All of the bedrooms are upstairs and the living room, dining room, outdoor patio and kitchen are on the first floor. There were four of us and we decided to spring for a few extra dollars for the Penthouse condo because it has two Master Bedroom suites that are really on an equal par. Both have king size beds, new bathrooms and Smart TV's with incredible picture quality and full internet! Who has that at home? The houses, hotels and condos in Catalina have always been a little funky but the Penthouse condo is in a league of its own. The hot tub on the rear deck is brand new and clean and it was all ours. To sip our wine and look at the stars from the Jacuzzi in total privacy was quite the experience. The rear deck is secluded as there are no other buildings above or around it. You are truly alone and during the day it gets quite warm so I laid out for a total body sun tan and it was worth it. The front patio off of the living room has a great view of the ocean and Casino so staying in this place was definitely special. The front patio has outdoor seating, so we also enjoyed ourselves with the view of the lights at night too. The second master bedroom suite also has a view from the bed and has its own balcony upstairs. Even the third bedroom with the twin beds has a view. There was plenty of space in the living room, dining area and kitchen and it was fully appointed with all of the pots, pans and dishes that were of high quality. It was like living in a fully equipped home. The one thing I loved was having a washer and dryer right in the unit. We felt so lucky to experience this place and for the price, it was a bargain. I hope the owners keep the rent where it is because we are coming back. We stayed in those small hotel rooms in the past and all I can say is "never again". We walked to town in the evenings, it was a couple of blocks, ate dinner and returned to our elegant condo. It was a little sad to leave because we had such a great time. We took care of this place just like it was ours.

No other Catalina Island hotel has a private Jacuzzi, Internet and a Baby Grand Piano! Great for the romantic couple or a total of 8 people for weekly rentals. The Penthouse condo has views of the mountains and ocean by day and the lights of the City of Avalon by night. Most condos can be quite warm during the summer. This condo rental is unique because it has windows on all four sides of the unit allowing breezes to gently flow through the entire unit.

They offer water, both regular and cucumber. They also have a great luggage holding service so if you needs to check out before your boat leaves, you can have them hold your bags or if you arrive before check in. The rooms are very nice and feel very clean! The bed was big and comfortable, what I didn't like was have no chair in the room, I like to be able to sit not on my bed, but the bed, king size, was so big, there's no room for a chair. The sink is also separate from the toilet and shower, which has benefits, like I can get ready while my husband showers, but it made the bathroom feel very empty, also there were no counters in the bathroom area, so you couldn't set down tampons or your phone or clothes anywhere in the room except on the closed toilet lid, which isn't my favorite thing to do. May finding a small side table or something to put here would be really helpful. In general it is beautiful and very comfortable. I will definitely be back!

Regular king room this time, no suite. First problem...no one at the boat dock to pick us up & transport our luggage as promised. Next...No coffee maker in room. A mile walk from the elevator to our room. I've had larger rooms on a cruise ship than this room. We checked in at 12:30 & were told by Brian he would expedite our room cleaning as checkin was at 4:00, but he would put a rush on it. Yay!!! Our friends were handed their keys as their room was already ready. Yippee! Oh WAIT! When they opened the door to their room, people's luggage, shoes & backpacks were still in the room! Hence, we toured the town for a couple of hours & had lunch. Other couple was notified their room was ready (again). We all returned about 2:35. They got their keys as did many other new guests checking in. Brian said our room was still not ready. It's now 3:15, we're sitting in the lobby waiting, & more guests are checking in...our room is still not ready. At 3:40 we appeal to Arthur who ignores the promises made by Brian & basically insinuates "too bad, so sad." We finally receive our keys at roughly 3 minutes before 4:00pm. I asked for the manager's name as I was curious why numerous other check-ins received keys after we had been there for several hours. Zero customer service. Lies from Brian. Maybe Brian wanted us to "grease his palm" in addition to the $950.00 we already paid. After we finally got to our room & laid down to rest, the manager calls. I was too tired & too frustrated to talk with him (Chris). Bottom line...it's obvious they don't hire enough help to turn the rooms over quick enough to accommodate new arrivals OR ??? A 4:00 checkin is absurd for any hotel & especially an overpriced one! Public area carpets are filthy. Carpets in room are worn. Never again!!! Keep searching! Lots of other user friendly hotels to choose from.

She reached out before we even arrived on the island and offered to store our luggage until the room was ready. This easily saved us over 100 dollars in locker rentals. That kind of thoughtful communication made a huge difference and set the tone for a wonderful trip. Amber was sweet, helpful, and made us feel genuinely welcomed. The location is absolutely unbeatable. It was a quick 5 minute walk from the ferry, and they held our bags until 4 o'clock which was perfect because our ferry left at 4:30. It was also only a 2 minute walk to the Pleasure Pier, 3 minutes to mini golf, 4 minutes to Vons grocery store, and about 10 minutes to snorkel at Lovers Cove. If you want to explore the casino or snorkel there as well, that was just a 12 minute walk. We really loved how central everything was -- we never needed a golf cart or shuttle. As for the room, the Seashell Room was much roomier and nicer than expected. The bed was comfortable, the space was clean, and the bathroom had a large spa tub with great water pressure and hot water. The complimentary shampoo and conditioner smelled amazing, and they even provided earplugs. We did not end up needing them because everyone at the hotel was quiet and respectful at night. We were on the ground floor with a private side entrance that led to a cozy patio area with tables and chairs where we could relax. Another unexpected perk was the rooftop access. We were able to use the rooftop space both before and after checkout. My boyfriend used it for stargazing at night and said it was absolutely beautiful. There is a table up there for meals, and it looks like guests are allowed to grill as well. Between the thoughtful staff, amazing location, great amenities, peaceful environment, and unique spaces like the rooftop and patio, this stay was absolutely worth it. I highly recommend the Seashell Room if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing, and budget friendly place with charm.

Long story short, after first one night we had to leave! I showed up at Venessa's desk telling her the story and in no time (hotel close to fully booked-summer break!), She found us a 2 queen room, got us an early complimentary check in (we've stayed at Metropole numberous time), but offered us a champagne in the room. What a hospitality! We did not expect this type of compation and problem solving, a true representative of Hotel Metropole. Now the pros: Location is amazing, navigation around the hotel or around it is perfect, close to everything, especially the breakfast shop on presmises and of course customer service. The room was exceptionally clean, I saw the service ladies actually mopping the floors after vacancy of other rooms. cons: second floor rooms overlooking the courtyard, get loud because of the shops. If you want to sleep in passed 9am, it's not happening. For some reason, shop people like to roll their garbage out either 6am or 11pm...at least when we stayed there which was June 9-12, 2026.

After complaining, they moved us to a cramped king + twin sofa that was completely inadequate. They had already given away the room we reserved. They then stuck us in a depressing basement-level room with a terrible view of nothing but a wall, poles, and mechanical equipment. No operable windows -- just stale air. This is false advertising. Their "Deluxe" rooms do not deliver the views or comfort promised. We lasted one night and fled to the Atwater, where we immediately got a proper family room. The contrast was shocking. Management's response was a polished non-apology that called it a simple "mix-up" while offering to waive fees as a favor after ruining our trip. This was repeated incompetence. Do not book here. Hotel Metropole overpromises and delivers frustration; and you'll be stuck in a dark room underground with no operable windows. Stay elsewhere in Catalina.

Great LOCATION, 3-7 minutes walk to beach and restaurants - but then, Catalina is very small so you can say that any other place would offer the same thing. The "Cottage" looked cute and promising from the outside. It had a cute fridge that proved helpful. The inside .... Old, sad, super basic with no attempts whatsoever to lighten it up. The beds were comfy there was AC, so that was good. But you truly felt as if you were inside a bad make shift box with two beds , a tiny tiny moldy shower. A tiny vanity with a tiny mirror. The bedroom space was clean, but the tiny shower was very uncomfortable. If I was the owner of that place I would add a cheap full length mirror, add some shelving for bags , a picture, I dunno something to make it more comfortable and mostly important clean that shower mold lines. The lobby offered good coffee. This place has potential to be better, but does it want to?

After removing the bedding, we discovered what appeared to be a large blood stain on the mattress that had clearly been covered up rather than properly addressed or the mattress replaced. This was not a small spot or minor issue -- this was human contamination hidden beneath the sheets where guests were expected to sleep. While the hotel did refund our entire stay, there truly was no other acceptable resolution given the severity of the situation. Refunding us does not erase how disturbing and unsanitary this experience was. As hospitality professionals ourselves, we know the standards that should be followed regarding guest safety, cleanliness, and biohazard protocols, which is exactly why this was so shocking to us. This was not simply an oversight in housekeeping -- it reflects a serious failure in hotel sanitation and management procedures. Guests should never have to question whether their sleeping environment has been properly cleaned and sanitized. We left extremely disappointed and honestly horrified that this condition was knowingly left for incoming guests.
