Horridly Bloated. My friend and I went to enjoy the lunch buffet as we have so many times before. After just eating a little bit we suddenly felt FULL. An off feeling of full. Kind of the opposite of MSG that makes you over eat. We ate some more but not very much at the buffet. Our stomachs filled up like tight balloons. It hurt the rest of the day and all night. Best Indian food in Tucson. Decent vegetarian/vegan selection and tremendously flavorful food. The Chana Masala with paratha is usually my go-to. And, excellent samosas. If you ask them to make your dish spicy, they really will oblige. The service is always really good, even when they're busy, which is often. The clientele is usually a bunch of people from the U of A. Grad students bonding with their peers... undergrads--who want to show off how cultured and cosmopolitan they've become since leaving the nest--like to take their folks here when they come for a visit. It's kind of annoying, but also simultaneously endearing. Haha! The only drawback is that they do not skimp on the oil, so you're likely to get a post-repast rumbling in the tummy if you're sensitive to heaps of oil in your curry. I always do, but still worth it. So if you've a sensitive gut, your stomach will likely literally roar like the Sher-e-Punjab! (I guess you could always say easy on the oil.) Anyways, definitely recommend! read more

This is my second time to Sher-e- Punjab. Their food is absolutely outstanding. They also have good service. Very friendly and helpful. Today they went above and beyond. I was with a friend who cannot eat dairy. We asked about dairy and the server was able to replace the dairy in one dish. But we did not even think that the biryani might have dairy in it. When it came we all realized that it did. The server replaced it with some thing that was non-dairy, no complaint no charge. This is our new favorite Indian restaurant. read more

We went for the lunch buffet. It seemed like a one man show, with the same guy seating everyone, filling water glasses, taking orders, etc. The poor guy seemed a little overwhelmed... but there I go being all sympathetic when my water glass is empty. There was a woman who came out to fill the buffet from time to time. The buffet's size was a bit of a disappointment. I'm used to being able to try a wide range of dishes but for the price I guess it was alright. There were beef dishes, which was surprising but maybe a regional thing. Since their remodel, quality has drastically been reduced. -Masala/Vindaloo/Curry that was once thick has been reduced to a runny consistency. -Chicken dishes have small thin bones throughout (which is not normal for Butter chicken in sauce). -Naan is much more doughy then before. -The owner/manager seems to only have untaught young female servers/checkout attendants (no knowledge of the food, and otherwise more concerned with their phones). What was once a Tucson local favorite has succumb to the inevitable forces of expansion with the outcome being a drastic reduction in quality. This coming from a patron of over 20 years. The new review has been based not on one experience, but by more than 5 in the last 6 months. I really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it was not to be. read more

I'll preface this by saying that I'm probably a bit picky, as I used to live in a city with a lot of East Indian immigrants and a lot of East Indian food. Chere Punjab offers pretty good Indian fare. Not the best I've ever had, but good for Tucson. The wait staff was very friendly and efficient. I ordered chicken tikka masala, a side of rice, and a side of naan. She asked if I wanted it spicy and I said yes, although I didn't think it was spicy at all. Next time, I'll ask for extra extra spicy. The chicken had a nice smoky flavor, and was good if not a bit dry. Prices are about what you would expect for Indian takeout - $14 in total for me. So again, not the best Indian I've ever had, but I would go back again! read more

Wow, had a lovely dinner here this evening. Large place, social distancing and all of the procedures being followed. The ambience is peaceful, the menu is very diverse - meat, fish, vegetarian options. etc., All of the food was delicious, flavorful, and had just enough of spice. They have a very nice selection of reasonably priced beers and wine ($4-$5 glass). The service is excellent, you can take your time/not be rushed, and overall, I highly recommend if you are looking for a nice dinner in a nice restaurant with quality food. The quality of food and service has gone down. I ordered a "nimbu pani" which is an Indian lemonade drink. The person at the cash register came and asked me how it was after I took a sip. One of my most favorite Indian restaurants. Nothing fancy but absolutely delicious meals. Never an issue being seated promptly. A casual dining experience awaits. Service is pleasant. Ambience a bit blahh but still enjoyable. Now onto the real reason to come here... the FOOD: Naan is soft. Garlic is tasty but I usually like the original best. Regardless of your entree of choice, you really cannot go wrong. And although it does not appeal to my level of spiciness preferred (I like it HOT HOT HOT), it has great flavor and is great for the average spicey food eater. My recommendations are the Masala or Vindaloo (Chicken, Shrimp, Lamb... option is yours). Room for dessert? Order the Rice Pudding and Gulab Jaman, mix together and enjoy the creamy sugary treat. read more

So I'm an English guy and in England you can't turn a corner without finding an Indian restaurant. I would argue that besides India, we have some of the best Indian food you can find. I've heard America isn't so great when it comes to Indian cuisine but I was craving a curry and this came recommended by my partner so we went to check it out. Boy was it good. The staff were super polite and attentive, making sure we had drinks throughout our meal and explaining the different dishes to my partner. The wait wasn't long and our food came out hot and fresh and my god, it was lovely. I had the chicken biryani which is a personal favourite of mine. The rice was a little moist looking which worried me when they brought it out but it was just as good as any biryani I've had in the UK. Fresh and flavourful with traditional spices, and perfectly mild like I had asked for. My partner got herself a spicy chicken tikka masala and boy was it spicy. I couldn't eat it but she loved it and ate every last bit of it. The garlic naan and keema naan were the only bit of the meal that wasn't amazing. Both were a little bland on the flavour (keema should have wonderful spices throughout) and the garlic naan was a little too charred in some places. The pilau rice was spot on too with subtle spices making it a joy to eat. It isn't the cheapest place to eat in Tucson but they really, really nail proper Indian food and are worth the spend. read more

We've been dining here for about 17-years. It was always our top choice for Indian! Their authenticity was always top notch! Unfortunately, after our last visit, we will no longer be dining there. Our Dahl and Baingan bharta had no flavor or spices. My eggplant was mostly oil. My friend usually gets the tandoori special and this is the first time it was wet and sweet. It was such an off visit as everything everyone ordered was not good, not the authentic dishes we were accustomed to. We didn't eat the food and proceeded to pay and leave. I spoke with the manager since the servers couldn't help us. The manager then proceeded to tell us that they use ketchup and that was likely the wet and sweet sauce flavor.....I was shocked! I had to remind him that if we wanted ketchup all over our "authentic" Indian food, we would eat next door at McDonalds. He shrugged and offered no explanation. We paid about $80 for food we didn't eat and left. read more

Perhaps the best Indian Cuisine in Tucson- if you don't count locations in Oro Valley then top two for sure. It had been a while since I stopped in to Sher-E. Not sure why other than I am seeking new experiences all the time- but alas, sometimes oldies are goodies. Last Wednesday, I was in the area and my colleges and I were in the craving for Indian. I suggested Sher-E and they are virgins- Heaven help the virgins. This place will spank you into submission with all the spices they have mastered. Let be very clear about this. We are talking spices not just pepper heat, but Turmeric, Ginger, All Spice, Gloves and so much more. You will be panting in delight, dripping in obedience and loving every moment even though I would advise you to be prepared and order a large drink. I prefer the Mango Lassi myself - although it can be on the thick side it will coat your tongue in training in a soothing coat of sweet- tanginess. For my re-introduction to the "training in heat". I had the Veggie Samosa and the Veggie Soup. My colleges ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Aloo Matar, Mix Vegetables, Chicken Makhani and sides of Garlic Naan and Cheese Naan. Of course as a returning trainee I ordered all as "hot" - keep in mind this is a legit Indian place so hot is VERY hot! As I stated, prepare to submit and indulge. Nothing is ever bland here; not even the vegetarian dishes. Most of India understands vegetarian-ism to its core. Understand that when you restrict a body into a steel boned corset (restricting food to meatless-ness) the result can be a very forward presentation of sultry which they have artfully and willfully coaxed from that blessed kitchen. A perfume of which will have you on your knees. Then if you want meat that has been treated right- tenderized and seasoned before being teased slowly in delicately drool worthy sauce then there's the Chicken Tikka Masala (there is a reason this is one of the most ordered item on their menu). I could add a few pages of description for you, but get real- go order yourself a plate and give into your watering mouth already. read more

I came here for dinner tonight and I am pleased to say that it was pretty good! I came here a long time Ago and it wasn't as great as it is now which is why I was a bit hesitant to come back when family members suggested it. The food is very good and the spice levels vary. I am Indian and I can handle spicy, however, their "really spicy" is EXTREMELY spicy and I don't recommend it unless you can eat a hot pepper! Anyway, definitely try it out it's worth a shot considering there aren't too many great Indian restaurants in the area (except my mom's house) read more

When traveling to the American Southwest, what else would you do besides find an amazing Indian restaurant? That is exactly what we did. Located in a rather non-descript storefront in a strip mall that looked like any other was quite possibly the best Indian food I have experienced outside of London. We arrived on a Sunday around 7pm, without a reservation and the place was packed. They told us it would be about a twenty minute wait so we found a spot to stand and readied to wait it out. I never did figure out the host's system for seating people, but that twenty minutes proved to be only about ten, but even if it had been the full projection, it would have been worth it. We went with our standards and we're not disappointed. The serving was more than ample and not that expensive. We had plenty to eat and had some left to take with us. I never would have expected to find such a great Indian food experience in a hole in the wall in Arizona, but I'm glad we did. If I am ever back in the area it is definitely a place I would return to. read more

Really enjoy this place! New to Tucson and have had the lunch buffet and also ordered take out dinner. When you order entrees you can order mild, medium, spicy, or extra spicy. We ordered chicken curry and chicken tilkka Masala both medium. The curry had zero heat but the tikka had a good bite. Next time we'll go up a level on the curry. Obviously lunch buffet is your better deal economically! Would give this.place five stars if rice didn't cost extra. :) read more
