I am in awe of how misleading the description of this inn is. Especially the San Nicolas room! From the website re: the inn: "From the moment you arrive, the pace of the mainland slips away, replaced by sea air, harbor light and the quiet thrill of being somewhere truly special." What we experienced from the MOMENT we arrived - absolute CHAOS. We were greeted with a horrible rotten egg stench as soon as we opened the door, steep stairs with no one elevator (yes that's on their q&a but just another annoyance), violence and screaming in the streets after dark until 3 am, bass from surrounding bars shaking the building until 2 am, overpowering chemical smell in rooms, single pane glass that sounds like people on the street are in the room with you, gaslighting owners and managers (Melissa - not Jackie), unreliable communication, absolute ripoff for what you have to put up with. Melissa ultimately minimized my concerns by saying "nobody else complained". Okay, and? People have different tolerance levels, different health issues, even if it was someone's first time at the snug harbor inn maybe it wasn't their first time to the island. Maybe they didn't care. Maybe they didn't have the energy to complain. That shouldn't invalidate my experience and the lack of transparency. Can you honestly say you laid the framework for guests to make an informed decision? Did you provide transparency around potential barriers guests may experience during your busy season? No. This went beyond just a fun foam party during the daytime hours, there were literal violent fights and screaming in the streets BOTH nights until 3-4 AM. See videos below from Saturday night around 1:30 AM. I do acknowledge they can't control this behavior but they can and SHOULD add transparency for folks who are expecting a soft experience based on their own misleading advertising. The unprofessional manager, Melissa, also loves to blame-shift. She told us we could press 0 or call a number provided if we experienced issues again on the second night. I called 2-3 times throughout the night and it rang endlessly. By this point I was exhausted and didn't even think to get the physical number from the end of the hall and just assumed they weren't answering. When Melissa told me she never received a call the next day I was shocked but instead of being apologetic she said "if it was me, I would have walked down the hallway and got the number". I'm so sorry, in hindsight, if I wasn't running off of 4 hours of sleep collectively over 48 hours I would have gotten dressed at 3 am and gone to the end of the hall after pressing 0 didn't "work". Not sure how I was supposed to discern between it not "working" vs someone not answering. Funny how pressing 0 during business hours worked just fine. Either way, what a ridiculous process to shoulder the burden of breaking up riff raff to the guest and then blameshift when the thing you said would work didn't... While I would love a full refund, I firmly believe we are entitled to at least one night of a refund because of the misleading description on the website and we couldn't make a truly informed decision. I was told they would consider updating the website in the future but that benefits my husband and I in no way. The right thing to do is provide a refund for tainting our visit to Catalina with 0 reprieve from street violence and drunken debauchery. read more

This was my first stay at Snug Harbor. I visit Catalina/Avalon annually and of course had seen the Inn right on the corner of Crescent and Sumner above Leo's Drug Store, but it was not until my stay last year at nearby Hotel Vista Del Mar that my interest in Snug was piqued. Last year, Vista and Snug were under the same ownership, which is no longer the case. Snug now has closer affiliation with Hotel Aurora a bit up the hill. Snug is a cozy and charming 6-room inn. There is staff on duty during the day; welcome in-room wine and snacks are provided as well as daily continental breakfast. There is no staff on the premises at night, although someone is on-call. My stay was lovely and somewhat surreal. I visited during the February rains which caused the cancellation of all Catalina Express boats on 2 days during my Avalon visit. This forced guests here for the long Valentines/Presidents Day weekend to leave early or relocate. I ended up being the sole guest for my 2-night visit! And with minimal visitors on the island, evenings were also pretty quiet, despite being right above the main drag (Crescent). Snug does provide earplugs and eye masks if needed. I moved up my arrival date due to the weather and Snug was able to accommodate me, even offering the same room, which was the Santa Catalina room, the inn's "crown jewel" situated on the corner with two large bay windows, one facing Avalon Bay with Casino, Bay and pier views, the other with a built-in window seat facing Sumner and the hills above. All rooms have a fireplace and deep soaking jetted tub. The rooms are not particularly large but are full of charm, coziness and warmth. No robes or slippers, but there were 2 clock/music/alarm machines. Complimentary reusable water bottles are provided; there's a water/ice machine in the hall. The welcome snacks offered were olives, pretzels and high-end nuts (i.e., no peanuts). The continental breakfast was quite ample and includes a small loaf of warm banana bread, yogurt, fresh berries, granola, milk, juice and coffee or tea. You fill out an order slip as to what you want exactly and what time you want it delivered. There are 6 delivery times for the 6 rooms, which of course was not an issue for my stay. There is a common room with a sofa, fireplace and machine for coffee and tea. There is a closet for luggage storage, a public restroom and umbrellas. The front door is open 8-5, key access is needed in the off-hours. Shout-outs to the great staff I met--Jackie, Destiny and especially Johnny at the front desk and housekeeper/breakfast preparer Alicia. Overall a fabulous stay. I usually split my time on the island between Mt Ada and a property "downtown". Snug Harbor has moved to the top of my downtown list! read more

We stayed here with a group of friends over the Christmas break, and they really took care of us. They bring breakfast in the morning, and the welcome platter is such a thoughtful touch. We loved hanging out in the common area, and the hot beverage bar was especially welcome in December. We usually avoid hotels because they tend to feel generic, but this place is the opposite -- a true boutique experience with only six rooms. The location is perfect, close to diving spots and great food, and the attention to detail is exceptional. read more

Really great service, cozy room & nice stay overall. It's not ADA accessible, you have to go up some stairs and there's not an elevator. We stayed 1 night in the Santa Cruz room and it was very cozy. Wine & snacks delivered straight to our room, along with a lovely breakfast. They have free DVD rental with a nice selection to choose from. They also will store your luggage for free. The room had a fireplace & jet tub, the AC worked good. Overall I loved my stay here and it was a great choice for a romantic getaway! Communication was good. Service is great. We booked their spa package at the Catalina sea spa & I definitely recommend doing so! read more

We stayed in the San Nicolas Suite for our mini-honeymoon and it was absolutely perfect! Smaller room, but we were on the island to explore and sleep (wink, wink) so didn't need an elaborate room. There was a nice little sitting area with a table and chairs overlooking the beach and boardwalk area. From our full-ocean-view room we could see the Casino, the Pier, the ocean waves, we could people watch and enjoy the twinkle lights that lit up at night with soft quiet music playing. It was so relaxing and sweet. We were welcomed to a flickering fireplace, light jazz music and a welcome appetizer spread on our table. Juan was absolutely the perfect host for our stay. We didn't lack for anything. He even helped us re-arrange our trip home. Such a kind and caring man. Our stay was really warm and bright blue skies, we enjoyed our early light breakfast and then explored as much as we could, came back to the room for the 3:00 snacks served in our room. We opened up the windows so we could feel the ocean breeze through our room and cool off before heading out to have an early dinner and go for a nice long walk. The boardwalk was quiet at night, we slept with our windows open and never had any surprise craziness below. We were there from Tuesday through Friday, so weekends may be a different story. Our stay at Snug Harbor included the trip over on the Catalina Express, which was really nice so we didn't have to try to coordinate. One less thing to worry about when planning a wedding and honeymoon. The price for the Inn was reasonable and the location was perfect and centrally located to everything we wanted to experience. Please please please give Juan our gratitude for his fantastic hospitality. The entire staff was warm and welcoming though. We WILL be back! XOXOXO read more

I was torn to write a review because I don't want the entire world to know about the best kept secret on the island. This is the only place you need to stay in Catalina. The location is in the heart of everything. The rooms were clean and the beds were amazing. We loved they have beach chairs to use and are steps from a beach. John was so nice and exceeded expectations. The breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese were a fantastic touch. We can't wait to come back and stay again. read more

Had the most wonderful stay at the Snug Harbor Inn. Our room was spacious but cozy, absolutely loved the fireplace. Added to the romance of our romantic Valentines Day get away. Cozy San Nicholas room with excellent view and a super comfy bed. It was quiet, the fireplace with a switch was delightful, the TV huge, the jetted tub a treat, and Johnny was very accommodating. Everything went well. We have been going to Catalina Island for 15 years. The hotels have always been "ok". This time, we were celebrating our anniversary, so we wanted an ocean view. We chose Snug Harbor Inn. It's a small boutique hotel, nice & clean. Staff is friendly & professional . We were received with complimentary wine, assorted nuts, and in the morning, breakfast was brought to our room. What a nice touch! We will definitely come back! read more

If you stay at this inn, definitely get the Santa Catalina room. There is no better room on the island, in my opinion. It's very quaint and luxurious. It's right on the main pedestrian street, steps from the beach and pier. The inn keepers are so nice and accommodating. This inn has an old-time feel but it's very clean with modern amenities. We were served wine and cheese in our room at 4 PM on the day we arrived. I recommend ordering breakfast and see how nicely they set it up. I will definitely stay here whenever I'm on the island. read more

Great room, warm and welcoming staff, in-room breakfast was excellent! We look forward to returning.

We booked a trip to Catalina for my birthday and found this cute hotel to stay at. It was very clean, cute, and centrally located...three of my favorite things. The workers were all very nice and helpful. We were able to check in early which was great but if you cant check in early they are flexible and will allow you to drop your luggage off unit check in. We stood in the Santa Catalina Room which was perfect, it was a corner room with beautiful harbor views. While we were there we were able to watch a concert from our window. The hotel provided a beautiful breakfast with granola, yogurt, fresh baked bread, coffee, oj, and mill. It was a perfect start to our day. They also brought us daily wine with cheese meat and crackers which I thought was a nice touch. Since they don't have turndown service because of covid they also come by and bring you chocolates and water. We loved everything about this place and will definitely return! read more

I would NOT go here !!!! There was spiders. The toilet wouldn't flush. The cost of the Catalina was like 700 dollars . We also had another room in the hotel for family and that toilet didn't flush either . When they came to repair it the guy was rude and said we used too much toilet paper . We hadn't ! We just got there . When the toilet overflowed the man just threw a few towels on the ground ! Didn't call housekeeping to clean the toilet water . Not sanitary . The other room we had had broken blinds . It was just a grotesque hotel with horrible service and dirty . The champagne they bring you is 5 dollars . Just don't go . Plenty of great hotels on the island. Oh and they over charged us on the second room by nearly 100 dollars read more

This is a five star hotel experience . Amazing views of the beach while you have complimentary breakfast. Staff very friendly and was able to hold our luggage before and after our stay. We had our honeymoon here and are planning a return on our 10th anniversary this year. I loved our stay, it was, as the name suggests, snuggly. The rooms are charmingly decorated and their beds are a dream, literately. One of my favorite things they do is deliver a darling basket of breakfast yummies every morning. In the evening they had wine and hors d'oeuvres. We felt like we were the only ones there, very private and quiet. The customer service at this hotel truly makes you feel pampered and taken care of. Without a doubt one of the best stays I've had in a while. Our room was ready for us to check in by 10am at no additional cost as opposed to 3/4pm like most places. When we entered our room, they had a bottle of champagne, balloons, and a card congratulating us for our recent marriage. We left for a few hours and when we got back to our room, we had 2 glasses of wine and a small charcuterie board waiting for us. They delivered this every day of our stay. The following morning, they brought us breakfast to the room and set it up really nicely. Breakfast was on time and delivered exactly at the time frame we had selected. Front desk had beach chairs and towels that they let us borrow for the day. They also had a variety of DVDs available for guests (be sure to get it front them before they leave for the night.) We had a romantic movie night with the fireplace on and a great view. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. Awesome, awesome place!! We got the Santa Cruz room, which had a partial ocean view. The room was a little small, but very nice and cozy with its great decorations and the fireplace and plush bed, and what I really loved was the electric sign next to the door that you can change to, "Do not disturb." They also had a nice jacuzzi tub and free VHS rentals from the front desk, as well as free wine and cheese every afternoon. They really go all out on their complimentary breakfast too. You get to specify what time you want breakfast, and there's orange juice, yogurt with granola, coffee, bread, and a lot more that I can't remember, all put nicely in a small basket. They even sent me a little note afterwards to welcome me back and they mailed it so it resembled a message in a bottle: a plastic bottle filled with a little bit of sand and shells, with the note in it. Creative!! The only thing that disappointed me a little was that when I got there, our rooms weren't ready even though it was 3pm already. This place is pretty pricey, but so worth it. read more

The Snug Harbor Inn is truly one of Avalon's gems. We stayed in the Anacapa Suite and it was lovely, clean, and spacious. I've read other reviews about it being hard to sleep at night due to noise coming from the street be we had no trouble sleeping at all. (Granted, we did come during the week rather than a weekend). The building and interior were incredibly charming, and the service is top notch. I've never stayed at a hotel quite so small but it was wonderful to have such individualized attention. I'll be sure to return if I ever visit Catalina Island again! read more

Very quaint Inn in the heart of Avalon's beachfront. The San Clemente room is exactly as pictured on their website. Note you may be reminded how out of shape you are as you carry your bags up a couple of flights of stairs, rooms are not empty for 72 hours prior to your check-in (COVID), and the water pressure is what it is so no jet tub for me as it would have taken 2 hours to fill. There was a hole in the rubber bath mat and marks on the headboard where folks clearly rested their head. All that said I liked the place. Yes, it was noisy when you opened the windows but during COVID it was nice to be able to air out the room for hours as we went zip lining. They accommodated cider for wine and added hummus as I'm vegan. The morning breakfast was beautifully done in a basket delivered to your door. Every single staff member I spoke to was beyond courteous. read more

The hotel is cute, it's comfortable and cozy. We stayed in the Anacapa and the bed is super comfortable and a nice touch with music and nice gas fireplace that is conveniently by the bed to turn on or off. The breakfast basket was a nice touch, but if you are diabetic, watching your weight it would not be a healthy option. Pros: Cozy, comfortable and nice staff Cons: Noisy night club and breakfast not Diabetic or healthy. But definitely a come back place and would recommend. ***Note to management: hard boiled eggs, bran muffins, and almond milk flavored creamers would be a nice substitute. Thanks! read more

Spent a weekend here recently (in the Santa Barbara room) and I cannot say enough great stuff about this place. The staff are really accommodating and go the extra mile for their guests. B&B stuff: The staff deliver breakfast to your room every morning and you can specify at which particular time you want it, I believe the options range from 8:30 - 10:00. The breakfast consists of granola, fresh fruit, yogurt, orange juice, milk, coffee and a fresh/warm mini-loaf of bread. The first morning loaf of bread was bran (pictured) and the second morning was lemon-poppy seed. Deeeelicious! The bed was comfortable, but honestly a bit soft. The linens were clean and comfortable and the king-size bed was awesome. The fireplace was a nice touch as was the wine opener. That's what I like about B&B's, they think of everything you might forget. Like your fireplace. The daily serving of wine and cheese at about 4:00 was nice, we got to meet some of the other guests, made a little chit-chat and left around 4:30. The second night I noticed that the wine & cheese room was vacant (it doubles as the early morning coffee room) but many of the wine glasses were missing and very little cheese was left. Supporting evidence that this may truly be the island of romance and that guests tend to invest their "time" wisely. Our room overlooked the busy street below , we could hear the night club across the street, but the double-paned windows did an excellent job of quieting the ridiculous boom-boom music emitting from it. The room also had a great view of the Casino reflecting the sunrise's rosey-yellowness. In the end I tipped the staff quite generously, they had fixed a reluctant fireplace while we were out for lunch on the first day and had it working by the time we got back. Also, our morning breakfast basket (see description above) was delivered to our door at 8:30 on the dot. I swear, you could set your watch by it, not your wrist watch mind you, THE atomic clock in Colorado. Overall, I enjoyed my stay here and would do so again. I'd also recommend the Snug Harbor Inn to my friends and family. read more

Snug Harbor Inn lives up to its name: Super snug and cozy, near the harbor, and affordable as an inn with the luxury of a hotel! What's not to love? I haven't stay anywhere else, but I would definitely return. There are only 6 rooms in this place, so it feels secluded even though it's smack dab in the middle of Avalon - centrally located to some good restaurants and a 5-10 min walk from the Catalina Express port... no golf cart needed! We arrived early so we were able to store our luggage at the inn while we explored the hiking trails before the 3pm check-in. Things that were great about this place for a 5-star rating: - Wine & Cheese/Hors D'oeurves Hour from 4-5pm (they do it every night!) - Comfortable amenities (Jacuzzi tub!) - Free DVDs for rental - Great turn down service with chocolates - Friendly and knowledgeable staff - Fresh, hot coffee ready early in the morning! - Free Wi-Fi and last but not least, the SCRUMPTIOUS Continental Breakfast...granola, yogurt, a delish carrot cake bread with butter. Awesome! And we got a hotel package, so all these perks + the Flyer tickets included? Total score! Just a note - use the earplugs if you're easily awakened and in one of the siderooms that faces the Chi Chi Club - it gets noisy around 2 a.m. from all the bar/club patrons getting out. read more

My bride and I just stayed at snug Harbor inn for our honeymoon. The Snug Harbor Inn folks could not have been more accommodating. They specifically asked for our arrival time so a bottle of champagne on ice was waiting for us. We stayed in the San Nicholas suite with a perfect view of the ocean and a fireplace. The gas fireplace had a convenient switch to turn it off or on. Each morning, management brought in a delicious breakfast with coffee to enjoy. There is also a Keurig available for coffee as early as 6am each day. Every afternoon around 5 PM, there is a gathering place to enjoy wine and hors d'oeuvres with the other guests at the end. We met some really nice people and had great conversations this way. The staff were so great and very courteous. They made sure every one of our needs was met. The location of snug Harbor inn is perfect. It is right in the middle of town, and literally everything is within walking distance. We walked all the way to the private Descanso beach, past the casino. All of the local restaurants and bars are within blocks. They have exceeded my expectations from the beginning. Originally I called to inquire about the property as I've been coming to Catalina for 40 years and never knew of this little 6 room B&B. I was lucky to have Kellie on the other end of the phone line who was patient and able to tell me so much about the different accommodations they offer. She wasn't at all bothered by the lengthly call that ended with me saying " I'll call back once I decided". When I did call back Kellie was unavailable so Juan said he would assist. Hmmm I was worried that I wouldn't get the same level care but he quickly proved me wrong and was amazing. we chose the Santa Barbara suite. The level of service already was impeccable. I could hardly wait to arrive. Thoughts of doubt running through my head on our way boat over. After all the years at a different hotel, I was nervous wondering if I made the right choice. Well we arrived and barely steeped foot in the doorway of Snug Harbor Inn and down the stairs runs Steve to help us with out luggage. What a nice friendly greeting! Then as we went to check in we were greeting by an amazing woman. Mary was a breath of fresh air, immediately I knew we were in good hands. Charming and very welcoming. There was no hesitation or mention about us being over an hour and a half early for check-in. We were immediately shown to our room. As stated not too big but what a view! Plus they remembered from my call that we were celebrating my boyfriends bday. There was champagne and balloons. I was so pleasantly surprised! The room has a huge flat screen tv, sitting area and a jacuzzi tub, they made the most of the space. The overall feel of the entire B&B was fabulous. We were very comfortable. The wine and cheese cocktail hour was so sweet. An individual platter of olives, cheeses, crackers and nuts per room. We ended up bringing some top shelf alcohol choices and had an amazing time getting to know some of the other guests...The breakfast delivery is so quaint. You choose the time the night before and they bring you a breakfast basket including freshly baked bread, juices, fruit, granola, yogurt and coffee. It was a great bonus. This place aims to please! They went overboard and assisted with anything we needed. They even have great movies to check out at the front desk for a cozy night in! This place is a hidden gem.
