I have been coming here for 10 years. The food is so good! I always get the combination platter with lentil soup. This is one of the few restaurants I know where soup and salad are included with the price of the entree. The restaurant also has the most delicious homemade sauces. I don't often give 5 stars but I really couldn't find a reason to do 4.5. I live nearby here and I rarely go probably because I'm lazy and cheap (frugal). I often get the combination plate when I go to Mediterranean restaurants. Why? Because I get the best of all worlds and should like one protein than the other than I'll get exclusively that. Now if you're complain about the price, take it from a guy who's been real frugal lately. For about 20$ you get a lottt of food but remember you're paying for the excellent recipe as well, thus 20$ for all the food probably for 2 or 3 people is well worth it. I mean this restaurant has been here for awhileeee, that says a lot because I'm sure leasing the place isn't cheap. That tells me they're doing something right! I LOVE Shawarma Inn. This was my first experience with Mediterranean food and it may be my last. It's definitely up to par and up there on the top 5 list, if not close to #1. Everything is FRESH. Not only quality but decent prices for all the food that you get. They charge you 2.00 extra for all the sauces and they give you only one of each sauce. Open 24 hours, I think I may have found my new late night grub spot. So the fiance and I have had the toughest time finding a good late night food in the North shore/North side of Chicago. We usually end up at fast food where the dining room closes early, or at Steak n Shake which tends to be slow the later it gets. Enter ~Shawarma Inn~. We were already very familiar with their location in Park Ridge as we regularly go there and finally decided to stop here after driving around trying to find some place in the neighborhood for food past midnight. They serve up the same food as the Park Ridge location but in a much more casual setting. Food was the same high quality, we split the combo platter which includes chicken and beef shawarma, rice, soup, and salad. They bring out 3 sauces including a creamy green one, tahini, and spicy. The sauces are a MUST. Food came out ridiculously quickly, I went to the bathroom after ordering and it was at the table before I got back. There's a tiny parking lot out front that I imagine fills quickly during peak hours. We were the only ones there on a weekend late night. Don't come here for the decor, and the place could probably use a deep clean and had a sort of funky smell that the other restaurant does not have. But food is definitely good and they get all the stars for being one of the few ethnic spots open 24 hours! read more

For quite awhile I kept hearing good things. But the location and look of the place never sat well with me. The lot was always busied with cars but I also heard anyone could park there, so can't use that as an analytic for success. For whatever reasons I couldn't believe it was good. A place open 24 hours is yum? Which is funny, mainly because one of my favorite burrito joints is also a 24 hour spot. So almost a month back I finally gave in and did so at a bewitching hour. 4 am. The early morning after recent Cinco de Mayo craziness. There were a couple cabbies noshing on their meals and the kitchen was slow. We ordered a couple chicken shawarma sandwiches ($6.50 ea +tax) and I requested hummus to be added inside. We were out of there in minutes. Of my recent trips back, this first visit was the fastest turnaround time. I know 4 am... fueled on booze and anything could be tasty right? However with me and late night eating, I seem to always have my sense of taste in the right place. That was the best chicken shawarma sandwich. Thin flat bread, juicy chicken pieces and a good mix of the insides. Watched a bit of True Blood and was in bed sometime later. In the many days after I'd gone back a few more times to relive the experience except during normal daylight hours. Service and quality was never as good as the first time. Weird right.. 4 am versus daytime hours. In weeks past I've encountered bad service, poor quality and obscene wait times for one shawarma sandwich which has pushed me to a point of removing them from my roll of reliable go-to's. Sometimes it's been the inadequacy of the counter-person to keep up with dining demands and putting out food in a timely manner. The longest I was made to wait for one sandwich was 40 minutes. Others that had ordered after me were served before me. And during that same visit a couple that ordered far before me had had to send their food back because it was was no longer warm! As it turned out my food was also cold when I received it. I would say the overall rating was 3.5 stars. Since I'm a kind-hearted math junkie, I rounded up to four (4) stars. Coming to Shawarma Inn was a Plan B, since the "An*ry C*rab" restaurant wasn't going to work out this evening. I bookmarked several places nearby because I had a premonition that Plan A would fall through. When you see a restaurant that doesn't "close" whatsoever, you may want to pay attention and pinpoint that place on the map. Rosa J. hasn't been a night owl since she graduated from college. If she ever has to stay up, she will stick to her promise of patronizing local businesses. Don't you worry, "Denny boy." I will NEVER let you get close to my wallet! With that being said, Shawarma Inn opens 24 hours every day. I believe they deliver in the neighborhood with a minimum fifteen (15)-dollar purchase. They also welcome take-out orders since the dining room has about ten (10) tables. Hubby and I's love for seafood definitely reflected on what we ordered; we had the salmon and shrimp entrees. Most entrees included salad, lentil soup or stew of the day, and a plenty of pita bread. I liked the lentil soup, but it was a bit "grainy." I've had lentil soup from various Middle Eastern restaurants, so I came to the conclusion that I preferred the "purée" version. My favorite part of the meal was the lemon garlic butter sauce on the salmon fillets and shrimps. That sauce was perfect for most seafood, and especially salmon. Lemon eliminated the "fishy" smell, while garlic and butter infused the fish with an appetizing aroma. On the other hands, hubby's shrimps were drizzled the lemon garlic butter sauce as well. He was pleased with those shrimps and thought everything we had was on point and solid. The service was speedy and friendly, but I could tell that they were busy with on-site and off-site orders, so the two (2) young-lady front runners were literally scurrying the entire restaurant trying to take care all customers. They certainly had the entire house under control, yet they had to hustle in order to juggle between tasks. Although what I had at Shawarma Inn wasn't the best, I couldn't overlook the fact that a restaurant would be open 24/7, even on Sundays when I often had a difficult time on finding a joint that would still be open after getting off work and coming back to the city at 2030 hour. Their parking lot would be another perk; there is no need to search for street-parking. Shawarma Inn is located in between two (2) neighborhood, Lincoln Square and West Rogers Park, on the north end of Lincoln Ave. I've recently discovered some cool places that I would like to check out on Lincoln Ave., extending beyond the Lincoln Square commercial strip. This place has forever ruined Pita Inn for me... and all the rest of the Middle Eastern food that I've ever had. Be careful before you come here because it will change your world. It might not look like much on the outside, but usually hole-in-the-wall places with the best food barely even have a sign on the door. We came here on a recommendation from a family friend who lives nearby- and were instructed specificaly to order the Lamb Kalaia. Our party of 3 was seated at a table with the most hospitable server, who zipped around the entire restaurant taking orders, cleaning plates and not missing a beat. We ordered: A large hummus, Lamb Kalaia, Lamb Shank and a Kabob Entree. The entrees all came with salad and a bowl of soup. We ordered two lentil soups and a white bean soup. Salad comes without dressing, but with bottles of oil and vinegar on the table. When our hummus came (drizzled with olive oil and diced tomatoes, I needed to pace myself to save room for the entree. You know when you feel like you can live off pita and hummus for life? That's me thinking exactly that for the first 1/3 of this meal. Their portions are big, their pita paper thin, fresh and warm. The food also comes out on these heavy, white cermaic pIates and bowls - it's so simple and no-nonsense that you know their food is comfort - that it is cooked well, with love and perhaps with a longing and memory of a distant land. The owners are maybe Assyrian or Armenian (?) please don't quote me - but the men in the kitchen, shaving the meat etc definitely know what they're doing. I also ordered a cup of steaming black tea and there will be a big tub of sugar to sweeten it on your table. Each entree was about $15.00 but the portions are very large and you will have enough to take home for leftovers. You must order the Lamb Kalaia. The lamb cubes were so tender and the sauce, with a mix of onions, peppers and mostly tomatoes were spiced and stewed to perfection. You will get enough rice to put you in a food coma - and your dollar will go a long way. I love the bustle here too: dine-in and pick-up patrons provided a steady flow of business. During the hour or so I was here, people were always calling in and lining up to pick up their orders. There was wait no wait time to be seated to dine-in. When I've driven by this place (dozens of times before eating here) I was always curious as to why their tiny little parking lot in the front was always seemed full. (Now I know and the secret is out - their food is amazing.) Looking around our table at the other patrons, there was a diverse crowd. To begin, there was a Chinese family (mine) but also a Middle Eastern father with her daughter, a group of Ethiopian middle-aged friends, a couple of young Hispanic guys, a solitary silver-haired man who looked like he might be a professor and perhaps a family who looked like they lived in Ravenswood. Shawarma Inn draws in the local community from all walks of life. I don't mean to put labels on people but the observation was more of a reflection as to why I love Chicago. The diversity of culture and food, all at your fingertips to experience. If you want Indian food you go to Devon. If you want Vietnamese you go to Argyle. If you want to fried chicken you head to JJ's on the south side, and if you want Chinese you go to Chinatown and so on... So if you want really good Middle Eastern food, you go to the source, to a hole-in-the-wall tucked in between the neighborhoods of North Park, Edgewater, Albany Park and Lincoln Square. The authenticity of Shawarma Inn will bring in a diversity of crowds. They're open 24 hours, you can order online, they also serve breakfast and delivery is available. This review is for their food only as I've actually never been to their restaurant. We always just order from them through Uber Eats. Our favorite is their Combination Entree. It comes with Beef Kafta, Beef Shawarma, and Chicken Kabob as well as rice and pita. The serving is great -- 1 order can actually be shared by 2 people. But because it's so good, my husband and I always order 1 each. Today, they gave us free soup and they're both yummy too. I wish I know what they are though so I can order them the next time we eat from Shawarma Inn. I definitely recommend this place! read more

First time trying Shawarma Inn. Decided to order take out over the phone. The lady who took my order was polite and answered my questions regarding my order. Upon arriving, tye restaurant itself doesn't look much from the outside and the interior is quite simple. It does have ample seating. It wasn't busy around 830pm when I came in to pick up my order. My order was wrapped up for me when I got there. I ordered the Kefta Kebab platter/meal. It came with 2 large kefta kebabs, alot of yellow Mediterranean rice, a small salad/veggies, and squash. Also, it came with an order of pita bread and choice of soup, picked Lentil soup. Kefta Kebab was good, but it wasn't amazing. Rice tasted fresh. Soup was warm and tasty. Didn't like the squash. The meal was filling, and definitely good for 2 meals. For the price, it is alot of food and tastes good. You get your money worth for the quantity. Not sure if I would want to order the platter again. Definitely will try their wraps next time. read more

I went their twice. I wasn't impressed the first time but I really wanted this to work. I had both the chicken and beef shawarma but I couldn't fall in love with either. I am a shawarma enthusiast but I can't see myself having it again. The beaf was somewhat dry and didn't exactly have the shawarma traditional tastes. The chicken tasted strange to me... May be there was skin or it was cooked with something new to me....I just didn't like it. After I walked out I realized they didn't give me any sauce (I guess you have to ask for it)... I was far gone by the time I realized that. They where fast and friendly but I was there strictly for the food.. so I can't give them more than two stars for now. I might go back there one day to try the falafel... but never the meat. read more

What this place lacks in ambiance and roadside appeal, it certainly makes up for with some tasty and well priced food. I stopped in here on a recent Saturday for some lunch (they are open for breakfast lunch and dinner). I was with a larger sized group so it was nice to see that there was table service, even though most of the business was going out the door through pick up. The hummus and pita bread was amazing to start with as was the lentil soup that I had. I also split some falafel with a friend that was tasty. The people who ordered the shawarma at our table raved about it. There is chicken and beef or a combo and they are willing to serve it on a platter or in a pita, your call. The veggie platter was a sampler of many things and probably would be my choice on my next visit as it looked so appealing. Service can be a little spotty as this place runs with one cook and one counter person so you may have to wait. The portion sizes are large so you will probably end up with at least another meal from your leftovers. And I love that they have a little parking lot out front so parking is never a problem! Shawarma Inn was one of the best Middle Eastern places for years. I live pretty close by and this was my go to place. The wraps, plates and especially the falafel were amazing. I really don't know what happened but since the Covid 19 pandemic, each time I order from here the food is not a good as it used to be. Specifically, I always get the beef Shawarma wrap. The last 5-6 times I had it, the meat was of a very poor quality. This last time, I had to spit out at least 5 bites that I took because I bit into fatty pieces of meat/gristle. You expect to find that once in a while but five times within the same wrap is really gross. This has happened to me every single time the past several time....multiple times within the same sandwich. I guess I am so used to ordering from here that I seem to forget that this keeps happening. I know since the pandemic, the quality of beef is not that great at many restaurants, but this is pretty bad. Sorry, but I used to really love this place. The falafel is still good but the last thing I want to do when I am eating my wrap is to wonder if my next bite will contain a gross piece of meat. read more
