Okay, so this place is vegan... completely. Don't let that fool ya, all you meat-and-potato people. The food is delicious and affordable, even for the likes of you. They have sidewalk seating and walk up order service. The people are wonderful and polite who work there. I believe I have a fairly balanced review here. We went 2 days in a row and ordered 4 different meals, a juice, and a smoothie. All delicious. Portions are good. Prices are good. Atmosphere is good. Everybody brings their dog to sit and hang out too, just like we did. Dogs allowed? Yep. Good. **There's just a few downsides (minor): 1.) A few of their dressings contain Veganaise. - "So?" Well, while vegan, there is some very good dispute about the health claims and transparency of the ingredient list and the "hidden" MSG ingredients. Now, I'm not here to defend or otherwise, but to just let you know. Also, Shine wasn't trying to hide the fact they use it like some major conspiracy or something. They showed me the label of ingredients when I asked. Very, very nice and accommodating. So, the Veganaise, well... We eat a pretty clean vegan diet, so anytime Veganaise happens to end up in something we eat... we both know it usually at night or when we wake up. The culprit is usually that, and/or canola oil, and canola oil is a whole other bag'o beans discussion, but we do our best to stay far away from it (which they don't seem to use canola here, so that's very cool in my opinion... which is more worthless than my reviews.) Whatever's in Veganaise, trust that it's not a healthful decision. It's not. It's not. It's not. It's tasty, and you like to splurge. Fine. Just know what you're eating. Everything marked vegan, natural, or GMO-free is not healthy. It's not. Not here to argue... save that for the people who commit their lives to focusing on the truth... or even covering it up... that's your job to research, ya turkey. 2.) All the wrapped plastic with silverware and pepper & salt packets, most of that ends up in the trash. It's a little heart breaking for a California coastal town. It's during the pandemic... so that may have something to do with it. And, bamboo forks probably aren't the most cost effective... YET. A single plastic fork may be the answer, don't know. But it does seem a bit wasteful. And just watching the careless tourists flood in, it's more stuff that litters their beautiful rock island and waters. They also fatten the wildlife! (which is getting WAY obese from the tourists feeding them, and piling windblown trash... a weird side rant. But look at the HUGE squirrels!) Plastic, plastic, and litter. An important topic. 3.) The "Black Bean Taco" - Well, I'm not sure how to categorize this one. "Is it good?" - Yep. "Is it affordable?" - Yep. "Is it filling?" - Yep. "So what's the problem?" - It's not a taco. It's salad with a single flat lonely tortilla just waiting at the bottom when you're done. It's not a meal that's lacking, it's the name. It's the expectation when you order a taco. However... it is tasty. And if you know what to expect... have at it! Anyway, to sum up... this place is awesome. It's also very busy all the time, so that should say something. And it should be. The prices are less than half than the other overly priced meals in the area. And that's no joke. There's a place on the waterfront that tries to charge over $25 dollars for pasta. And not the fine-dining pasta establishment where the waiter is in fact Italian, speaks Italian, knows Italian food, and carries the wine towel over his arm and serenades you gently to light piano music while your date swoons. It's just.. spaghetti and sauce. $25. There's another place on that same strip that charges over $22 for curry. "What?" Yes! For curry! Not sure if you've ever had curry, but... first of all: WHAT?! Go get some because it's gooooooooood. And you'll likely spend a maximum of $10 + a fat tip for a whole meal you can't finish because it comes with enough rice to feed a family of 8. If you spend more than that AND you don't have a crapload of leftovers... go to another spot, immediately. Because coconut milk, indian spices and white rice are about the cheapest ingredients on the planet. And they might actual be from India, know Indian food and speak its language(s) and charge an appropriate amount for curry. "Well, it's the atmosphere you pay for." - Okay. You're right. "You don't have to go." - True. You don't. "You're free to go somewhere else". True. And we did. Are we all feeling justified and righteous yet??! But if the service and atmosphere "wows you to death" and demands overpayment of $12 for potatoes & bell peppers bathing in yellow coconut milk... hey, your prerogative. :) Weird side rant. The very best tempeh I've had in my life. This place is so good that I deeply regret not getting extra dishes to take home. I had the TLT (tempeh, lettuce, tomato), the vegan take on BLT. We visit this place on 6/17/2020, what a wonderful surprised, I yelped plant based foods and got this place. My wife and I had to order takeout, but luckily they had tables outside to eat. The line wasn't long at all to order and the gentleman who took order was too friendly, but's it's okay. I got the black bean taco, and it wasn't what I expected. It's one big taco open face, meaning one tortilla on the bottom and everything on the top. People don't get me wrong, it was very delicious, especially the creamy cilantro dressing. Would I get it again? Maybe! My wife on the other hand got the Vegetable Spring Roll, 3 for $10. What a great deal, very delicious, their sauce was yummy!! This is recommended over and over on their yelp that's why she got it. Lastly we got the Pina Maca-lada and the Island Fever. Recommend the Pina Maca-lada, and my wife said the Island fever was too orange favor for her. I found out that they own the grocery store too next door which is really cool. Top of my list of places to eat in Morro Bay is this place. Tons of choices, all vegan all the time. On this visit, I had the Shine Wrap, which is a delicious wrap made with Shine's housemade hummus, kalamata olives, fresh veggies including baby arugala, all topped off with a roasted garlic vinaigrette and rolled up in a spinach & whole wheat tortilla and served with a side salad and house dressing. (I thought I'd taken a pic but I can't find it so I must have only thought I took a photo :D) Their menu is extensive and has enough variety that I could probably eat here every day for a week and not have the same thing twice! I was a little hesitant at first because one taco did not sound filling, but that's very misleading. What you get is a plate packed high and to the edges with greens, and then somewhere below, if you search long and hard enough, you'll find that taco. It was so good, but it was actually so much that I couldn't finish it! The prices here are extremely reasonable - that enormous plate was just $9.
