except it's on the back side street, on California Ave. I would have never walked over there, on the backside of the shopping center. Just happy to have found it now! Besides GREAT SERVICE, GREAT FOOD ! We are suckers for birria. So 1st time here we had birria chilaquiles with over medium eggs plate, quesabirria, and ramen birria hehe ! YUMMM Yes, it was good, a little spicy for me, but good. I always have to clarify how I want my eggs at restaurants because believe it or not some cooks don't understand that over medium means soft yolks. They sometimes bring me over hard and that's not what I ordered. Over medium eggs have to be just right! No runny whites and no hard yolk. I explained that to Eduardo when ordering because I didn't want hard or soft; runny & gooey whites ewww. So I'm always very specific. Eduardo said no problem, if we don't get them right we can remake them for you. :D Woohooo ! They were perfect! Not many places get it right the first time, so they always remake them, but not here ! PERFECTION !! Thank you Eduardo!! I was happy ! Can't forget about the coffee!!! Oooh coffee! We love coffee so when the owner told us iced coffee ! Whoa ! Our eyes lit up ! YESSSSS please! It was good as well and when she saw we had finished it, she offered us a free refill. Thank you my new friend! You're the best !!! You made our day !!! We were like we're coming back !!! 2nd time, I had bulgogi breakfast bowl with over medium eggs ! I love eggs with beef ! Who doesn't ?! lol Eggs were perfect ! Beef was perfect too ! My grandson ate all my bulgogi though lol! I guess he liked it too. 3rd time on Friday 7/25/25 Eduardo always very cheerful & welcoming :) I ordered the chicken salad lunch, daughter ordered the green pozole! She's a sucker for green pozole hehe. I loved my salad! It was perfect! The chicken was perfect, pulled pieces with a green dressing that was whoa soooo YUMMMM ! This is making me hungry now. Daughter said pozole was good too Of course we will be back !! Need to try to yellow curry ! Next couple times had to order some previously had dishes like Birria ramen, tacos, pozole and chicken salad. Eduardo also accommodated my grandson, as he loves chicken but we get him grilled chicken. So he made a kids version of the chicken salad and it was just perfect and delicious too. PS good spot for kids too. They have a Foosball table ! So when they get antsy, they can go play! Kids love it and play every time. Great thinking! Thank you for this addition to your restaurant ! It's a plus for us with little ones because it helps with their impatience. This is GOLD !! Thank you Eduardo and Kiren ! We will be back next time we're looking for yummy Mexican food or are nearby. Have you tried ? Let me know if you stop by. I'd love to know what was your favorite dish. Happy eating & happy Yelping ! SYOY or IG ;) PS Support small family owned pro American businesses. I took my mom here for a Mother's Day brunch and my birthday celebration because it falls around…read morethe same time every year. I am so glad we chose Hide Out Cafe in Rowland Heights to have our celebration. The food is delicious, the staff is so friendly, and the cafe is so cozy and welcoming. My brother was sponsoring our meal since he couldn't make it, so of course we had to go all out and order two drinks and two main dishes. (Thank you, big brother)! I got the Boba Bear Set $8.50, which comes with a drink and two house-made cookies, and my mom got their Tiramisu Latte $7.00, which is heavy on the coffee liquor, to be honest, but we had fun with it. The drinks are crafted beautifully, and with the open cafe concept, you can see they pay attention to the small details of their crafted drink menu. The house-made cookies that were a part of my Boba Bear Set are not to be forgotten. The cookies are buttery, decadent, and delicious; they are the perfect tea cookies to pair with! I can't wait to go back and try more of their fun drinks and maybe bring a study book the next time. For our main dishes, we shared the Chimi Wagyu & Frites $35.00, and the Fresh Avocado Toast $19.00. We both love eggs so of course we had to get something with eggs in our dish. My mom loved her avocado toast, and they were very generous with the avocado as well on there. The salad is a definite hit with us and included a great dressing on the side. The eggs were cooked perfectly on top of our toast and steak. The frites with my steak were crispy and seasoned well. I also loved the chimi sauce with my steak as well. The portion was huge so we were able to take some back home to enjoy another day. Overall, my mom and I had a great experience and would absolutely come back for another sip of their lattes and try another fun drink on their menu. We left with happy smiles and full stomachs, and can't wait to come back soon.

It's a brown sugar milk tea with caramel foam with a floating frozen milk tea bear. ADORABLE!! The set even includes two house-made cookies. WOW! TASTY!! (Important: Cash is not accepted. Bring card or contactless payment.) I arrived at Hide Out Cafe (Rowland Heights) on Wednesday (around 10:21AM). Parking is very easy. The lot is big. However, Hide Out Cafe (Rowland Heights) is very hidden. It has no visibility from the street! Staff is very professional and welcoming. Staff politely and cheerfully answered all my questions. Staff is very knowledgeable and accommodating. For example, the location does not have a paper menu; all the menus are accessed via QR Code. Fortunately, Staff let me borrow their iPad which allowed me to see the menu on a larger screen. When I'd arrived, Staff asked if I was dine-in or to-go. I was immediately seated. When I'd inquired about the boba. Staff honestly told me that they needed 15 additional minutes to prepare the boba. I brightly waited. All in all, after the 15 minute wait, the drink took an additional 10 minutes before being ready. As mentioned, I ordered the Boba Bear Set ($8.50). CUTE!!! It's a very aesthetic and memorable presentation. The boba pearls came perfect; they're bouncy, perky, and playful. The brown sugar milk tea mixed with the caramel foam tasted honey-like. It's very TASTY! My biggest nitpick is that the amount felt tiny. Still, it's a wonderful memory that I'm so happy to experience! On ambiance, Hide Out Cafe (Rowland Heights) is comfortable and clean. There's about 13 interior tables, and there's six patio tables. The music is slow-tempo, and the tall ceiling made it feel spacious. In addition, Hide Out Cafe (Rowland Heights) has utility. There's customer internet with password; details are available on the QR code menu. There's also about four electrical outlets. I also appreciated the self-service water station. There's also a gender neutral restroom in the back. Hide Out Cafe (Rowland Heights) felt very hidden yet well-maintained. It's a lovely spot. Overall, I had a magical, memorable experience. I discovered AMAZING milk tea and many precious memories. If searching for someplace special, I happily recommend. 4.9 out of 5

Long overdue review for Tai Ping Sa Choi Kee. We used to dine at their Rowland Heights location…read moreyears ago and recently rediscovered them in Hacienda Heights. Since then, it's become one of our regular spots when we're craving certain dishes that are hard to find done this well. It's easily become one of our favorite restaurants in the area. Our repeat favorites: beef with black bean sauce (off-menu), shredded chicken (seasoned well), crispy fish with spicy salt (crispy with a kick), typhoon pork ribs (put the seasoned crumbs on your rice - yum!), chinese broccoli with dried fish (love the stems), shrimp cakes (crispy exterior bouncy inside) and beef chow fun (tender beef and abundant noodles). Their fried dishes are light, not greasy and leftovers re-crisp in the air fryer. Their lemon tea is refreshing and comes with 1 refill. If I had to recommend just 1 dish to try it would be the shredded chicken or the typhoon pork ribs (or fish if you prefer). Or just ask the ladies for suggestions and they'll lead you the right way. Decor is clean and simple. Service is always friendly, and the food comes out fast, hot, and consistently satisfying.

We were on our way to Hsi Lai Temple but wanted some food before our visit. We stopped by TPSCK…read morebecause we loved it the first time and know that they have soft food I can eat because of my dental work. We ordered a bowl of rice noodles beef soup, fish filet with corn sauce and the scrambled egg with shrimp. We told the lady taking our server that I just got teeth done and could only eat soft foods. She said she'll ask the kitchen to drown the fish fillets in the gravy so it can be soft for me to eat. How sweet of her. Everything tasted amazing like always and the ladies were always so nice to us. Are they nice to each other? Maybe not, but maybe it's tough love.
