I brought my car in because of a noise from the wheel after it had been parked for a few weeks. They charged me a hundred bucks just to "diagnose" it, and said I needed a thousand more in repairs. I went to a different shop for a second opinion they told me it was just surface rust on the brake rotor from sitting too long, and the noise went away after driving a bit. They didn't charge me anything. Very disappointed. This place tried to upsell me on an expensive and unnecessary repair. I won't be coming back. read more

My Check Tire Pressure light kept coming on despite refilling my tires, and my tire was getting pretty flat/not driveable. This hadn't happened to me before (first car, 5 years in), so I was stressed about what to do and where to take it. Car delearship service repair shops are the devil, lord i hate them. Anyhow, i had been having issues with my A.C, blows cold air when cool in the mornings, but when extremely hot blows hot air and then kicks in cold at a point. So i knew the compressor was fine, but didnt know why the inconsistency. Enter delearship, i get quoted 2 prices all in the upper $1000's for a coil replacement or complete compressor change and coil, right... Like i have that type of cash laying around when the a.c works 90% of the time. Enter Keswick, so i am driving back and remembered a friend had sang the praises of Keswick so i dropped in. Scott, the repairer just said if its the coil, get it online and they will install it for me. Got the coil online for $140, and though the repair took 2 hrs Scott and the wonderful folks at Keswick charged me an hr and a half, came to about $139. I dont know where you come from but $280 is a hell lot cheaper that the exhorbitant day light robbery charges the delearship tried to pull off. Unreal. Go to Keswick and forget those pricey uppity service delearships. Your pockets will be mightily happy. read more

Yeah, wow, this place is just great. I needed my clucth replaced and told them what the dealership wanted. They scoffed, chuckled, and gave me their price which was 300 bucks lower and then knocked off some of the labor to sweeten the deal. They said two days, it was done in one. And, the cherry on top, they replaced a burnt out tail light for free. All of my mechanic angst is simply gone when I come to this place....in fact, I find myself gushing a little when I'm there for repairs because I'm just so happy they aren't trying to cornhole me. read more

This is a gem of a car shop! My family has a lot of "car guys" so I always run whatever car shops tell me (a woman) by my knowledgeable family members and this place is always 100% honest about what is needed. Once I went to the dealership for some estimates and then brought the same list over to Keswick and after thoroughly looking over the car, told me flat out it didn't really need *anything*, and pointed out what on the dealer's list could be done as reasonable maintenance (not urgent) and what was just totally ridiculous. So my AC just stopped working for no reason. I called Keswick up they answered right away and got me in on the same day. I asked for a round about price the guy was honest on phone said it's hard to say but if it needs Freon etc it will run you about 175 to do it right. I felt they gave a fair price and they got me in on the same day. Dropped the car off and walked home since they are at the top of my street. Called me couple hours later told me car was ready but the AC was fine and didn't need work. They had to replace a controller a small part. Only charged me 115 so I feel they took real good care of me. They were fair and they were honest and didn't charge me an arm and a leg. I already set up an oil change for next week. read more

All I can say is that these men know how to help you out when you're in a not so great spot. I came here without an appt, but they took me in. I came in saying that I was on a budget, and they cut down the prices as much as they possibly could AND donated hours to figure out my car issues. They are amicable, understanding, HONEST, and are truly there to work for YOU and YOUR car, not the money. I don't like most mechanics, and seeing as I'm a woman, it's easy for them to try to fly stuff over my head due to my assumed lack of mechanical knowledge. I'll give them that, but these guys treated me like an equal. If I didn't understand something, they'd politely explain it in the best terms possible. That went a super long way. My boyfriend recently became a Maryland resident, which meant getting his car registered here. However, Maryland requires an ominous "safety inspection"- it's only required once, but we were dreading getting hit with a giant bill. The safety inspection is very thorough and they check about 25 different parts of your car. We made the appointment a few days in advance and showed up on time. The receptionist was very friendly and could see that we were nervous, but she did her best to assure us that the process was fairly painless. The mechanic who does the inspections was also there and he was very friendly. We dropped the car off around 10am and they were finished around 11:15am and called me to let us know. Luckily, the shop is right by the avenue so we did some wandering, grabbed some coffee, and even had lunch. The reason that we were so worried about this inspection is that car repair shops can be notoriously deceptive. However, Keswick Auto Center was VERY HONEST and incredibly efficient. Luckily for us, our vehicle only had a few minor issues and the receptionist explained that it would be much cheaper for us to buy the parts ourselves and install everything rather than have the repairs done at the shop. Also, they weren't able to do the driving test because it was raining, but they assured us that they would do their best to work us in on a sunnier day. Overall, this whole experience could have been a nightmare but Keswick Auto Center really pulled through for us and we greatly appreciate their honesty. We would definitely recommend this shop to anyone who needs to get their car inspected and will be back the next time we need some car repairs. read more

I am new to Baltimore, and have not had a chance to test out all of the Auto centers in the area. I had to trust Yelp! on this one and I'm glad I did. My car broke down and they took me right in, called me a couple hours later with the cost of the repairs without trying to upsale me. Told me it might take some time but ended up being done by mid day. You may not be impressed by the cleanliness of the shop, but honestly, it added a little flair to the experience. I called in the morning to ask if they PATCH tires. They said they could do so if I brought it in that afternoon. After requesting a PATCH again at the front desk again. The mechanic only PLUGGED my tire even after I insisted on a PATCH. On top of that, it costs 20$ for a plug. read more

I took my car here for my state inspection when I first moved to Baltimore. I thought it seemed like the inspection would take a bit too long considering I had an appointment, but the woman at the front recommended I walk up the Avenue and check out some shops/get some food so it was at least fairly easy to kill time. When I got back I was dismayed to find that my car had failed inspection, but all of the repairs seemed reasonable and realistic and it really did seem like they were trying to get the best price taking into consideration how long I planned to have the car yet, etc. Mostly, though I was impressed that when I was upset about getting fit in to do the repairs in time to pass inspection and get my Maryland tags they graciously offered to try to fit me into a busy Saturday repair schedule by coming in a bit early and got the entire thing done quickly and efficiently. I really appreciated them fitting me in like that. Also, the repairs appear to have been done very well. I would definitely recommend them to others. read more

Took my car into this place summer 2016 because the AC compressor clutch in my Honda Civic wasn't engaging. They took a look and told me that the entire compressor needed replaced. $700. AC worked OK after that. Less than 12k miles later (I don't drive much), the AC clutch again did not engage. Unfortunately, they don't offer a warranty past 3k miles (though a new AC compressor should last MUCH longer than that). I took my car to another mechanic of a good reputation. They said the only problem was a $20 relay was bad -- and probably was the problem 2 years ago. So, there's $700 down the drain! Also, they didn't add coolant to the correct specified level despite the system having no leaks. Sloppy work all around. The folks here seem to be hit or miss. My partner used to love taking her car here. Maybe they had a bad day when they worked on my car but now I'm out $700... read more

WARNING! DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO KESWICK AUTO FOR STATE INSPECT! YOU WILL MOST LIKLY FAIL! Went there to get the car its state safety inspection, they told us to replace the motor mounts. We contested it with the state of Maryland, an officer came and inspected it. He told us the mounts where in-between failing and passing and Keswick auto choose to fail us in order to make more money. But since they were in-between he couldn't wave the inspection so we fixed the mounts and passed $400 dollars later. We went back after a month because the engine was rattling and they told us it was the motor mount!! We ended up getting a second opinion, and all we needed to do was replace the air filter! Total dishonesty! Don't trust! read more

I called up there as I saw there was good reviews and it's literally two blocks from me and the lady in the office told me I'd need to bring it in next week (it was Friday). I agreed but then saw they were open Saturday and sat around thinking for a bit how I really needed to figure out a time on the weekend cause I need my car for work on the weekdays. So I called back up there but no answer. I drove the two blocks down and told the lady I was sorry to be pushy but I can only come in on the weekends and if this one is impossible can I set an appointment for next Friday. She was understanding and went out into the garage and asked Scott if he had a second to look. To make a long story short, Scott listened to my issue attentively, drove the car around the block to get a feel and then put it up on the rack. I had a minor quibble about a phantom noise from the front suspension that I have thrown parts at for 3 years (I'm a fairly adequate home mechanic but recently moved to Baltimore and no longer have the space or garage). I stood in the garage with him at the lift and showed him the parts I had replaced and we poked around for anything obvious to diagnose the rattle...neither of us could see anything obvious but before I could even tell Scott that I really only needed the car to truck for another 3 months until I got out of grad school and would be able to afford something else, he remarked "To be honest, the car is gonna be fine, it's not a danger, and it probably wouldn't be worth tearing apart just to fix." He didn't have to say that, he could have just remained quite and seen what type of labor to diagnose the problem he could have drawn out of me. A shady mechanic loves something that isn't obvious cause that means they can not only tell you anything they want...but they can also hit you over the head with ridiculous diagnostic fees. I chose to be honest from the very beginning, but typically telling a mechanic "I've had this problem forever and no one can figure it out" makes their eyes light up with dollar signs. We agreed that I'd keep my ear tuned to hear if it suddenly got worse or changed my cars driving habits and he'd work with me on getting it figured out if I really wanted to. Didn't charge a thing. Asked him his favorite beer (Coors Light) and will be taking him down some liquid payment later today. BTW I also met Ricky down there and he was attentive when I was discussing the issue with him as well. Just good guys down there. read more

"Hello, Keswick Auto." "Hi, I've got an Acura TL, how much for an oil change and tire rotation?" Woman on the other end" How much do you usually pay?" Seriously? It gets worse. Trusting yelp reviews, $600 and 5000 miles after Keswick installed generic brakes that they insisted are better than Honda brakes, the are making an irritating and embarrassing sound every time the car comes to a stop. Taking it back to Keswick for the sound, their verdict was there is nothing wrong with the brakes or the car. Still making the terrible audible when braking, the car goes to another shop where they proclaim, "you know that someone put your directional tires facing the wrong way?" It is a miracle that the car didn't hydroplane. Keswick Auto gets good reviews just because it is the closest auto shop to the Hamden Avenue. Come to Keswick if you want your directional tires installed the wrong way, get cheapo generic brakes that make a noise worse than squealing, and get blatantly fleeced over the phone. read more

I went there for a state safety inspection. They were friendly and prompt. The car was ready 1/2 hour before they promised, and they charged 30% less than the dealer for the same service. I'll go there again so they can earn a fifth star. A tip: the nearby coffee shops, boutiques, and restuarants on 36th street make a good place to hang if you're waiting for work to be done. read more

Good old Ricky. I have taken my car to him for the second and last time. First time took It in to have the brakes looked at and have the front brake pads replaced. How much could brake pads be right? Well good old Ricky tells you when you show up to get your car that he also replaced the rotors, that's why your $100 job is costing you $350. I don't turn rotors Ricky says. You would just need to get new ones some time in the future anyway. The brakes make a crunching sound now and I will have to take it somewhere to have them figure out what the heck is going on with them now. Second visit. Everyone deserves a second chance right? The coolant lines on my Kia Sedona rusted through in several spots. Dealership $895 Firestone $650 Good old Ricky? $523 flat until the work is done and I get a call saying that I now somehow need a new battery. Was there corrosion on the terminals? Absolutely yes. Never ever presented a problem until Ricky decided that its day had come. I explained that it was just fine when it was towed to his shop. Good old Ricky began to shout at me and told me that its not as if the cab light or the running lights had been left on and how dare I accuse him of running the battery dead. I explained that the cost of the new battery was not in my budget and that's why I was frustrated. I believed him when he calmed down and said that it would never work again and it must be replaced. So I take a $20 taxi ride to pick up the car. Get the key and drive to the gas station. When I close the door guess what I discover? The tailgate cab light had been left on and was the cause of the battery running dead. When I called good old Ricky to let him know that this was the reason that the battery was not holding a charge he again began to shout at me (over the phone). I guess you get what you pay for. Problem is I wound up paying for things both times that were not even a problem before I brought my car to his shop. You just can't shout at your customers man. Good old Ricky. Say goodbye to any customer that I may have referred to you. My goal now is to let everyone I can know about your horrible business practices. Never shout at a customer. read more

My car is 2012 Jetta. I changed oil there one year ago, but they lost the retaining spring of the oil filter housing. Of course, they didn't tell me until I change my oil at the dealer again today. I've taken my car here twice, and both times received quality repairs that were done VERY fast and at less cost than other shops I got quotes from. The mechanics here are also HONEST, which I appreciate--I took my car here for a second opinion when another shop had told me I needed to completely replace both sets of brakes. The mechanics at Keswick Auto told me that only the front brakes needed replacing, but that I also had a while before that needed to happen (1,000 miles). They clearly do not take peoples' money for repairs that don't need to happen, unlike a lot of other shops. I ended up getting them replaced here because I appreciated that honesty. I came here for an inspection because my regular mechanic doesn't do inspections, and they were great! Most places I called said I would have to leave my car for the whole day, but I left my car here at 9am and got it back by noon. I also knew that my car was not going to pass inspection but wanted estimates for the fixing it would need, and they gave me a very detailed list and said if I had friends or a mechanic who could fix the car for cheaper than them that I could still bring my car in for the follow up inspection at no extra cost. I also picked them because you can't beat that location--I was able to go do work at a nearby cafe and get my hair cut while they worked on my car. read more

Came to Keswick expecting brake work because I was hearing grindy sounds upon braking. Told them I needed to have the brake pads replaced and maybe the fluid. After they fiddled around it with for a few hours they told me the brake pads were fine (a few thousand miles left on them). It was simply a bit of rust accumulation on the brakes since I don't drive ofter, and it would go away on its own. They didn't charge me a thing for this diagnostic work. They could have charged me for four new brake pads and I wouldn't have batted an eye, and instead just told me there was nothing to worry about right now with no charge. That's classy. read more
