I went here to get my car's air conditioner fixed. The shop fixed the issue, and the price was reasonable. I recommend this shop!

There were all sorts of scams and unnecessary repairs including: 1. Leading Edge replaced the front brakes at 119k miles and then again at 130k miles. Brakes again after 11k!! Front brakes should last at least 40k miles, usually more like 60-70k. 2. Leading Edge replaced the lower control arms at 116k and again at 146k. Control arm bushings last at least 100k miles. If you need control arms again at 30k, either the parts were junk or the alignment wasn't done right. 3. Leading Edge charged labor to replace both the serpentine belt and the alternator. You have to remove the belt to remove the alternator, so an honest shop wouldn't charge for the belt when doing the alternator. To charge full price for both is outrageous. 4. Leading Edge charged $250 to replace the radiator and $174 to replace the radiator hoses. You have to remove the hoses to replace the radiator. Here again, it's a rip off to charge labor for both. 5. Leading Edge charged $475 labor (just labor!!) to install tires, clean the beads, and replace one TPMS. $60-120 is typical at most shops for all this work, especially if you are buying tires from them. $475 for tire installation is probably the most outrageous repair scam I've ever seen.

I ultimately gave this place two stars out of five, and I genuinely debated giving only one. The…read moreonly reason it isn't one star is because the staff are at least very friendly and welcoming. At first, I felt relieved to find a location close to where my elderly mother lives, and I hoped it might be a trustworthy option since other residents in her retirement community go there. I could immediately see why people feel comfortable: the friendliness is noticeable right away. Unfortunately, it didn't take long for me to start feeling uneasy... During routine visits for my mother's car, I noticed significant upselling and costs that seemed far higher than expected. For example, she paid around $120 for a cabin filter replacement that I later learned is often closer to $30 for her type of vehicle. That was the moment I realized I no longer felt comfortable trusting their recommendations, and I decided I would not bring her car back. I briefly considered giving them another chance with my own car, hoping the earlier experience had been a one-off. When I called about a simple headlight replacement (after already researching the exact part and repair) I was told they had to see the vehicle in person and was quoted an extremely wide range of $80 to nearly $500. I chose to go elsewhere and had the same repair completed for $40. I also found the volume of follow-up emails and maintenance reminders excessive and pressure-filled rather than helpful. Trust matters when it comes to car care--especially for older customers. Based on my experiences, I do not recommend this location and would encourage others to proceed with caution.

They are TRUSTWORTHY, kind, wonderful at what they do, and really do care about their customers. They do try to find the best price out there and do the best work. I love my car, and they took great care of it to get it ready to register in Maryland. They made me feel comfortable and heard (which I hate to say is usually hard to find as a woman- especially when dealing with cars). They sent a link with pictures and information about my cars inspection and even called to go over it on top of going over it all in person. If you care about your car, this is the place to go. Sean goes above and beyond and I am so grateful for his work and kindness. Everyone who works there is so kind and knowledgeable. They did great work and even put the car up to show me what they did when I wanted a closer look ( I'm always curious!) Beyond happy. Come here for all your car needs!!!! You won't regret it. The prices are high, but I can't say myself if they are out of line with similarly competent mechanics. They do insist on doing a full diagnostic test any time you come in, and, of course, recommend other maintenance that, not being a mechanic myself, is always incomprehensible to me. I understand the justification for doing that, but I seriously doubt any customer wants to hear you need one thing when you came in for another. You're already sweating out how much this is going to cost you.

Unfortunately, that has been my experience more times than I'd like to admit. The first shop I called gave me a bad feeling right away based on their customer service, but I still made an appointment. Afterward, I checked their Yelp reviews and was shocked by how many negative ones they had. That didn't sit right with me, so I decided to get a second quote. I already had a good idea of what was wrong with my car based on past experience. When I called this shop, the difference was immediate. They were professional, respectful, and didn't argue with me or try to upsell me on unnecessary repairs. I specifically looked for negative reviews--and there were none. I dropped my car off early that morning, and they gave me a clear time estimate for when it would be ready. They even sent photos of the issue. While I didn't fully understand what I was looking at, the fact that they were transparent enough to share images--knowing I could easily research them--told me everything I needed to know about their honesty. I don't remember the technician's name, but they took great care of my foreign car, Lexi, and I'm beyond relieved not to be driving around with grinding rotors anymore. I truly appreciate their professionalism and the way they treated me as a customer. Every single mother needs a mechanic she can feel safe with--and I'm so grateful I found one. Thank you all for your help.

Like everybody, I waited patiently in your thimble-sized office, navigated your comically undersized lot, and quietly appreciated the humor of your staff through the years. Thank you for that. So why today was I met by two new faces at the service desk with such a strikingly different attitude? I was surprised to hear oil changes require advance appointments, and you now prefer online. I mean, sure, I can do that. But when did that change? And why was a technician I've never seen before so condescending about it? He was downright hostile. Then the other guy chimed in and accused me of interrupting him. Honestly, gentlemen, I asked myself, "Is it worth it to schedule an appointment with you, if I know it's going to be you calling me to tell me any additional work that may need to be done? Do I trust the two of you?" The answer in that split-second moment was no. The arrogance, sarcasm, and belittling behavior by this pair made me realize I wouldn't trust these two to be the communicators of my mechanic shop. When I asked where the two old guys went, Kyle said with a smirk, "They went where all old guys go." Um, did they die? No, they retired, thankfully. Old guys from the desk, you are missed by your customers! Maybe it's the same great mechanics working behind closed bay doors at Hollenshade's, I don't know. Two guys I've never seen before told me things about how the business works that I've never heard before and treated me in a way no one at Hollenshades ever treated me before. Which leads me to the conclusion that this is not the same Hollenshade's I've trusted for over 20 years. I'm genuinely disappointed that I need to find a new mechanic. I honestly don't know what's happening at Hollenshade's anymore.

Then a couple weeks later the new brakes started making noise so I went back to them. They refused to fix the problem. They told me some brake squealing was to be expected. No more noise. So yeah, if you want to pay higher than dealer prices for cheap parts and terrible customer service, you found the right place. Having no time to fly out, check out the car, and drive it home to California, and having no contacts or friends in Baltimore, I searched for the highest rated local Lexus mechanic for a prepurchase inspection and Sisson Street appeared. So many stories in the reviews of Jeff's expertise, friendliness, and integrity. So Jeff did the inspection, informed me that the car was in spectacular shape, and offered to help me and the seller by allowing the transport truck to pick it up at the shop. He also advised me on how to best ship the car. His care, attitude of service, and overall good vibes have made this potentially scary process much easier. Great shop, great person. Jeff is…read morehands down the best mechanic I've ever been to, and it's not even close (other mechanics I've been to haven't even been bad, Jeff is just THAT good). The quality of his work is fantastic and his pricing is very fair. He goes out of his way to work within your budget, letting you know what work is critical (if any) and should be addressed asap vs. what he's noticed could use fixing at some point in the future. But what really sets Jeff apart is his dedication to helping his customers. You can't put a price on the peace of mind I get after I take my 16 year old car to Jeff. Not only am I confident that I'm getting a good price; I also know that my car won't then break down immediately afterwards due to shoddy work or from some other issue that I didn't think to ask about (if I asked Jeff to get my car roadtrip ready, it will BE roadtrip ready). And I know I never have to be worried about being judged for asking questions or for the state of my car (yes, there's gorilla tape on parts of my car and no, Jeff has never mentioned it -- in fact, he always talks about how great my car is and how much he enjoys working on it). As a woman with super limited car knowledge who's always a little worried that I'm getting fleeced at auto shops, the trust I have in Jeff is priceless. I also know that Jeff will let me know when it's time to think about retiring my car. Every few years, I'll check in to see if he thinks it's worth me continuing to fix my car up or if I should start thinking about getting a new one. I probably would have thrown in the towel years ago and just gotten a replacement car (even though I love my current one). But thanks to Jeff, my first and only car is still trucking! But Jeff doesn't only make sure he's giving YOU the best possible value; he's also more than happy to help you ensure you're getting the best possible value from other mechanics. He's had to refer me to some other shops for work he couldn't do (or that would be much more expensive for me to have him do vs. other shops -- again, what integrity) in the past. And whenever I expressed any nervousness about them trying to upsell me, he's always told me to just give him a call if anything sounds off, and he'll advise me on what to do. Recently, I even had a situation where I texted Jeff about a light coming on in my car during a roadtrip. I wasn't sure if it was safe to keep going (the manual was extremely unhelpful, saying both that it could be a situation where I needed to stop and take my car in immediately or to just have it looked at sometime soon), so I texted Jeff a photo and asked what he thought. Jeff got back to me right away, and -- with the caveat that he couldn't be certain what was going on, since he wasn't there looking at my car -- he gave me information that made me confident that I could safely keep driving (spoiler: he was right). He then looked at my car the following morning and got the issue fixed (the problem had been a loose gas cap, as he suspected, and the system just needed to be reset for the alert light to turn off) in under 5 minutes, free of charge. And he even told me he was so glad I felt comfortable texting him about this! I've been taking my car to Jeff for over 8 years, and I can't recommend him highly enough. If you're looking for an auto shop, congrats! You've found the best one out there. At Sisson Street Automotive, you'll get great prices, exceptional work, and outstanding customer service. And you'll even get a thank you postcard with a drawing of Winnie, the world's best shop dog, for your trouble. 11/10, would recommend!
