Great food and the staff was super friendly and patient (we were seated after 9 pm!). The food was delicious. I ordered the halibut special and it was delicious. ONE WORD: DELICIOUS Three of us sat outdoors over this past Memorial Day weekend. The female waitress(she had gorgeous blue eyes) was fantastic, typically when I sit outdoors and no other parties are there the service lacks but not the case here. Service was a 10/10. Food and atmosphere great. There is a take out fish market and small dining room w about 8 tables/booths. We arrived for lunch on a Wed about 12:45. Mom has a walker. There r 1 step to enter into restaurant. It was challenging to get around. Bathroom is accessible from outside of restaurant and there was an incline outside door w a step inside. Mom loved the food and restaurant part was nice. My food was good too. The access for people w wheelchairs or walkers or those w baby strollers is tight. I'll keep this one short and sweet. The best jumbo lump crab cakes on LBI can be found here, or at one of the sister restos (Mud City or Black Whale). That's all you need to know if you don't have the time or inclination to read any further. Every time the hub and I visit LBI, we get this crab cake more than once, sometimes in an entree for dinner, other times in a sandwich format for lunch. On this particular visit, which was during lunch time, we tried a new-to-us riff on the sandwich -- a signature jumbo lump crab cake topped with bacon and avocado and, boy, was it good! Typically, we get the simpler one where there's only lettuce and tomato atop the seafood. The sandwich comes with tartar sauce, but we ask for cocktail sauce instead as it's our preferred pairing for crab. The sandwich comes with coleslaw or fries. Get the latter, as they are really good/worth the calories. The dining area itself is rather small, so come prepared for a wait. Bring a book and a bottle of wine and sit on the benches out front. The parking lot is also small, so your best bet is parking on the street. There is a fish market area at the front of the resto where you can buy fresh seafood to prepare at home. read more

We dine here once a year on my birthday while visiting LBI and my only regret is that we don't get there more often. We went on a Monday night at about 5:45 mid-July. Party of 5, 35 min wait. We sat on the front porch area, enjoying the sea breeze and one of the cocktails we brought. (Truly, my only negative comment is that I wish they would mark off one side for seating, and one side for counter service, so there would be less jockeying for position - it's awkward for the people sitting at the counter, awkward for those of us, sitting behind them, waiting and most importantly, challenging for the servers - after I posted this I read my last review and it said the same thing about changing the waiting area ) 4 of us started w soup - the seafood bisque and New England clam chowders. Terrific! Well, seasoned and plenty of seafood. For dinner,2 had the baked seafood platter, I had a special, another had fish and chips, and the last had Caesar salad. Not one complaint from anyone. Even my teenage son was stuffed after eating the seafood platter. All in all , Ship Bottom Shellfish was as excellent as we remembered from last year!! read more

The last two times we have been there we have had mixed results. Some items are terrific and others have been bad. The last meal involved fresh mussels which were mushy and sandy. To their credit they did not charge us for that item. On the other hand the calamari was fantastic. We have gone many times over the years and it hits more than misses but the recent visits are less than encouraging. read more

Being so close to the ocean, my friends and I knew we wanted to get lobster and Ship Bottom Shellfish did not disappoint!! They converted their parking lot into an outdoor seating area with picnic tables to accommodate for coronavirus. The staff was friendly and the lobster was delicious! Have been here twice. On both occasions I think my wife and I reached the same conclusion: portions are on the small side (to the point where you wish you had more), but what you DO get is prepared very well. All COVID-19 precautions were taken. Well- organized curbside pick- up system if that's what makes you comfortable. We ordered the Blackened Soft Shell Crabs (2) with onion rings and side salad. Amazing amazing seafood! We saw a sign for tuna poke and had to try it, and it was amaaaazing. Got the tuna poke, seared tuna, tuna wrap, fish tacos, and salad with jumbo shrimp. Wish there was more tuna in the poke, since it was so fresh and good. the wonton chips & the glaze- to die for! Unfortunately the staff wasn't very inviting or helpful in selecting gluten free items--since my mom is allergic. Just irritated me a little since allergies are important...especially in a restaurant! Other than that everything was great! Definitely worth a try if you love tuna as we do! read more

It's difficult to get a table here, because there is limited seating, so you could wait multiple hours to be seated in the Summer, and in fact we had to wait for almost an hour even though we went on a Thursday in mid-September. But of course, there is a reason people are willing to wait: the food is very good, and the fish is always very fresh. The presentation is not the most polished (have to say I was surprised when they served my side baked potato in aluminum foil) but don't be fooled, this is an LBI staple and a good dining experience. read more

Small but well worth it. I started with a dozen Delaware Bay oysters on the half shell and finished with crispy octopus. Wife had roasted clams and finished with fish tacos. Nice kid waitress but abysmal food at premium prices. $31 for a piece of fish and french fries. Dry cole slaw that was probably made the week before. Inedible calamari that we had to send back. All from a plastic covered menu that hadn't been wiped off all summer. Typically for LBI, they were super busy! Excellent seafood, great for take out too. Crab cakes are by far the best crab cakes on the island and arguably any where. I recommend the specials and love the linguini and clams. Would love to be able to comment on how good or even bad their food was. However my wife and I stopped by for lunch and walked inside. We stood there for 10 minutes while not a single worker greeted us or acknowledged us. So we thought maybe we'll sit on the patio here. Another 10 minutes, nothing. So we ended up leaving. Great place. It's my husband's and my default fresh seafood restaurant on the island. We prefer to go before season starts and after it ends. In the middle of the season - well, it gets busy, and this lady gets impatient and cranky. I'm not a people-with-screaming-children kinda person. Obviously it's not the fault of the establishment - just the season and the visiting crowd... It can be harsh (specifically thinking of our last lunch visit 4th July weekend). The summer season has of course a few upsides: the food is super fresh and there's no better place to eat it than on an island in the summer. We come for the seafood, and seafood only. From mussels, clams, to oysters - no fuss there - the simpler the better. Husband loves the chowder, crab cakes are delish and so is the mango salsa, the flounder, and the local scallops. Portions are good, prices are reasonable, place is clean, parking can be tricky - but so worth the visit for lunch/dinner if you are in other parts of LBI. read more
