I chose this place for the free clams on your birthday so that is a nice perk. You seat yourselves so there was no wait for a table. Our waitress was pleasant but we did have to track her down after a long wait to pay our bill. My son and I both got the French onion soup and yuck. The onions were cut very large and were hard, as in not cooked down at all. My son also had a chefs salad which he enjoyed. My other son got a burger which appeared to be a frozen preformed patty. My husband got the fish and chips and also didn't like the fish. I did enjoy my birthday clams. But based on the yucky burger, fish and soup, gross men's room (per my husband) and fairly slow service, I would not return. read more

Standard, good pub fare. I recently saw a picture of some good looking wings from here. As an amateur wing connoisseur, I had to try them. Also heard they had bangin' blue cheese, yes please! I came here around 5pm and it was not very busy. There were a couple tables besides ours, and a half full bar. However, it seemed there was only the bartender and one waitress for the whole place. Service was very slow, we actually saw a couple sit for 5-10 minutes, and left because no one came to serve. meh. The draft/beer list was good, they had some good sounding cocktails, as well as a few wines. I stuck to Boom Sauce, although there were others I would have loved to try. Both glasses of beer I ordered though seemed to be missing the top inch of beer. Bad pour. My veggie friend and I are always on the search for fried vegetables. We spotted fried green beans and it was a no brainer. They came out warm, but not burn your mouth hot, which was perfect. They were cooked perfectly and super delicious. The sauce they were served with was super rich and the perfect pairing. On to the main event, wings! They were good! I really wanted to try two sauces, medium (standard in which to compare all wings) and the lemon pepper. They wouldn't split the order so I stuck with Medium. It was 12, pretty wings. Nicely sauced, fresh wings. I could tell by the cuts they were fresh, and there was still a small bit of breast meat on them. Overall they were good. I think the skin itself could have been crispier, but the meat was a little dry, so asking for extra crispy would have made that worst. They were definitely not as juicy and tender as they could have been. The sauce was very standard and good, a bit of heat. All in all, these are good, pretty standard wings. The real star here is the blue cheese. That stuff could be eaten with a fork. Delicious, house made. The blue cheese alone makes it worth getting the wings. My dining partners enjoyed their meals! One ordered the pulled pork quesadilla. She enjoyed the addition of onions to it. My veggie friend ordered their spinach artichoke grilled cheese and "it totally changed the grilled cheese game". Well worth skipping. Our party of five stopped in at 4:00 on a Saturday. The sign at the front directed us to seat ourselves, which meant we had to decide between one of the uncleared and dirty tables or one that only sat four of us. Eventually the waitress came by for our drink order, and fifteen minutes later she brought them out. I can't imagine how long it would have taken to get drinks if we had ordered something other than Diet Cokes. After another 45 minutes our meals came out. We ordered standard pub fare off the overly-sticky and nasty menus- a quesadilla, a couple wraps, boneless wings and a taco salad. Nothing that should have been a challenge for the kitchen. Still, the food was lukewarm at best, and we let the waitress know we were missing an order of fries. The fries appeared at the end of the meal, but at least they were hot! The taco salad can be ordered with a taco bowl, and the menu presents this option with a "add $2" notation. When we told the waitress we didn't want or order it with the taco bowl, she said "I'll take it off the bill, but next time you have to specify that you don't want it because we automatically add it." Did she honestly think we'd be back? A note on the table states that they charge a "mandatory 18% gratuity" because of how hard the waitstaff work. Unfortunately, it seems as if the mandatory charge lends to laziness, inattentiveness, and complacency. They won't split checks (perhaps it's too difficult for the waitstaff to do correctly?) but they will accept multiple payment options. Aside from the deep-fried swath of grease-dripping cardboard that they pass off as a taco bowl (make sure you specify that you don't want it or you'll be charged for it!), the food wasn't inedible. Still, you'd be just as well off picking something off the roller grill at a convenience store. read more

I went for a live show by a band called Yellowdog. They played a mix of grunge and classic rock for anyone that's interested. The space is decent though as a venue it's tricky because there's a barrier between the bar and the stage and not a ton of seating. You can see over the barrier but you have to turn your bar chair 180 and then your beer and stuff are behind you so... Meh. Food wise I tried the recommended lemon pepper wings and a dip trio. The wings were more of a dry rub and salty than saucy and lemony and I didn't personally care for them. The dipping trio was a good way to see which sauces were the best there. My favorite was their buffalo dipping sauce while the other two were not so memorable. I would definitely try something with more of that creamy buffalo dipping sauce if they made it though. It wasn't exactly straight buffalo sauce and had a nice thick creamy texture. The boomsauce IPA was excellent and I recommend it. This is a ok pub. Go for a show, have some boomsauce, and if the sodium in their wings makes you sick, Albany memorial is right across the street. read more

Came here on a last minute lunch date and were able to pick a table to sit at immediately when we walked in. I ordered a Rodeo burger and subbed a vegan Beyond meat patty. We came for trivia night. I arrived a little bit after the rest of my group because I was coming from work. I waited at the table for probably 20 minutes and the waitress never came over. I went to the bar to try and order my food and drink. The bar tender told me to wait at my table and someone would come over soon. A while later she came and said "do you need something?" It took over 40 minutes to get my food. The food was good at least. In 2 hours there she came over once to check on us. Then we get the bill and 20% tip was added on because there were 6 of us. I'm sick of getting crappy service and being expected to tip 20% when the waitress didn't even pay attention to us. Automatic gratuity is a scam and promotes mediocre service at best. read more

Spouse ordered the steak frites which is served on a military mess tray with brown gravy for fries! Haven't had that since drunk diner days! Came to Ship's after the CDPHP workforce walkable event in downtown Albany. Chose a place away from the marked out path with the thought of crowded restaurants in mind. There were tables available but no guidance if we were to sit ourselves or wait for a host. Drink order took longer than normal but with no hesitation we asked to place a food order as well considering she was already helping. The girl said unfortunately we had to wait for the other staff member. After watching the waitress walk around to every other table and collect food orders finally the order was in. We waited over an hour and a half for food, being the last in the restaurant close to 10pm to be served. The Reuben was inedible as it looked like fried bologna not even melted or with any sort of dressing on it. My chicken sandwich had a long blonde curly hair imbedded in the chicken breading itself. A co worker sat around the table as everyone else had their dishes and was asked 3 separate occasions what she ordered so they could go back and look for it. Came out different than what she initially asked for so had to wait for the second part since the first round was burnt. I understand they were not prepared for this type of business but in excusable by any means. Don't worry 18% gratuity is added to every single check regardless of the table setting. Everyone told me the burgers were great, and the blue cheese bacon burger, the 'Drunkened Sailor' I think it's called on the menu, was the best I've had, with the perfectly sized bun and great seasoned hand formed beef. Had the chili, not too spicy although it smelled hotter than it was, and the wings, with an awesome sauce. Service was fast and exceptional, even during the comedy sessions. I love Ship's Pubs food. That being said, today was an incident in my top 5 of horrible service and utter disrespect I've ever seen in a restaurant. Firstly, I ordered through Mealeo, a 3rd party vendor. An item was left off. I ran out to the driver who said call the restaurant. When I called Ship's, and asked, Kristin immediately went into a rant about how i needed to call Mealeo. After she was done interrupting me every half a second, we finally got to the point where I just asked, well what happened, who messed this up, you or Mealeo? Her response was, 'The whole world'. To which I responded, does that include you? To which she responded, 'Let's say, the whole country'. Like are you serious? On a food missing call that they messed up? I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The whole country comment sounded almost political! I live reasonably close, so I asked what if I come down, some how I was able to get those 5 words in, I said 'if I come down, can you hook me up with something?' Like a side or app or something for driving there to pick up my delivery order? She said ya, we will give you a free Buffalo chicken dip, which is what was missing, that we had already paid for. Topped off all that disrespect with a home run of sarcasm. My jaw dropped at how incredibly bad Kristin's communication skills were. Like I said, I love their food, I've order the Chicken Caesar wrap, like 10+ times (that is what I had ordered this time). I was telling my wife before we ordered how I was excited to try their patio this year. I came here last night. After spending the night at a Christmas party in Albany with my closest family and friends, I stopped here for a nightcap. Our family has been coming here for years and we had considered it (until last night) to be a safe, fun, neighborhood place. I was WRONG. A waitress/bartender (?) who claimed to have just ended her shift for the night stole my purse. She walked straight into the back room with it, and when I followed her into the back room to get it, and she got very defensive, saying "she thought it was hers." As an employee of the bar, would you leave your purse/belongings out at a table? Isn't there a back room where employees leave their stuff? I had lots of questions. I demanded to see her purse, as she claims it was similar to mine. They were actually different colors and sizes, and there was no way you could confused the two. I asked to speak with the manager/supervisor there to no avail. And to top it off, when we went to redeem our 2015 Entertainment coupon, they wouldn't honor it ...stating, "We didn't pay to participate in that coupon book this year. They just listed us." I came here with five girlfriends on a Saturday night. The waitress was kind and attentive. She split the check for us five ways without us having to ask. Three of us got burgers. Everyone really liked them. It was pretty hard to get it all in one bite though as the patty was so thick but the flavor was good, especially the bun. I just prefer a thinner burger. Fries were good, as were the drinks. Also, great news this place is really affordable. Dinner and a cocktail was $24 with tip (for just me.. not all the girls). Went a few weeks back with my boyfriend for dinner. Sat outside... inside is very dark, or so it seemed. Patio area was nice, but we were seated next to four obnoxiously loud men drinking, which was kind of irritating, but it is a bar. Basic pub food. Boyfriend and I shared one of the nacho dishes, which was pretty good. Be sure to ask for corn chips for nachos if that's what you want, the waitress told us it usually comes served on Doritos (ew). I got a buffalo chicken wrap...generic, but not bad. Came with sweet potato fries, unfortunately a pretty small portion. Boyfriend had a burger with fries, no complaints there. We kept having different people come out and take our order, bring our food, our drinks, etc. which seemed kind of strange to me, and it made the service a little slow. Also, we had a groupon which did not include alcoholic drinks. When we got our check with it, they still charged us for sodas (even though they should have counted for the groupon). One star only because I had to. Have heard the food was pretty good, but I'll never know. Went with a party of five on a Sunday evening and all ordered pub chow. After taking our orders the server went MIA for about an hour. My wife finally went to check when we might expect to be fed and was told it shouldn't be too much longer, but we had a bunch of grubhub orders to get out. Wrong answer! If the cook fell head first into the deep fryer, or they had to slaughter a cow for fresh burger, well okay, but otherwise waiting over an hour for pub chow is unacceptable. I have come here a few times in the past month during a lunch break and have had decent experiences every time. Each time we have gone we have had the same waiter as he must be their weekday lunch time server - he definitely does work and is very friendly - he seems to be the only waiter most times so service can get slow if they are busy. Each time I have gone I have tried a different one of their burgers. The first one I tried was the Monkey Fist - which has been the best of my burger-ventures there. The Monkey Fist has 3 cheeses - American, Swiss and Cheddar, the typical fixings of lettuce, tomato, onion - but here comes the good stuff - sauteed onions, bacon, mushrooms and fried egg to boot - this thing is huge, its juicy, its delicious! I think their burgers typically come with chips - I upgrade to waffle fries cause their waffle fries are crisp and crunchy, and fried to delicious perfection. My 2nd burger outing was the Marinated Balsamic burger - this was alright - it has pesto, tomato and fresh mozz (the fresh mozz is really why I ordered this) - the pesto could have been more flavorful - really the tomato and mozz overpowered it and instead tasted like just a caprese salad-esque burger. My latest venture with them was the Pinta Burger - its a tex-mex style burger with jalapenos and pepper-jack cheese - again could have been a little better. When you tell me tex-mex flavors - I expect big, bold flavors - especially when theirs jalapeno on it - and it was lacking the big and bold, and was a bit more mild. Maybe mine just wasn't seasoned enough - who knows. Neither the balsamic or the Pinta were bad burgers - they just didn't live up to the monstrosity that was the Monkey Fist - perhaps I shouldn't have started with what clearly read as the best burger first! If you order smart here you can easily eat something delicious - but be a bit more selective. Don't just order a chicken quesadilla cause you don't want to go out of the box - they have some really interesting options here - like their sesame coriander tuna - beautiful presentation and delicious flavor. read more
