We come to Boulevard Clams every year for clams to cook on the grill and every couple years for a meal. We stopped in here last night, luckily kind of early because by the time we left they were packed. I've always loved this place for their clams...always amazing and fresh. I will say that their wait in menu is a bit pricey, but you're paying LBI prices so just expect it. We had a party of five last night and the food was delicious. Wifey had a fried flounder sandwich that was too much for her (so I got about 1/3 of her filet!), but she loved it. I had the premium crab cakes and started with a dozen little necks. The little necks were really small so I was a little disappointed in the serving size, but the crab cakes with fries and 1/2 a corn on the cob filled me up. My son and daughter's boyfriend both had salmon and my daughter had garlic Parmesan shrimp and pasta. Always a delicious meal! read more

I had the most amazing out of body moment eating the steamers here today. As a kid my grandparents lived in New Suffolk way east on the North fork of Long Island and we used to go in the morning and get the steamer clams off bay for dinner. We could eat literally more than a couple of dozen each for dinner. Nothing was fresher. Today I had steamer clams here that brought me right back to grandma's table! They were so incredibly tender (stems and all), sweet and fresh. For anyone who is not a fan, I can't describe them. For anyone who is, I implore you --- take a ride and eat those steamer clams. They come in a bucket to go. But they will make you a third for an order to eat in. I had two orders. I could have eaten 3! With the melted butter and the broth for dipping it was sheer heaven. This was the next stop on the Nj.com 35 Old School Restaurants list. It's only open during the summer months, and we finally made the drive down today. It was very worth it. I had delicious New England clam chowder to start. It was incredibly fresh so the taste of the clams shined through. I had the clams casino after that, and it too was tasty and made so well. Fish market on one side, half a dozen tables on the other. It's not fancy but the food is FRESH and delicious. Service quick and super friendly. Lots of delicious choices for dine in but I was craving a lobster roll. The lobster roll is the classic Connecticut-style prep - lobster hot, toasted roll and plenty of melted butter. The lobster is super fresh, nice and sweet and a big portion. Exactly what lobster roll is supposed to be! Be warned - it ain't cheap. But lobster is expensive. And this place is GOOD. read more

Got charged $30 for a single clam roll. They justified the cost by saying they were whole- belly clams and had to be shipped in, but that's still excessive. If it had been an exceptional clam roll I might have been ok with it, but they were fried all to hell so you could barely taste them; it was like eating bread on bread. Wouldn't return here. I came in for chowder and I ordered from the fish counter then went to go sit at the table. There was NO ONE sitting at any of these tables. They brought out my soup to us sitting there and then the nasty waitress told me that I couldn't sit there because it's "service only". I would have happily offered a tip but she was so rude I didn't even want to stay so I asked "okay where can we sit?" To which she just repeated herself "this is service only" YES I GET THAT. We sat outside on the benches in the heat. All she had to say was "sorry, there are benches outside and I can give you some napkins." The chowder itself was mediocre. I have to say... I wanted so bad for this to be better and had high hopes. I'm from New England so I'm picky about whole belly clams. While I was excited to see them in nj, they were just ok & very small portions. Not the best I had. Lobster bisque was over 10.00 and it had minced lobster. No chunks. My son's clam strips had no taste & were overcooked. It wasn't bad. But it wasn't good & two clam dinners & a lobster bisque. 100.00. I don't mind spending that, but I expect a little better. Tiny amount of tarter included as well. I won't be back. They weren't awful but I don't want to see anyone who knows what good sea food should taste for the cost and get excited like I did... customer service was good. read more

Excellent clam chowder, both the New England and the Manhattan! Lots of clams and very flavorful without being too much. We did takeout, ordered online and it was ready exactly when they said it'd be, so very efficient. Been coming here for years. I usually buy seafood to take home and cook it myself. Maybe will grab some fresh oysters with their own horseradish, spicy while waiting. I have eaten in many times, but mostly for lunch, and often the crabs.. There are some reviews that are critical of price. I guess I watch prices, but when you are at the beach in the summer there is an expectation that it is not going to be the cheapest place around. Go and expect to get some fresh seafood, it is the summer so plan accordingly. Go get it. read more

We usually drive right past Boulevard Clams because they don't have a restaurant but this year given the pandemic, we gave curbside pickup a try and were immediately sold. I got the lobster roll which was fantastic and they give such large portions! The roll was so good that we went back the next two nights after. Other members of my group got the shrimp and scallops scampi and the crab cake sandwich which were both tasty but by the third night, we all got lobster rolls. The lobster was cooked perfectly and paired with Cole slaw French fries and melted butter. Simple as it should be as lobster is the star of the show. I enjoyed the New England clam chowder, steamed little necks and a few local number 1 hard shells. Adding to the meal was the great and friendly service we received. The two waitresses working (and I feel bad I forgot to ask their names) couldn't have been more attentive or friendly. I also enjoyed chatting with the owner who was working hard the whole time. I took out from boulevard clams last night for the first time in about ten years, and it was just as great as I remembered it to be! I went with my family and we ordered 3 dozen steamers, 4 crab cakes, clam chowder, an order of dirty fries and garlic bread. The steamers were steamed little neck clams, and they came with a side of melted butter and clam broth (I believe). The clam broth was a unique touch considering I prefer healthy options, so that was right up my alley. The crab cakes were absolutely delicious, with huge lumps of crab meat and the wet ingredients it was mixed with was so tasty. It was very light on the bread crumbs portion of a typical crab cake. As I said before I like healthy options so I did not try the chowder, fries or garlic bread, but from the crowd I heard all were delicious but the dirty fries were absolutely amazing. Aside from this meal being $140, the seafood was very fresh and simply prepared and I plan on coming back for lunch sometime again this week. read more

tl;dr - Decent food, terrible service. A large party (6 adults, 3 kids) in a small place a few weekends after Labor Day...I get the challenges here from the staff's perspective, which is why I'm giving two stars and not one. That, and the food was good. But...our server was going for the snarky attitude that was supposed to be funny but ended up just coming off a bit rude. Especially when it came to items on the menu that they didn't have. (There were at least 5 of these.) We waited at least 45 minutes for our food. We watched literally every in the place get served, and every one had been seated AFTER us. No one bothered to give us an update or explain why our orders were taking so long, and when we asked--twice--there was no acknowledgement of the long wait time or apology. The ONLY saving grace was that the kids' food came out fast. Otherwise we may have had to leave. We'd had a good experience here this same weekend a few years back, so this experience was surprising. We found this place on a map of LBI while staying in Ship Bottom. So glad we went! We are from Maryland and usually don't order steamed crabs anywhere else. I did here. I liked that I could order only 4, since my husband had no desire to pick crabs. The crabs were hot, and meaty. Just so delicious. And I felt they were priced well too. My husband got the special of the day which was tortellini with summer vegetables and limp crab meat. They did NOT skimp on the crab. We've been visiting LBI for over 25 years and have eaten at a great many places over that time and this rates as one of our best experiences. The place is small, with a fresh seafood counter taking up half it real-estate inside but very clean and nicely air conditioned. They were happy to accommodate a special circumstance we had and our dining experience from service to food was outstanding. The clams on the half shell were delicious as was our mussels marinara,mako shark and chowders. It's a quiet,simple place with friendly,attentive staff and excellent food. I love Boulevard Clams for the local seafood experience. The last thing I want when I'm down the shore is a fancy eatin' restaurant. It's great that you can BYOB. This is not the place for you. But if you want really good local seafood without fancy sauces, or you want to pick some blue claws, that are fresh and delicious, w/out breaking the bank. You won't find better. We had steamed crabs. #1 size $3.15 each. We had the old bay style, (not old bay, they make their own seasoning that taste like old bay) We were delightfully surprised at how large they were. They couldn't have been better. We also had the garlic crabs. I wasn't a huge fan, but my husband liked them. We both agreed they would have been better with fresh garlic instead of the jarred already peeled garlic. We also had steamed local clams, yum. And shrimp cocktail. Both were delicious. We brought Yuengling beer with us. They brought over a tub of ice for us to keep it cool. Their outdoor sign advertised full-belly fried clams which is why I stopped there for a fried clam dinner. I had memories of my dinners in Maine, and I wanted that experience. Unfortunately, I was unhappy with what I eventually received. Tasty but puny clams with hardly any belly at all. Not too many in there either. Almost made me want to go back and complain. The hush puppies were good, and the mayo-based cole slaw was average. I was expecting a little more for my $19 meal, but I guess I'll have to go back to Maine. Someone while I was in the restaurant was coming away with a $200+ order, so someone thinks they're good! The one side is for takeout with refrigerators filled with various seafood. We drove there all the way from Philadelphia on June 7th, and it was totally worth the haul. We ordered a bunch of clam items: chowder, steamers (Ipswich), raw and fried whole belly. The raw clams were fresh and plump. I hadn't had whole belly clams since my last trip to Rhode Island, so needless to say, I was thrilled to find a place that served them. They didn't disappoint, and in fact, elicited moans of pleasure. They were perfectly coated and juicy. The chowder was delicious-not too thick, and full of the lovely bivalves. My only critique is of the steamers, which should have been accompanied by a small bowl of broth to wash the sand off. Lastly-and just as important as the culinary experience-we found the restaurant to be cozy, the service to be excellent, and the atmosphere very welcoming. All in all, a true gem of a find. Oh my lord if I could give this place 10 stars I would!!! We ended up going here twice during our vacation, we loved it that much. The hot and dirty crabs are fun and delicious to eat - if you've never had a whole crab, be brave and DO IT! you can ask for a demo, Jerry came out and showed us how to break down the crab and get to the goodness within! It is BYOB, but they bring out a good sized tub for your beer! They have takeaways of chowder, shrimp cocktails and other yummy goodies! But I have to say that our favorite was the people! Neil was a pleasure to talk to and gave us a great history of the restaurant. We are the type of people to find the salt of the earth places to eat and visit, and this place did not disappoint!!
