    Fried Pickle Spears
    Kristin C.

Disappointed by the Quality at a Place with a Big Reputation My husband and I stopped at The Chegg today during an impromptu beach trip to LBI. We've always known how popular this spot is--there's usually a line out the door. So when we walked in and were seated immediately, we were surprised. At first, we thought we just got lucky, but looking back, maybe it was a sign of what's changed. We started with the fried pickle spears, and I ordered the chicken taco salad bowl while my husband got the buffalo chicken salad bowl with grilled chicken and chipotle barbecue sauce. Our server asked if we wanted the pickles first, and we said yes--but within what felt like five minutes, everything came out at once. That might sound efficient, but it felt rushed, like our food had been waiting around in a queue instead of being made fresh. The fried pickles were okay, but clearly frozen--not freshly made in-house. My taco salad was served on a plate in a tortilla shell, which felt awkward and not very functional. I ended up flipping the shell over, breaking it into pieces, and mixing it into the salad. The greens were a mix of iceberg, spinach, and purple lettuce, but some of the iceberg pieces were chunky and could've been chopped more finely. And they definitely skimped on the chicken. My husband's salad had another issue entirely--the chicken was cold. Fully cooked, thankfully, but not warm at all. I noticed the same with mine. It gave us the impression that the chicken had been pre-cooked and stored, just portioned out when needed--not freshly grilled per order, which is disappointing, especially at a place with a reputation for quality. Honestly, this wasn't the experience I expected from The Chegg. We came in with higher expectations, hoping for hot, freshly prepared meals, and instead got something that felt more like fast casual at sit-down prices. And this place isn't exactly cheap--no pun intended. I really wanted to enjoy it, but sadly, it just didn't deliver.

The CHEG off season is a diner vibe. The service was really friendly. The salad was lacking in my opinion. This place is good for comfort food. My husband liked the buffalo chicken sandwich and clam chowder. I thought the clam chowder was a bit thick and starchy.

BEWARE - THE FRIES HAVE CHANGED, and NOT FOR THE BETTER!! Everything else was great as usual - service, wings, sauce, atmosphere, etc. Why would you change the best fries in the world? Literally went from delicious battered fries to below average diner fries that are barely salted. Very disappointing - please change it back!

We popped in here on a cold, rainy and windy Sunday morning in October. It is absolutely off season but even so, this place was a hit with both the wife and I and a place we'd be happy to bring the kids to if back in the area. When we got there, we were one of only two tables full. By the time we left, the main room was starting to fill up. I can see why. We ordered a jalapeño bagel egg sandwich and a hungry man egg platter. The food was very good and made even better with some of their "hot sauce" aka wing sauce which was a big hit for us. I'd recommend this place if you're in the area. Solid breakfast.

This is one of my favorite places ever. Living in Florida now, I definitely miss this. The fat chegg holds a special place in my heart. It's also in a really cute area of Beach Haven. All of their food is delicious and every time I go back to Jersey I have to stop here. We always walk from chegg to bird and Betty's. TikTok Reviewer: acaicaitlin

Really good food and service. I got the clam chowder and chicken wings. The menu is extensive!

It's been over a decade since I last had CHEGG and they're still so good. I heard they changed owners but the decor inside is the same - funny chicken themed. Love all the varieties of sauces. They can get busy but have a loudspeaker to call you if you're waiting outside (more places need this). Once seated, the service was incredibly fast. Everything was reasonably priced. $15 for a buffalo chicken wrap (with any sauce) and $1 for sweet potato fries. The Santos sauce is delicious with real garlic. Yum!

The Chegg is a go to spot when visiting LBI. I really like that breakfast options can be ordered all day (diner style) without the restaurant having a diner feel. The crabby omelette is to die for and so filling. I highly recommend giving it a try when it is on the specials menu. It is pricey but I honestly think worth the price tag. The boneless wings are also very filling and can even be shared between two people if opting to order a side of fries. We usually share the garlic pub fries, which come with a side of ranch. My husband usually purchases a bottle of santos sauce to take home, which is a nice option they offer. Wait times can be long so prepare for that. The restaurant has recently expanded their interior, which definitely helps. Once inside, the decor is also very fun. There is a lot to look at while waiting for food. Overall this LBI staple is worth a visit at least once.

We picked up a few different wings and they were just as delicious as always. I love going there in the off season because it's not packed and there's no wait, especially when getting it to go. We ordered a variety of wings, side sauces, corn nuggets - with a Thai chili sauce and onion rings - with a horse radish sauce. Their wings are so big I could only eat 3 of the 5. Can't wait to go back!

Food here is pretty good. The wings were delicious and I really did appreciate the omelette. The staff wasn't particularly friendly. We came in a large party and the first waiter that came seemed to have an attitude problem.

Great, fun place with plenty of seating. So happy to have been able to stop by and eat on our last day in LBI. Service was quick and friendly. The food was delicious!! Pierogi Omelette - creamy smooth mashed potatoes inside the omelette with red onions, bacon and cheddar cheese. A very unique item that was warm and comforting. Sausage Gravy over Biscuits - hands down one of the best I ever had. The biscuits are soft and fluffy, and the gravy is not too heavy. Hope to come back in the future!

I ordered 20 breaded mild wings. They were delicious, but I think I would go with the non breaded wings next time.

It's famous for a reason! The Buffalo chicken wrap is the best on the island. There are a lot of sauces to try.

Spaghetti Beach Haven was tasty but light on the protein. 3 shrimp and the crab was an ounce at most. Really enjoyed the garlic toast! Good selection of draft beer. The service was friendly while the food came out fast. For a starter, a dozen oysters were ordered. The oyster on the day I attended were from Chincoteague. They were extremely large and came out well chilled. These were tasty and appeared very fresh. For an entrée, I had the grilled swordfish. It came with an avocado shrimp salad and haricot verts. There was also an herb butter present on the fish. The piece of fish was on the smaller end but cooked ideally. The flavor was alright. The butter was tasted, but not enough seasoning was present on the fish. It tasted a little bland. The two sides also lacked in quantity. The avocado shrimp was also just decent. I also tried a crab cake, which was rather large. Again, this was not bad. Three more items I tried were scallop risotto, coconut rice and the old beach haven spaghetti. Yet again, all three were okay, but the spaghetti definitely was the preferred choice. The scallops were not cooked the best and was plain too as well as the coconut rice. Will I go back? Possibly.

Weather has been crappy here all week so we were able to get a table immediately. I love that it's BYOB here both to save a little money and to bring wine we know we're going to love. We were seated at the same table as last year (odd coincidence) and started looking over the menu when they brought over an ice bucket for our wine (a nice Italian rosé). For appetizers my daughter and I both got a bowl (you heard me, a bowl) of the best clam chowder I've had on the Island, the rest of the crowd had wedge salads or house salads. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the best clam chowder I've had here...not even close. This year I went with the seafood scampi special - shrimp, crab, and scallops over angel hair. Wifey had the stuffed shrimp special, my son had the salmon picatta, daughter had the shrimp pomodoro, and her fiancé had the grilled salmon. Five meals of perfection. Just the right serving size, excellent flavors, great service. Keep in mind they don't take reservations so on a normal night we would have waited. Also, limited parking so pay attention to the signs on the streets. This is a great place to eat, but it can get a little loud inside. 100% recommend! P.s. my son lost his ear buds here tonight, but when he called they had already found them and put them aside for him. We just stopped by on the way back from Bay Village and picked them up.
