My lucky find! Kohakuto in various flavors
    Jackie K.

Always in search for Kohakuto. The Japanese Agar-Agar sugar treat. Difficult to make the authentic way. So far Sachi Sweets is my favorite. However, a close runner up is the Kohakuto made by Shiggy's. I picked up a bag of Shiggy's Kohakuto first at a Soccer fundraiser in front of Walmart. Multiple flavors were available. I selected the variety bag of Grape, Bubble Gum and Lychee. Every flavor was subtle, but it is sweet. After all it's made with sugar. I wanted to find the store location and thankfully my Yelp buddy Donna O. was the first to review this place! Lucky! Jackpot! We found bags of Kohakuto there. Many flavors as well. Of course I picked up a variety of flavors. Donna got a stash as well lol. I'm a bad influence here. We met Shige (sp. ?) of Shiggy's. A very polite and nice man with a Japanese accent. He is very personable and full of Aloha. He kept apologizing to us as he was preparing 800 bentos for pick up. We were not in a rush so we told him not to worry as we were looking at everything in the store / restaurant. See pictures for menu and goodies available for takeout. Great bentos, snacks, and service here. Support local. 4.5/5 stars

Homemade by Shiggy... Early morning drop off for mom at her appointment as me up at em in the early morning without breakfast to start my work day isn't something unusual though since it's still early I thought Shiggy's would be perfect since I'm in the area. Shiggy's is located in Kingsgate Plaza which sits on a super busy intersection of Dillingham, Liliha and N King Street that has Jollibee prominent view from the street has entrances from either end though with the current rail construction can make it quite a challenge at times but with lots of free parking it's still a great place to grab some grub. Even at the early morning they have various bentos ready to go but it's their "Moning Special" for me with scrambled eggs, spam or Portuguese sausage and rice for $7.99 is quite pricey considering their right next door to 7 Eleven just knowing it's freshly made is what has me drooling. It didn't take very long and it was all ready to go packed with everything that I needed...my super sad moment once I had ready to go I dropped it...the whole bento flipped over upside down with nothing to save...WAH!!! The Portuguese sauce was shaped like Spam which is what I though I got but I never got to taste it at all sadly but will be back to this lovely place with a delightful Japanese guy doing it all is quite amazing. Thank you!

Update on Shiggy on Friday my Manager is finally retiring lol. So I ordered couple of bentos for his going away party . Mr.Shiggy's requires only couple days in order to put in a custom order . Basically I ordered the Fish and shrimp tempura bento @ $10.95 then I added spam, Hot dog, and sweet egg Shiggy's-San charged me $13.95 which was great . Everyone at the gathering said that the bento was very delicious and filling. I highly recommend Shiggy's located at the corner of Dillingham and King St. next door to 7-11 and Jolibee . He also sells a breakfast bento for $3.99 which you can't beat the price . It comes with an egg , spam , hot dog over a bed of sushi rice . Support local

7-28-2023 Vegetable Tempura; The texture was gummy. The taste was ok. Inari sushi; Flavor was in the aburaage ( tofu wrapper ). It was light on the vinegar flavor and not too sweet. I'm not sure if It was Shiggy at the counter. He was very friendly and kept thanking me for the monetary tip I left. Overall, I will be back. Enjoy.

Takeout breakfast and lunch in Honolulu, Hawaii... My friend, Donna O., was First To Review a little over a year and a half ago. I also read great reviews by Craig T. and Sharon M. Thanks for the information! When I took my niece, mom, and sister to S7 Icy Bubble at Kingsgate Plaza (corner of Dillingham and King Street), I was reminded that I should go to Shiggy's. The big yellow sign in the window, "$3.99" is eye catching! Located next to 7-Eleven, Shiggy's shares the same free parking lot with Jollibee and Jiffy Lube. The cozy, clean shop has a large table filled with ready-to-go bentos and sides. The display case has some desserts and banchan. They also have a refrigerator filled with cold drinks. I decided to get the $3.99 special bento. It has a red hotdog, slice of spam, tamagoyaki, Furikake, red ginger, and takuan on a bed of white rice. I also got the Unagi Bowl and the tofu nuggets with katsu sauce. I liked everything! The spam in the $3.99 bento was on the sweet side. The Unagi had some scrambled egg on the rice. The tofu nuggets didn't really need sauce, but the sauce made it a bit more fun! Service was very polite, efficient and cheerful! I think I saw Shiggy - he was smiling and energetic! This positive experience makes me want to return!

Located at Kingsgate Plaza! Da same place where dat Jollibee Frrrrrrried Chicken joint is.

I go CHANCE 'EM!!!!! Das what I said to myself after seeing da pic of an Unagi Bowl that my Yelp buddy - Da FAMOUS Auntie Nadine C. had posted on Yelp! At first, I thought this bento joint was located in Wahiawa, as I guess I got confused with Shiggy's vs. Shige Saimin Stand in Wahiawa.......(sorry old people problems! Old folks get confused Yo!) Lol!!! Shiggy's is located at da Kingsgate Plaza in Kalihi, da shop is sandwiched between a 7-Eleven store (and no, I did not sneak next door for a Garlic Chicken Musubi) & a discount T-Shirt shop. A nice little local hole-in-da-wall joint that sells pre-made bentos. They also sell a few drinks, & pastry items. I mainly came here for dat Unagi Bowl, as me digs Unagi!!! What can I say about da grindages? Buggah was broke da moufth ono!!!! When I picked up that Unagi bowl, da buggah was supah heavy! Besides the Unagi - (Freshwater Eel), underneath the eel was a nice fluffy bed of a scrambled egg, and a very generous portion of fluffy rice, topped with a side of Sansyo - (Japanese Pepper). I must say that the Unagi bowl was da perfect meal for a hearty breakfast in da morning, as the unagi sauce that was topped on the freshwater eel had spilled on top of my egg, making it a wonderful, savory, lip-smackin' meal!!!! Ummmmmmmmmmmm, I like go back and eat another Unagi Bowl again! Lol! Shoooooooooooots den! If you're not into Unagi like Bruddah Fran, go check out da $3.99 Bento DEALAGES (see my pic)! Da $3.99 Bento looked pretty ono too.

Love Love Love Shiggy's! I thought of not reviewing Shiggy's because I wanted to keep it a secret, but the food is so good I can't keep quiet. Located in the plaza with Jiffy Lube, Jolibee and 7-Eleven at the intersection of Dillingham / Liliha & King Street. Lots of free parking in the private parking lot. More parking is available down the ramp across from Jiffy Lube. Open early, Shiggy's offers teri Spam musubi, siumai, veggie spring rolls, potato croquette, gyoza, kalbi bowl (so good) and fried shrimp. I have had all of these one time or another and I keep going back. The perfect breakfast. The sauce Shiggy puts on the Spam is sweet and compliments the saltiness of the Spam, perfectly. (I usually don't care for Spam that has been sauced, but I really like this one.) A Spam musubi, a veggie spring roll and a veggie croquette, packed neatly into one container is my go-to bento. The siumai and gyoza are tasty. Shiggy's items are more a bit $$, it makes it hard to eat there often. I haven't been able to take advantage of the $3.99 famous bento. One day.

We were in the area and found this spot. They were previously at Kahala Times and now have their own shop in Kalihi at the corner of North King Street and Dillingham Boulevard next to the 7-Eleven store. The lady working the register was very nice and friendly. They have many pre-made bentos, donburi, bowls, sushi, appetizers and musubis. They have such a great variety and even have a microwave for heating them up in the shop. Inside, they have a table full of bentos to the left and a chiller on the right for the sushi, bachan, and soba noodles. If you prefer to have your order made fresh, they will make it as long as you are willing to wait. You walk in and don't even know where to begin because there are so many choices. This a great place for a variety of food to choose from and it's great for a quick grab! What is also great is that their prices are fairly reasonable!

Owner is very friendly. Variety of bentos to choose from, along with plate lunches and such. There is breakfast too. The place is small with some tables. Overall the prices are reasonable and the food we got was hot and fresh. I even tried the ramune drink.

    Opened since Jan 2021.

I made a stop at the Kalihi's Jolibee and noticed a Brick and Mortar Shiggy's! It's located at the Kingsgate Plaza right next to 7-11 store. It's in the old location of Red Ribbon Bakery in the same shopping complex as Jolibee and Jiffy Lube. It's where the two streets meet, N. King Street and Dillingham Blvd. It was a small place and nothing fancy but a place for their food preparation which they also sell at the Times Supermarket's location in McCully, Liliha and Kahala. He has a helper but he was alone after the lunch hours. He appeared to be the owner and was such a kind older man. He said it gets really busy during the morning hours and some of his customers buy musubis since they open at 6am. He had some bentos available when I stopped by after lunch, but if not, he can make it for you as you wait. There were some of the desserts in the display case but decided to try the Mabo Tofu. It was a nice 8 oz size for $5.99. Actually I really liked it! It was tasty with pork, onion, tofu, chili paste, shoyu, black bean, rice topped with green onions! The rice was really good too. Shiggy's is open from Monday through Saturday from 6am-4pm! I can't believe they were opened since January of this year! I'm sure they get a lot foot traffic from all the bus riders, near by residents and businesses. Good to know they are open so early if you need a bento or snack for breakfast or lunch and they are closed by 4pm. Although finding parking in a busy parking lot can be challenging. I was able to find a parking stall right in front. There were some underground parking, but I didn't feel so safe parking underneath. It's not so lit and kind of dark. I love to support small local businesses and will try his chicken katsu curry or or chicken karaage next. I have supported and purchased some of their foods/sushi at the Time's McCully location. I really enjoyed the Mabo Tofu today! Thanks for reading my review =)

I didn't forget as I said i would take pictures of the current menu and I did. I also said that i would try the chirashi and I did. I'm very glad I did. It was very good with fresh fish. I will attempt to name all the sashimi that went into making the chirashi. Forgive me if I'm wrong. Let's start off with the easy one first which would be maguro. Then there's tamago, ebi, hamachi, tako, sake, Tobiko and tai. Oh ok. I understand. Ahi (yellow fish), egg, shrimp, Yellow tail, octopus, salmon, flying fish eggs and red snapper or sea bream. The chirashi comes with Miso soup, edamame, cabbage and pickled onions(?). The place was crowded when we came in. Harder to sit a group of five people. My bowling mates all opted for the lunch box which is a great deal. It comes with everything that I got with my chirashi. You can select 2 choices and a piece of either vegetable tempura or shrimp tempura or 2 pieces of gyoza. I'd recommend the shrimp tempura. All of this for just $22.95. That's a good price for Japanese food and the amount given. My chirashi was $25.95. If you're looking for Japanese food and on a budget, give this place a try. It comes on a teishoku platter, with a bowl of rice, one shrimp tempura, green salad, a dish with tsukemomo, and a bowl of miso soup. I wasn't very hungry, so I ordered the Katsu Don ($17.95). A nice piece of tonkatsu, vegetables and egg over a large bowl of rice. It came with tsukemono and miso soup. The food is consistently good, plentiful, and the restaurant is usually crowded. We were surprised to find just seven diners, including the four of us), in the restaurant at noon on Wednesday. Was it a result of the increased prices? We've seen that happen at other places; a temporary downturn in business until customers get over the sticker shock and realize that prices increased everywhere. As it stands, we will continue to patronize Kikuya.

Comes with miso soup, rice, Japanese pickles, cold soba noodles, seasonal side dish. Main entrees are sashimi, tempura, maguro, misoyaki butterfish, ahi steak, saba. Salmon, ahi belly, katsu, and more. * Sushi Bar. With miso soup. Menu offerings are deluxe & standard assorted sushi, maguro don, Chirashi sushi. * Noodles. Deep fried tempura of shrimp and assorted veggies in a rice bowl with sauce & hot udon. Very filling and tasty! * Tempura Teishoku. This teishoku had 3 large pieces of fried tempura shrimp and assorted veggies, e.g., carrot, eggplant, green beans, pumpkin, that were light and non-oily. Our teishoku meals came with pickled veggies, cold soba, rice, and miso soup with lots of wakame and radish sprouts. Very flavorful! They also offered a complimentary birthday scoop of ice cream with a dollop of an as a topping, which was refreshing and paired well! * Maguro Tempura Teishoku. Hubby's choice of fried tempura tuna set, and he noted that there were 8 large tender pieces of maguro that was lightly fried and non-oily. Very delicious and filling! * Unagi nigiri. The unagi was so flaky, tender, and light and had the right amount of sauce. Loved it! The presentation of the meals was beautifully plated with real, authentic Japanese small dish bowls and plates. The food was of good quality and very flavorful! Customer service was excellent! Diners are greeted by staff upon entering and thanked when leaving. The old-time servers were very patient, attentive, welcoming, and gracious! Our food orders came out in a timely manner, and the servers, with smiles, frequently asked if everything was okay and if we needed anything else. Hours of operation are: lunch daily from 11a to 2p, dinner from 5p to 9p, closed Wed. Happy hour is from Thurs to Tues from 1:30p to 5p. Located in Kokea Center that looks like a run-down strip mall at Dillingham Blvd and Kokea St, the restaurant interior has a great ambiance as if you were dining in Japan, as it is comfortable and welcoming. It was amazing to see almost every table was taken by dining customers. Reservations are a must, as people are turned away. Good thing I called for lunch reservations at 12:15p on a weekday, which was tha last table available. And the restaurant was packed the entire time that we were there! Free parking in the private lot shared by other businesses, as well as metered street parking. Yohei Sushi has been successful over the past years in its presentation, flavors, taste, and customer service, and we hope to return to try different menu offerings!

Especially love coming here for the marinated meats as they're different from the other AYCE places. The banchan selection is also very plentiful, with no charge for additional refills. When Chef is there, he'll come around the room, talk story with the customers, and bring specials of the day to the table. The servers have also been very accommodating each time we've come here. Ample seating for small or larger parties. And the air vents are built into the tabletop grills, so that you don't leave the place smelling of smoke. On a separate occasion, we've also partaken in the bento boxes that you can grill on your own at home. Lots of meat and rice, banchan always on point. Though my only commentary for this is that our boxes were missing matches, so we had to go to buy some. Also, it didn't feel like there were enough coals to get us through all the meat, so we also had to buy more charcoal. Lastly, there was no choice of sauce, but we had 6 different bento boxes, to which we shared our sauces with each other (ginger/shoyu, Korean BBQ, and some sort of green Peruvian sauce at the time). It was a very interesting experience which we had a lot of fun doing. All in all, I love the way that Chef is always keeping things fresh and interesting here!
