Sheppard Hyundai Eugene did this to my car
Terry A.

This is related to the service department only. This review is accurate and states the facts. We purchased two new Hyundai cars (Santa Fe and Kona), October of 2021 from Kirkland Hyundai. Around 6K miles on the Santa Fe I called Sheppard Hyundai for service advise. The service department could not tell me at what mileage I should bring in my Santa Fe for its first scheduled maintenance. But we did bring it in for its first service right around 6K miles. I waited all day for a phone call, letting me know the car was ready. Finally I called and was told "Oh yeah, its ready". I picked up the car, drove home and then noticed the blemish that was on the drivers side front rim, was still there. Which indicated the tires had not been rotated. This is part of the regular maintenance. I complained and indicated in no uncertain terms that a customer trusts the service department services the vehicle correctly. They never offered to rotate the tires. A few months later my wife takes her Kona in for its first service. Guess what, Sheppard Hyundai service did not rotate the tires on her car either. Again I complained - no offer to rotate the tires. Around 10K miles on my Santa Fe, the front brakes started to vibrate under braking, which usually indicates an issue with the rotors. Not trusting Sheppard Service I went to Les Schwab. They looked at the front brakes and indicated that yes the front rotors need to be either replaced or resurfaced. Parts were not available via Les Schwab. I went to Sheppard, and after a bit of a run around, me calling to Hyundai to complain, Sheppard Service indicated the rotors would be replaced under the 12 month/12K mile warranty. Took my car in for the brake repair, only to be told the rotors would have to be ordered. Should be ready the next day (Friday). I receive a call from Sheppard Service on Friday, indicating the rotors had been replaced, BUT Sheppard Service had damaged the front passenger rim and destroyed the tire. A new tire had to be ordered. I asked what they were going to do about the damaged rim. Only then did they offer to bring in their "wheel guy" to repair the otherwise perfect rim. No offer for a rental car. So I'm without a car for 4 days. I pick up the car on Monday, new tire and an OK repair job on the rim. There is some runout where the repair was made. A slight depression. So the rim is not in the same conditions before it was damaged by Sheppard Service. The only good thing that came out of this repair, was that a TCU update was applied, and now the TCU/DCT shifts are smooth and not so jerky. I did call to Sheppard motor to indicate that the software update did the trick. What did they tell me, "hey can you give us a good review". REALLY? They damaged my car, applied a software update to the TCU, and they want KUDOS? And now to top it all off, there is a droning sound that comes from the front of the card at speed above 40MPH. Is it the new tire? Is it the new rotors. Is it because the pads were not replaced along with the new rotors. (I called to a few brake shops and they ALL indicated that yes, when you get new rotors you replace the pads - Never put used pads on a new rotor). I just don't understand how a service department can be so inept. Is it due to the fact that all warranty work, service is to be done at a Hyundai Service department, and they are the only one in town? I was scheduled to take my care in today to see where the droning sound is coming from, and what do you know........... Sheppard Service called and said they had to reschedule to next week. What a load of crap.

My new 2020 Kona!

From the very first, Joe had our trust and never let us down. The truck was exactly as described, and it was the first time in 35 years we had ever even considered buying a vehicle without a test drive because of that trust. He made our long-distance purchase from the duty station in Seattle work with text, calls, Venmo for the deposit, and lightning fast response time, even with our three week delay that held the truck for picking up when military scheduling allowed. Joe followed through with every detail and made our son's first vehicle purchase a wholly positive one. Extraordinary and impeccable pride and professionalism in an industry where we thought it was impossible to find anything of the kind! We were so impressed, and recommend Autorama and especially Joe Baudichon without reservation.

I made a service appointment online on Sunday night for Monday morning. Pulled in and was greeted by Rene. I was stressed and pretty frazzled. He got me checked in. The good news was that problem was fixed with a software update and they even charged my car. Rene was super sweet and walked me to my car to make sure everything was ok.

When I think of how many people they are stealing from, it honestly makes me sick to my stomach. I took my GMC Sierra in for a few things. Never again. When they give you a quote check on your phone. You'll see. An oil gauge for my truck should run $188-$208. It's a $58 part and the rest is labor. They quoted me $580. You wouldn't believe what they charged me for a simple brake job. Over $3000 with an oil change. ( And I asked them to check two running lights ) They already had the truck for a couple of days before I caught them. The last thing I wanted to do was to have them sabotage my vehicle because I wouldn't pay their outrageous prices. Learned my lesson. My new shrieking brakes can be heard from a mile away & they feel worse. At first, I was puzzled on the prices. I mentioned it to the guy who wrote it up. He agreed it was high. Midway through, I complained to management, & they said that I could get the employee rate and they too agreed my quote was high. I got the call that my truck was ready. The lady said she had the final bill... somewhere around $3000. Not sure what kind of discount I received, guess they rip off employees too. Because I got the money together, went in there to pay, and the bill had jumped up to $3200 in an hour for no reason. Just tacked it on. They said they replaced 2 running light bulbs for free. Rich... These are our local GM representatives. A stain on Eugene.

Greg is incredibly helpful, patient, and knowledgeable about the vehicles. I really appreciated his no-pressure approach to sales. He went above and beyond for me, even spending a significant amount of time measuring a Subaru Forester to make sure it would fit perfectly for me and my dog when we go camping. When it came to getting the exact car I wanted, Greg set up a dealer trade. Unfortunately, the dealership accidentally gave away my trade-in vehicle. To fix the situation, Greg spent his day off driving past Seattle to secure and trade for the only Forester available in my preferred color. He completely honors his word and does whatever it takes to look after his customers' wants. Greg provides exceptional service, and I highly recommend working with him! I love my new Forester.

After getting towed 70 miles back to Kendall Subaru, the problem was diagnosed (along with a thorough overview of some other, less critical issues) on Saturday. The tech stayed late, and came in early on Monday to get us back on the road. I rented one of Kendall's cars for use while ours was in the shop, so we got to enjoy Eugene's restaurants and nearby hiking trails. Dylan, the service writer, was clear and concise on the issue, accepted my deferral of the other issues, and kept me up to date on progress. Nice! Costs for the transmission repair came out precisely on estimate. The diagnostic cost was folded in to the overall charge. While wandering around the showroom, Matt came out, recognized that I had a car being serviced, and showed me a 2025 hybrid Forester - snazzy! Matt was patient, explained Kendall's sales process, and took me out on a test drive. Calm, professional, informative. If we were to contemplate a new car purchase, we'd seriously consider buying from Matt at Kendall, flying up, spending a nice weekend, and driving back.

After your Toyota vehicle is serviced at a shop it is good practice to verify that the service work…read morerequested was actually done and done correctly. For example, decades ago my 1971 Ford F-100 pickup truck's oil pump failed. An independent shop replaced the oil pump. After driving the truck home I looked underneath the truck to check it out. I was surprised to find that the oil pan mounting bolts were all loose... A more recent example at Eugene's Kendall Toyota for routine maintenance: Oil change, tire rotation, tire pressure check, air and oil filters, etc. The most frequent problem: The tire valve stem caps were not tightened. And after one service visit, one cap was missing. Maybe a loose cap fell off on the way home. A more serious problem was over-filling the crankcase with oil. See the first photo. As shown, the oil level was above the dipstick "full" mark (right side in the photo), estimated at 3/8-qt high. As shown in the 2nd photo, I used a Mighty-Vac hand vacuum pump with about 2 feet of small white plastic tubing to suck the excess oil out, via the dipstick tubing, into the plastic container shown in the photo. The white tubing was inserted into the dip stick tubing as far down as it would go, then the excess oil was sucked out with the Mighty-Vac pump. Then there's the tire TPWS synchronization problems with a 5-tire rotation. Yes, I have five full size tires all with TPWS sensors. That took three visits to Kendall to get them up to speed on how to do a 5-tire rotation so that the TPWS works properly without error codes. Given the above, I now check the oil level dip stick, the tire valve stem caps and the TPWS before I drive away from the shop.

Completely inoperable. Supposedly there was an "extensive inspection" on this truck, even though it broke down completely 8 days after I bought it, and it had to be trailed back to Kendall Ford of Eugene. While in the shop for nearly 4 months, numerous parts were replaced to include the high pressure fuel pump, the air filter, the air intake, and turbo flanges. But they never corrected the original issue and it had to be sent to multiple dealerships to even become functional again. 8 days after I bought it. Less than 2 years later, the same issue is still prevalent and worsening (electronic throttle control + DPF failure). I contacted the dealership to resolve this directly, and the only solution offered was to trade the vehicle in at a significantly reduced value (worth almost nothing, as it is once again, not functional) with no acknowledgment of the recurring issue despite numerous service records. I will never go back here for any reason. They value their dollar over you, and aren't shy about it. Even knowing I was a veteran coming off a serious car accident didn't stop them from selling me a vehicle that broke within 8 day of purchase. Do you really think they care more about you? Thank you for reading. I will update this review based on how Kendall chooses to handle this situation. Please comment if you want any source documentation at all.

My mechanic recommended this dealership over the one in Salem but I didn't find it to be more personal or professional. Comparing it to my dealership experience from where I used to live, I found them to be needing some improvements with: 1) Streamlining the intake experience. It wasn't just me. There was another customer that was waiting inside the inner driveway area for personnel to come out. I was early so I waited about 10 minutes and then I went inside. The check in person did apologize but I'm still not sure if I was supposed to come inside or wait. There should be signs since it's not an intuitive process. And like I say, the other customer was confused too. 2) The music in the waiting area was way too loud. I could not concentrate, even with my earbuds in to block out the sound. I asked nicely if they could turn it down but it didn't happen while I was there. 3) I just felt like an annoyance really. Nothing particularly friendly happening here. I don't want to go back there. I think my next car will be a Toyota so I don't have two meh Kia dealerships to choose from and I can just stick with my mechanic that specializes in Toyota. My car only came with one key fob and they are over a hundred dollars each for a second one, repairs were not completed despite being told the car was ready for pick up, there was no communication during the inspection, there was misrepresentation of warranty costs & options by the sales associate, and so on. When Sales Manager Randy was made aware of my concerns, he took accountability and action to correct the issues to the best of his ability. If after reading the reviews you still decide to car shop here, make sure you connect with a sales person who has been on the job at Kia for a bit, has some knowledge of the products and inventory available, doesn't use their personal devices to store sales related identifying information, and doesn't outright lie to you. If you made it this far and opt to buy a car here, I worked with Finance Manager Tanner who was easy to work with and helpful when coordinating payments, making corrections to paperwork, understanding warranty info, and tacking on a warranty to my purchase prior to taking possession of the vehicle. Make sure you ask questions & get answers to your satisfaction, read the paperwork thoroughly, if they promise to correct an issue on the car, make sure it's added to the "we owe" statement in your contract, and if something is not right, say something. Good Luck!
