tuna fresco

Harvey Cedars Shellfish is THE place to go to for your seafood dinners on Long Beach Island. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a fish market for your convenience if you want to be the chef of your seafood. The outdoor seating is perfect for a relaxing, easy breezy dinner vibe, and it's BYOB. They even chill your drinks for you in a barrel of ice which is super kind! They start out with complimentary bread, which I unfortunately cannot eat. Since we were all craving oysters, we ordered a half-dozen oysters which were sourced from the Delaware Bay that day. They were salty and a little briny with a sweet aftertaste, served with lemon and cocktail sauce - yum! They also were HUGE and meaty for oysters which was a pleasant surprise. The main entrees were pretty good as the seafood was impeccably fresh and cooked to perfection. I got the tuna fresco (fresh barnegat light yellowfin topped with sundried tomatoes, roasted red peppers, kalamata olives, artichoke hearts, roasted garlic & fresh basil). I'm not sure if the briny, sour flavors matched up to what I was expecting based on the description. I also wasn't a fan of my rice being undercooked. The fresh Jersey corn as a side was a highlight! My friend got the chicken parm which was super filling. It's nice to know that they can cater to non-seafood eaters with chicken platters! My other friend got the special of the day which was a seared local monkfish (served over a rustic medley of crushed tomato, baby potatoes, escarole, and cannellini beans served with grilled pesto toast). Even though her potatoes were undercooked, the fish was super tasty and I loved the sauce that surrounded it. The service was friendly and attentive. The ambiance was light, airy, and laid back. They even have a fun ring string game outside if you're waiting a while. That kept us entertained for a while after dinner, and we had an audience rooting for us! Harvey Cedars Shellfish offers a great seafood dining experience on LBI. It's worth a visit if you're in the area, especially for a special occasion. Note that the prices are on the higher end, but that is to be expected since you're eating fresh seafood on the island.

We had a fantastic meal here with even better service from our waiter Scott B. The Veracruz calamari was beyond good and I STRONGLY recommend it. My order was initially incorrect when brought to our table but Scott immediately corrected it and everything was fresh and delicious with everything properly accounted for. Probably some of the absolute best service I have experienced at any restaurant.

The atmosphere and the super friendly staff, I think it's one of the best places to eat seafood in LBI, especially the appetizers The clams and mussels over garlic bread was amazing !!!

We went to Harvey Cedars Shellfish for the 2nd time yesterday and it was great! We decided to split a few appetizer dishes as our meal. We had the calamari Veracruz, mussels Americana, and firecracker shrimp. We absolutely loved the firecracker shrimp and calamari! The calamari had this very unique breading that packed lots of flavor and was topped with fresh jersey tomatoes! The firecracker shrimp had the perfect amount of spice and was so crispy! The mussels unfortunately were not the best quality and had an odd taste. Also about half of our mussels were closed/dead, so we couldn't eat them. Overall, we really enjoy it here because the prices are very reasonable and the food is great! Our waitress, Kristen, was also extremely friendly! We will be back soon!

Cold Seafood Sampler was a beautiful and delicious dish!

Just wrapped up a fun family vacation with a delicious dinner at Harvey Cedars Shellfish. We went at a popular time and had a party of six, so we had to wait. It ended up being well worth the wait. I was starving after a day at the beach. We ordered a pound of fried clams, cold seafood sampler appetizer, and the scallop melt. All were high quality. Went for the broiled seafood platter for my entree. Great portion of high quality seafood featuring shrimp, scallops, filet, and a crab cake. The crab cake was awesome and the rest of the dish was cooked to perfection. The corn on the cob was in season and the rice pilaf had a delicious nuttiness. The rest of the family loved their food as well. Highly recommend!

Excellent seafood. Loved my swordfish, the shrimp was also very good. Tuna dish was also good, but different. Great bread, house salad is large. My only complaint is that the corn was a little old. :( decent service, but our server may have had too many tables.

My lady friend and I ordered take out from here and the food was pretty good . Portions were decent, and food was solid . She ordered a Fraser salad with scallops and shrimp which was pretty good, reasonable amount of shrimp but not many scallops. Very tasty I might add. I ordered buffalo tuna bites and they were very good, cooked perfect and sauce was good. My only complaint, because that's what we're here for, was the Manhattan chowder soup which I found watery ?!?! . And 10$ for an order of French fries with old bay seasoning is a little much. But I get it that everyone's trying to make a buck! I would def sit and eat there for sure, give them a try !

We were looking for an early dinner before boarding a sunset cruise in LBI. Found this place and it was perfect as they offered an early bird special between the time they open (4:30pm) to 5:30pm. The early bird special gives you 15% off your entire bill. We had a lovely dinner in this great BYOB seafood restaurant. Ambience has a beachy vibe without feeling too casual. The tables are spacious and we had ample room. Later, I found out the portions are large, especially the pastas so it's a good thing the tables are big! I ordered the broiled seafood combination ($30) and it was pretty good. It came with flounder (good texture but needed some seasoning), a crab cake (no fillers, decent size, lots of crab meat), some shrimp, a few sea scallops (really good, slightly sweet but only 2 pieces), corn on the cob (so sweet!) and rice. Other things we ordered were: Firecracker shrimp- flash fried shrimp sautéed with a sweet Asian chile sauce. This was good, slightly sweet with a hint of spiciness. Shrimp stuffed with crab meat (~$25) 3 decent sized pieces which looked like crab cake on top of shrimp, comes with corn on the cob and rice Chicken parm with pasta (~$25) - really large portion; large enough for 2-3 people! Comes with garlic bread. Kids pasta ($9) - standard pasta but portion could feed an adult! Comes with garlic bread. Service was wonderful. Our waiter kept checking on us and was thoughtful to offer to refill drinks and bread without prompting. He asked several times how everything was. My only complaint is that towards the end, we felt a little rushed to leave. There were people waiting outside when we were almost done so they needed our table. Overall, the food, service and ambience were all great. We'll be back.

What a great concept!…read more Picked up a pot for dinner. Got the captain pierce low rider and there was plenty of food for two people. The pot was so easy to cook and the lady behind the counter walked through the instructions to make sure I understood how to do it. She even took a phone call an hour later when we had a question. The seafood tasted so fresh. The sausage, potatoes, and corn were great with the seasoning in the pot. Went with the half and half and it had enough spice to be the right amount of flavor. I wonder if I went with the full Cajun if the spice level might be too much. Definitely will be going back to pick up another pot when craving seafood.

Looked them up and noted lots of online options. I actually made a spreadsheet to simplify the choices. By vote, we ordered the Shark Bite which gave an ample variety of seafood. Counter service was somewhat helpful - do this, that - follow the directions. Once we started, did this and that - I admit - it was a lot of fun - steam came out of the top, added the cold food and we were on our way. We started grabbing the beautifully steamed goodies. The corn, potatoes, and little necks were very good. The scallops and crab legs were ok. Sadly, the lobster tails and shrimp were overdone - meat stuck to the shells. Maybe you need more than 2 steam times for 8 different foods. I would not get the bigger buckets again. Added a star for the fun factor.

We stopped in here last night, luckily kind of early because by the time we left they were packed. I've always loved this place for their clams...always amazing and fresh. I will say that their wait in menu is a bit pricey, but you're paying LBI prices so just expect it. We had a party of five last night and the food was delicious. Wifey had a fried flounder sandwich that was too much for her (so I got about 1/3 of her filet!), but she loved it. I had the premium crab cakes and started with a dozen little necks. The little necks were really small so I was a little disappointed in the serving size, but the crab cakes with fries and 1/2 a corn on the cob filled me up. My son and daughter's boyfriend both had salmon and my daughter had garlic Parmesan shrimp and pasta. Always a delicious meal!

We could eat literally more than a couple of dozen each for dinner. Nothing was fresher. Today I had steamer clams here that brought me right back to grandma's table! They were so incredibly tender (stems and all), sweet and fresh. For anyone who is not a fan, I can't describe them. For anyone who is, I implore you --- take a ride and eat those steamer clams. They come in a bucket to go. But they will make you a third for an order to eat in. I had two orders. I could have eaten 3! With the melted butter and the broth for dipping it was sheer heaven. I am a happy person today.

I ordered a cup of the New England Clam Chowder and the Broiled Viking Village Scallops (all the meals came with 1/2 a corn on the cob and smashed potatoes). Wifey ordered the Broiled Shrimp meal, daughter had the Grilled Shrimp meal, and my son and daughter's boyfriend both ordered the Grilled Atlantic Salmon meals. We all really liked our meals.
