I have not been to shell shack in a while before my recent visit. From what I remember, everything was amazing. This visit was totally different. The seasoning only tasted like they put chile powder and nothing else. Also, they managed to give me the smallest shrimp they could possibly find along with the skimpiest crablegs. Let me start by saying I love shell shack but the Arlington location needs help they have a long way to go with attention to detail. I have been to this location at least 5 times if not more since they opened and almost every time something went wrong. Once the waitress left us with empty cups because she claimed not to be able to see how much liquid we had left due to the cups being red....hmm okay. I don't know how that stops you from checking on your table, and no it wasn't that busy I actually saw her stroking a friends hair at the bar, but this is a laid back place so I guess that's tolerate. Moving on from that..... multiple times my food has been left out of the bag just forgotten example I ordered corn didn't get it ordered sausage didn't get it had to remind the waitress or I order two corn and only got 1. The kitchen just doesnt pay attention in my honest opinion twice the temperature of the food was off, once I ordered mild and got something way way hotter. I think this location can be great but there needs to be more attention to detail by the staff mainly the kitchen. I'm willing to wait an extra 5 or 10 minutes for a correct order. I'm paying over 70.00 bucks plus for me and another person so I expect effort. I will be back eventually and I hope things will be better this location is so much closer to my house. Somehow, we ended up on a soft opening. We found the food interesting and a good variety. It tended to be more of a sports bar than a restaurant. Seafood can get pricey so it is easy to run the bill up pretty fast. We had a fun enjoyable time. Not a place we would make a regular stop until we win the lottery. read more

I was excited at the idea of a new seafood place near home but this was the biggest disappointment by far for any new restaurant. The menu has very little to offer but the draw for me was the highly touted Crab legs and oysters. With no prices posted for these items online or even on the menus I was braced for the worst. At $34.00 a lb. I decided those weren't in my future given the chaotic sports bar atmosphere. The annoying music was a bottom shaking garage band unknown reminiscent of the crappy opener for a rock concert. The kind you can't wait to be over with so you can enjoy the main attraction. It never ended unfortunately. I ordered a dozen oysters and the gumbo. The oysters were ok but it took 3 requests for the lukewarm gumbo to show up. I never saw any chicken or sausage but it was ok, but would have been better if hot. I had also ordered the side order potatoes. My jaw dropped when the waitress dropped a plastic bag (note my photos) on my table with 4 tiny boiled and unseasoned red potatoes. After she had passed by 2 or 3 times I got her attention to say how am I supposed to eat this? There were no eating utensils and the napkin holder on the table was empty. I was ever more flabbergasted when she came back with the potatoes rolling around on a greasy (obviously dirty) beer tray. Feeling queasy at this point I told her I did not want them and asked her to take them back. A manager showed up with the re-plated potatoes on a bowl which I would have expected in the first place. There was a tiny plastic condiment cup which held the 50 cent optional lemon pepper sauce I had ordered. It looked like the bottom grease scrapings you have when you fry sausage and tasted the same. I'm still feeling woozy today from that taste that haunts me. I was really expecting to at least enjoy something about the place but it just isn't there. Besides that, she talked us into getting 2 of the VIP boils since it was 3 of us dinning in, few minutes later our boils were brought to the table by a manager letting us know they didn't have any corn ready and he would bring some once they were ready.. 30min later still no corn or offer to substitute for something different-mind you that we only got 2 VIP's because supposedly it would be cheaper than adding sides to what we initially wanted. Anyways our check comes, and I leave a 20% tip of $30 which is more than she deserved for the service that day, fast forward to today and I check my credit card statement and she had the audacity to CHANGE THE TIP I left, and add an extra $10 for her tip! Fantastic service and food!!!! Absolutely the best boil I have ever had! We had the kitchen sink medium and it was amazing! Most boils we go to are too hot to even eat, no names mentioned. The first time i went to the Shell Shack in Arlington, I got the Beardi crab legs. They were decent with the kitchen sink flavor but just slightly overcooked. It happens but I felt their customer service was good enough for me to come back. The second time I went to the Shell Shack in Arlington, I got the king crab legs with the kitchen sink flavor--hot. They gave me 4 large legs which for $30, I expected more. When I went to open one of the legs, there was less then half the leg of meat and it was really shrunken which means they severely overcooked it. We had the manager come over, he got me a new plate, this time with 3 legs of a slightly smaller size. The leg bent but wouldn't crack. When I finally got it opened, same thing as before. Severely shrunken crab meat and less than half of each leg contained meat. My friend and I closed out our tab but were staying to finish our drinks. She decided to order some take out shrimp for her husband and we got two more drinks and closed that tab out. She didn't tip because it was a to go order. This morning, she checked her tab and the $39 total mysteriously went up to $50. She's going to call them and fight that but we're definitely not going back. I'll take Joe's any day of the week over this place and I am not a big fan of that chain. read more

Without a doubt, this was the worst dining experience I have ever had! No complaints about the waitress. She wasn't at all friendly, but she did her job. However,I was totally shocked at the prices! but that wasn't the worst of it. The grilled shrimp was awful. It was cold & so overcooked it was a real time-consuming struggle to remove the shells & , needless to say , was like rubber to boot. I didn't realize it was going to be "a la carte"& adding on the "sides" would have added on half as much again to the price of the "meal". The manager stopped by the table at the beginning of our meal & I voiced my complaints. About the shrimp being hard to peel, he suggested that next time I should order it already peeled. They will be happy to do that at only an extra $5.00. I explained to him I have been peeling my own shrimp all my life and added that the problem was it was overcooked. My friend also told him she had the same problem with her crab. He just turned around & walked away. My friend suggested maybe we shouldn't leave a tip, but of course we did. No need to blame the waitress. She didn't cook it. The snooty manager is another matter. Needless to say there won't be a " next time". Pappadeaux is no more expensive & a lot nicer! read more

First time visit to Shell Shack. Ordered crabs and shrimps. The crabs were OK but the shrimps were a disappointment. They were over-boiled and obviously eating them was tough like chewing gum in your mouth! When I brought this to the attention of the server after tasting the first shrimp, he simply said it "might be boiled a minute or two too long." That was it. No offer to replace or correct the over boiled shrimps. My suggestion: if Shell Shack wants to be a seafood restaurant of choice, it has to train their cooks how to boil shrimps, and their servers how to handle concerns from their guests. As for dessert, I was surprised by the size of the one scoop of gelato that I ordered. The serving was tiny, in a little plastic cup (see pic) which I initially thought was a sample for me to try when it was served! In short, that's my first visit to Shell Shack and probably will not be hurrying there when looking for seafood. read more

This was the worse experience I had at a restaurant in a very long time. I came in with a party of 10 for a birthday party and I made sure to let management (Managers Clint and Bill) know that I would have a large party coming 3 DAYS IN ADVANCE just to be courtesy and make sure that the staff was aware. I also made a cal the day of to notify that our party would still be coming and I was told that they would have a two servers waiting and that they would have the space for our party - I thought this was great given that they don't take reservations. When we got to the restaurant and sat down, we were introduced to our waitresses and began to order. 1. The waitresses never communicated with each other so they only took partial orders from people. 2. Once the food came, half of the food was missing. For instance, if a meal came with crab, corn and hush puppies - only a side of corn came. And when asking the servers what the issue was, the looked surprised. 3. Once our food finally arrived correctly, it was cold and inedible. I've been to the Shell Shack in Dallas and the organization and service there was 100X better than this restaurant. Went today for a late lunch and it was excellent! I ordered 1lb king crab, kitchen sink seasoning, hot with 1 corn. I loved how they brought it out in a bag and dumped it on a tray! The crab was cooked perfectly! And the corn was so sweet and soaked up the seasoning nicely. I highly recommend the crab! Bren ordered the buffalo shrimp, diablo seasoning. She got broccoli instead of the fries. She really enjoyed her meal as well!! She's not a big seafood eater but said she would get it again. Also, they just got Blue Point toasted lager on tap. Excellent beer!! I was really surprised about that! It made the experience even more special. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and was very attentive. Coolest thing was the hand washer machine near the bathrooms. It really did a good job of getting all the crab seasoning off my hands! I have been to both the Plano and Uptown locations multiple times and always had great experiences. Not so much at this location. The food was pretty good per usual, however the service was greatly lacking. Our server was just not attentive and kept messing our order up. I had to ask another server for water since ours kept forgetting, she forgot to put in one of our kid's orders, she kept forgetting little things we asked for and just was not pleasant. The management was no better either. I would not recommend this location or at least don't be expecting good service if you do decide to come. read more

I visited on Friday night, the service was the absolute WORST I've ever experienced. We were seated and waited 12 minutes before being greeted by a waiter we noticed eyeing our table as if he didn't to be bothered. He finally came over and was really dry and seemed annoyed. So we ordered beers which took about another 12 minutes. My friend and I both ordered a pound of crawfish, fries and corn I also ordered hot wing which never arrived. 1st came the crawfish, then the fries which were cold. Sure wish my family & I could have tried it. We planned on trying something different for Christmas this year and going out to eat as a family instead of cooking at home. We heard that the Shell Shack was going to be open on Christmas Day plus we had been wanting to try the restaurant for some time now. I called a week before Christmas just to make sure that they truly were going to be open that day. I spoke to a young lady on the phone and she advised that they were indeed open and that she would even be working that day. I asked about making a reservation and she told me that they do not take reservations. I said, Ok, we look forward to see you then. She said, ok, we will be here. Never once did she tell me that they would not open until 3pm Christmas Day. On Christmas Day my family was about to leave to head to the restaurant so we could get there about 12pm to maybe beat some of the crowd and not have to wait for a long time. I just happened to pull up their website to get the exact address and it said opens at 3pm. WHAT??? So we had to come up with another Christmas dining option at the very last minute on Christmas Day (when only a hand full) of places are open. Needless to say, we found another restaurant and took our business there instead. Again, we have heard nothing but great things about them as well as read all the wonderful reviews. Sure wish we could have experienced it. Not sure if or when we will be able to try them as this lack of communication from their staff left us with a very poor first impression. read more

Im only giving 3 stars because our server was great and attentive. The kitchen staff seemed very incompetent. They blasted music that basically over ran the music on the PA. An one cook had a bucket har on. So unprofessional. We ordered calamari, crab tots and 2lbs of snow crab. We sent back the calamari initially cause it was extremely over cooked. The crab tots had no flavor and we sent back one of the orders of crab as it was dry and appeared old. Our server replaced both things we had an issue with and they were okay. The calamari was still a bit dry however better than the first order. The crab wasnt very hot more like lukewarm and the shells were soft which is another indicator of improper cooking. I honestly regret choosing this place for dinner. However i have visited the Dallas location and had a better experience. I definitely would not return as it's probably top 3 in the worst seafood i have ever had. If you know/have had good seafood this is not a place i would recommend. The drinks from the bar were good. Ordered a hennesy and sprite which was made just right and a blue moon which tasted fresh and was a good pour! ****** update******* This is in response to the comment left by management. So basically yall buy shitty crab! I should not have too freaking tear it open because its rubbery! It was dry and not juicy, aka overcooked. My family is from Florida, and my dining partner is from Louisiana, between the two of us have eaten MANY crab as well as caught it. I literally lived in St. Petersburg across the street from a seafood market that has local daily catches. Came here for a birthday dinner for a family member shortly after the place opened. Felt a bit disorganized but that's to be expected at the start. The food was great. We got the fried calamari, which was tasty, but the main course was where I was pleased. We got a pound of shrimp and a pound of crawfish. Can't remember what seasoning/sauce we got on the shrimp (maybe the sink one?) but I got the mid-level spicy on the crawfish. Both tasted great, though I was kind of disappointed in the spice level on the crawfish. In any case, if you are a fan of eating crab, shrimp, oysters, or crawfish by the pound, definitely give this place a go. They also have a neat hand/arm rinsing machine at the bathroom entrance. read more
