Shawarma Inn was one of the best Middle Eastern places for years. I live pretty close by and this was my go to place. The wraps, plates and especially the falafel were amazing. I really don't know what happened but since the Covid 19 pandemic, each time I order from here the food is not a good as it used to be. Specifically, I always get the beef Shawarma wrap. The last 5-6 times I had it, the meat was of a very poor quality. This last time, I had to spit out at least 5 bites that I took because I bit into fatty pieces of meat/gristle. You expect to find that once in a while but five times within the same wrap is really gross. This has happened to me every single time the past several time....multiple times within the same sandwich. I guess I am so used to ordering from here that I seem to forget that this keeps happening. I know since the pandemic, the quality of beef is not that great at many restaurants, but this is pretty bad. Sorry, but I used to really love this place. The falafel is still good but the last thing I want to do when I am eating my wrap is to wonder if my next bite will contain a gross piece of meat. read more

Witnessed the most horrific thing on my last order. My best guess is that one of the owners was preparing my combination plate. The t-shirt he was wearing looked as if it hadn't been washed in weeks. There was no basic cleanliness being practiced, no gloves, hair net, apron, etc. He was just wearing his dirty street clothes. I was letting that all slide until he began preparing my takeout container. With one continuous motion he reached into and under the arm of his t-shirt to scratch at his sweaty armpit and then proceeded to touch and form the tinfoil in the styroform container with those same filthy, wet fingers. Standing there in shock I didn't know what to say as I was outnumbered 8 to 1 by his staff and friends. About the best Middle Eastern cuisine in the Chicago area. The kefka kabob, rice + salad are amazing. The price is reasonable.

The shawarma plate comes with your choice of meat over a bed of rice, a side of salad and a side of pickled ingredients. I had a chicken and beef shawarma combo. The beef shawarma meat itself, 4 stars. Well-seasoned, doesn't fall too much onto the dry side. As for the dish in its entirety, I give it a 3 and here's why: Despite a very hearty portion of rice and meat, the amount of fat in every bite of chicken makes it difficult to enjoy. It's good when eating it with the rice alone, but I didn't bother putting it into my pita to avoid from picking out the fat out of each bite. The rice could be seasoned a bit more, and the way that the chicken is prepared seems like chicken teriyaki from the Chinese food at a mall. The pickled side dish, which includes pickled banana peppers, pickles, and jalapeño, is interesting but a weird choice when it comes to throwing it all together in a shawarma pita sandwich. The sourness of these ingredients are good alone or saved for the very end, but not an ideal topping for a pita sandwich. Probably good hangover food or last resort Mediterranean food if nothing's open. read more

One of my favorite places to eat. No frills. Just good hot food. Friendly service. Super nice waitress, food is always good, hot and fresh. I keep this place on rotation. Service is quick and efficient not that I am looking for that when I come here But I have never had bad service here or bad food. One of my go places. Try it! Question: how do you know which is the best among the handful of Middle Eastern restaurants curiously clustered along this stretch of Lincoln? Answer: it's the 24-hour one with the cabs regularly parked in front of it. Or, you could take my word for it. I've tried them all, and Shawarma Inn is the one which I will make a regular dinner stop on my way home along Lincoln. The people are warm and the food is very solid. Of course I tried the chicken shawarma, a go-to selection for me, and theirs is great. The tomatoes and cucumbers make the sandwich a little watery, but the meat is delicious. The hummus is silky smooth and just right. Even the plain ol' chicken kebab tastes great. The falafel is lively with some kind of spice that I can't quite place but reminds me of cumin or curry. And although I've had better, I do like the chunky baba ghanoush. The lentil and white bean soups are a little bland, which is the only complaint that I have against the food. You get free soup with an entree, by the way. This place gets almost everything right. read more

The building that houses the Shawarma Inn used to be a dry cleaners, but now lies the best damn shawarma restaurant in it's place. The food here is great folks and it is open 24 hours a day! You are not going to find any old dress shirts or duvet covers on the menu here, but what you will find is great shawarma, lentil soup, catfish and Torshi. Yes, Torshi! Torshi is a pickled cabbage, cauliflower, garlic and carrot salad and it delicious and spicy and it's a great accompaniment to any meal. The shawarma is always flavorful, juicy and grilled up perfectly and the Masgouf catfish is grilled and topped with a tomato curry sauce. The lentil soup is a red lentil soup and makes a great start to your meal. All the options here are delicious, but they items I mentioned are the best. If you are hungry and you want a quality and fast option to eat, regardless what time it is, Shawarma Inn is your restaurant. It was once a dry cleaners, but now great north side shawarma restaurant. Came here last night at around 2:30am desperately searching for food to eat that isn't McD's. I even almost settled for Subway but they didn't have parking. Luckily, this was a spontaneous plan B (more like plan Z at that point) did, and it worked out perfectly! I am pretty sold on Shawarma Inn. My friend and I joked about how they must've gotten a lot more business after the Avengers movie came out, but it's been like 3 years and I'm sure business is just steady even in the morning because they have actually good 24/7 food. Weird it's a sit down place since it felt so casual to me, but the service was so friendly and not grumpy graveyard shift people like I'd feared. We ordered baba ganoush and combination plate to share. The salad, soup, pita, and baba ganoush came in like 2 minutes, which was perfect for how hungry I was. And the curried lentil soup... so yum. Baba... deliciously smokey, and a standard salad. I really wish the meat and rice didn't take so long to come, because I was so stuffed on pita and sides by the time in did. They gave us a huge stack of pita and we pretty much used it as a vessel on all our appetizers. Spoons and forks? Pffft. The waitress was so nice and let us sub the kefta kabob for beef kabob, it was all yummy. Rice was seasoned, meats were flavorful and tender. The beef shawarma especially. Every other place in Chicago I've been to in recent memory has really thinly sliced meat that ends up being kind of dry, but theirs wasn't like that. The atmosphere is very late-night for me, so I would probably not come here during the day (though it's really not because of the food). But definitely on one of those nights. I ate there late night to get something other than Popeye's, burgers or whatever so I finally stopped by this place after driving by it for so long. Shawarma inn so why not get their Shawarma sandwich, right? I ordered it to go and after a short wait I got a dense, compact sandwich. The benefit of a sandwich is that you can enjoy while driving with one hand and not having to worry too much about utensils. My sandwich, while tasty was super messy with their tahini sauce being splattered everywhere like it was a scene in Dexter, but with tahini. This tiny gem is a must-try! Big portions, reasonable price, and great food! I loved the shish kabob plate and hot tea (sorry, I meant chai. I was jokingly told to call it by its proper name). The generous shish kabob plate came with rice, a choice of soup, and salad. The meat was tender and seasoned well. Be sure to ask for all three sauces if they didn't already bring them out. I love mixing them all and dipping the kabob into it. SPACE. It's a small place and it gets really packed during the weekends. A lot of large families and other groups seem to make reservations here. I wouldn't come here without making a reservation if you're in a hurry on the weekends. They do have small private lot and I've never had a problem finding parking. FOOD. Like I said the food here is delicious and very reasonably priced. It's my favorite Middle Eastern food that is located pretty close to home. read more

I drive this place all the time on my way to acupuncture and last week a had a craving for some shish kabob. Ordered two sandwiches from here and was incredibly disappointed. While the price is right and sandwiched are big, they are flavorless. We had a falafel sandwich and shish kabob sandwich. Both plain and flavorless with chewy, dense pita around it.
