We came on a weekend lunch. It's nice and clean and spacious. It was a bit warm. They had the back door propped open for some reason and it was warm. Maybe they were working on something. We ordered the crispy calamari and ramen. If you review them on yelp and Google, they'll give you a free ramune drink! The calamari was good! It was crispy and came with sauce. The bibibamp is solid. The portion was plentiful. The service was great. We got checked on and made sure everything was to our liking. The ramen was ok. I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with the menu, though maybe my expectations didn't quite match how ramen places typically work. We both ordered the kids' ramen. I added broccoli, cabbage, and garlic to mine. When it came out, the meat was really fatty, so I didn't end up eating any of it--which honestly made me question the whole dish. I found some other things in the broth and had to ask what they were (turned out to be bamboo). I also asked about a creamy-looking blob in the bowl--it was garlic, but not the kind I expected. It was more like something squeezed from a bottle, not grilled or chopped cloves like I had imagined. And the dark bits on the rice? I think they were sesame seeds. I know these questions probably sound silly, but since I'd never had ramen before, I needed to know what I was eating. In the end, neither of us could finish our meals--my son was full, and I just couldn't eat any more. We also got two orders of gyoza, but I barely touched the second one. I think I maxed out on the food (similar to what happened when I maxed out on PBJ sandwiches in K). EXPOSING SHIBU RAMEN Do not support this restaurant, they ABUSE their workers by breaking labor laws and the food is INAUTHENTIC. The chefs work more than 10 hours a day with only one 30 minute break, which is illegal because they are supposed to have two 30 minute breaks for every five hours worked. The servers experience the same, those working a double shift are subject to only one 30 minute break despite working over 10 hours. If the server is working alone, that 30 minute break comes with disruptions. Before June, the owner used a system that was untruthful and took away their lunch pay even though they had disruptions during their 30 minute break. If the worker had a lunch, they had a check box if they lunch or not, rather if they took an uninterrupted 30 minute break. Then it would be considered an unpaid break. The gyozas are frozen and STORE BOUGHT from a store. They are not made fresh. Along with their okonomiyaki and potato croquettes. Their ramen is salty. The owner is Korean and not Japanese, the only thing worth eating is the Korean food. read more

This place has gone down hill. I assume it's the cost of doing business but when we first came they gave thick slices of pork with their ramen. We went regularly but after maybe a year off, we came by last week and I ordered my usual tonkatsu with extra meat. The meat is thinner than bacon so was cooked into a leather strip, and for $5 they added two more thin strips of leather. Server was great (removed xtra meat charge since we didn't even eat what came with it, let alone the extra , ramen was still great, but the eggs just weren't the same and the meat was horrible. Maybe other will like it, especially if they don't want meat, but we will not be returning. Ramen itself with broth, 4 stars, service 5, but if I can't eat and enjoy the whole thing then there is no way I can give it more than 2 stars in total. We miss the way it used to be. read more

I visited Shibu Ramen about an hour before closing with a friend, simply hoping to enjoy some drinks and edamame. Unfortunately, the service we received from our waitress, Grace, was extremely disappointing. From the moment we walked in, we felt unwelcome. We were clearly ignored for several minutes and had to actively get her attention just to be acknowledged. When we finally did, the menus were slid across the table without a single word--no greeting, no warmth, no basic courtesy. Throughout the entire visit, Grace did not check on us once. Our food was dropped off without a word, and at no point were we asked if we needed anything else. Most frustratingly, there was **no last call** or warning that the kitchen was closing--she simply dropped the bill on our table and said, "Kitchen's closed." This level of service was both unprofessional and disrespectful. Everyone deserves to feel welcome, regardless of the time they walk in--especially if the restaurant is still open. I will not be returning to this location and cannot recommend it based on this experience. If you're looking for better customer service and a more welcoming dining experience in the area, I'd recommend checking out Trapper's Sushi or Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya. I truly hope management takes steps to train their staff better and ensure guests are treated with the basic respect all customers deserve. read more

Great addition to the Kent Station area. It's been disappointing over the years to see the management of this shopping center diminish so drastically. We were glad to see a ramen place was added. Overall, we were satisfied with our food. It's comparable to Kizuki. We felt it did the job and we would come back. My favourite ramen place of all time! I've been here way too many times to count and I'll keep coming back. That being said, it's not always a hit. Like any other restaurant, there are some days that they miss. My go-to order is the garlic Tonkotsu with wavy noodles and a side of corn. Generally, the broth is the perfect consistency and not too salty, which lots of flavour. On some days though, it's either too salty or has no taste at all. The meat is usually charred just right. The portions are generous and they give a good amount of everything in the bowl. Some times, they will only give two pieces of veggies. Some days, their egg would be way too over cooked while other days, you'll have a perfectly rubbing egg. It really depends on your chef that day or time of the Generally, their ramen tastes better during a specific time of the day-- afternoon or evening? You go experience it for yourself :) The service is a hit or miss depending on who you get. The young servers there work quicker and harder in my opinion. I believe the older women are family members that run the restaurant together. I stick with the same order, but they have a good variety of items on their menu, such as sushi and curry plates, along with a variety of appetizers and drinks. As you can see in my photos, there is a rice plate. Which is so delicious! I also like ordering their appetizers, and I usually stick with their chicken karaage and takoyaki. However, I have been noticing that their karaage has been getting slightly less portioned over time. I love the high ceilings in the restaurant and as soon as you walk in, you just smell the broth circulating throughout while not too over bearing. After 2 years, a friend of mine and I tried this place out again. We decided to come back and have our other friends join in to see if they changed. If anything, it was just okay. We ordered takoyaki as a shared appetizer and was probably the best part of the meal. For entrees, I ordered a Spicy Miso Tonkotsu and had a spiciness level of 7 out of 10. Couldnt taste the spice at all. You can definitely see it in the broth but it didnt taste much different. The broth reminded me of microwaved ramen from home where you just add water and the flavor will mix with the noodles. Wasnt a huge fan of that taste. My fiance and our other friend ordered Shoyu Ramen and had a spiciness level of 10 out of 10 and they couldnt taste any spice either. The waitress took note so that next time we visit, they will ensure to make it spicier. Their only complaint was that both of them had cold eggs. For drinks, I ordered a milk tea with boba. The boba was too stale. My friend ordered a taro tea with lychee. The lychee was a little stale for him as well. Overall, I dont see myself coming back.
