We've been staying at Catalina Courtyard Suites one to two times a year since 2021, and it is hands down the best property in Avalon, especially for a family. We usually bring our twin teenagers, and being able to book either the connected family room or one of the ocean view suites gives us the perfect amount of space. We've tried several other places on the island to compare: Atwater is beautiful but the rooms are just too small, El Terado Terrace is great but that uphill walk from the beach is a rough way to end the day, and Hotel Metropole is a solid location but right against the Friday and Saturday live music. Catalina Courtyard Suites gives us the ideal location without any of those drawbacks. They have a wonderful setup of complimentary snacks and drinks, and our absolute favorite routine is hanging out by the firepit with the evening music right before heading to bed. This latest trip was particularly special thanks to the staff. Violet made our check-in amazing with thoughtful recommendations and an incredibly kind gesture of appreciation. Ignacio also went out of his way several times to help us with everything from our room blinds to the fire pit. Highly recommended--we wouldn't stay anywhere else! read more

We stayed here for our 5th anniversary and it was such a sweet homey place to stay. Lisa checked us in on Sunday and she was so pleasant and accommodating. They have a place to store your bags so you can walk around town or go get breakfast, like we did, until check in time. She was sweet enough to call us early when our room was available. When we checked out, they allowed us to leave our bags so we could enjoy the day, browse the town without dragging our bags around! It was like staying at a friend's place. The property has beautiful greenery and a fire pit on at night! Open area to sit and have a glass of wine at night or breakfast in the morning. Just a sweet place to relax. this is such a cute hotel! very clean! hospitality is awesome! nice courtyard with fireplace! coffee, tea, juices, continental foods available 24/7! spending our 37th anniversary here! This is a really great property. It's a bit dated but it has everything you need. Our room was clean and equipped with a refrigerator and microwave. The sink didn't drain in the bathroom but other than that everything was in working condition and the bathroom had a huge tub. They keep a room in the courtyard stocked with yogurt, coffee and pastries. The only downside is that no one is at the property at night or in the early morning so you better get extra towels and toilet paper before the staff goes home!! read more

Stayed here for a couple of days while at Catalina Island. At first glance, this was a really cute and nice suite. The exterior features a patio where you can sip hot chocolate next to a fire. There are two floors and we stayed on the second floor. The stairs leading up to the second floor were a little scary so I recommend going to the street adjacent and that'll take you directly to the second floor (back area open until night). One other thing that was weird is the front desk. Usually at other hotels I've been to, the front desk is always available but at this suite, they close quite early. One thing that I did appreciate was unlimited food. At the cafeteria (small room), there were a bunch of cookies, pastries, tea, coffee, etc. We were able to stock up on snacks as we went about our day and took full advantage of it. Now let's talk about the inside of the room. We stayed in a 2b 2b room and it was split into two separate rooms. The main issue was the restroom. There were a lot of small flies around the shower and it wasn't super clean. There were a couple of issues we ran into with the water not heating hot enough as well. Overall, this was a decent stay with very nice views. If I were to come back, I'll probably want to live in an airbnb instead as that might be cheaper. read more

My wife and I stayed here for a milestone anniversary and Violet took such good care of us. She arranged for our room to be decorated with flower petals and for chocolates to be delivered to our room. She also accommodated us with an early checkin and a late checkout based on our ferry time. This place has a great courtyard we could access for coffee and pastries before and after our stay as well. Really nice little spot to stay when I'm on Catalina Island. The hospitality was icing on the cake.

I highly recommend staying at this charming hotel. My large family just stayed in the two ocean suites which was perfect. We were able to go back and forth via the balcony and able to gather in the large living areas. The views were spectacular. One of the best parts of our stay was being able to meet the owners, Rocky and Jacob, who spent time sharing the great stories of the history of the hotel and made my birthday celebration great. read more

I don't want you to waste your money like we did!!! ***If I could give this hotel negative stars I would*** Our room 509 on the ground level was the LOUDEST hotel room I've ever even stayed in. Directly above is the passage way to the lobby as shown in the photo which people are constantly using that as a main path for back and fourth. It is so loud you can't even hear yourself think. ALL day ALL night. We asked immediately if we could trade rooms once we got into the room and hearing how loud it was. The manager said "oh we're sold out" so that means I have to suffer?? And to top it off we had a bench outside our room so people could smoke and eat. (Which woke us after falling asleep at 2am) Started happening bright and early at 6:05am!!! Upon check out - we handed our keys back to the manager and he asked "how was our stay" I responded "this has to be by far the worst hotel experience ever and the loudest hotel - we didn't sleep. We spent a lot of money to stay here and picked you based on your reviews. And it's a shame that you allow people to stay in those rooms knowing this. The manager said nothing. How unprofessional of a hotel manager to have zero response! And he knew the day before we were not happy. My suggestion for anyone who wants to stay here for a relaxing vacation on Catalina island DONT!! Stay very very far away from this bottom of the barrel motel of a hotel. It's an embarrassment to the other hotels in the area that actually care about there customers and know how to do good business. read more

Positives-Really close to restaurants and Main Street. Staff nice. Room relatively clean and beds were comfortable. Negatives-Room we were in had view of concrete staircase and hotel golf cart. This wasn't really described well in posting. The room looked like there had been some recent improvements but the bathroom- especially tile, bathtub, including old mineralized fixtures, shower curtain, and walls needed some improvements. All were old, or a curtain that barely fit over tub, and mismatched paint on the walls. The floors in bathroom also seemed like not the best cleaning job had occurred prior to our arrival. While the hotel did offer some "snacks" for breakfast, everything was prepackaged and not the best selection even if you are only looking for a quick continental style breakfast. Overall- the price of the room really didn't seem to be worth what you received. However- that being said there was a notice from management that the hotel was under new ownership and they are in the processes of making updates. Wish them all the best on that. read more

I brought my 13 year old to Catalina for the weekend and booked a stay here at Catalina courtyard suites, and it was awesome. The absolute only complaint I have is that the WiFi was pretty janky. It was hard to watch anything on TV or on our iPad. But the hotel was so cute, clean and everyone there was professional and kind. We had a garden view room and it was so beautiful at night with the fire pit and in the morning with your coffee. We loved our experience here and we will definitely come back next time we come to Catalina. read more

Overall, a lovely stay. Location is great. Hotel is a quick walk from the main port of entry and right next to all the shops/restaraunts while still off the busy street. Very quaint hotel, beds were extremely comfortable and room was spacious. Property is old and the bathrooms were outdated, however, things seem to be pretty well maintained and still felt clean. My only critiques were that 1) the continental breakfast was lacking (consisted of coffee, tea, juice, muffins and packet oatmeal) and 2) there is a courtyard light that shines very brightly into the hotel rooms. My room did not have a blind, and therefore it was hard for me to fall asleep at night with this light shining into my room. Apparently the lights turn off automatically at midnight and cannot be manually adjusted. Overall, though, my friend and I were very comfortable staying here. We felt safe and it was convenient. Great service by the front desk. Would come back and recommend this place. read more

Our stay at the Catalina courtyard suites was absolutely beautiful and amazing! We had room 506. The room was clean. Everything you needed was there, full kitchen, countertop, lotta seating, pull out bed, with an amazing view. The staff was beyond friendly we were helped by Arturo! Pros: close to the harbor, very cute, clean bed, nice courtyard, Large TV, quiet, very nice people (when they could be found), decent internet. Adjacent to our room was walk in room with hot water, coffe, tea, and hot chocolate, serve yourself anytime, which was nice. Cons: no "informational" in the room, so no instructions on how to access the internet (got help from a neighbor who helped), attendant mainly gone, including at check-out, and no one after 6, dirty floor, no TP in the room. The Jacuzi did not work--and floating black hair after filling the tup with water (yuk). Other than the bed, and towels, it did not appear the room had been serviced. read more

This is a very quaint hotel. We stayed in the beach view suite. The view was beautiful! The room was spacious and accommodated me and my family. They provide coffee, tea, cocoa and pastries for breakfast. There were issues on day 1 of 4, but it was resolved by management. read more

The hotel was very welcoming and had a wonderful vibe to it. The courtyard was almost like a Parisian hangout spot and there was a free old school pac man machine in the common area which my fiancé and I got a ton of use out of. They keep coffee and snacks/candy out all day so you can go and help yourself anytime you'd like. The fireplace in the courtyard that runs from 6-9pm is just simply heaven. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the bathroom tub was HUGE! The room had A/C and heat you can control and it came on and cooled/heated the room very quickly. The location is honestly amazing for the price, you walk out of the locked gated courtyard and are met with a gorgeous view of the ocean and boats, it was really nice to be met with every morning when leaving the hotel. Because of the great location we were able to take breaks in between walking around and stop back at the hotel for a little pac man or snack break. I truly couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for our 5 days on Catalina Island. Oh also they updated us to a king bed with a couch in the room when we arrived which was super awesome. Don't know if that would happen during busier times of year but it was definitely a nice surprise. My fiancé and I were originally going to stay at a different hotel but it was pricier and we opted for this instead....SO happy we did. The location is better than some of the more pricey places on the island. We will 100% be back to stay here again and I'd really recommend checking this hotel out if you're planning on coming to Avalon. read more

This will be our second time staying at this hotel. Our first visit was on Thanksgiving, everything was excellent. Only downfall was there was no one at the front office hardly ever. But the room was perfect size for myself, my husband and our 1yr old daughter. Absolutely no complaints during our first stay. Our second visit was april 26th-28th. We arrived and again no one was at the front office. Seems like they pay more attention to their other hotel location: hotel catalina. You always have to call someone to come down from that hotel to this one to help you with anything. So that was one thing we kind of didn't care for. The biggest thing we encountered was there was no internet/wifi in our room (rm 510), it was terrible. There was also no cable connection either for us to watch TV the entire time. We didn't have this problem the last time we were here. We tried to call and no one answered. This was a big problem because since we were relying on the wifi or cable to keep our daughter entertained while In the room. The next thing we noticed was the floors visually didn't look dirty but when my daughter got into the bed her feet were black and she was wearing her tennis shoes prior to getting in the room so they were clean. So I took a wipe and wiped across the floor and it was very dirty. Overall I'm rating a 3/5 based on our latest experience. It is a cute place to stay but our last visit was miserable and we will be staying elsewhere in the future. read more

Place is beautiful and they have a cab that will ferry you back and forth to the hotel. Rooms are decent but the staff!!!!!!! OMG, I have never experienced such rudeness and callousness from staff in service industry. Our door lock wasn't working, twice after repairs. I went down to tell them that we have small kids and possibly waiting wasnt an option. The 2 ladies at the lobby were absolutely pathetic. So rude!!! My family & I just left here for a few days. It was a very nice comfortable stay for all of us. The room and grounds are clean & well taken care of. We rented room 506 which is a ocean view panoramic view. Really nice & quite! My wife & I were impressed with all the ammentities they provide, this was a big motivation to do alot of our own cooking. I recently stayed here for 3 nights while visiting Catalina. I was very satisfied with my stay! The room is clean, the staff is great and very helpful. They had plenty of suggestions for tourist events and answered all my questions! There is an outdoor patio where they light a fire in the evenings. It was very relaxing. Also, the bathtub is heaven sent! A few downfalls: the office is closed throughout the evening, but there is a number you can call and they always answer and are very helpful! The breakfast sucks, its just doughnuts and oatmeal, but I was willing to look past that. The staff allowed us to have an early check in without a problem. On our check out date, our boat did not leave until 5pm, so they allowed us to leave our belongings in their office so we could continue to explore the island throughout the day without worrying about our luggage. Overall, I was very satisfied and would happily stay here again. read more

The boutique hotel is situated towards the edge of downtown Avalon just before the casino. It's just barely off the main strip. Far enough to be quiet but near enough to be walkable to most everything. The rooms were comfortable. The front office staff was great. Special thanks to Amanda and Ignacio for making our stay nice and convenient. The courtyard and continental breakfast were nice. The fire pit every night was great! With the last minute Covid-19 changes outlawing outdoor dining at restaurants just in time for Thanksgiving was horrific timing by CA government, but made the courtyard seating even more appreciated. We could get our meals to go and use the courtyard seating instead of competing for the limited seating in the city. The bathtub had jets in it and was perfect for soaking. They had a voucher for taxi's which made transportation for all of our bags and my disabled boyfriend much more manageable. read more

Loved the room and the views! Also service was great!. stayed in June 2020 so covid was an issue but place was good and clean and likely hadn't been used in a while due to restrictions on the island. Views couldn't be beat (ask for a view room). Ignacio was super helpful (asst. Mgr.) and accommodating! Many of the accommodations on the island are "vintage" this hotel is not an exception BUT the interiors have been remodeled and are pretty darn nice! Comfy bed and newer bathrooms .. and are bigger than many of the rooms we have stayed in on Catalina before. Anyways I don't hesitate to suggest to say here especially if you can get one of the view rooms they don't disappoint! read more

I generally don't leave negative reviews but this place is an exception. Don't waste your money here. There are so many other better hotel options. 1) the guy working the front is arrogant and dishonest. We asked for early check in if possible. I know that's rarely accommodated but I thought I'd ask since we were so tired. He was not at all interested in helping but said he'd call if anything came up. We don't hear from him. Oh well. Go back to check in at 3pm and the first thing this guy tells us is "guys your room has been ready for hours. I tried to call". This was a complete lie. I never missed a call or received a message. I called him out on it and he proceeded to list all the different cell carriers that "suck" and that must've been why. He never mentioned Verizon which is who I use. 2) bathroom door is broken. It's a slider so we had to squeeze in and out thru one side that worked. Ridiculous. 3) only one key works SOME OF THE TIME!! We were locked out of our room several times and guess what?? There's no one there to help you if it's between the hours of 7pm and 11am. 4) left with 1/2 a roll of toilet paper AND NO BACKUP!! I mean.... what? And then... there's a tissue container that is supposed to hold a box of tissue on the sink... no box of tissue in it. Just this empty container. Why?!?And again, no one to help. 5) Paid extra for a room with a garden view. Well, That garden view is a bunch of succulents out growing their mismatched pots surrounding some tacky smelly patio furniture with a radio blaring the same 14 ancient country songs on repeat. 6) no mention by the turd in the front about how the front gets completely locked down after 7 and that there's a little door in the back on another street that we'd have to use. Learned about that from another dissatisfied guest. So, I wouldn't stay here again. No way. By far the worst hotel experience I've ever had. And it wasn't cheap either. read more

Forgive my delay in posting a review for the Catalina Courtyard Suites. I'm what you'd refer to as an honorary "Island Girl". I've been going to the island ever since I was 8 yrs old. We used to stay the entire summer, most of my childhood. My family made longtime friends (which I now consider family) and haven't stopped going to the island since. My brother also continues the tradition. We were on the island celebrating my son's 40th birthday. We had stayed 3 days in a CIVR property and had a fabulous time. The next day we were scheduled to leave. After a brief, excited discussion, we decied we wanted to stay a couple more days. My son & girlfriend arranged to stay at the Catalina Courtyard Suites for 2 additional days. They've stayed here before. I never had and was quite impressed with the clean room and friendly/accommodating staff. Their customer service is outstanding. Igancio the Manager, was the nicest and most accommodating. We then decided to stay 2 additonal days on top of that. He was able to ensure we stayed in the same room so we didn't have to move our belongings. Again, awesome customer service. Our 3 day trip had turned into a week! When it came time to leave, I had discussed with Ignacio the possibility of staying longer. He happily worked it so we could stay, but after talking it over with my family, it was decided they had to get me home. I was super sad of course, but I know that we will return and stay there again. I look forward to arranging longer stay, next time. Thanks to Ignacio and staff our stay was fabulous! read more
