My daughter and I stayed at this hotel for two nights in September, and we really enjoyed our stay. The room was located on the fourth floor facing the courtyard and had a view of the water and a small balcony. We didn't hear any noise from the courtyard. The location is great with easy walking access to all of Avalon's attractions, shops, restaurants, and the boat dock for the ferry. The room was large with a comfortable bed, mini-refrigerator, and table. The dressing area was outside the bathroom and spacious. The provided breakfast consisted of parties, bread, jams, cereals, and oatmeal, as well as coffee and tea. It was sufficient for us. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Our room rate was higher than we usually spend, but we were celebrating my daughter's birthday, so we splurged. They provided a bottle of champagne to wish her happy birthday. read more

It's about time I posted a review about Hotel Metropole. This is our choice hotel every time my husband & I go to Catalina. The staff is very courteous and the rooms are always clean and very cozy comfortable. The bathroom always has enough towels & complimentary toiletries. Some rooms have a balcony and the last one we stayed at had a fireplace. There's a spa on the rooftop and you get a good view of the beach & ocean. The hotel offers daily complimentary breakfast too. There's even a courtyard where you can go check into a spa for a massage or even get something to eat. There's an amusement center too. Always an enjoyable stay at the Hotel Metropole. Since we always stay for 3 days, my only feedback is if they have daily housekeeping. read more

Hotel Metropole is a cute little hotel in Avalon. I enjoyed our stay here. We had a deluxe double room with two double beds. The room was spacious, clean, and modern. The beds were comfortable. The room also had a fireplace, a shower/bathtub, TV, and mini fridge. One negative is that the hot tub is really small. It looks like a bathtub and can only fit 4 people. The water level wasn't high and wasn't very hot. They have continental breakfast right outside of the lobby. Wow! I've stayed a few times in Catalina but I must say I'm very impressed with Hotel Metropole. We booked the room last minute and luckily they still had a few rooms left. When you walk in you'll be greeted by the friendly staff from the porter to the front desk staff. They are very respectful and warm. Shout out to Mike in the front desk for being so accomodating and kind. We arrived a little early but he made sure we were called earlier than the usual check-in. The room we got was Superior double and it's spacious and elegant. There was a fireplace, 2 chairs and small table and also a balcony with a nice view. They also serve continental breakfast and there was a good selection. Up on the 4th floor there is a rooftop hot tub overlooking the ocean. What a nice surprise! Also, if you are celebrating your birthday they will honor a 20 % off discount of the total room price and they might give you a bottle of Sparkling wine! This was just an ok hotel. If I were to come visit Catalina again, I would def stay at hotel Atwater instead which is much nicer. This hotel is dated. The bathroom was a bit icky. Think dirty grout and shower. The bed was pretty comfy which was the def plus. And they give u some complimentary water. We requested housekeeping and they forgot to come which wasn't a big deal. The biggest con was the noise from the streets. Doesn't matter which level. The rooms all face the street where there is just a lot of noise and activity. They need better windows. The hotel metropole was a home away from home for my birthday weekend in the beginning of June this year. My husband and I checked in on Yelp and received a complimentary bottle of champagne, although when we asked for it, the individual at the front desk had to double check if they were still honoring the coupon, which they did. We were in room 317, which after the fact, I noticed the reviews discussing the generator right outside the room. It was definitely loud when it kicked on, so I don't recommend staying in that room. A spooky encounter: On the first night, in the middle of the night, maybe around 2:45am, I kept feeling a tapping on my back and shoulders and woke up and turned around to ask my husband to stop, only to be faced with my husband in a full 3rd dream snore. In the morning, I let him know and he didn't remember anything. We proceeded to look up the history of the hotel and haunted Santa Catalina, to learn of some people dying in the hotel a loooooooong time ago. Anyways, it was an average, clean and warm hotel with a nice in room electric fire place. Not sure if we will stay here again, but if we did we will ask for one of the rooms that overlook the metropole shops. read more

We stayed in one of their Ocean Front Mini Suites at the end of December 2024. The room itself had a gorgeous view of the ocean and downtown area and was decently appointed and large. The hotel itself is a 15 minutes walk from the ferry landing and there are no free shuttles offered so you would have to arrange for transportation if you have mobility issues. All the people that I interacted with at the front desk were friendly and accomodating. I understand that the hotel sits on an island and the prices will be higher which is why I would compare it to a similar hotel on Martha's Vineyard and would recommend the following to management: - Please ensure that rooms are clean prior to guests arriving - our bathroom was not cleaned properly if inspected closely - Your mattresses are old and should be changed - Your pillows are terrible (among the worst I've ever seen) - please add feather pillows and offer feather free options to guests - While hardwood floors may be easier to maintain they look cheap and cold without ANY carpet - Reach out to guests prior to arrival if you will be offering free gifts - the free champagne may be great for some but others may prefer something else - Please offer some form of transportation to customers read more

Hotels in Avalon are expensive because they are limited. We were there about 28 hours and spent one night at this hotel which was not the most expensive but midpoint. They didn't have bars of soap when we arrived due to being back ordered but later managed to find some. The free breakfast was disappointing but there is a busy coffee shop next door to get breakfast. The itty bitty patch of public beach is a short walk away and there are shops and restaurants within steps. Everything is close by and the walk from the ferry was about 6-8 minutes. The rooms were surprisingly large including the restroom. They also had actual small cribs that fit my toddler. It wasn't a usual pack and play. The rooms don't have carpet and I felt the floors could have been more clean, but otherwise, the hotel was fine. If you want something nice, try the luxury hotels, but otherwise, I suggest doing a day trip which is more than enough for Avalon. read more

Great hotel. I've stayed in Catalina a couple times and this is one of the better ones available. Went for a birthday and they have birthday discounts, so take advantage. Pretty central to mainstreet even though it's at the end inside of a plaza. It's location was convenient for all the little stores and shops around, great area to walk down for a quick coffee or bite. Continental breakfast is one of the better I've seen. We ended up leaving some things behind in the room accidentally and they called us while we were already on the boat back, they offered to mail it! Came in clutch. read more

I told the desk that there was a smell in the bathroom. They came right away and put something down the drain next to the toilet; smelled 100 % better after the maintenance man did that! It was a bit strange that the luggage transporter was not very good at going straight. How stupid does the lady at the desk think I am; she had a feeble excuse for it. The maintenance man needs to fix that wheel on the left front of the suitcase conveyer. No more excuses! The Continental breakfast was excellent all 3 mornings! If we asked them a question, they would respond. The lady at the desk on Sunday AM called an Uber to pick us up. She was the same one who tried to weasel her way out of the problems with the suitcase carrier. She had on white-framed glasses. I do not remember her name. Actually, doesn't she know by now the customer is always right? I think I will try somewhere else next time. I should have given them only a 4 rating! If I had it to do over again, I would. The "Deluxe Room" (314) Great AC, limited tv channels, there was a crack in our tv, floors were wet and some leftover crumbs from previous guests. Walls are super thin feels like you can hear everyone and be heard all the time. Jacuzzi is quite small, outdated and not very intimate. As the rules say to be in there for 15 min only. However front desk receptionist was super sweet and offered champagne for our celebration. Breakfast consists of simple pastries/bagels, fruit, yogurts, cereal cups, milk, OJ, Apple Juice, and coffee/teas. Our Toilet lever stopped working we told the front desk and they fixed it within the hour. We enjoyed how close and convenient the hotel was to the spa, coffee shop, and arcade. The Service here was amazing, I stayed for about a week and they took great care of my party. They came and took out my trash promptly whenever I needed and brought a surplus of bath towels anytime I asked relatively quickly. When the a/c in the room wasn't working they actually replaced the unit with a portable one that worked better than any hotel air conditioning I've experienced. They even sent someone to my room to kill a spider for me that was on the ceiling. Best hotel service, with large rooms and comfortable beds. We checked in on Dec. 23, 2023 Saturday And there's No electricity already for 3 days straight. Through dec 25, 2023 Monday. It's was so cold at night there's no heater to turn in on . U can't even take a shower coz the water is so cold coz there's no water heater and super dark . We almost slip all the time. And their toilet was clogged we have to call their maintenance that show up after 4 hours. There's no WiFi or power to charge our smartphone to book our activity the next day. It was a hotel nightmare . We have to check out the next early 8am morning instead 11am check out time coz we can't take it anymore . We check in the next door hotel has electricity. All other Hotel has light except hotel metropole We can't shower coz no water heater No WiFi or to charge our smart phones. Our smart phone battery run out coz We have to use the flash light all night long And no heater in the cold room. No kids streaming to watch for my 3 year son. They didn't provide any flashlight or charger for our smartphone. We just siting duck there Waiting. It was a Horrible experience in my family. I have pictures of the hotel metropole with no lights and the next door building has lights and video of Edison power putting a new transformer on Dec 25, 2023 10am but the lights was back so late in that day still. The worst part they still charge us $301.00 that one nightmare we stay at hotel metropole. What a joke. and they promise of refund but denied it once u check out. We went to Catalina Island for our 18th Anniversary. Hotel Metropole was our 1st. stop. The service was awesome. We told Vanessa why we were on the Island. She gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne and gave us a room with a great view if the island. The only draw back was that the jacuzzi needed to be fixed. If it was fixed. We picked Metropole for its central location in Avalon, but also for the ocean front suite that we were able to obtain at a discount for a week's stay. The hotel is not directly on the ocean - but then very little here is - more like across the street, however the views from our one bedroom suite in the VIP section on all sides were great. This was their "VIP Ocean Front Suite" which is right on the corner of Crescent (which is the ocean front street in Avalon) and Metropole Avenues. It may get a tad noisy as the tourists walk by or drink it up in one or more of the adjacent restaurants or bars (including Coney Island West which was right below our suite), but the effect isn't so very bad and it got quiet by about 8:30pm at least on Sundays and weekdays when we stayed here a full week in late February. The suite itself is very modernly appointed, has a great vaulted ceiling in the living room area, two siding glass doors in the living room area plus one in the bedroom, with two narrow standing room only balconies and one patio balcony. Even the bedroom ceiling is a partial vault. Flip a switch on gas ceramic log fireplace. King sized bed, jacuzzi tub and walk in shower. There is a small microwave oven, bar sized refrigerator and Keurig coffee machine supplied with some coffee and hot chocolate pods (we used it to make hot water for our tea, although with a microwave present, it wasn't really needed). Two ceramic teacups are provided. The bedroom has a great Marshall portable bluetooth and plug in speaker which fills the suite with music. Friendly check in, and valet service to the room on request. We arrived early and they checked and stored our luggage and had it in our suite by the time the room was ready for us (about 2:30pm). Robes on request. Complimentary bottle of champagne on first night of check in. The complimentary Continental breakfast is not happening during the coronavirus pandemic, but I understand that breakfast is available in town for 20% off. She had a massage at their day spa and it was very good and professionally done. WiFi was spotty - would go out from time to time, including one entire night when it was not working. Our shower has fairly low water pressure and is set not to get very hot (I checked this - at the same time that turning the shower to max doesn't produce a very hot water flow, the hot water tap in the sink was flowing scalding hot water). The king sized bed has an out of place motel style blanket, but at least covered by a thin comforter inside a duvet cover. Did have maintenance take a look at the shower, but the adjustment to make it hotter would require plumbing work so we left it alone. Hope they deal with it later. The remotes didn't seem to work properly for the televisions. We waited until the second day of our stay to mention this. While maintenance was here, he did manage to get the remotes working on the TVs. On two nights a humming sound started in the wall next to the bedroom and kept going most of the night, some kind of machinery or fan. The second night the hotel came to check it out to see what was going on, but couldn't shut down the sound, which might have been some kind of air conditioning compressor on the roof. As an accommodation they gave us a late (6pm) checkout on the last day of our stay, which was nice, and useful, as our ferry left at 6:30pm that day. No housekeeping due to coronavirus pandemic - housekeeping will not enter your room - towel exchange service only. Front desk closes at 8pm. They are consciousness about trying to help, and one time when I phoned and no one answered a few minutes later they called me back on their own. No room service - the day spa is open for treatments at this time. Avalon has a lot to do and see if you're into hiking, visiting tourist attractions (although the Catalina Casino was closed for tours when we were here), and dining - plus taking in the general seaside atmosphere. The weather here seems warmer than the counterpart across the ocean (Long Beach). Very few cars, lots of golf carts (some noisy (gas powered), some silent (electric)), bicycles, electric scooters too. It's a good getaway, but be prepared to spend if you want to stay in a very nice place and enjoy yourself. Avalon is after all a tourist destination - not without comparison to Monte-Carlo, Monaco, La Jolla, California, or Kailua-Kona, Hawaii but with a much higher density of pure tourists and far fewer residents. When compared to some of these aforementioned travel spots Avalon isn't so very expensive. You'll quickly figure out if Avalon is for you after visiting once, but in any case, the Hotel Metropole is definitely a nice way to do it. I gave them four stars even with the problems and noise we experienced in the suite. read more

It's alright no where as glamorous as the photos on their website. That photographer did a bang up job. My bed wasn't terrible but it was not supportive as I'd prefer. Furniture was not as updated as in the website pics, for my room at least. There's a continental breakfast served just outside the lobby. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the instant oatmeal was, I should of grabbed several of those beyotches for the road. Pros: clean, they tried to be attentive Cons: hot water didn't work when we returned to our room after snorkeling, we desperately wanted to shower but it took them so long to fix so we just went to dinner dirty. Breakfast is a joke- grocery store bought Bagels and coffee with some rice Kristin cereal. Wifi didn't work and Verizon cell reception on the island isn't good so this is a necessity AC was very loud all night. Hot tub can only comfortably seat 2 people and is only half full. Also people who aren't staying at the hotel wander up because it's not locked, anyone can just take the elevator to the 4th floor and go in it. They didn't bother to ask how our stay was because why would they care. read more

Came for a family wedding Thanksgiving weekend. The Hotel is older but very nice with beautiful views. Our room was a partial view and very clean comfortable and quiet. We did not really get to use any of the amenities due to scheduling. My only complaint is the staff and service. I am so tired of $400 a night hotels not figuring out a way to provide clean towels and fresh coffee service in an efficient way. How about just ASK your customers and just deliver them automatically. What a concept. We had to remember to ask for everything and the staff acts like it's a burden. Oh and powdered cream in your coffee service? Please you can do better than that. I would stay again due to location and view. read more

The good: clean, reasonably comfortable bed and pillows, right on the main drag, quick, efficient front desk staff, tasteful modern decor, window actually opens. The bad: Rooms with "mountain view" get constant noise from gas-powered golf carts on the street; no fridge or microwave means you're limited to the island's horrible restaurant food even though Von's is a 5 min walk away; fireplace would not turn on front desk said yeah sometimes it takes 5 minutes. Not that we really wanted it because it was so hot but still. The ugly: AC unit in our room (317) didn't work consistently and room was suffocatingly hot at night because even with window open there was no breeze and room didn't cool down; some component of a central AC system was right outside the room and was very loud all the time. Overall, this room was not worth the exorbitant price, though I would've been happy with it for about half what we paid. Golf carts do seem to mostly stop after dark, at least, this time of year (last wk Sept) they do. For about the same price we could've rented a VRBO or something in a quieter area and cooked edible vegetarian food but lesson learned. read more

The place is simply put perfectly located and very clean! I've stayed all over this island and hotel metropolitan is by far the best I've stayed at! The staff- workers and everyone were fantastic! We will be staying here from now on after 40 years of coming to the island I'll be going nowhere else but here! We got in our room 3 hr early ???? We 80% of the time bring the yacht? But now? I think I'll save 3,000 bucks and do the flyer and hotel metropolitan! Big rooms with two queens and newly renovated bathrooms so nice to see this! Absolutely perfect! We stayed in a Jr suite with an amazing full ocean view. The room was spotless and the front office staff was super friendly. This was our first trip to Catalina and we did a lot of research to find the best hotel. We found it! While bumming around the town, we looked at other hotels for next time. Nothing else came close to the experience offered here. The rooftop jacuzzi was intimate and had a spectacular view of everything. When we came back to the hotel after riding a golf cart around the island, there was champagne waiting for us at our room door. Absolutely charming hotel and the shopping/Game Center downstairs has great stores and dining options. It was a perfect stay.... This was my & my husband's first time to Catalina, so I purchased him a hotel room & helicopter return flight combo for his birthday. Right off the bat Asia, who assisted us with the booking, was incredibly personable and helpful in assisting us with upgrades, answering our Qs, communicating with the helo company, and providing vouchers for our transpo from the helipad to the hotel. Since the room wasn't ready when we landed, we were still able to check our bag with concierge as we explored. We received a phone call when our hotel room was ready, and we were even met with a complimentary bottle of champagne that evening. The hotel itself is truly one of the nicer ones I found while doing my research in terms of bang for buck. We stayed in an Ocean View room and it was spacious, clean, with a beautiful view.
