I started research for a new vehicle this spring and after hours of research and test driving the final choices - I was leaning towards a 2026 Subaru Forrester Hybrid. When I visited the lot in Eugene to do some additional research, I met salesperson Matt. He LISTENED to me! He walked around with me to talk about the regular and Hybrid versions of Forrester and answered so many of my geeky questions and understood I was doing my research. At the end of the conversation, we exchanged numbers and he encouraged me to call when I was ready. I was ready a few weeks ago! Unfortunately Matt was out however I was fortunate to be paired up with salesperson Jayden. She too listened, answered all my questions and we had fun! We took 2 Forrester vehicles for test drives - and I knew after driving the Hybrid - it was my car...my first Subaru! Transmission issues resolved! While driving from Seattle to Los Angeles, our 2016 Forester's Check Engine and ATL Oil Temp lights came on. After getting towed 70 miles back to Kendall Subaru, the problem was diagnosed (along with a thorough overview of some other, less critical issues) on Saturday. The tech stayed late, and came in early on Monday to get us back on the road. I rented one of Kendall's cars for use while ours was in the shop, so we got to enjoy Eugene's restaurants and nearby hiking trails. Dylan, the service writer, was clear and concise on the issue, accepted my deferral of the other issues, and kept me up to date on progress. Nice! Costs for the transmission repair came out precisely on estimate. The diagnostic cost was folded in to the overall charge. While wandering around the showroom, Matt came out, recognized that I had a car being serviced, and showed me a 2025 hybrid Forester - snazzy! Matt was patient, explained Kendall's sales process, and took me out on a test drive. Calm, professional, informative. If we were to contemplate a new car purchase, we'd seriously consider buying from Matt at Kendall, flying up, spending a nice weekend, and driving back. read more

I received the Gas Cap recall recently. Called the Service Department for an appointment to install the new O-Ring. Was informed that they only do ONE install per day. Today is April 13th. The earliest they can perform the work is May 18th!! That's 36 days waiting for a 10 minute job. This is NOT good customer service!! read more

Had a problem with my Crosstrek on the way down to Eugene. Called Kendall and they said to bring it in and described how to find the right door to drive up to. They took the car in right away and in less than an hour they told me what was wrong and had refastened the piece that had gotten loose so I could get back on the road. (They would have had to order the part so couldn't get it replaced before I had to come back to Portland.) Beware of Sheena Howell. Basically the service department tried to STEAL my car. I took my 2018 Subaru Impreza in for a diagnostic. I had some oily residue in my coolant tank, but no overheating issues, and the car was running fine so I thought it might be a oil cooler issue instead of the head gasket. Paid 175$ dollars for the diagnostic. The gentleman in the garage was going to hook up the machine to give me the error codes, to which Sheena Howell, the woman working the desk at the service department told him not to (first red flag, but I figured the results where part of the diagnostic I was to receive), this was hours before closing, so I walked to a nearby theater and saw a movie. Sheena called me right before closing sayin they just finished and telling me she had to talk to me in person about my car and if I can get there in 15 mins. I had to practically run back, but made it in time. She told me my car needed a complete engine rebuild and it would cost me $8,000. I told her my car is running fine so I think I might take it for a second opinion. She looked visibly nervous and switched tactics, telling me she can get me in touch with sales so they can get me in another car, but would have to take in my car as a highly devalued trade in, considering the rebuild. I told her I think I'm gonna take my car to a hotel and think about it. She said the classic "you were lucky to have made it here line" and offered a Uber to the hotel instead. I said "no thanks" and took my car out of the lot and to a hotel. The next day the car was still running fine so I decided to finish my drive to the California Bay Area. Took my car to a known mechanic who confirmed the oil cooler issue and had it fixed quickly and for just over $600 including parts and labor. She never sent me the results to my diagnostic that I paid for either, I was going to show them to my normal mechanic. Basically she ripped me off the price of a diagnostic(which was all lies)! And tried to say my car was basically totaled, so they can fix a part with three bolts and resell my car, while having me restart on another car loan! It's been well about 6 months with the new oil cooler and the car has had no issues since. The treatment you will get as a customer here is straight up criminal! I may be pursuing legal action. BEWARE SHEENA HOWELL!! My heart goes out to the people who have fallen victim to her fear tactics. read more

The finance department manager is incompetent in basic customer service. She will just sit there and waste your time. After getting tricked into a maintenance plan and extended warranty, after specifically telling them I wasn't interested in the plans. They will continue to try to sell you on their plans. DONT do any business with their finance team. DONT BE TRICKED INTO GETTing an overpriced maintenance contract for $1600 or there extended warranty for $2300. Go in there with a mission and don't them waste your time sitting there, because the finance manager is to lazy/ or how they don't respect your privacy. read more

My power steering went out midway between the coast and Bend. I had the car towed to the closest Suburu dealer which was Kendall Suburu in Eugene. Gabe at the service desk was very empathetic to my problem (me being of a certain age and on my way to see grandkids for an early Christmas.) He was able to get my car in for repair within the hour! I was there waiting for under 3 hours by the time repairs were completed (a broken belt that powered the steering.) The waiting area was pleasant with a variety of tables and chairs, an expresso machine, and free snacks. The shop was within walking distance to a shopping center if you wanted to do something while waiting. Overall, I was quite impressed with them being able to get me back on the road that same day and highly recommend this Suburu shop for keeping your car running! Having done too many radio remotes at car dealers in the past, I was EXTREMELY hesitant about having to go into Kendall Subaru. Boy was I wrong on this one. In Sept 2022, I purchased a 2018 Outback. The sales team didn't offer info on the car but put it on me to ask questions. Tried to sell me a warranty for a ridiculous price. After declining with the sales person, the guy I signed paperwork with offered me the same warranty for half the price! Why the games, Kendall?? Furthermore, shortly after taking the car home I found the tires to be leaking and Kendall would not cover them because they were "factory tires". 6 months later my battery failed. Again, not covered because it was from Les Schwab. Both of these were components of the car they sold me- how is that not covered?! Based on this, and the deceptive sales people I will never go back to them. I plan on returning to Lithia Toyota of Springfield for their top notch service and honest and professional staff. Read this before purchasing a vehicle with Kendall Auto. I think what truly defines a good company is what happens when there is adversity or problems with the transaction after the fact, and because of this, I have never been more disappointed in a company in my entire life. My partner and I purchased a 2016 ProMaster City from Kendall Subaru in February 2023 after 5 months of shopping for our perfect vehicle. It was going to be our camper and my "apartment" when I went off to Grad School. We started working on it and spent about 20 hours and $1000 in materials. One month later, we received a notification from the DMV that the car we purchased has a branded title and we needed to refile to reflect that. Obviously this was not disclosed to us or our bank because the bank loan does not finance branded titles. The dealership has stopped returning our phone calls, and the only thing they offered us was to unwind the deal as if they were doing us a favor, failing to mention that this is what they are legally obligated to do for the bank because it is a fraudulent contract. They have made zero effort to rectify the situation (i.e. finding us a replacement) and have been spinning their wheels for almost 2 months trying to undo this "clerical error." There is zero accountability or effort being made by them to fix this problem. We are working strictly with the bank now. Every time the bank tries to contact them, they receive some sort of run around about how they are still working on rectifying this "error." For the record, it was obviously not a clerical error, the vehicle was clearly totaled because the first thing our mechanic asked us when he lifted it up was, "has this vehicle been in a major accident?" This was immediately suspicious because nothing came up on the carfax they provided. According to the DMV it was reported totaled in 2017. Meanwhile, we are making payments on a loan for a vehicle we cannot drive, because if something did happen to it, we would be obligated for the original loan amount as it is not able to be properly insured. We have waited almost a month to return the vehicle and get our money back, they have finally been given a deadline by the back to either confirm it was totaled or "fix" the clerical error. This company is the definition of a "sleazy car salesman." They are only concerned about covering their backside, and could not care less about the money, time, effort, and stress that has gone into this vehicle. I absolutely do not recommend purchasing a vehicle from Kendall auto, if something goes wrong, through no fault of your own, they will not help you. They will only waste your time trying to make it look like they care about the situation when really they are just trying to make their obvious error disappear at the consumers expense. The entire purchase was so smooth, from the sales team to signing the contract with Corey, it was like visiting a friend, that is how I feel about the entire team at Kendall Subaru. Then I was transferred to Randy Joe for the financial piece for straightforward finances and again my many questions were answered in plain simple language. After getting a restart battery replaced on a Crosstrek hybrid for $631, I later found out I could have gotten an equivalent battery at Batteries Plus on Coburg Rd for around $225 - $250. Car dealerships are notorious for ripping off customers and Kendall Subaru is no exception. I expect to pay a bit more at the dealer, but this difference was outrageous. They refused to take a return on the battery so I basically paid $400 more for the battery than was necessary. The other issue is it took 26 days and 3 visits to Kendall to get a proper diagnosis of the problem and get it fixed. Two times they had equipment failures that prevented them from diagnosing the problem and they didn't have backup equipment. The second time I left Kendall, the car literally died on the road (E. 11th). I spoke to Kara per the request below. The excuses on why the battery cost was so high were not fully honest in my opinion when she said a non-Subaru branded battery may cause error messages. That's possible, but a battery with the same specs won't cause error messages just because it's branded with a different name. A battery with the same specs is no more or less likely to cause dashboard error messages than a battery with the Subaru name on it. Same goes for oil changes, air filters, etc. The difference is Subaru and Kendall are making A LOT more money off of the customer. Also, if you have two arms and a couple of tools, you can install it yourself and save the $64 install fee Kendall charged to put the battery in my car. The bottom line is this dealership grossly overcharges for services and I have lost confidence in them. read more

I had ordered a Outback thru them. Was told they would work with me and no matter what could get me into the car I wanted. Four months of excitement and waiting. Being polite and understanding did nothing. They didn't even let me test drive nor have the car waiting for me when I got there. They took all my information before I even saw the car I ordered. I got to walk around it. Open all the doors and sit in it for not 15 seconds before being told the paper work was ready for me and it was ridiculous. They wanted to charged me for literally every fucking thing as if it was on the fucking lot the whole time. I've NEVER IN MY LIFE. Drove over to look at possible newer cars as myI2001 Lexus was getting old. I was contacted by Cole Phipps (salesperson). All went fine until near the end. I noticed he didn't have any business cards with him. He assured me that I would be able to get the battery tender which was in the Lexus returned to me. So far, I am still waiting. He also didn't make much effort to assist with getting the old license plates out of the metal cases. After mentioning it to my husband, he thought that was not good. While my car was being serviced, I rented a car (a new Subaru Crosstrek) from Kendall. After I returned the rental (having driven a total of 8.4 miles and with the tank showing "full"), Kendall sent me an email asking me to authorize an additional $12 charge. I called to question the charge and two days later received a voicemail message claiming that the rental car's tank had been emptied by 1.5 gallons. Hmm -- If that were true, the rental got less than 6 miles per gallon. Then, without waiting for me to authorize the additional charge, it appeared on my credit card record! read more

I had a recall letter from Subaru of America extending my warranty to cover a parking brake switch which was causing the ignition key to stick. As I'd had six or seven instances of the problem, I booked it into Kendall Subaru in Eugene despite my considerable misgivings about the dealership. The vehicle has 34,000 miles on it. On arrival, the service rep examined the letter carefully as if he had not yet seen the recall, looked it up and agreed there had been a number of such returns. I explained that the problem had been intermittent and had not occurred that morning but had happened a half-dozen times in the past month and a half. His response was that if the techs couldn't duplicate it now, they would not honor the warranty, and anyway there would be an inspection charge of $100+. It seemed he didn't believe I'd had the problem. Dealerships can be expensive, but this feels rapacious - again. I had similar difficulties with Kendall in 2020 over a maintenance agreement which cost me $1,289 for four inspections/oil changes. This agreement had been extended nationally, but Kendall claimed not to know that and said I was out of warranty. Subaru America had to contact them to honor it; Kendall pared it down to $187 for an oil change and brakes flush, but would not cover changing differential fluids, a normal part of the service. The local 'service' manager seemed never to be available, and as they probably expected, I gave up in disgust. I have had a number of great experiences getting my car serviced at this dealership. I have been to a few different dealerships, some of which I found to be rather shady, but I have always felt well taken care of here and that I can trust the advice of their technicians. If there is one thing that stands out about this place, it's that they clearly understand keeping a customer and doing right by them is an important, business-smart decision to make. They aren't trying to sell you things you don't need and they are clear about pricing. Just one example, I came in recently after hearing some rattling from my car. I figured it would be a quick fix or that they may just say "It's not going to hurt your car", but better safe than sorry right? They said diagnosis would cost around $180, but after looking at it, it was a loose bolt that they could fix quickly and they didn't charge me a dime. That's the kind of customer service that nets you a customer for life, and Kendall Subaru delivers it every time. Every time I have taken my Subaru here to fix and issue, after they are done they add on several other issues that were never mentioned beforehand. As an example, paid $1200 for diagnostics and repair of my AC. Right after they finished they told me the work that they completed might not have actually been the issue and that it would cost another $900 to complete the repair. Wtf was the diagnostic fee for? Also, you will never speak with an actual mechanic and are stuck dealing with sales people. I want to speak with the person that is actually working on my car so they can explain and visually show me what the issues are, not a salesman. read more
