Had my first Shipley do-nut and I had to admit, I'm a fan. It's simple perfection at it's finest. No sprinkles, no chocolate, no jelly-filling in the middle. Just sweet, round, fried and glazed perfection. If you're not looking for all the frills, bells and whistles and just simply want a soft, warm, sugary treat, a Shipley do-nut will do the trick. I would have also tried a kolache, as I was told this is a Houston staple. Unfortunately, the wait time for them to be ready was too long. I have always been a fan of Shipley's Donuts! This donut shop located by the Southwest Freeway near Murphy Road makes donuts the "CRUNCHY" way, which is sooooooo scrumptious!! I don't know exactly what the crunchy stuff is made of, but it is just so yummy! My favorite is the apple-filled, which tastes like a Dutch apple pie, crunchy (strudel-like) on the outside and warm and soft with sweet apple filling inside! everytime I come here,no fresh donuts, always missing something like where are tha blue sprinkles donuts? one time I walked in the store a fly touched on almost every donut ,even after the aggravated no greeter,depressing owner of Middleastern accent walked in without a smile to reboot the cash machines reported , both owner and service clerk saw but never apologized about the fly nor did they took the time to get rid of the bug leaving parasites,bacterias not to mention laying eggs on those donuts. So I stopped by Shipleys on my way home from work this morning at roughly 3:30 AM and I noticed that they were open so I went to the drive-through and told the gentleman in the drive-through I wanted two glazed donuts and he responded "we don't have any glazed donuts" so I asked what do you have and he responded "we don't have any donuts which I thought was odd because a donut shop that's open that has no donuts probably shouldn't be open so I exited the drive thru and looked back inside through the front door only to see countless trays of donuts of all varieties that he said he did not have. He did not have anything to sell me yet he had roughly 20+ trays of donuts that he could've sold. Antonio the manager lost his noodles the way he spoke to me when I was trying to ask him about why his workers weren't helping anybody inside, but all the drive thru people. There is no reason for a manager to curse at a customer when you're talking to them with no sort of tone. He said "I'm fucking short staffed" sir who are you talking to? This review is long overdue. On April 19, 2018, I purchased doughnuts at this location. After walking into the establishment, I noticed an female employee sitting down near the drive-thru window talking on her cell phone. After noticing me, she continued her conversation for approximately a minute then walked over to the counter to assist me. I don't remember if she greeted me or not. I noticed that she did not wash her hands prior to taking my order. I politely asked her to wash her hands before handling my food. She stated that she wasn't going to touch the doughnuts with her hands and she pointed to the tissue paper that she was going to use. I told her that our cell phones carry a lot of germs and I requested that she wash her hands. She rolled her eyes and walked toward the back. Honestly, I should have left without making a purchase. Instead, I watched her and made a mental note that I did not hear running water. She returned to the counter with hand sanitizer (she used it), then she put on gloves and proceeded to get the doughnuts that I wanted. She gave me my total and I handed her my card. Instead of placing my card in my hand (my hand was extended) after she swiped it, she placed it on the counter. She hurriedly walked off to get back to her phone. I asked for her name and she said, "Maria" without coming back to the counter. I asked for her manager's name and she said, "There are a lot of managers". I informed her that her attitude was unnecessary and stated that I wanted her manager's name because she was rude. Also, I explained to her that handling food without clean hands is unsanitary. She ignored me. After repeatedly asking her for the manager's name, she spat out "Juan!" I walked out on Maria and her horrible attitude. I will never patronize this establishment again because the employees are a reflection of the owner/franchisee. NOTE: I was able to recall the incident exactly in the manner that it happened because I typed a note in my iPhone immediately after I got in my car. read more

Shipley's is THE place for donuts in Houston. It's been that way for years, and probably always will be. I realllly like early mornings when the donuts are still hot, and the glaze is almost running off the donut and down your hand... Man that's some good stuff. They have multiple types of donuts, and since we have these often at the office, I've never heard one bad thing about ANYTHING from here. The kolaches are great. Jalapeno and cheese? Even better. Have one and a chocolate milk. You'll thank me. Parking is tight here, and they're usually busy, but quick in the mornings. Oh, and this place has a drive through. Shipley's is THE place to get donuts in Houston. This particular location is quite convenient, as it's right off the freeway, so you can get your sugar high and be back on your way. I'm a boring donut eater- I hardly venture away from chocolate iced donuts, but they are fresh and yummy and satisfy my random cravings. There's a good amount to choose from here- iced/glazed/filled donuts in a variety of flavors, kolaches, rolls, milk, juice, coffee... Mornings are super packed, but I've never had an issue with rude servers as per other reviewers. Sure, they're in a hurry- but who can blame them with the constant traffic in and out? There is a drive-thru, which is more of a nuisance than anything else since it's so narrow and tiny; just park your car and walk in. read more

I'm surprised at the lackluster rating this place gets. This is the closest location to my parents home and I've practically grown up on the donuts from this location. It's always fresh, everyday even if you miss the morning rush. It's open 24 hours, so I can get my fix at any time. Sure, as the day go goes on you run the risk of getting not so fresh items. I can deal with that. If you're lucky enough, you'll have a very attentive person behind the counter who will warm up the donuts for you late in the evening. I dare you to find another Shipley location that serves cinnamon twists as large as the ones you can buy from here. My favorite location! read more

Terrible customer service. I would say train your employees, but it seems you guys have the worst employee running this place. (Lady who is incapable of a warm hello, thank you, or smile. Death stare) Hire someone who can lead by example. I think you have a turn around of employees because of her. Earlier today, my card was declined at the drive through window. (Didn't check my account before I left, needed to transfer funds. Anyways, I had cash.) So, card is declined and the lady comes to the window and is telling me there is no money on the card. So, I try to hand her the cash and there is a commotion at the register. Lady death stare is berating the window employee for something, and employee again turns to me and says you have no money... I was like ok. Try to hand her cash and she again, still holding my card says, "you have no money." I take my card and hand her the cash and there is still conversation happening at the register. I am confused at this point because, I have now paid for the items in cash, but nobody is handing me my items. The employee, again, turns to tell me that lady death stare needs to refund money because a partial amount was withdrawn because I have no money. At this point, I was done being told, "I have no money," which I know is a language barrier thing, but after hearing it so many times, I said, "I don't know what you're talking about, which is why I just paid you cash, can you just give me my food?" (I truly had no idea that there were not any funds on the card. Regardless, it wasn't like I argued with her about it at any point) Lady death stare then proceeds to again, berate her employee and me by waving her hands as if to shoo me away. Someone finally gives me my food and I drive away. All of this because a card was declined? If there was another location somewhere reasonably close, I would never come back to this place. I have read some other reviews and yes, their food quality has definitely declined. Burned kolaches, cold kolaches, poor packaging. I often go into this establishment but this morning I was disappointed. It's 5:40 in the morning and I walk in and there was only 1 cashier who was having a lengthy conversation with two women while 4 customers waiting for service. As I waited I noticed two women in the back loading donuts onto a tray to display. One of the women was not wearing gloves as she held donuts between her fingers. As I continued to wait I ask the drive-thru cashier if she could get someone to help us at the front. She completely ignored me. Two people left the store without being serviced. As I continued to watch the only cashier discuss with the two women she had been servicing about who they knew and who did hair. When the one gentleman finally made it to the register he was spoken to rudely about needing change or he would not receive change back and the sign was on the door. Went in at 6:50 this morning before taking my kids to school and heading to work. Ordered blueberry glaze donut and 4 kolaches. My daughter bit into the donut and it was raw. Went back and got a blueberry cake and that one was also raw. Antonio the manager replaced it with 2 glaze. I'm my way to work and the kolache was very spicy. I called to speak to Antonio(the manager) to inform him I was very unhappy and he said so bring back all that you purchased with your receipt and he would refund me. I informed him I was on the way to work and wouldn't be available to return soon. He then stated I could go back tomorrow but I would have to have all the items I bought and my receipt in order to get any kind of refund. He has a new employee and he needs to prove to him that he is not doing a good job. Now that is ridiculous that I have to hold on to Do-Nuts and Kolaches until tomorrow.
