This is a small place, not a "fine dining" establishment, but the seafood is always really good. Since it's kind of loud we always like it as a place to take our toddler so he won't be the only one making noise, it's a really good choice for kids. Our party had crab cakes, stuffed shrimp, a fried seafood platter and chicken fingers for the little one. All were really good. First time visiting LBI & this restaurant we picked after looking on YELP. It was crowded on a Sunday night but moved along quickly. Small cozy restaurant. The food was amazing, being from NY I know good food & good seafood. This was fresh! Bacon wrapped scallops, oysters were outstanding. New England Clam chowder was to die for. Well worth the wait which could be up to 2 hrs tonight. Ours wasn't that bad. The clams with linguini & red sauce, great. Little necks fresh from the bay, very tender, with excellent sauce & al-dente linguini. My companion had the fried seafood platter consisting of shrimp, scallops, lump crab cake & flounder. Had the Crabby Mac & Cheese. It started off strong, but ended badly. Way, way too much shell. I was picking bits of carapace out of every other bite. Delicious flavor but too hazardous. My wife had the lump crab cake and hers was great and not dangerous to dental work! High prices, but then fresh seafood isn't cheap. This place was great. After a few swings and misses at other places on LBI, we finally hit a home run with Ship Bottom Shellfish. Everythig we ordered was very good. They even had hawaiian poke which was great. Scallops were perfect. Shrimp was perfect, crabcake was all crab, the way it should be. Would definitely eat here again. Ship Bottom is a very unique location over in LBI. Walking in there was a few different options, you could dine in, order to go, or purchase seafood from their small market. My friends and I sat down to dine in. I ordered the seafood bisque and they ordered sweet chili calamari which a table next to us highly recommended. The seafood bisque was pretty good, a little buttery for my taste but there was plenty of seafood there. Their calamari was really good. The breading was nice and thing which did not overpower the calamari. Calamari was not rubbery which is a big win. I got the baked seafood platter which had a nice filet of swordfish, scallops, shrimp, a crab cake, and also 2 choices of sides which I went with corn on the cob and potato salad. The swordfish was delicious, the scallops melted in my mouth, the shrimp was very flavorful and the crab cake was very good. It was a little pricey but you absolutely get what you pay for. The food was good, but my fried fish sandwich was kind of skimpy and delivered on a plain bun. Order a platter for a better meal, side dishes are uninspiring but the fish is generally fresh and good. One BAD thing, one toilet and its shared unisex and on the outside of the restaurant! One star for our server. She was nice and attentive. The rest of my experience was as a bad as it gets. The buser/side server dropped the cover for our mussels dish (what they are know for) and put it back on thinking we didn't see. Everyone is human so we decided that what doesn't kill will only make you stronger and tried them. At this point in our experience is when it just went down hill. The mussels weren't bad but of horrible quality. They clearly were not fresh having a mushy texture (like eating peas). After sending them back we received a visit from whom I assume was the front of house manager. She touched our table wanting to check in with why we returned the mussels. We explained to her how we felt and her response was of the utmost irresponsible, immature, unprofessional, and argumentative manner. To be short and sweet, she spoke down to us telling us we didn't know what we were talking about and they were fine (stressing the fact that they were definitely fresh). I don't want to pull this card but being a chef in Philadelphia I better know good quality food and this was not. My advice to this establishment is focus on making your customers happy and don't try to argue with them when there is a complaint. read more

One of the top 5 crab cakes I've ever had. My wife and I stopped in for lunch. I tried the Mud City Crab Cake special (a huge lump crab-meat crab cake served with jalapeno tartar sauce and topped with avocado and bacon). Crab was cooked to perfection and had a nice hint of sweetness. Served with thick cut fries. The wife had fried flounder sandwich and fries. Flounder was fresh, not greasy, and a substantial portion. Not a lot of seating (4 booths and maybe 6 four tops), but nice decor (all wood paneling and appropriate seafaring pictures). I think we lucked out on seating bc the place filled up really quickly after we sat down at 12:30ish. If you can't get a seat inside, they have an outdoor seating bar and take away service. In addition to cooked options, they sell fresh fish options in the market, including, crab legs, tuna steaks, and pre-made crab-cakes, which look exactly like the ones they serve, if you want to cook at home. Good food but somewhat inconsistent service especially when it is extra busy. Serving sizes and prices are typical for LBI. Don't miss out on the mussels in garlic sauce they are always on point. I'd steer away from the clams casino. I don't know where they got their recipe from but Gordon Ramsey would be blowing his lid. Clams have been terribly small lately too. Their fried and baked seafood combos are always a good choice although their fried food has a tendency to be over fried in oil that probably isn't rotated as often as it should. I always make a stop or two at this place when I'm in the area. It's an LBI staple. read more

Went here tonight with wife and both kids. It was a total chance that we showed up. No reservations or yelp to assist us. We drove up and stopped. It's a take out and eat in. It only seats , I would say 40 so there will likely be a wait. My family had a 25 min wait and we sat outside during that time (no big deal). Once we sat down we quickly ordered the lobster bisque to start, I got stuffed flounder entree , and my wife got the cod with imperial crab topping. My kids got a 4 buck hotdog and fries. Simply put-the seafood cannot get any fresher. I could not decide what to get so had the baked seafood sampler which was sizable and all good. The crab cake was flavorful and delectable. The scallops were a good size and the perfect nearly melt in your mouth texture. The shrimp were tender. The seasoning on the fish brought out and did not overpower the flavor of the fish. My broccoli side-dish was one of the best broccoli dishes I have had-perfect amount of butter and garlic. And loved that they are ready with frosted mugs and wine glasses for BYOB. read more

Mother's Day day trip to LBI finished on a high note. This place is an absolute gem! Wait was 45 minutes (ok it's Mother's Day) Not a problem. We were seated as quickly as possible. The menu selection was amazing...so much to choose from. Service was fantastic! This is a very small place I really must compliment all of the servers. As they were cleaning the tables you could hear them thanking each other for helping out. It was so nice to hear. The staff was upbeat and very friendly and they were extremely busy!
