We were looking for some seafood and came across this place , very cute and well put together , so this is how it went : Our waitress Ceyida ( hope o spelled that right )was AMAZING !!! She was so friendly and helpful and even tho they only have wine we were told we could go across the street to the liquor store and get beer . I must say I was a little disappointed, how does a nice seafood place like this doesn't have beer , cocktails or frozen drinks ? But we made it work with beer since it was simply way too hot for wine . The mussels bucket was really good and so was the garlic baked clams , they also have white corn that I could have eaten a dozen hahahaha !! We also ordered steak shrimp , cod fish and crabcake , it was well seasoned but there wasn't enough to be honest . The staff is awesome and the fish is very fresh, would definitely go back , but would be great if there were better outside seating and some frozen drinks . You should check it out . We were really looking forward to this meal, but it ended up being a disappointment. We spent over $170 on takeout for two entrées and a couple of appetizers, and the quality didn't match the price. The steamers were gritty with literal rocks in them, making them completely unenjoyable, and the buffalo calamari was soggy. The broiled seafood combo was tiny for what it cost with no flavor and the tuna steak was bland as well plus missing the sauce we ordered for it. For the amount we spent, we expected much better attention to quality and portion size, especially given the restaurant's reputation. Perhaps the experience is better when dining in, but based on this takeout order, we'll be holding onto our money and won't be returning to find out. read more

Wanted a bite to eat after an event , and this place had great reviews for seafood which is right up our alley! The staff greeted us they were nice , seated us quick. But after that we waited a long time for a server to come over. The server was very nice but not attentive at all, was on her phone and talking to other staff members a lot. We ordered two apps and an entree. We got the calamari , and mussels in garlic sauce. And stuffed shrimp for an entree . The service was extremely slow and took over 45 minutes for the apps to come out ( they only had three other tables sat.) The prices were fair but definitely not worth paying $75. The mussels looked like they weren't even clean And didn't taste like much of anything ... had two and unfortunately couldn't eat the rest it was gross. The calamari wasn't bad , and the stuffed shrimp was good but there homemade onion rings were tasteless and the onions didn't taste cooked very disappointing. The inside was clean except for the million of flies flying around us which of course is super annoying anywhere you go to eat. I have been going to Ship Bottom Shellfish for 25 years\. For many years, I considered it one of the best hidden secrets on the island--always excellent\-quality seafood, cooked to perfection\. Unfortunately, as the restaurant has become more popular and the lines have gotten longer, the quality of both the fish and the cooking seems to have gone downhill\. Even for takeout, the wait can now be close to two hours\. This is the third time this season that I've waited nearly two hours for a pickup order, paid top dollar, and been very disappointed with the food\. This time I ordered tuna and specifically asked for it rare, as tuna should be served\. Instead, I received a dark, badly overcooked piece of fish that was practically inedible\. I couldn't even finish it\. If this had happened once, I would have simply said that every restaurant can have a bad night\. But after three disappointing experiences this season, it no longer feels like an exception--it feels like a pattern\. It's really a shame because Ship Bottom Shellfish has been one of my favorite restaurants for 25 years, and I have many great memories of meals from there\. But when you wait two hours and pay premium prices, you should be able to expect a quality meal\. First visit and will not be our last. The resturant is nice with bar seating outside and inside dining. Our server Lauren S. Happily greeted us and was attentive all through our dinner. She even surprised my husband with a selection of ice teas after asking him which kind he wanted. Smart girl! We enjoyed 2 appetizers - baked clams and artichoke stuffed with crab. This seafood shop and restaurant is a great place to visit while at the beach. We stopped here for lunch during a warm weekend at the beach in October. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. There seats inside and out and the atmosphere was relaxing and casual. Our Ipswich clams or what New Englander call steamers were delicious. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon after Labor Day and there was no waiting for a table inside, there's also outdoor tables which are perfect for a day at the shore. I ordered the Manhattan clam chowder which was peppery and low on the clams. I also ordered the Crab wrap - lump crab meat, brie cheese, chopped bacon, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes + dill mayo in a spinach wrap, served with fries. I opted for a hoagie roll rather than spinach wrap. All good, plenty of crabmeat and crispy bacon. Mmmmm Service was prompt and served with a smile. We ate here yesterday evening. It was 4:30 on a Saturday in the not quite high season so it was busy, but there was no wait. Our servers were pleasant and professional. It's typical beach decor, but quite clean. My wife and I each had the fried seafood platter. It consisted of a large crab cake (delish), two scallops, three shrimp and two pieces of flounder. We decided to give it a try for takeout during this year's vacation and it did not disappoint! Everyone really enjoyed their food. It was super fresh and didn't arrive soggy. Our only complaint was that we ordered 2lbs of peel and eat shrimp and didn't realize they forgot to give it to us until we got home. We called to ask them if they could deliver it (no) or refund our card and they said they would but never did. So I would've given more stars but come on...that's just bad business! My family and I ate here two times during our week vacation. The food, service and quality was top notch! It was so good and you have to go when you visit Ship Bottom. Came here for my husbands birthday and it was great. The place is over all small so I'm assuming during high season it's a long wait. The staff was very nice. I got myself the chicken which sadly I wasn't a super fan of but my husband and other guest got the salmon, oysters, and halibut which they enjoyed a lot. I would def come back and hope they have king crab legs so I can have those as this time they didn't and sadly I don't eat many different seafood items. read more

My wife and I had our anniversary lunch here today and it was fantastic! The greeter, the waitress Vivian and the bus boy all did a great job! I had the strip steak, with lobster tail add on, broccoli and onion rings. It said, "best" strip steak you ever had. I have to admit, it's one of the best and Ray's rub makes it even better. Go here for the tuna poke nachos and the artichoke heart appetizer both are BANGING but the artichoke was pricey for 4 mini crab stuffed hearts. Save that roll though to soak up all the goodness that was like an authentic Italian dish that reminded us of one of our favorite places that no longer exists. It's a garlic buttery artichokey sauce that's amazing! Put our name on the list and waited an hour and fifteen but had some high noons from across the street while waiting. The BEST lobster bisque soup that I've ever been graced to have! Why do I only have pictures of the menu then? Because everything was gobbled up before the thought of pictures entered into my mind. No regrets here! My 2.5 year old absolutely destroyed his fish and chips platter, to mine and my husband's amazement. He "nom nom nom"ed the whole time, and we just kept giving each other a thumbs up, because dinner tonight was a total success! We started off with their fried calamari (crispy, fresh, and addicting) which came with a side of dipping red sauce that was delicious. Legs were also included which I do enjoy. The New England clam chowder was also another staple that shouldn't be skipped over. The subtle hint of dill was very refreshing, and added depth to this beloved soup. The lobster bisque soup, to me, stole the show, with the chunks of lobster that were generous and plentiful. Almost every other spoonful had lobster! Hubby and I each got their lump crab meat sandwiches, and MAN - these were insanely good! Worth every penny! For takeaway, everything was packaged with great care, and our order was waiting for us as soon as we walked in the door. Inside, the place was already JAMMED at 5PM! We've been coming to SBS since the 80s and it holds a special place in our hearts. Tonight was the first bad experience we've ever had. Our table of 4 was in the middle of the room under the air conditioning and we all were frozen. Not just barely cold. Frozen. Our appetizers all came out at separate times. My friends soup. Which he finished. Then my husbands scallops. Which he finished. Then my salad. Just basic blocking and tackling that didn't happen. My blackened grouper special was just awful. No other way to describe it. Clearly frozen, mushy and wet. One of our group ordered the fried platter and it was served cold. It was Saturday night which I recognize. But this is not the quality of food and service we've always come to expect from SBS. Very disappointing. read more

We went on a Sunday at 3:00. An early dinner but no line, which I hear is a problem at peak hours. I would wait in line. The ambiance is not fussy: the predictable nautical themes. But 'not fussy' isn't bad. It was a welcoming atmosphere which is homey. The young ladies were all helpful and personable in a professional manner. Nice girls working hard for a summer job. Good service. Thank you MaryKate. Only one bathroom so those with youngs or olds may want to take that into consideration. We have one who is not seafood friendly but they had 4 (and only FOUR) non fish options. Another thing to consider. Come for the fish, of which they have a wide variety. Well above average in selection, honestly. That being said, their seared tuna was great, their crab cake was the second best I ever ate, their fried oysters were worth the trip. Their raw oysters were good and fresh, but they were a trifle warm. Not sure why. Not a major complaint. Their fried shrimp was above average but the batter was not my favorite. More like hush puppy batter which many like. I prefer a lighter batter but that is a personal preference. We plan to return often as we vacation here read more

Down in LBI? Gotta hit up Ship Bottom Shellfish. It's the GO TO every time we're in town for a little R and R. Make sure you walk up and make a reservation. They don't take them over the phone or online. It's always worth the wait though. Haven't waiting more than 2 hours and you can go hit a bar or walk around town in the mean time. What we snagged: -Crab Cakes. Literally, the best. No filler all crab. -Seafood Combo. Not fried. Comes with fish of the day (cod for us) shrimp, crab cake, scallops, and two sides. Here I got slaw and onion rings. The best party? It's BYOB. Bring anything you want and enjoy the fresh seafood. Service is also always great. It's a very cute, family-owned place (I'm assuming) on LBI with great customer service and awesome food. I loved eating here after a day at the beach.
