A few years ago, I purchased over 20 gallons of Ultra Spec paint from this location only to discover that it started peeling in less than 5 years. I shared this information with the store manager and he told me this paint should never be recommended for painting steel pipe. I was then given a contact name and number for a Benjamin Moore representative who could tell me why the coats of paint failed. But again, after numerous phone calls and messages, no one returned my calls. In fact, when I was in the store today another customer overheard my complaint and agreed that this representative was worthless. So it appears this particular paint store has no interest in standing behind their products, especially the ones they recommended for my use. Terri W. 9/23/24

When I Really Need a Hardware Store!…read more Living exactly one mile from a Home Depot it is pretty logical for me to head there when I need something for a home project. But when I really need something that is critical to finishing a project or a home emergency (like a specific size washer, actual plumbing supplies, or even the correct "bit" for my rotary tool) I go the extra mile to Westlake Ace Hardware. No, it is not a "home center" it is a "hardware" store! It shares a large parking lot in a strip mall on MO 291 North, across from the Lee's Summit Historic Cemetery. You are welcomed in through their large assortment of out door plants just outside of the door, and a serious selection of high quality grills and BBQ supplies, then the really "important" stuff lies behind that. Row after row of hardware! Not the prepackaged assortments of washers, screws, hinges, but individual washers, screws and hinges! Come on, do you really need a dozen 10 mm bolts or just one to get your back on the road? Or how about that spacer for your envisioned improvement to your lawn tractor? And then is the replacement rotary switch for your custom headboard going to be found in the plastic bagged parts of a normal home center? If there is any doubt, Westlake Ace Hardware usually has it, and staff that understands you pain and where to find the cure. From replacement door keys, to the proper paint brushes to use with the special paint you finally found for that perfect room color, Westlake has always come through with either what I needed or a recommendation for a replacement item that might work better or is lower in cost. I know that when I go there I am not looking for fancy packaging, but the "thing" I need. Westlake is my port-in-the storm, and sometimes my salvation when I am at a loss to finish that important project - and at a reasonable cost

He came in early enough on a Saturday morning to take a rather large customer delivery before the store opened at 8 so he could be back to open on time. The assortment of random rare wood pieces was the most surprising, yet the board selection is formidable. I bought an ice-cream scoop kit that demands you build it a handle; made a handle for it out of some 25 year-aged osage orange I had sitting around. The kit broke in like 5 ways, so... I don't know, still a great place for wood working enthusiasts. Tools galore, they have so much to play with in there; honestly, first time in, and I spent more than an hour walking around and touching things. They also have a great email system set up, so sign up for that. The location is a little Narnia-esq, what with the lefts and the rights and the straights, and don't get me started on the parking. But worth it I'd surmise. Work some wood; it'll do you good.

I tried Ace Hardware first because the people at this location are usually unfriendly, but Ace was out of what I needed. I went to Spectrum and they said the product was out of stock and took down my information for a special order. I called nearly 2 weeks later wondering if my paint came in and they had no record of my order. Turns out they had it in stock all along! Grrrr. I went to get it and asked for some kind of discount because they screwed up--a paintbrush, 5% off-- something for my inconvenience. They said it was a new employee and they don't give discounts for mistakes. I've worked retail for many years and this is such a crazy policy. I won't come here again and we'll stick with Sherwin Williams from now on.

This is our go to place for Benjamin Moore paint. The color selection for the brand is excellent…read more We have tried Ultra Spec 500, Regal, Aura, and Advance (used for woodwork). Ultra Spec 500 is definitely the best for walls. Regal and Aura are overpriced and tend to drip to due paint viscosity, so I wouldn't use these lines unless you plan on having your home professionally painted. Advance tends to drip as well, so you will need to practice if you plan on using it yourself. Otherwise, I would recommend hiring a professional painter to apply Advance. There seems to be some pricing discrepancies each time I buy in the store. Sometimes they will apply a painter's discount and other times will charge me full price. I have addressed the problem with the store manager on a couple of occasions. My only real complaint is they tend to ignore customers in the store unless they are professional painters. Of course, they make more money on these customers, but they should at least acknowledge a customer when he or she comes in and say how long it will be before they help them. I saw one woman sitting at a table for over 20 minutes without help. Not acceptable. I have gotten to the point that I just write my order down, place it on the counter, and then go to Einstein Bagels to get something to eat. By the time I come back, my order is typically ready.

Been here a handful of times…read more The staff are usually busy but if you catch it just right, the guys are very prompt and usually helpful. Prices, I feel, are hit and miss. Unless you are a painter and order frequent enough, you don't really get preferred pricing. The deals/specials don't happen all the time. No doubt quality seems pretty good as they still seem the standard. Everywhere you as for a color and it's a SW number.
