Scam alert!! Drove in with simple headlight fix. I was over charged but needed it done in a hurry so accepted the estimate. When I called to see when I could pick it up they said it needed a new battery because it "died" as they were backing it out of the shop. They wanted to charge me $240 dollars for a new battery and install. I declined and when I went to pick up the car it started up fine and the battery is working fine. I have used the repair shop a handful of times and have always been impressed. First, its hard to complain about a repair shop that you can walk home from! I have had my car towed here twice, once for grinding breaks that they were able to repair without replacing the rotors and a second time for the starter. Both times the prices were regional (I checked around) and the repairs were done very quickly. I have also brought a vehicle here for issues with the transmission and they quickly let me know that the vehicle needed to go to a transmission shop, recommended a good place, and didn't charge me. I've been having my cars serviced at Nicholas Fleet Street Shell for 15 years. The people who work there are honest and diligent. Several years ago, I had some body work done and the mechanic I dealt with there said that my shocks were leaking and I needed to replace them immediately. Bill, the owner of Fleet Street Shell, took a look at them and said that they were good for a while. The original shocks were still fine 125,000 miles later when I traded the car in. More recently, there was a glitch that appeared immediately after a servicing. It wasn't perfectly clear that the glitch was Fleet Street Shell's issue, but Bill stepped up and took care of it. I recommend Fleet Street Shell for honest, reasonably priced service. I'll never get dealer service again. read more

Just moved the the neighborhood, one morning I start my car and it's acting up. I walked over to the shop, and described the issue, and asked if I needed it to be towed in, or if it was safe to drive given the current state. They helped me bring it into the shop, and assessed the issue right away. Bill walked through the exact issue and the pricing structure of my parts and labor in the estimate; more impressively, he was patient with me as I got quotes from other shops, and his quote was right in line with the estimate at my AAA shop in Towson. They completed the work almost immediately, at a cost lower than what was originally quoted. I can guarantee all of my future vehicle issues will be dealt with by Bill, it's great to have a reliable mechanic right around the corner. read more

Shop is knowledgeable....however communication and service is slow...they never call to tell me what's up with the car...made an appointment for repair on a Monday for Wednesday service...they didn't even look at it on Wednesday!!! I had to stop and call several times to see what was the problem with the car...even after 6 when shop was closed...and they couldn't tell me and had to stop back the next morning. Not anywhere close to acceptable!! read more

I have only written one Yelp review before so seeing as I am spending the time to post my experience, should mean something. My car was towed here on a Wednesday to have the starter replaced (according to the AAA guy, who was almost 100% sure this was the issue). After the car arrived around 1:00PM, I specifically asked them to contact me that day, after the car had been looked at to provide an update. I never received a call and had to myself to inquire about the status of my vehicle (I called around 5:15PM). I was informed that the car had been looked at and diagnosed-needing a replacement starter-and was given a price of $576. I immediately voiced concern and asked for the breakdown of the costs. In particular, the starter itself cost $274.00. I told Phil that I would have to call him back as I was going to see what my other options were. Prior to getting off the phone, Phil told me he would email me a hard copy of the breakdown. I contacted another car place that was recommended to me and explained the situation (without saying what I was being charged by Phil) and asked what a ROUGH estimate would be-knowing that this was certainly subject to not be completely accurate. The estimate I received was around $300. I called the Shell back the following morning and explained that I would be taking it elsewhere as I found a significantly cheaper estimate. Phil immediately said, "Oh, well I can certainly find cheaper options for you in regards to starter prices. I was just giving you the best quality, the starter that a Jeep dealership would use." I then inquired as to why I was not given this option previously when we spoke the night before, especially considering I made it clear that I was shocked to hear the grand total. He did not have much of an answer... I then asked why I never received the formal copy of the breakdown via email to which he insisted he sent. He then told me to check again and of course, the email immediately came through. He told me he would look to see what my cheaper option would be and would call me within 5 minutes. His return call was the only call that he actually stood by in my time dealing with the shop. He then gave me a new total of $396.00. With apprehension, I agreed to keep the car there, simply only out of convenience, and my only request was that he, once again, call me with all updates. He indicated the part needed to be ordered and that "if it was not done today, it would be finished first thing tomorrow morning." Five hours later, my boyfriend called to inquire and he told him it would most likely be finished by 10AM the next day. I then called just before they closed to follow up one last time. He told me "maybe by 10:00AM if not, then by noon." Again, all I asked was to be updated come morning time. No call received by noon...however, Phil had the audacity to send me an email (at 11:43) with an estimate of how much it would cost to get my BREAK PADS REPLACED. Upon seeing this, I became worried and angry because 1). I had not heard about the starter being fixed, 2). Was this sent to me by accident? Intended for another customer? Did they mix my car up? Because not once, did I ask them to check my breaks or do an overall wellness check of the car and 3). Phil had the time to type up an additional estimate and not even give me a call indicating the issue at hand, was taken care of? I then received a voicemail indicating the car was ready to go (at 12:13). All in all, I was extremely disappointed with the lack of communication and transparency. I asked MULTIPLE times to simply be given updates and was never granted this. I felt taken advantage of and only when I said I was taking it elsewhere did he offer me an alternative. (In my opinion, he most certainly thought that there would be no way I'd go to the trouble of taking it elsewhere given that it would have had to of been towed.) If anything, I expected to receive above and beyond customer service after giving him a "second chance." It was completely inappropriate to send me an additional invoice when he had yet to follow through on even letting me know the main issue was taken care of. Furthermore, I had just taken my car to his shop to get the AC serviced about a month ago. The price was more reasonable but the customer service was lacking as well. Another small thing to note, when I finally was informed the AC was fixed he asked me if I wanted my windshield wipers replaced and told me it would cost $14.00. I said sure, go ahead. Upon getting my bill, it indicated the wiper replacement was actually $25. He only told me the price of ONE of the windshield wipers, which I thought was pretty petty and shady. He did not indicate they were $14 a piece. No one ever buys windshield wipers individually so it is only logical to state the price for both. I sent an email voicing my concerns. Although I did not ask for a response, I expected to receive one. So here I am, posting this on Yelp. read more

Driving back to Baltimore, we had a flat tire. I changed out the flat tire with the spare tire in the trunk. Drove back to the City to get to work. I did not want to venture outside the City to get it repaired. Gerry's Tires is a large business on Central Avenue. The guy who answered that phone was rude and said that I had to leave the car all day to fix a flat tire. At work, I asked a colleague if HE knew of a reliable place within the surrounding neighborhood to fix a flat. The Shell station on Fleet Street. I buy gas there. Never gave a thought of tire repair. 'Chris' said that his wife went there to get a flat tire repaired. Took 10 minutes. With that advice, I drove over to the Shell Fleet Street station. The kind young lady behind the counter said 'drive it around back to Bay #3.' The wonderful guy with the red hair goatee (I have red hair, too) fixed the flat, removed the spare tire, installed the fixed tire...all, within 10 minutes. $22 bucks. What a fantastic neighborhood service to have near my house. Baltimore is great. -Jay read more

If I could give negative stars i would. WORST experiences I have ever had. I took my car here about 3 years ago when my car died thinking I needed a new starter. They assured me it was the battery so after $150 to replace that my car died again a week later. Turns out it was my starter...GRR. After another $200 to replace the starter I had my car back only to have it overheat a week or two later. Turns out their CARELESS MECHANICS tore out my coolant reservoir and neglected to find a solution to secure it before giving it back to me. Needless to say this caused the reservoir to rub against the hot belt burning a whole in it so no coolant could stay, Yet another thing I now needed to replace unnecessarily. When I took the car back to speak with a mechanic it was the WORST customer service experience I have EVER had. The guy was rude, unprofessional and unwilling to help or acknowledge that they had done anything wrong. Since then I have avoided this gas station even for gas because I was SO angry. Unfortunately my car broke down again and this was the only station I was able to get to. I was told my car would be looked at this morning and not only had i not heard anything I was told it would maybe be looked at this evening. Although I did not find out that this was the case until I called at 3pm. I am pretty sure the only reason they are in business is because of location because the customer service is TERRIBLE and my faith in their ability to correctly diagnose and fix a vehicle with any sort of competency is non existent. I am just trying to get it working enough to take it to ANY OTHER SHOP. read more
